English (Canada) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The build of ICS that shipped on my Wind Mobile GN has no "English (Canada)" language setting. Seems sloppy to sell it that way on a Canadian carrier. Is there any stock build I can flash that does have it?

If there any difference between Canadian and US English?

Yes. We are somewhere between what is considered standard USA and UK English. We did not adopt US spelling reforms but only some became standard.
e.g. colour (CDN/UK), not color (US)
jail (CDN/US), not gaol
travelling (CDN/UK), not traveling (US)
dialing (CDN/US), not dialling (UK)
analyze (CDN/US), not analyse (UK)
centre (CDN/UK), not center (US)
cheque (CDN/UK), not check (US)
tire (CDN/US), not tyre (UK)
etc.
And occasional distinctions such as: "There is a parking meter located 1 metre away."
So I set it to UK English but it's still not quite right. When I call someone it says "dialling"
And of course, dollars $ not pounds £, and more often than not, metric units rather than imperial.

Chill out dude - if you don't like it, you know where the door is...

You must not work with professionals. If I write an email to a customer with words from a different language, I'll look like an idiot.
I'm glad some of us wish to remain professional with our written words.

If you want Canadian English then pick the UK version since our English comes from them anyways. Thats what I picked, and if a word comes up that isnt in the dictionary you could always just add it into it so it will be there the next time.

Agreed, this is a huge problem for business writing...
Someone please make sure google is well aware of this. Let me know what I can do to help.

Yes but CDN English is still not the same as UK English. When my locale is set to UK, the dollar signs in Yelp come up as £, the search page goes to google.co.uk, and I get wrong spellings like "dialling".
The Nexus One came with a CDN English setting so I don't know why this one didn't.

English Version of HTC P3000 in the Netherlands?

Anybody know where I can get an English version of the HTC P3300 in the Netherlands?
T-Mobile is going to be offering the phones for free, but they are only in Dutch.
Is there a way to change the operating system on it without messing up the whole phone?
Suggest to have a look at the pdashop.nl or smartphoneshop.nl
They offer the HTC P3300 EN with T-Mobile Contact (which will also give you the benefits of cheap phones..)
Ooops, only the Tytn is one of the recent models in EN. But it is maybe an idea to contact them with the question, their support is quite good.
At expansys.nl they have it (but no contracts as far as I can see)
Thanks for the reply
pdashop.nl wants 198- Euro w/ the Flex 40 2 year contract from T-Mobile.
I would be able to get the phone for free in a couple of weeks with the same contract
I guess the next step is to figure out how to change language on it without making it a paper weight.

US 3G Data?

So I'm looking around for a Rhodium to pick up, and find out that (at least that I've found) don't have the 3G network data for the US... just every other country >_>.
I *really* want this phone. I have a tilt and this is the next logical step. However, the ATT version has a crap keyboard, so I want the original model. So my question is: Is it possible to manually update the 3g network data for US usage? It's kind of pointless to spend over 600 bucks on a phone that I can't use to it's full potential.
Second, anyone know where I can pick one up less than 600 bucks?
usually it has to do more with hardware rather than software, so you're out of luck. Less than 600, more likely it will be a used one off of here or ebay.

No it´s not possible
I understand your concern, on my case is the same or buy the beautyful european version without american 3g or wait till some american carrier bring it and with the diferences like keyboard, color, etc...
I am just about to decide to buy the europe version, just will wait till July 22nd as that date aperently att&t will have it on sale.
As for the price, if you want to buy an european version there are plenty sites with good prices like clove uk
Let´s see what happens?

from what has been posted on this forum, the at&t version does not have a crap keyboard. your probably talking about that picture that shows a red one with a jacked up keyboard. That is NOT the at&t version. Somebody here on this forum saw an at&t version in person and said that it has the same exact keyboard layout as the unlocked version.

I think it's T-Mobile that'll have it on July 22nd, with their T-Mobile weird/specific 3G bands, not AT&T. I'm still anxiously waiting for AT&T to announce the release date...
^yep, the July 22nd date is for Tmob...hopefully it won't be pushed back!

Orly? Yeah, I was talking about the one with the red keyboard (the red was cool, the 10-key was not >_>). If that isn't the ATT model, then what IS it and why is that picture out there?
If the att version is standard keyboard, then I'm all about getting one from att with (hopefully) US 3g.
Thanks for all the replies!
That was a mock-up picture. If you look at the slide it says 5-Row QWERTY but the picture of the phone shows a 4-row QWERTZ. I also doubt they would keep that hideous red color.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus in Latvia, Estonia, Litva

Hi everyone.
There are a lot of threads about appearing GN in UK, US, Australia and so one.
Does anybody know when GN will appear in The Baltics country (Latvia, Litva, Estonia)? Does anybody know whether any terms of his release? In which stores it will be selling in this countries? How much it will be cost there? I'm interested in stores located in these countries. please do not offer Handtec, Clove, ComputerUniverse. If you got some links to the stores in this countries where GN will be selling- post it here please.
I'm from Estonia and as far as I know it is not sold in Estonia. In fact no Google phone has ever been sold here, so there is not much hope.

I'd like to test phone before buying. Don't want to send it back to the store if I find dead pixels or other bugs on it. It takes a lot of time to send it back and wait for new phone.

It is unlikely that Galaxy Nexus will be sold in Estonia, however it might still happen now that Samsung is trying to make a bigger push with it by naming it 'Galaxy'. It's not just a native-Android type of thing anymore. But Samsung will still want to push their own main handsets in these markets and that might get in the way.
The best bet would be to order online. There is a small chance of something being wrong with the device, but looking at the device in store is not really the way to detect them. At best you can only detect dead pixels there and those are rare on Super AMOLED screens.
I guess that if you want to be an early adopter, you have to take some risks. We have and as a result we have this awesome volume bug.
What is the baseband radio version and build version on Estonian Galaxy Nexus phones (stock ROM) ? Anybody can tell me that?
Thanks!

Purchasing Galaxy Nexus GSM in Korea

I have a friend visiting Korea next month, and I was wondering if anyone is from there that have purchased the Galaxy Nexus. I would assume given that it's Samsung, they would sell their flagship Nexus phone there, too, correct?
I know it's a world phone with pentaband, so regardless of where it comes from, it should still run on Tmobile's network and 3G data, even if it's one from Korea, correct?
My other concern is whether the phone will offer an English (USA) option. Does anyone know?
And in general, are there other reasons/concerns I should consider before I have a friend purchase it from Korea to bring back to the US for me? I'm hoping this will be a cheaper method... possibly?
Probably need a connection to get one in korea. No official release in korea that is known. On the other hand, if you have a samsung connection you should go for thenexus gold and try to get a 32gb galaxy nexus gsm version.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 which is in the wrong country.
Its not for sale anywhere but the UK right now.
To answer your other question, yes, it will work on T-mobile US just fine.
Thanks for the replies. Interesting that it's not sold yet even in Samsung's home country...
Well, if my friend misses the release, it's not a biggie.
Would anyone know about the language? The device will have an option to have it all in English, correct? Or any other concerns, like whether I will be use apps from the US, etc?
EDIT: I also found this link: http://www.wirelessgoodness.com/2011/11/22/the-samsung-galaxy-nexus-for-korea-hits-the-fcc/

selling phones has nothing to do with where the manufactures headquarters is located. And to answer your question about English being an option, pretty much all Android ROMS offer English as an option for the main language
The problem might be getting to the english option though.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 which is in the wrong country.
The Galaxy Nexus in Korea actually went on sale 11/28 along with the LTE Galaxy Note. The English option should not be a problem since on stock android you have the option of setting your default language from Korean to English or vice versa. The only problem is that by default it would come with Korean and you need to navigate to the Language/Text Input options. I can help you with that if you'd like.
Thanks for the responses, everyone.

Do you happen to know how much the Galaxy Nexus is going for in Korea? I would only ask my friend to bring me back one if the price was significantly cheaper than say importing it through expansy or handtec.
Also, if and when the time comes, I may take you up on your offer of help for navigating the menus to switch to English. =D

T-mobile US uses 1700/2100 (AWS) for 3G. The Galaxy Nexus is pentaband and works on pretty much any GSM network in the world.
Perfect, thanks. I'll see if i can find them. Hoping for under $700 UDS

Yes, please share the price.
I am living in Seoul and have been using my GSM Galaxy Nexus for a few days (shipped from UK). It works fine.
I wouldn't recommend buying a Korean Galaxy Nexus though because:
a) I am not sure there are GSM models available for sale here
b) A Korean GSM model (if available) may not work outside Korea for things like SMS and MMS
c) Bloody expensive here. It's a captive market so the koreans get screwed.
It is best to buy an unlocked Galaxy Nexus from abroad and bring it here. Even then, it's a right pain to get a simcard. I know, I've been through it.

The SK Telecom WCDMA uses 2100MGHz.
Not to be off topic but has your friend considered a Galaxy S II HD?

I'm curious, too. Except for the vanilla android experience, I would seriously consider the Galaxy S II HD LTE in Korea.

[Q] Sgs2 in Spanish, without root

My grandfather don't know English and needs a better phone, I'm thinking of buying him a galaxy s 2 but I need to put Spanish as the language. Now my mom has the Sgs2 from Bell and I checked the settings and is either English, French or Korean. If I buy him a phone probably from ebay I don't want to root it.
Is there a way to add easily a Spanish package? If not, Is there another gs2 model (maybe att). That will have it already on?
Thank you

My current ROM has spanish language. Im pretty sure other custom ROMs here have them too but ur gonna have to flash. If ur gonna buy a used one why is the reason you wouldn't want to root it? I asure u its pretty safe, easy to do if u own a pc and know how to follow instructions, and u could always go back to stock...just in case u did not know that.
