How much do you like your Play?
How much do you like your Play working?
How much is it worth to you not to BRICK YOUR PLAY?
Don't try to install CM7. It will brick your play.

[Q] Rogers Branded Arc - Flashing CM7

Hi,
As it is written in the thread title, I am the proud (and frustrated) owner of a an Xperia Arc on Rogers (Canada). I am frustrated because since the "classic" bootloader unlocking methods do not work with Rogers branded phone, I'm unable to use any flashing method that require fastboot.
Also, I've seen a bootloader unlocking method that involves removing the battery, attaching wires on contacts, ... And I do admit that this kind of stuff scares me a little bit.
I wanted to know if wether or not it was possible to use Clockworkmod recovery (or Rom Manager) with a rooted 2.3.2 version and "just" install CM7 that way ? I know it sounds a little naive, but I'm currently stuck trying to root (after a downgrade to 2.3.2) with Gingerbreak and it stalls and the phone ends up never rebooting.
So if anyone has a solution/idea on how to flash CM7 on my locked bootloader Arc, that would make me (and probably dozens of other Rogers Arc owners) sooooo happy.
Also, I just wanted to know if it was possible to flash CM7 with Flashtool ? Before having my Arc, I had an X10 and used flashtool about 15 times to flash MiUI Roms... If yes, would it be by "converting" the CM7 files into a .ftf file ?
Thank you very much
if i were you i would save the hassle. unlock bootloader, and go. i just did it this past weekend so i can get root without jumping through hoops.. i was extremely anxious about it too..but if you follow the instructions you really cant go wrong. ps. im using rogers arc too! and as to your questions.. i really dont think you can.

Roger's Arc owner here as well.
So the the official method via the sony website dont work for us?
As CM7 is getting stable and since its pretty much release, I was gonna start to work on this ...
I was hoping to unlock bootloader ( through either sony , or one fo the threads and peeps that can do it here ) , root it and enjoy CM7.
Hope the official one works :S

It doesn't, no Operator locked handset can, so you will need to use Alejandrissimo or Jinx13. Worth every penny.
Allright thanks for the heads up , I'll set up an apointment or somethin with Alejandrissimo

Hi,
Thanks for your quick answer gk_terato. So is the 24 USD $ really worth it (e.g. with alejandrissimo) ? I know a fraction of this amount is used to pay the tokens, but I don't know how much this is really worth... I've (sim) unlocked all of my previous phones and it was never over 15 CAD $.
And btw, I was just wondering wether or not unlocking the bootloader would, at the same time, remove the sim restriction ?
Thanks again !

Weird?

Well, ahmm, I'm kinda... wondering, what are the reasons why phones get bricked. Can you tell me tips and tricks on how not to get your play bricked. Thanks.
~noob
Don't unlock the bootloader and do an ota(over the air) update that's a sure fire way to get bricked

Learn a bit about what you're attempting to do and why it works or doesn't work (ie. adb commands, fastboot commands, build.prop settings), that'll greatly help prevent bricking your device. Knowing is the first step to prevention. Oh, and ALWAYS backup your nand before doing anything you're not sure about (ClockworkMod Recovery is your friend here).
Okay, but i'm going to unlock the bootloader, un-root my xperia play... following the tutorials i can find in these forum. Is it okay? By the way... weird question, what does un-rooting, unlocking the boot loader's benefits?

Why would you want to unlock the bootloader and unroot? that makes no sence, most people unlock there bootloader so they can root

If you don't even know why you're rooting and unlocking.... why try to?
Cuz, I can try unavailable features, extra application, in all, i wanted to unlock the phones potential, in addition, custom ROMs can give me the latest version of AndRoiD. that's why.
I think he means he wants to root, and he thinks unroot = root

They're saying, in a slightly sarcastic/joking way, that you should read up on these matters:
What is a bootlader. What is root. What is ADB and Fastboot. Then read up on 'how to' and what to do and not to do on these subjects.
You'll most likely end up with a brick if you don't spend some what time on reading a bit before you get into unlocking/rooting etc and/or posting alot in here about issues you've encountered. Not saying that won't happen even if you read about it, but then you atleast know what you tried to do and how and that'll make it easy to help you.

Yeah I really kinda enjoy flashing roms and testing them out on my phone but i'm also a bit afraid of bricking and warranty ;/
I would tweak everything you can and play around with locked bootloader first. You can always unlock later, but once you do unlock it can never be hidden from Sony service centers. Unlocking does NOT automatically void warranty, but gives more reasons to deny coverage. Playing first will give you an idea about what you would do if you unlock. And as always read, read, read, about what you are going to do first, recovering an unlocked bootloader device can be more difficult that locked

Just do what I do. Sod warranty, get insurance through your bank account. That way if you totally brick it. Throw it on the floor and claim for a new one!

[Q] Current Root Process?

I have an Xperia Play (R800x) laying around that I wanted to play around with. It's got version 2.3.4, so it looks like I can't use the zergrush method to root it, and the bootloader unlock process from Sony won't work with my device.
Is there another current rooting process? I've looked around but I'm not seeing anytihng other than paying someone else to unlock my bootloader.

Deleting preinstalled apk

Dear All,
Please be patient with me.
I live in UAE and cant find professional developers like your here.
I have Xperia play R800i 2.3.4 xxx.62 kernal.
I just want to get rid from pre-installed games and apk.
I tried to root my phone using Sony web site steps with fastboot steps.
the application could not push the superuser to the phone "I got error copying superuser .. r-only file"
After that I found the I can read the root from my phone but I can not control the files.
I just need to root the phone without loosing PSX emulator of flashing new custom roms.:silly:
Is there easiest way?
I found software on net named oneclickroot (30$), is this one real or fake?
Please help me I'm new in rooting phones.
Thanks.

Rooting your phone is free don't by 30 dollar software its probably a trick. Just unlock your boot loader from Sony sight and flash a custom kernel that's rooted

Did you tried to root with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219711
You can always downgrade to .42 firmware and root it with zergrush.
It's easier to root it with custom kernel (unlocked bootloader), but you can do it even without unlocking your bootloader.
