[Q] Backup Battery/Extra rechargeable Battery? - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I'm going to go with a tentative yes. Since it has a 12v output, however I'd check out this one:
amazon.ca/Energizer-XP8000-Universal-Adapter-External/dp/B0029U2WZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328748112&sr=8-1
People on another forum had a long discussion on the subject and the consensus that was reached was that it was the best off the shelf option.

I don't think you will be able to plug that one into your tablet - the plug for the A100 is a rare one.
Check this discussion for all the gory details:
www.acertabletforum.com/forum/acer-a100-accessories/1404-external-battery-a100-3.html
I finally ordered this one:
http://www.expansys.ca/energizer-xp8000-universal-power-adaptor-221031/
You then have to order the correct adapter (NP12) for free from the manufacturer. It's an excellent product.

excuse my filthy american links, but hopefully you can find something similar up north:

But isnt USB charging all 5 volt, and our device is 12 volt. How can that cable charge an A100???

Yeah, @leftovermagic, that cable won`t help much with the Evo power pack that shotgun4 was asking about.
And American links aren't filthy, they're just not accessible to the rest of the world.

When I was at the local Radio Shack they had "G" type(I think it is) connectors that can go onto the ends of the charge adapters they sell. Fry's has the same stuff. Its just the little connector end you attach it to the wire your self. Im guessing as long as you have 12v supply that will deliver around 1.5A and a pos and neg wire you could just one of those. Its the same end as is on the universal car chargers folks are using from Walmart.
I have been wanting to find a small solar pannel or somthing for camping and such.

Hehe no worries man. I didn't think about that or realize it my self until I went to buy an adapter and looked at the specs on the wall charger. I had guessed it would be 5v like most other small portable devices too.

so overall , do we have an external battery charger we could use with this tablet?

As I said in post #3,

It's pricey, but it works well.

Anker Astro 3 battery backup pack
Bought an Anker Astro 3 (10000 mAh battery pack from Amazon (has 9v/12v option) for $59. Bought a special cable for the Anker to Acer Iconia from Edosupply on Ebay for $8.50.
Charges my A500 from <10% to 100% in ~ 100 mins with the switch set to 12v. Nice
The Ebay description says that the cable can be used "for Anker External Battery fit Acer ICONIA Tab A500 A501 A200 A100". Mine works for my A500 so I suppose it should work for the rest?

Confirmed here as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835878

I wanted to share my experience with an external powerbank for the A100.
My main issue was, I need something like the Ankor, but that product wasn't available for me to buy in Australia. Amazon sellers wouldn't ship the item, nor at a reasonable price.
So instead, I bought something similar, which I bought out of China (Ebay). It works perfectly, and the powerbank can be used on other USB charging items which require 2A 5V power (HP Touchpad, etc). Perfect for when we travel with multiple mobile phones, tablets, etc.
For the Powerbank, I bought this: 10000mah Powerbank
For the cable for the A100, I bought this: 2pcs Short DC 5 5x2 1mm Female TO 3 0x1 1mm Cable | eBay
Again, both work perfectly for the A100, and all my other charging needs.

Car charger
I am looking for a way to use it in the car. I first tought on going with 120v converter and use its usual wall charger but i would prefer something more integrated.
I've looked into this:
http://www.amazon.ca/Psa18r-120p-Ad...1394232288&sr=8-6&keywords=iconia+car+charger
But it seems rock cheap and I expect it to either burn or the cable to break easily (looking at it)
Did anyone had any previous experience with Pwr+ products ?

Portable Rechargeable Charger

I am not a big fan of extra batteries. The idea of doing a battery pull and replace another is not pleasing.
I got a rechargeable charger at Best Buy, an Energizer charger for $19.99. Provides 6 hours of talk time. They also have a $39.99 charger for 12 hours of talk time.
I find this to be a great alternative for extra batteries.

Those are certainly good options which don't require you to reboot or buy a charger to charge your batteries. Luckily the Evo boots much quicker than the Pre.

I picked up a 5,000 mAh dual USB charger at Costco for $15. I don't know why it was so cheap (it will completely charge my phone ~3 times). It was a few months ago so YMMV.
any idea who makes this? I have a 2000 mAh one, but would like a bigger one.

I'm sure you can find one somewhere. Just not the Trent Imax brand most likely. You can get energizer ones at BB.
i know i went to best buy and looked at the energizer 2000 maH one for 39.99 but for anyone that has it how much does it recharge your battery? because when i had my G1 the porrtable charger only filled it up about 30%(im talking about the portable charger sold at t-mobile)
I bought the IMP880 portable charger, 8900 mAh. I like it, although I haven't really used it much yet. But it should in theory be able to charge my phone about 5 times. It's not very big, or to heavy (to me) but it does have some heft. I wear cargo pants, so I just keep it in a pocket with me where ever I go.

It would charge it a little over 1 time. How come you don't buy things online? Generally you pay about 40% extra at stores.

does the IMP880 come with a microUSB adapter as part of the original package or is that something that has to be bought separately off New Trent's website?

Aw crap, I wrote up a reply to this earlier today on my phone, and then before I submitted it I did something, and my internet task got killed forgot about it. Yes it does come with a microUSB adapter (as well as a miniUSB and a USB splitter, and some proprietary thingy). There are 2 outputs (USB and D/C out) and one input (D/C in for charging). There's one hard button, for power or to check the power level (have to hold down on the power buttron for 4 seconds to turn it on/off), and 4 tiered power LEDs for power level.
There's a USB cable that comes with the charger is a special one that the other end is a female plug and the micro, mini, and proprietary adapter things are male, and so are interchangeable with the cord that comes with the charger, although the data cable that comes with the phone will work, and mine is actually longer than the cable that came with the phone (if that matters)

Sadly added this to my Amazon cart last week when it was $33. It went up to $43 in a couple days and I unfortunately pulled the trigger at the higher price. Looking forward to getting this in the mail today. I'll monitor the price over the next couple of weeks so I could hopefully request a credit from Amazon.
This is what i use http://store.goal0.com/index.php?p=product&id=12 , may be a little overkill but it gets the job done, I can charge my phone almost 50 times from empty to full... its also great for laptops, and small microwaves(j/k) kinda pricey but well worth it if you find yourself in the middle at the bottom of the grand canyon a lot, or the middle of the Atlantic ocean....

I have one of the energizer ones, It never does a "Full" charge to the phone, it tops it off to about 60-70% and then when the phone dies some more, it will have a little more juice to give the phone. Not exactly as advertised, but I keep it in the car for an emergency battery so it works great for that, and for note I dont have the 19.99 energizer one I have the bigger more expensive one. Also, they are put together worse then most remotes, I split mine within a week from just dropping it into the door pocket of the car.

Car chargers 1000ma?

I'm currently using a regular usb cable to charge my phone directly from my car stereo while driving. The problem is that it takes close to an hour for the battery charge to increase 10% when I'm streaming pandora through bluetooth and using the phone's GPS. I'm assuming that the usb port in my stereo is only capable of putting out 500ma, if not less. Curious to see if anyone knows whether a DC to micro usb cable would give me a faster charge (1000ma). Thanks in advance.
BEst one ive ever used is the official palm one for the pre or pixi. Completely charges the evo from dead to full in about an hour while on the road on a call via bluetooth. Seriously good, verified a while ago on the precentral.net forums that its 1000 mA. They are only like 15 bucks at best buy, or maybe even less on amazon.
Go to amazon or google and search for 12V 1Amp USB charger and that should give you exactly what you need...I use a 1Amp charger for all my devices and works just fine...1 thing to note, that if you have time to use a 500ma charger, let it do it, a little bit slower charge will extend the life of the battery(not necessarily run time, but the length of time the battery will hold as good of a charge).
I use the one below. Works pretty great..5V/1A, exactly what you'd need. The thing says iPod, but it can be used for any USB charged device. An extra nice feature of this charger is that it sits nearly flush with the dash of your car

Cool, thanks for the responses guys. I ended up going with the palm pre charger from amazon, a little pricey at $20, but that's the best deal I could find for it. I'd rather pay a little more than get one that will crap out on me in a month. And it terms of a slower charge (500ma) being more beneficial for a longer battery lifespan, I'd rather dish out $10-$15 in 6 months or so for a new battery than to have to deal with this ridiculously slow charging time
Another option for 1A (1000mA)...
Not to resurrect a dead thread, but I think this may be useful to know:

I'm not allowed to post links yet, but you can search for Scosche to find their products. They make dual port USB chargers.
Scosche makes a couple different models, one is advertised as having 2 amps over the two ports.
On a side note, I tried buying a blackberry micro usb cable off Amazon, and it starts to charge my phone for a second or two and then stops, it's very strange. I think it might work with the home charger, but I didn't check as I didn't notice till later that the charging stopped so soon.
Doing some cleanup and checking threads I promised to respond to...
The Belkin works great, and my wife has the 2-port Scosche. However, for me, NEITHER of them show "Charging(AC)" on either of our 2 Evo's. I have tried the charger in several cars, and same result. Not sure, but I'm guessing they are putting out incrementally less than 1A.
Not sure if that keeps the phone from triggering "quick charge" mode or not.
I just got 2 HTC car chargers from ebay, sent from Hong Kong. It says o/p:5.0V-2A so im not sure if I should use them.. here is what they look like.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170511321504&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Does anyone have a OEM car charger? I would like to know how many amps it puts out. The wall charger is 1A so will 2A kill it? I sure wouldent use it much only if needed.
I have a charger from iGo, works great and has swappable tips so you can use it with other phones or devices, think it was $15-20 with a free tip.

If you were trying to draw three amps from a 2-amp capacity charger, you could damage the charger. However, a device that draws 1 amp from a 2-amp charger will draw one amp. Chargers don't push more amperage than is demanded: it's up to what the charging device is drawing. You and your device will be fine in having "too much" charger.
Thanks so much for the info. So this charger should work great then when I start using the sprint nav or google maps.

Just received two in the mail.
FAIL
Recognized as USB charging in my car.
plus 1 for resurrecting a dead thread
I bought an off brand one (looks about identical) in a respectable local supermarket. It claimed 1.5A.. so overspecced (and no there's nothing wrong with overspeccing, devices won't draw more power than they can handle so long as the input voltage is correct).
Like the previous poster's belkin experience, my korean SGS (shw-m110s) saw it as a usb, not ac. I took it apart and shorted the data pins together, took about 5 minutes). Then it recognized as AC and charged a little faster I think, but still at empty (the fastest time to charge normally) it charges about 1% (1.5 mAh) in 2 minutes(.033 hours).. which is just under 500mA charge rate (450 but well within the measurement error and 10% loss seems quite reasonable anyway). Anyway, sure as heck isn't able to draw 1A off of it. The wall charger which is supposedly only 700 mA charges several times faster actually! (which is probably quite safe at low charge levels, but sure seems like alot more than 700mA too me, but I didn't measure it as well).
I suspect this gizmo was never actually meant to output 1.5A (as it's not configured as a quick charger) or if it does, it only does it with large losses, and an internal voltage drop that's too excessive for the SGS to still be capable of actually pulling that much current.
Wish I knew what to buy.
I Have been using the official palm charger since June. I picked it up at sprint corporate store or radio shack. It is rated for 1 amp and come with a nice short micro usb.
If I were buying today I would go with one of the Platinum branded items Best Buys sells. I saw them for the first time last night so they must be new. So far I have purchased the Pt branded case for EVO and 2 different mounting kits. All of their stuff seems top quality. The have a 2 amp single usb and a 3 amp dual usb model that I saw.

Charger for the car?

Hey everyone,
I'm planning on buying a car charger for my phone soon as I take a lot of road trips and now that I finally have a phone with navigation I thought this would be really handy to have.
My question is: What is the best cell phone charger? What should I be looking for? I hear that some chargers can burn out the battery if left in for too long.
Also, I'd like a charger that would be able to power my ipod as well.
Thanks!

The answer your question is there regardless.
The answer to your question is a bit more involved than yes or no, and involves USB standards.
Perhaps it should be moved ... not my call to make.

I got mine free from Wal-mart when I bought my captivate and it does a good job of charging it.

Unfortunately in reality the plastic around the male piece blocks it from slotting in fully and I have to fiddle with it to ensure it's in well enough to charge. Moving the phone in the slightest can dislodge it and sever the connection.
I'd like to buy this cable to work with my current home/car USB chargers but wanted to make sure it wouldn't have the same issue.
I can't post a URL yet so replace x's with t's to see my illustration: hxxp://imgur.com/TCi5h.jpg

Yea... I've used them to both sync and charge my phone and they work fine.
Moving the phone around won't cause it to come out.
Thanks, most appreciated!
Got mine from best buy. Might not b the best but u can get the wall charger and a car charger for 30 made by best buy brand rocketfish.

It's not the over charging that's the problem, it's the functioning
AT&T not as good as Samsung
I bought the AT&T branded Captivate car charger at the AT&T store, but I've noticed that it doesn't fit into the phone's slot as smoothly as the wall charger that came with the phone. Because of battery power decrease problems, I've just ordered another wall charger from the Samsung website (for use at work) instead of getting a 'generic' one from AT&T.

I looked at this baby in an AT&T corporate store after popping open the package. There is no indication whatsoever about the mA. Forget asking a store clerk. They look at you like a deer in headlights.
I bought Motorola P513 rapid rate car charger from Amazon and it's perfect fit. Now on sale for $5.85. Btw it's 950mAh.

I just bought a random car lighter plug with a USB slot, and use my cable that came with the phone in the car. Its a little long but its the only one that fits well. I use my cable from an old bb in the house. Cheap iPhone car mount and that charger looks fairly nice

I've got a griffin powerjolt dual ... works like a champ. I do not believe that it is a rapid charger and that it only puts out the USB2 standard 500mA per port. I personally do not like rapid chargers as I've seen problems with them in the past ... but ymmv.

I just got mine as well. Fits right in. The glowing Motorola logo is kind of annoying though.

Car charger?

Picking up my phone on Monday, and was planning on getting the car charger. But before I spent the extra $30 I figured I would ask you guys. Is it just a standard mini USB? (not sure if mini or micro is the right term).
For instance I found one on Amazon (I can't post the link because I've only been a lurker here until this point). It's called "Premium Car Charger For HTC ThunderBolt"
Product Features
Brand New IC Chip Controlled Plug in Car Charger
State of the art Intelligent Chip circuit prevents overcharging
Conveniently charge your HTC ThunderBolt battery while your drive
Non interrupted charging, even while the HTC ThunderBolt is in use
Essential accessory in case of car accident or another emergency
Thanks in advance, I'd just rather not give Verizon any more $$ then I have to
micro usb is what you want (different from mini), and the home charger outputs 5V and 1A (same as
1000 mA) so you want a car charger that will output the same voltage and close to the same amperage. i used a 750mA car charger for my evo and it was a noticeably slower charge.

On Amazon you'll find motorolas rapid charger. It's a very fast charger. I've seen it charging at about 800+ma. They're really cheap and are sold by amazon.

+1 on the Moto rapid charger. Got one for my DINC and now using it for my TBOLT and that thing is amazing. And cheap!
Thanks guys. Just ordered one for myself.
Again, I can't post links, but I believe this is the one you're talking about. It's listed on Amazon as "Motorola Vehicle Power Adapter mini-USB Rapid Rate Charger" for $9.09?

anyone try one of these with the stock cable? Or with a $1-$2 replacement cable. Or this Micro car charger they sell
I know monoprice has great quality on their items and the output says 5v and max 1A
According to this, they work just fine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001962
So the charger + a 6'+ cable will let you go anywhere in your car and more for a little over $3, prolly 5-6 after shipping.
Thanks for the tip on the charger. I had noticed that my current car charger seemed to be pretty slow. Ordering the Motorola charger now...

Another +1 for the Motorola charger. Its high quality. I have noticed the plug gets a little loose after a lot of use and wont provide a good connection. I just squeeze the Jack a little with some pliers and that tightens up the fit again.
I use one brought.from att and.its speed for charging is pretty.good.

Struggling with a car charger

Hey, I am hoping someone can help me find the correct car charger adapter for my Galaxy note. I have tried a few and struggled.
I am looking for an adapter similar to this ... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002C3AFHG
The problem is that it doesnt output correct (5v, 1mAmp ... read comment http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R2LOQFBMC3I746/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R2LOQFBMC3I746) ... as a result, the charge is very slow and not useful for using device as a sat nav.
Is there anyone who has bought such an adapter that charges well?
Thanks.:cyclops:
Yes. The stock SAMSUNG car charger charges at a rate sufficient to increase the charge in the battery while using a nav device.
A search in this forum will find an older thread that discussed this. On member tested many car chargers and discovered that the SAMSUNG was the only one he found that performed properly.
Based on that review, I purchased the SAMSUNG charger on either ebay or amazon (don't remember) for a very good price. I also saved a great deal of money by not purchasing a bunch of cheapies that didn't work! I have been very pleased with my purchase.

any links? Thanks
Car Charger
I have the same problem I have bougth a couple of cheap ones off ebay, but the battery still drains during Sat Nav use.
Looks like I may have to shell out for a more expensive one........
It doesnt seem an uncommon problem, but dame, it so difficult to find help. I have searched high and low for the above links. The problem is a real one, esp as I am looking for an adapter to plug to an exisiting cable...
I got the stock Car Dock and love it. Use it to play music via bluetooth and nav and its charges just fine.

It isn't difficult to find help. It IS difficult to want to help someone too lazy to do a simple search!
Go to amazon and search for "original car charger for Galaxy Note". I bought the one from Frontier Telecom LLC.
You'll have to do the rest yourself. I'm not going to buy it for you.

You can use any standard usb charger and get the correct current with a modified USB cable.
There is a thread in the forum tells you how to modify it. Basically, shorten the pin 3 and 4 (data differential pair) of the USB connector, and you will smile.

I'm using a cheapo 1amp USB car charger and a standard micro usb cable. Works well with my Note.
Currently I'm using a 2100mah output car charger with 2 in 1 (apple + micro usb) charging head to charge my notes. It can charge and ipad with no problem.
Fast charging from the 2.1A output
Difference betweeb 1a and 2
Hi guys,
My cheap car charger I bought from ebay do not charge my note, when I use the navigation.
1) How do I check whether they are 0.5a or 1a. It is not written on the charger and not in the description on ebay. How do I mesure that, with an android software?
2) Is there a difference between using a 1a and 2a car charger or is this limited to 1a anyway?
thanks
I have purchased this very recently and looks like it is doing a good job. My phone gets charged perfectly during my driving
http://www.capdase.com/en/product5.php?cid=9&bid=1&mid=6&pid=6775
I also purchased this to help me hold the Note when i use Navigation
http://www.capdase.com/en/product5.php?cid=1&bid=27&mid=865&pid=11509
Interesting.
This is what I just bought on dealextreme.com:
http://dx.com/p/car-cigarette-power...harger-for-ipad-iphone-white-dc-12-24v-104826
Will see if 2.1A will charge it faster... At least I will have the option between 1A and 2.1A

That's what I posted in the first response to the OP a month ago. I only bought this one car charger for $19 including free overnight shipping.
I am amazed when I read of people buying several of the cheapies that almost never work as well as the OEM charger, because they think $19 is too much to pay for a charger. They spend at least that much on multiple chargers plus MULTIPLE SHIPPING and still don't have a charger that works well!
Just buy the OEM. You'll save money and have a charger that works well when using Sat Nav.

3a charger + charge adapater
If you just want it easy and dont mind the cost, get the sumsang charger - Im just not sure if it shows up as "AC charging" or the slower "USB charging" and if it will actually charge up with full brightness on, GPS, wifi, bluetooth all at once... I do use all those at once.
But if your ok with a bit of fiddling around, get a 12v step down to 5v 3amp power module and use it with a dedicated ic chip charger cable - it will work with all androids and even the misus iphone and will always give fast AC mode charging with more amps than most phones need. or use it to power 2-3 devices.
$5 for the power adatper
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Led-Dis...337?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item256f93f0b1
$2 for the charging cable (example)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-in1-mult...903429?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3cc9932cc5
$1 for a cigarette connector, only to use the cigarette connector body.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-Car-Cig...er_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item2ec08a050d
The important part is getting a charger cable with the inbuilt IC chip to tell the gnote to go into AC charging mode, otherwise this solution has been working great for years.
