Chrome beta and YouTube - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm using Chrome beta and i have noticed a few issues. The one which is driving me crazy is the integration with the native YouTube app, i mean, there's no integration or i can't find how to get it. Videos are not in HD and there is no fullscreen option. Any idea?

Just relax its still in beta. I'm sure Google will fix that issue in on of there updates

WHy are you using the website instead of the app. I am just wondering.

the app is super slow on my device for some reason. The website on Chrome loads almost instantaneously for me.

If you set your youtube account to use HTML5 rather than Flash, the new Chrome Beta plays everything in the Browser if you prefer that.

This can be seen with links to any apps. Clicking on an address in search results also uses browser based Maps instead of Maps app. You can star this bug here:

youtube mobile page

whenever I click a youtube link, whether its from facebook, or twitter, or anywhere else the link opens up the mobile web page instead of the native android app. this is strange to me. on both my two previous phones the mytouch 3g slide and samsung vibrant, a youtube link would immediately open up the app. This is not the case on our droid incredible 2's.
could this be a t-mobile vs Verizon thing? i don't see what benefit verizon could gain from preventing us from launching the app from a link though.
Thanks in advance for your help
Go to settings, applications, internet (if you're on sense Rom, browser if aosp) and clear defaults. Next time you try to open a you tube video it will ask you what you wanna open it with
Edit: it doesn't work. I checked permissions for you tube and they're the same as the browser' s. I re installed the app and still doesn't come up as an option.
"the relentless pursuit of the perfect ROM "
I've seen this behavior even on my CM7 Inc2. I have to scroll down to the bottom of the mobile page and hit "Desktop" which launches the YouTube app. Silly, if you ask me.
?
No matter what my YouTube app opens when I click a link.

I wish i knew what the problem was on my end then.
A little bit of insight....
I clicked a YouTube link from Google, the YouTube app played the video. I shared the link from the app to Facebook. I then clicked my own link in the Facebook app and the YouTube page came up, not the app.
So, Facebook, why aren't you opening YouTube links with our native app?

Maybe Facebook's use of https routing affects the phone's reaction to links and default openings. I doubt YouTube supports secure browsing like that, so the native app won't trigger when redirected out of a secured server.
Just speculation.

YouTube and Chrome

I've noticed that when you click on a you tube video or link in chrome it takes you to the YouTube mobile site instead of the YouTube app like the stock browser. Does anyone know a work around for this?

I think a lot of people have noticed that:
1 - Chrome will always us a mobile site if on is available, and the user agent cannot be changed.
2 - Chrome does not appear to be able to launch apps from links...

That could change with future updates as well. Never know, its just a beta.
I've also noticed chrome doesn't give the option to push to desktop view like the stock does. Overall, I like the speed and features of the chrome.

Other browsers?

Chrome seems very buggy for me. It is very slow on some websites like Google Groups - and also when I try to just search in Google the input always gets screwed up... Was wondering if there are other good browser alternatives. I use ICS Browser+ on my HTC One X and really like it - but it doesn't seem to work in the Nexus 7, immediately crashes every time I open it.
Thanks guys!

I've been using dolphin browser hd and it's been very good.

2nd that. The latest dolphin browser is super smooth and fluid.
Dolphin Browser HD is the best on Android, Opera isn't bad either.
What about Chrome. It Works fine and gast. And maxthon mobile Works also great.

Dolphin Browser HD... best browser for android
Sorry for my bad englisch
Thanks guys, will give Dolphin a try!

I'm liking Firefox Beta. Newest beta added tablet support and does flash.
The aosp browser is by far the best. Google made a mistake by not including it. Chrome is crappy in comparison.

I personally like the AOSP browser and is the only browser I have on my tablet. Quick with some good features.

Boat Browser is better than all. Loads pages fastest....leaves dolphin in the dust.
I switched from Boat to Xscope on my phone and player... hope it works as well on my N7 coming Monday. If Chrome doesn't do it for me (like pinch/zoom Facebook mobile pages), I'll be quickly adding Xscope.
Dolphin HD and Xscope Pro are the 2 best browsers for me. They usually leapfrog each other with features and UI enhancements. Right now, however, the latest update has made Xscope Pro unbeatable IMO. It also supports Flash which Dolphin HD foolishly disabled. This is Android on a Nexus people......we will use Flash till it truly disappears.
Don't like Dolphin. I use Opera on my mobile, but Chrome on my Nexus 7. Loving the magnify function on small objects, sync and the auto fill.
I have the AOSP browser, Chrome browser,Dolphin Browser HD & Xscope browser all on my N7 and use them all for different things because all of them have their strengths & weaknesses. It's not like back in the G1 or Nexus One day's where we were limited with such a small amount of space and it's easy to just make a Browsers folder and use them all for different thing's

Chrome lags like no other. Also freezes a lot causing me to close the tab. Also the constant refreshing when you're multitasking is annoying

Bought Xscope 7.14 today and have a few problems with it. It's GREAT on desktop sites, but not great on mobile sites (not nearly as good as Chrome). It's my favorite browser on my Optimus and my Galaxy Player, not so much on N7.
The other problem I noticed today is it won't let me do anything to imported bookmarks. It has an "edit", but I can't change the name or delete it, or create a home screen shortcut.
If I use the system create shortcut, it only shortcuts to Chrome, and won't open Xscope through it (main purpose is to open an html file on SD card). If anyone knows how create an Xscope shortcut, or edit a bookmark name, or pinch-zoom a mobile page (like Facebook), please let me know. Thanks!
edit: Figured out how to edit/add/rename bookmarks, real pain, but once bookmarks are tweaked, other aspects of Xscope make it worth it.
1. To add a bookmark: Scroll to bottom (which is easy since you just need to double tap near bottom), open history, click star on one(s) you want to add.
2. To delete: scroll to bottom, select edit, click title, if a menu appears, click title again, then you can delete; you can also edit title there, but not URL
3. No way to add a Bookmark to home screen, tried 5 or 6 bookmark apps, no go... Xscope needs to add this feature!
I like the tab swiping, and with text set at 150%, mobile pages are OK, but starting to prefer Desktop pages (where there are no pinch-zoom issues). Flash seems to play smoother than in Boat.
Personally ive found Opera Mobile and Opera Mini to be my main powerhouses.
flash
sync
mini for tethering
mobile for wifi
simple
fast
give it a check, its my driver
the one thing that always takes me back to using chrome is that zoom feature where if the are a lot of links in a small area on the page it auto magnifies the area and let's you choose the right link. I constantly get sent to the wrong pages with any other browser I've tried.
Any other browser do this?

Which browser is king? (Opinions are welcomed)

Which browser is the best out of the big names (Chrome, Firefox, Dolphin, Default etc.) I just don't know because lateley with these new updates they let me down in diff areas. I wanna be a one browser man lol.

I used XScope for the longest of time. I really liked how it functioned. But I currently use Dolphin. I like the reliability and how it handles swipe gestures.
You know what sucks? No third party browser supports links to apps. They don't open party store or Google plus. They open the websites. Except boat browser does play store but no other ones. Only browsers that support those links are stock and chrome. And stock mod browsers obviously
I know, the only gripe I have with dolphin is that when you dont pinch zoom into a page and click a tiny link next to another link example: Xda next page and last page chrome has like a popup that enlarge them for you.. I dunno if dolphin has this and you have to set it up or w/e but its a good app. Lol and everyone flames the default.

[Q] Better YouTube app?

Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of the unofficial YouTube apps on the Play Store. The official YouTube app I use is terrible. Always buffering. Even on a strong wifi connection. YouTube through the browser works alright, but is less convenient. Anybody have any recommendations?

Ima register my interest here - since getting a tablet I've found i cannot watch HD vids due to buffering issues that don't exist in browser or on other devices using the same connection.
I never play strictly audio from YouTube as there are plenty of OTHER audio options I use on the M. When I'm on YouTube it's for videos. Heck the website works from my phone better than the app.

I know it's been a few months from the last response, but I feel like I should still reply in case you/someone else is still interested in a better Youtube app.
Viral HD Youtube Popup Player is the best Youtube app I've found for Android, far better than the official app. You can actually choose what quality video you want instead of HQ/HD and not HQ/HD, which is something about the official app that really annoys me. Also it doesn't shove recommended videos in your face when you start it, it instantly shows your subscriptions. The player interface also has much more usability (eg. changing the brightness/volume and being able to lock it) and it also has a neat feature to play the video in a popup window while you do other stuff (which isn't very useful in most situations really and you can disable it in the settings if you don't use it) or you can just have the video play in the background (which is really useful in case it's a podcast/music video).
It does have some bugs and missing features, which I'm sure will get fixed eventually, but in general the app looks really good and polished unlike most other unofficial Youtube apps.
(I was going to put a link to it in the Play store, but since I can't just search for Viral HD Youtube Popup Player and you'll find it)
PS. I've no idea if it fixes the buffering issue, I just had to share it since it's fairly difficult to stumble upon it in the Play store and it's just so good that it deserves far more than 100k downloads
