[Q] do custom roms have better sound drivers? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am wondering is any custom roms have better sound drivers.
Take for instance, running FPSE and FF7, on my stock Play with 2.3.4, the sound plays, but the sound just isn't quite right on some things, like sirens, or certain music.
I've seen videos of other people playing it, and the sound is PERFECT. Like they were on a PC.
I read somewhere it had to do with how Android plays Midi files or something.
Just wondering, do custom roms have better sound quality and such?

not really, no

[Q] Music player with 5.1 ch sound?

I love the stock music player that came with my galaxy s because of it's ability to play music in 5.1 ch.
However, I have now flashed the latest MIUI to my sgs but the music player is not able to play music in 5.1 ch, so I was wondering if anyone of you guys know an app that can do this?
Thanks
5.1ch is just a sound effect. You can get it on any player app with basic tweaks to the equalizer settings.

Ah, I see. Does anyone have any tips on how to achieve this with an eq?

With 5.1ch people usually mean that instead of stereo (which is 2 channels, left + right) you have 4 additional channels (Center + Back left + Back Right + LFE or Bass (.1))
Your phone only has one speaker so I'm not sure how you want to achieve this.
The audio output is only capable of sending out stereo as well.
A source file with multi-channel audio is usually in *.vob format (DVD video format) but I know of no player that will show this on Android (except for the Archos Gen8 stock video player).
Audio only files would typically be in *.wav or *.ac3 format but same here, I know of no player that will play these multi-channel streams.
Perhaps I misunderstood your question?

The stock galaxy s music player was able to simulate 5.1 ch (when headphones were plugged in) which provided a very nice boost in sound quality. What I'm looking for is either a port of that music player to MIUI or another music player that is able to do the same thing (or some eq settings that does it would also be fine).

I have yet to find one that actually installs on my phone
That option is a load of bull XD.When you listen you only have 2 speakers assuming you are using earplugs which makes 2.0 the highest you can achieve. You shouldn't bother about it... just a stupid tweak that imho makes the sound sound worse...
your comment is a load of bull.. no offence here. But the guy is asking for something dont tell him if its bad or not. He likes it other people like it some dont like it you find it bull. But he doesnt comment you on that does he?
----
And yes i find the sound nice to. And like other people said there are ways to get this trough EQ settings but so far i havnt got it the same as the stock player one

All I was saying that the option is stupid and it's fake it doesnt provide 5.1ch surround sound and I thought he was thinking that and I was helping his out of his dream (read his 3rd post... this is the case here..). If this is the case my comment is valuable if this isn't well.. he'll just do nothing with the information... It's a win anyway, he has nothing to lose, playing around with a EQ is way better ;/. Install voodoo sound tbh if you want a good musical experience...

The 5.1ch option was not stupid, even though it was fake. It made the sound much clearer and better on all headphones I used.
Will look into voodoo sound, thanks for the tip.
I had 5.1 available when I was using a gingerbread version I got from here. Now I can't seem to find one Pretty sure it was Calkulon or something along those lines. It was way better sound (with headphones) in my opinion, so I'm trying to find a current version that will deliver that "fake" surround
Epic touch 4g sprint running 4.1.2
On a side note, I got Jellybean using a vid a watched from QBking77 on youtube, and he references you guys alot.
There are some bugs with Jelly Bean... For instance my mic cuts out when I hold the phone to my face and the screen goes off. Bluetooth headset... NOT A CHANCE lol. On speakerphone i can talk just fine. Headset, works great too. Sometimes I have to pull the battery because the screen dims. But for the most part, it works great.

Xperia Port?

Title says it all, is it even possible to port over a Xperia Rom to our phone, or any phone for that matter?
I've recently came across numerous Xperia mods for ICS - Music, Gallery etc. Even a sweet audio mod, by far the best one I've used. Yeah, I'm an audiophile freak I love music.
So when I found out about these mods, I had to test them all! To say the least they work, unfortunately I get stuck with an equalizer that doesn't work properly but enables full access to the audio mod. I've heard it, its amazing.
So what I'm asking, because I believe it would be easier for me an audio freak to use these. Is it possible to even have a port to our phone?

[Q] Something is seriously wrong with my audio quality...

I don't know. It sounds distorted, it cracks, it can't handle bass, nothing. My EQ settings aren't crazy either, and this happens in every media player I use.
Right now, I'm running Jedi 3.3, along with these mods:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873121
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931970 (mid volume)
It sucked in PowerAmp, sucked in Walkman, Sucks in Google Music. Did I do something wrong here? Oh, it even sucks in Neutron, which was the best audio quality I've ever heard coming from a media player.
Without EQ settings, it's "tinny" and flat, there's almost no presence, just so boring.
I just want to get this working. I know we have an awesome Wolfson DAC, I want to push it to it's potential.
I'm using Audio Technica ATH-M50's. I've heard the potential these headphones have with my HTC One XL, for some reason, something is preventing the GN2 from catching up...
Probably a little too late in responding, but have you used a volume mod?
I fixed it, re flashed the rom, then flashed ac!d and the volume mod on top. Sounds like voodoo now haha.

[Q] Further increasing the GN2's Audio Quality?

Hey guys,
I'm running Skynote 8.3 at the moment with the Perseus Kernel.
I primarily use Poweramp as my audio player of choice. On top of that, I use 320kbps MP3's and FLACs.
I've tweaked the DAC through STweaks to the best my ears can appreciate. The same goes for Poweramp.
Now, is there any other method of further increasing audio quality with these two running simultaneously? I'm looking to increase the dynamic range of my music a bit. I primarily use ATH-M50's or Super.Fi 5EB's.
I'm not quite looking for things like Ac!d audio, Beats, etc. I'd rather not have 50,000 audio processors running simultaneously either. Ac!d always messed up for me anyway..lol.
Any ideas? I'd like to install things that are easily removable rather than a slew of software included in a single package.
Thanks!
Install Sony's xload and clear sound audio enhancements
You can get the zip from pimp my ROM in the play store

XLoud I tried once, it was too loud lol.
I think I'll give the other enhancements a try though, thanks!

[Q for jellybean users] What rom will be best for me?

Hey guys!
I am looking for a rom based on 4.1.2 .
Important thing what rom must have :
- the best able quality for xperia play - i am someone like audiophile
I do not demand high performance (because its jellybean) but will be good when i can play games like deathworm, guerillabob, minecraft and pokemon's at MyBoy emulator without lags.
Also rom shouldn't have too many bugs for normal phone using.
For now i have tryed Play Zcm 4.1.2 but this rom lagging for no reason. I mean the UI sometimes lagging and shortcut sometimes dont works.
What rom should i try for now? Also is there any "audiophile" here? If yes, what music player are you using?
I don't think I am an audiophile, but I like listening to music and my favorite player is Poweramp. It really has tons of options... check it out

did you try cm10?
but why JB? any feature or software that requires it?
btw: using apollo
the hardware restricts the quality here. if the file is not lossless, the headphones can't handle every tone and the phone itself is badly shielded you can't do anything about it. equalizer and software enhancements are not a true enhancement in terms of quality.
I liked Pac man Rom I'm on slim bean now

Well i think from JB we can do better audio quality like from others version (or im wrong?)
I am using only flac's (losless) audio files and superlux HD668B headphones -- not the best, but sound quality is really cool.
For now i am trying Xperia play Ultimate HD 1.0 and sound quality is just, ahh. AMAZING! Like a the best i had hear! I think for now i will stay at this rom.
Also i tryed the apollo player but sound quality was normal. Not very good, not bad. Just good.
