Seidio CONVERT case review - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys..so I just did this review on the new convert case
This is very comparable to otterbox, ballistic, etc.. same quality and kinda same thickness
What i liked about it is that when you dont want to use the bulky case..you can just rock the surface case (which comes as part of it) so you get 2 cases in one
Hope it helps you

Thanks for posting! Very good review

Nice review!
Any chance we could get measurements with only the surface case on (H X W X L)? I like it but am curious to see how much thicker it is.

I have the Seiko convert case for my CDMA nexus with the 2100 mah battery. The surface case adds about 1 mm to the thickness all around. Fits very well. I pulled it off after about two weeks to make sure the case wasn't rubbing or causing any damage. All is good.
I like the idea of having the convert case when I need the extra protection for outdoor activities.

^^^^thank you !!!! And yes I def agree of the benefit of having 2 cases in one

Otterbox Defender Review

Finally I got it, I tested it and I reviewed it
A very solid case, I like the feel..there are a little things that I will change tho. Specially with ballistic, beyond cell, etc coming in with new products to compete
Enjoy!

The Commuter case is better IMHO.
WG
I like the commuter case better too. And it fits in to the Siedo surface holster well.
how is the defender thicker than the commuter case?by how many mm? mind telling?
thanks
The defender case is not a good case. At least that has been my experience. Loved it on my Evo 3D as it kept it very safe and secure, on the Galaxy Nexus it has caused damage.

i am too interested in this. i was going to purchase this case as soon as i get my nexus in
Sorry to kind of hijack this thread but after using the defender for over six weeks, this is my conclusion.

I picked up a Defender because I didn't want to leave this phone totally unprotected. The case fits snugly and looks like it will give solid protection..however ( there's always a but I don't care for the screen protector, it makes text a bit blurry, the Defender also makes the phone rather bulky.
I'll use this case during the work week but will be looking for something slimmer & more elegant for weekends & special events.

i totally agree, I ended up removing the built in defender screen protector with goo gone and applied my own screen protector to the surface glass.
Much better now

I am using the otterbox commuter case with the seidio active holster... works great.
I just bought a defender, and am loving it, just a! Question. On the otter box site, some have said it fits with the Samsung extended battery. Can anyone confirm this? It does seem to have a little play with the OEM battery so I'm hoping it will.

It does fit with the extended.

That sucks that the member above had such a bad experience with this case. I have to think that somehow that particular case was defective. My Nexus doesn't move around one bit, even with the standard size battery. No movement at all. I also show no signs of wear whatsoever around the earpiece and ff camera. I've used this case almost exclusively since December 23rd.

I used the Defender series with my Galaxy Nexus with extended battery and it fits. Although, I too thought about removing the screen protector. It seems to take away from the screen vibrancy. I never liked or used screen protectors and dont like it on my case.

I need a better case hybrid only.

I have the incipio case verizon sells which within two weeks discolored and I'd rather not use. I then bought the seidio active which is awesome except dirt and dust sticks to it too much and even sticks inside creating tons of like nicks and mini mini scratches which annoys me. Can anyone help me find another good case? I prefer the black/white together look that both of these have.

Bleh reviews say it doesn't fit the lte version perfectly. That looks like it would be about perfect and at least a lot less dust attraction.

Well I did not buy the BodyGlove with the idea of maximum protection from drops
I think I was drawn into purchasing the BodyGlove case for
Overall finish, materials used to construct the case which provides a one of a kind look and feel with in my situation out weighs overall protection.
I realize if I want to protect my device from random drops I would of purchased an Outterbox Defender or Commuter
Thanks

Otterbox Commuter vs Seidio Active (with metal kickstand)

I've had both (Although I had the Commuter for my old LG Optimus One) and I currently have the Seidio Active (Without the kickstand) and the Seidio Active is much much better. The silicone and plastic is much higher quality and it doesn't lose it's shape like most Otterboxes too. The only upside with buying the Otterbox is that is comes with a screen protector (A pretty crappy one anyway) and that's about it. The Seidio case is much better.

By the way does the case get a lot of lint on it and does it get stuck inside pockets and such that's my main concern lol
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The Seidio case picks up a little bit of lint, a LOT less than the Otterboxes do. Half the time for me it doesn't pick lint up but when it does it's barely noticeable and wipes off really easily. Can't same the same about the Otterbox though, I had a hell of a time with lint problems when I had one for my old phone.

Do yourself a favor and also check out the Trident Kraken(Excellent Video Review Here). It has an awesome kickstand, tons of accessories that can be bought(11 bucks for a windshield mount? DONE!) and you can take it out of the poly-carb box and use just the silicon sleeve when you don't need it. Plus from everything I read online, Trident offers far superior protection than SEIDO or Otterbox. And the rotatable belt clip is way better than a holster, to me anyway. Give it a look, love mine!
Also if you want slightly less protection(and thickness) consider the Trident Aegis.
Quit hatin' on the Commuter!

Of course the Trident Kraken offers superior protection when compared to the Seidio Active and Otterbox Commuter but it also adds a lot more bulk to your phone. (If you're ok with that, then go for the Kraken! It is the most protective case out of the three!).
And I wasn't hating on the Commuter, I was just stating what I had encountered when I had one with my old phone.
I decided to go with the Seidio Active case with the kickstand. It should arrive tomorrow so I'll update you guys on how it is.

Got the Seidio case in the mail today I love it but the only thing is that it doesn't have any opening for the 3 pin thing on the right side of the phone. I don't know if the Otterbox Commuter has an opening for it.

Commuter doesn't have an opening for the pogo pins either. Very few have them open and the only ones I own that have such an opening are some tpu cases I have.

Yeah I don't plan to use them anyways but so far this case is very good but we'll see how it survives a fall which hopefully never happens

Kraken does not have them either, nor does any high-protection case I have seen.
Would have to say the seidio active is my choice. After i tested it the hard way, due to me being sleep deprived. I was working inside my car engine bay and take off the phone due to getting in the way at times. I just so happened to forget it was in their and then started to drive away to get a drink. I finally realized what happen then went searching for it the case was scratch to heck, but the phone was safe
^ Mother of Buddha :-\
I have what I'm told is a Commuter for sale.. $20 shipped 405-259-2797
I like the little groove on my case from where the kickstand is too makes it feel nice when you hold the phone.

[Q] Dust proof/ resistant .

Hi,
I've been searching for a good dust proof case.
I am currently using ballistic SG maxx and it doesn't protect from dust
I am at the army at the desert and I am looking for a good way to protect the mic and speaker grills and the earpiece...
Dust just keep finding way to get there and I am finding my self constantly worrying about it...
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I've looked and from what I've found the SG Maxx is the best option unfortunately. You could throw it in a small pelican case.. But that's about it for now..

I saw a Zerolemon rugged case coming out

Its supposedly IPX4 rated so waterproof and dust proof but not that rugged. It would probably survive dropping but not crushing.

From what I've read from someone who contacted Otterbox, they have no plans to make a case for the N5. I was a bit disappointed when I heard that.

I own both the Trident Aegis case and the Ballistic SG Maxx cases. I prefer the Ballistic SG Maxx! The Trident case is a beauty for sure no doubt there but, I found it too slippery to use. It was slippery in the hand an caused me to almost drop it a few times. Unacceptable! Also the bottom edge (where the speakers are) is slippery so you cant rest the edge on a table and balance it on your hand. Unacceptable too! I've had Trident cases for other phones and they have always been great. The build quality is awesome and it looks very nice. The speakers have dust screens on the Trident case which is a feature I was looking for but, the cutouts are too small and the sound gets muffled. Both the Trident Aegis and the Ballistic SG Maxx cases have port covers/plugs The only thing that the Trident case has that the Ballistic SG Maxx doesn't, is the dust screen filters for the speakers. I haven't had a problem with dust using the Ballistic case because it any dust tends to be more attracted to the rubber than getting in the speaker ports. The Ballistic SG Maxx case is really nice and offers a lot more protection than the Trident Aegis case. I wish Trident would come out with a Cyclops or Kracken case I am sure I'd be happy with either of those (if they were not slippery). For now though I will continue to use the Ballistic SG Maxx case be cause of the unmatched protection it offers from drops (already survived a 5 foot drop) and it's not slippery. I'm quite happy with my Ballistic case and I can not say that about the Trident one. I highly recommend the Ballistic SG Maxx and in my opinion its the best case available for the Nexus 5.

Unfortunately, Otterbox has no interest in making more money or caring about their (ex) customers, so they don't make cases for Nexus devices.
I have the SG Maxx like you, and the only way to solve the dust under screen protector issue that I've found is to install a different screen protector. Just be careful so the sides of the Maxx don't push up off the screen the sides of the screen protector.
What about the Seidio CONVERT Combo?
