Q - video output choices - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I am thinking about getting a Verizon gnex. One specific function I am looking for is screen mirroring or navigation only output to my car DVD player. My DVD player only has component inputs. Yellow, red, white. Is there an adapter that would patch into that, and what are the video output possibilities on the device so far?

I as well was looking into the same thing. I couldn't find one one the web anywhere I looked. So if you can't find one there may be an alternative. You could try to cook up your own adapter if you know a little bit about circuitry and have some soldering skills.
Hope this helps

You will need a MHL to HDMI cable as well as an HDMI to composite converter box such as this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0047PDBP0/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1328454437&sr=8-1
Unfortunately that box needs to be powered so you will need to either get a DC to AC inverter to plug in to the cigarette lighter and then plug in the adapter that came with the box or find something that will scale the DC voltage from the car battery to whatever voltage is required by the converter.
It sounds complicated but isn't really. Good luck!

And is screen mirror a choice?

I just bought an HTC box that plugs into the phone's USB, I wonder if it's the same deal...
My old G1 and MyTouch had no headphone jack, instead there was a USB adapter, and the sound is piped through the USB...
I wonder if that's standard, or just something HTC jerry rigged.
I'm hoping it's standard, so that I can hide this box in the dashboard of my car, run a line from the headphone jack on the box to the aux in on my stereo, and just plug the USB cable in to charge and get audio out of my phone.
...from your experience though, sounds like a no go.
Sounds like it could work, let me know!

Power Monkey

Hi all,
Noticed that my power monkey doesn't charge my nexus anymore.
Is this to do with needing more oomph so to speak?
Cheers

Same issue. I've emailed PowerMonkey support - it's a bit puzzling because the USB spec only calls for 5V and 900mA and the powermonkey classic is rated to output up to 5.5V and 1.2A.
Is your powermonkey charger also the classic version?
Yes, it's the classic version.
They've now suggested using the female usb tip and the normal usb cable to see if that works. Will try it later but I know the micro usb tip isn't faulty as it works on other mobiles.

[Q] Is there HDMI?

Probably stupid question but I am still confused. does this phone have HDMI out? I read it does but there is no port.
Yes, Same plug as your power.
Www.monoprice.com has cords for just a few bucks goodluck

[Nice, thanks for the super quick reply. What type of HDMI cord does it need? because I know a regular HDMI cord will not do given the size of the micro USB port.
I guess something like this, id shop around see if you could find a better price from link above otherwise $15 aint that bad of a price

Its called MHL. It is a technology that is phenomenal and is being overlooked for the most part. Even phones that are capable of it don't advertise that they are capable of it. It is a simple adapter that plugs into your USB on your device and gives you a full size HDMI port to connect to your TV.
Does it charge your phone at the same time?

Your phone plugs into mhl, mhl has hdmi to tv. Mhl also needs a power source, so it is plugged into the wall. I think it is able to keep charged.
This creates full mirroring. Meaning you can play angry birds on your phone and have it up on the big screen

a/v to S3 connection???

I have an old TV...its one of those TVs with only the red/yellow/white outlets in the back...I was wondering if there's anyway I can use my phone to mirror the image on my old TV like with the original Galaxy where you use the headphone jack and it splits into the three wires??? thanks in advance...

Not a direct way, no. You would need the MHL Adapter for the HDMi signal and some sort of active "adapter" that can turn the digital HDMi signal into an analog a/v signal for your TV. Cumbersome and probably not much cheaper than a cheap flat TV with build in HDMI.
anyway to do the opposite? video "IN" to the S3 and display the input on its screen? possibly even record it ?

How to play games in TV?

Hi,
I have mhl cable
I have HDMI cable.
I have LG LED HDTV
I connected the mhl cable to my s4 and connected HDMI cable to the mhl port. I switched on TV and selected the HDMI as the input but nothing is coming up on my TV screen.
In my knowledge, using mhl cable or adaptor I should be able to share my screen on my TV.
Any idea why it's not working as intended. Also is there is any way to play games on to my TV from my phone?
Your help is much appreciated.

Try The Samsung Brand
Samsung Makes a MHL to HDMI OTG style converter, I got one from amazon and it works for me, They tend to be a little bit more money compared to other though
Thanks All for your replies. that makes sense.
i will try to buy one, any recommendations apart from the Samsung brand?
