Something in my phone just generated an email for me?! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was messing with something in Chrome when I heard my nexus buzz and unlocked it to find that my phone had composed an email with attachments and a log of my phone it seems.... the thing is the sender and recipient were both to me.
I'm trying to figure out what generated this email.. It seems something on my phone generated this report as I sometimes agree to "help make this thing better by allowing the dev to collect stats"
However the log file and screenshot show no indication of what exactly made this whole thing
How do I identify what caused/created this on my phone? Its kind of weird as it automatically made a screenshot of my homescreen and attatched it to the email and put an address in the "send to" field. I'm worried about what else could screenshot something and fully send an email to malicious users.

go to /system/bin and rename bugmailer.sh (preferably bugmailer.sh.bak)

That will cause bugmailer service loading to fail (hopefully, in a silent way, and not breaking anything else), but init will still try to start it.
Remove it from init.tuna.rc, from source before compile, or from init.rc on a installed rom.

Thanks guys!

You could just ignore it. Bugmailer isn't malicious (and as you saw, it fills in your gmail address as the recipient of the logs it generates). AOKP has an easy toggle to disable that; I'm not sure it's worth the effort to manually disable it.

AOKP is a really solid ROM built on the Android Open Source Project. It is quite stable, does a great job of retaining much of the appearance of stock Android 4.0.3, and has a nice batch of customizations and tweaks to change how your phone behaves a bit.

Contacts of Same Name Merging

This isn't really a Desire specific annoyance, I think it's since Android 2.1
All contacts with the same name would automatically merge on the phone, although they are different people (with the same name)
Does anyone know how to stop the contacts merging ?
You mean, they have same name and surname?
In that case, you can use their miidle name or nickname.

But the database is used for business so they don't have nicknames and a lot of them don't have middle names, so the only way is if there's a way to turn it off or remove the code to do it
let me try to sum what you are trying to say
1. Xavier Spencer 12321456
2. Xavier Spencer 13546798
i dont really think this is a problem "frankly". just my opinion ....

I'm not being funny...but exactly how many people with the same first AND last name do you have on your phone?
Seems like a pretty rare problem. I've seen people with the same name on the Exchange server at work and they all then have to provide a middle initial. Failing that we all have our departments abbreviation at the end of our name.

I got contact pictures for every person, so yes I do know the difference between them, but when they merge I can no longer recognise each person
And you all have your opinion whether you think this is an issue or not, but I'm just simply asking does any of you know how to stop it, I don't care whether you think there's a need to stop it
Just put the company name as Lastname.
So Mr Joe Another from Contoso Corp would be
First Name: Joe
Last Name: Another Contoso
Whilst Joe Another from Kebabs Limited would be
Joe
Another Kebabs
?
I wish I could do that with them all, I'd be happy with that, but my dad has the same annoyance and he has a bit of OCD so it's all got to be perfect
If no one knows, I'll try opening up the APK later and try stopping it myself

Once again you appear to have missed the question...
Anyway I think the point is that most non-android handsets would ask if you wanted to merge the contacts or create them separately instead of assuming they should automatically be merged. This isn't specific to just business contacts, my father and I have the same name (which by no means is an uncommon occurrence) so anyone with an Android handset would have both our numbers in the one contact. This is far from ideal and although there may be workarounds such as nicknames, there should be a better solution.
Try this:
Create new contact with same name.
Save contact then open it.
You should see link icon in the top right corner.Click on it,then select Clear suggestions.
After that, you will have 2 contacts with same name.
Just tested for myself. It works!

Inbound calls only ring once, dzo's latest froyo

As the title states I'm running dzo's latest with the 9-9-10 kernel. The issue is that when I get a call my phone rings once then just stays at the answer screen as though the phone should be ringing.
So has anyone had this issue with dzo's froyo, and if so what did you find to be the fix if u found one.

I'm unable to help factively, as I'm not running that build, but just to start troubleshooting... which kind of ringtone are you using?
Have you tried to use a different one (i.e: a song)
What's the result?
maybe this can help tracking the issue

It's a clean installation so no installed ring tones, only the once dzo included. I will try with some of the others to see if they all produce the same result.
Far from solving the issue, it may be a patch: having a song (obviously longer than a ringtone jingle) you'd hear it longer
Yes but if the filesize is too big then it will take a while to load the ringtone also which would mean you would miss the first dials and possibly altogether. This may be a dialer issue, I have noticed that android doesn't seems give the dialer a higher priority then the other active tasks for some reason. Does anyone know if we can set priority of activities in Android? If we can make the dialer the highest priority then your phone shouldn't have less issues.

Not only that, but a fix is what I'm after, not a workaround.
I've already posted a fix for this in dzo's original Fresh Froyo thread:

I had this problem as well, thought I'd share my finding and fix:
In OGG files I've found that there's an extra meta tag called ANDROID_LOOP which is set to 'true'. The Digital Phone ringtone doesn't have this tag, while others like the Classic Phone does (hence why the Classic ringtone repeats for incoming calls).
Here's what I did to fix this:
- Download and install Audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net)
- Open the ringtone file in Audacity, note you can use mp3/wav files as well, Audacity can convert them into OGG.
- Select Open Metadata Editor for the File Menu
- Add a new tag called ANDROID_LOOP and set the value to 'true'. (See screenshot here: g-sel.com/meta_editor.jpg (I can't post external links, so if a mod would like to edit this post and make them links, please feel free.))
- Click OK
- Select Export from the File Menu and select the Save As Type format as Ogg Vorbis Files.
- Click OK through File Save and Metadata dialogue window.
- Copy the new ringtone file onto your phone and enjoy
You can also copy the new file over the existing one as well:
- Open a terminal program (eg. Better Terminal from the marketplace) and run the following commands:
$su
#rwsystem
#cd /system/media/audio/ringtones
#cp <location of new ringtone> .
#chmod 644 <new ringtone filename>
#rosystem
#exit
- If you have added a new ringtone, ie. your own one not Android default, you will need to reboot the phone for the new ringtone to appear on the list.
Obviously change <location of new ringtone> and <new ringtone filename> to where you've saved the new file (eg. /sdcard/Ring_Digital_02.ogg and Ring_Digital_02.ogg).
PS. I don't think the CHMOD is really needed, but I like to keep things consistent so I do it anyway.

Indeed thanks to siwahem for a fix. And sorry ppelleg2003 if I came across short, I always appreciate input.
Forgot to mention that if you want to use your own sound for notifications then set the ANDROID_LOOP tag to false, otherwise the sound will keep looping non-stop. Only way to stop it, without killing the sound system, is to set the phone to silent mode, then back to normal profile.
Seems, this tag is ignored for alarm sounds though, non of the default alarm files have the tag, but I haven't tested it.
As for dialer priority issue, android actually uses a different process for phone calls. The dialer is part of the contacts app I believe.
Try Phone Prioritizer (it may be called Scheduled Scripting) app (here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558822). It runs periodically to set the main phone processes and launcher at higher priority. I've been using it and it works a charm, phone reacts, starts ringing and display the incoming call screen within the first ring.

[Q] dial an embedded phone number from an email

If I have an email that has a phone number embedded in it... let's say in a reply from someone that I am cc;d on.. and I want to dial the phone number in the text body or signature block in the embedded email text, how do I do that? I can't click the phone number and have it do anything, and if I select it (get the 2 green pins and expand to the phone number size, then send to clipboard) I cant figure out how to pass it to the dialer....
I'm sure I am doing something wrong on this but I can't figure out what.
I use htc sense rom and the email client that came with it.
I can do this if the number format is standard with parenthesis or dashes.
But if someone uses dots between numbers our some other unconventional format, it will not work.
I can't speak for gmail client, though.
I use exchange but I don't think it should matter which client you use should it? If I have a string of 999-123-4567 in the email text body and want to pass that to the dialer to call it, how do I do that?
[just tested exchange and gmail]
I just tap that phone number.
I use this feature often.
I am using a sense rom. Are you using sense or an aosp rom..
I am using the stock OTA 2.2 rom.
The number i was trying to dial was in the format 999.123.1234 using periods instead of dashes so I think that is why clicking didnt work? Even so, if I copy the number to clipboard as is, then how do I enter the clipboard info into the dialer?

Idk if u can completely disable it but long pressing the contact u can remove em in 1 click i will check if they can be disabled and edit the post
Edit: i dont see any option to disable them entirely but deleteing is easy and it deletes the entire frequent call log for that contact and not just one call at a time so if u have (contact name) 15 calls to that contact it deletes all 15 calls and not just 1 call at a time

If you're going to be a douche and cheat on your woman and not have the balls to, you know - be a man and tell her what's up. Then at least put in some effort to cover your tracks instead of being lazy. Delete the frequently called list yourself, manually.

Do most people not know about the apps on the market that hide info like that? If you want to hide certain numbers when they call/text - get a black list app/privacy app or something like that. I like showing off what my phone can do also so I know what you mean. However, I don't allow complete strangers to handle my phone. I don't mind people seeing the name of someone I call often - I'm more concerned about the pictures they might see.
Guys, I use shady sms. It's got a built in call guard and a hidden contact list. Dev is cool too, he responds with help usually same day.
It blocks calls, sms, and hides them in the app. There's no app icon either. To open it, you go to phone, type your secret code, and hit send.

Damn, I was just joking.. Did I touch a spot, did your significant other cheat on you or etc... WOW!
I just want to app that monitors the Frequently Called list and prevents contacts from ever appearing on it without having to manually clear the list.
I know there other members looking for a similar solution to this problem....
Didn't mean to touch a nerve, hope you get your partner back, root their phone or something nice like that! Good luck!
Maybe edit the phone.apk or dialer.apk to get rid of the frequent list all together.
Or it may just be editing a value check for a call to save to the list. That way its always empty.
If you're going to be a jerk to your wife, then at least just get a separate phone. Or maybe you DO want to get caught. If you really cared you would not cheat, and if she's not what you want any more do the right thing and divorce her so she can do what she wants and maybe find someone who respects her without having to be concerned about someone who seems to not care about her(you).
That being said, I would check out Shady SMS, seems to help some ways. I figure the cost is worth it if you don't want to get caught.

They changed the name to Private SMS & Call but it works wonders and is free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superdroid.spc&hl=en
Alternatively, just use google voice for that purpose. All outgoing calls and text will be hidden within the google voice app.

[APP][Tasker Script]Reject the call and dial back option on the answering screen

The script should show an extra "button" while the phone is ringing. Sliding your finger right over this button will disconnect the call and redial it back right away.
I did this because of the switching to an "unlimited minutes" plan, while some of my friends that call me are on some very expensive ones. This allows calling such a person back in one single swipe.
Attaching the tasker xml as well as an exported "application". Please note, those "applications" are a new tasker feature i am not very familiar with, i have no idea of what are the dependencies of those, why it puts what it puts in the manifest, how the implementation looks etc. If you install that apk, you do it at your own risk. All i did was exporting the same tab into both xml and apk from tasker, i did not code a single line in Eclipse to make it, nor i've signed it myself.
PS: Not sure if this is of any interest to anyone, but i've decided to share anyway.
Thanks for this, It will be very useful for me.

I addedd a button to reject the incoming call and send a courtesy SMS to inform that I'm busy now and I recall as soon I can.
Just a question: I didn't find the association between swipe to right and scene (rectangle or whatelese).
Is it possible to add the association between a swipe to left gesture too?
How can I associate a gesture (not a tap or long tap) to an object?
EDIT:
Found!
Stroke->Direction
I understand that only one gesture can be associated to an object

I was just about to answer, but you've already found it on your own
Sorry for the delay, i've been AFK.
all devs should implement this mod in their rom

This is not even a mod, just a little tasker script. It cannot be "implemented in a ROM"
I suppose I'm fairly stupid since I can't import the file in tasker. Any tips? (the prj.xml file, not the apk obviously)

Quick note,
Your post inspired me. Ever since switching to pay as you go, I never answer the phone. I call back using groove ip.
Did this quick setup in tasker:
When Incoming call:
Copy CNUM (incoming number) to clipboard
If wifi is connected, launch groove ip
Very simple, the second I swipe to deny the call, groove ip is already open, and I'm ready to paste the number! Very sweet!
It would be awesome if there was Reject the call and remind me in 30 mins or 1hour or it creates a reminder in my calender.

Reminding from tasker is definitely possible. Not sure about calendar reminders, though. It is possible to add reminders using the normal (java) app API, though.

Should work, but you will probably need to edit it a bit and move the "reject and call back" button to some better location.
PS: Maybe i should code an actual "real" app with this stuff, "coding" anything but the simplest things in tasker is a pain in the butt, really. The problem is, i don't have any real experience (nothing beyond a simple hello world plus wandering around the activities/services/broadcasts/etc concepts) coding Android apps or even coding in Java, nor i have much time to learn the stuff.

it is a pleasure to see you
Again, it's NOT a mod at all. It's a tasker script/project. The xml is not a modification of a preexisting system file but a project to load into tasker.

Exactly. But, seemingly, tasker allows exporting it's scripts as standalone apps. That's the attached apk. Hence, installing this apk, without tasker, as a normal app, may work as well. Note that i've never tested this, so you will probably be the first

It can't damage anything on the system level, it is not even supposed to ask for root. But, sure, better be safe than sorry
