[Q] Downgrade from CM7.2 to CM7.1 - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Has anyone downgraded from CM7.2 to CM7.1? For some reason CM7.1 seems much more stable on my phone. Is downgrading as easy as upgrading?

You need to install a stock rom, flash clockworkmod, then flash cm7.1.
But you can make a backup, wipe data cache and dalvik and flash cm7.1, without stock rom flashed..
But why would you?
I think 7.2 is better..
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium

Well, I tried 7.2 on my phone and it is not as stable as 7.1 for me. I am constantly having problems connecting to my home wifi network (have to enable/disable the wifi adapter a couple of times), phone restarts from time to time for no reason, unlock screen blinks one time before it t actually appears on screen and some other minor issues. Didn't have any of these issues with CM 7.1 so I think of going back to it. I'll probably go go for the wipe cache/dalvik solution in that case. Thanks for your reply.
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk

Did you patch CM 7.2 with patch 4? The patch fixes most of the things and the rom is the most stable for me.

Yes, I did. Did I need to wipe something before or after applying it?
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk

Update: I've just tried to wipe the cache partition plus the dalvik cache and it seems that most of the problems are gone now. I would recommend doing this to anyone with the same issues as mine.
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk

You always have to wipe the cache/factory reset and dalvik cache before installing a new rom otherwise problems will obviously occur.
Glad that you solved the problem. If you still face some problems then wipe the cache/factory reset and the dalvik cache and flash the rom again with patch 4 and gapps.

I use stock rom, better than CM7.2/7.1. No lags in games, no screen flicker, no f****n problems. Same performance and better battery life.

Stock rom with custom kernel??
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium

Nope, just stock rom with root and some stock apps deleted, that's all. Maybe i will flash the kernel for stock roms, maybe.

What benchmark results do you get with the stock ROM (either Quadrant or Antutu)?

Assuming you really want to downgrade to CM7.1 I think you can format /system, /data and such from CWM, then apply CM7.1 zip file. No need to install stock ROM first.
BTW I saw in CM-related instructions that when you have some problem with CM that you don't know how to fix try first doing wipe, usually that helps. It seems it helps in your case as well

Yeah, that's right

Dude, leave the f***in benchmarks, my phone is faster in games. With CM 7.2 last time my result in quadrant was 2600, but it was bulls**t cause i had lag in games.

Yup, I also find benchmarks are useful for bragging only. They almost never tell anything real about phone performance in a real application.
So you have to try different ROMs to find the one that would suit you.

Well, I guess it depends on what one uses his phone for I don't play any games and my phone is definitely faster with CM7.2. But as JustVass said everyone has to find the one that best suits him

[Q] Problems flashing Sense ROMs

Hello all,
So I am an avid ROM flasher (I try at least 2 a week), and recently when I try to install Sense 3.0 or 3.5 ROMs I have an issue; The ROM flashes and boots up all nice and good, but the startup application that runs by default on a fresh install doesn't show up. All I get is the wallpaper and the notification bar w/ clock, battery etc. but thats it, I can't get passed this to any other screen . After all that the only way I can get back to recovery to flash a working ROM is through a battery pull.
Like I always do with new ROMs, I
nandroid
factory wipe/reset
wipe cache a few times
wipe dalvik cache a couple times
flash GruesomesWipeAll.zip
then flash ROM
The wierd part is that I can flash Stock Barebones just fine along with any other ICS ROM with no issues.
So I guess what im getting at is, is there im doing something wrong i.e. flashing or wiping?
PS. my SD is partitioned
PSS. the ROMs that arent working for me are
The Express
EnergyROM
And one other that I forgot
What recovery are you using?

Try a reflash of recovery see if that helps. Also wipe everything except sdcard and battery stats 2 times then flash the rom to see if its still happening

[Q] Is it ok to reinstall a rom without clearing anything?

I flashed Sandvold's ICS 0.8.1 yesterday, but after reading a few threads today I saw that it's better to do the custom install instead of the typical one. I did a nandroid and decided to simply flash the rom again without clearing anything.
It seems fine so far, but I'm wondering if this can lead to any problems?
Also, do I need to reinstall a2sd after re-flashing?
I think that if you downgrade from ics to gb than you need to make a full wipe but if you upgrade than I think it's ok

If you are with the exact same rom then a wipe shouldn't be needed and a2sd should stay if you don't wipe.
Try it and if it doesn't work do a full wipe I've never seen anyone say you'll break your phone if you don't wipe. Someone on Sandvold's thread recommended app extractor from play store as an easy way to restore after a full wipe. Didn't work for me but I only tried it once so you could check that out. It just restores everything from your nandroid

If u are flashing the same rom (newer version) u still have to wipe dalvik. Its better anyway just to do a backup then full wipe and flash the rom then restore

Always wipe Dalvik, sometimes, the rom setup menu does it automaticly.

[Q] Need help flashing a new rom

I've got my evo rooted, or at least I'm pretty sure I do.
It's currently on 2.3.3, with an H-boot version of 6.16.1002, the software version is 4.24.651.1, and CWM revolutionary 4.0.1.4.
I'm looking to flash a new rom that is very well functioning. I'm just wondering if I've got everything done right so far, and if there is an official version of Cyanogen out (I'm leery about nightlies), and how well it works. The only other rom I've seen that I'm really interested in is this
So have I got everything rooted properly, before I flash are there any thing I need to avoid, and precautions I need to take?

Cyanogenmod has stable releases at http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=supersonic&type=RC
I would always do a backup in recovery just in case...other than that you should be good to go.
Thanks, I found the latest stable release.
I've done my fair share of flashing on my Droid X, but just to make sure I don't wake up to bootloops for breakfast, what are the recommended install instructions for CM?
Also, does CM include a custom kernel, and do you recommend the latest stable, or the latest RC?
Wipe data 3x
Wipe cache 3x
Wipe dalvik 3x
Flash CM
Flash gapps?
(I don't remember if you need to flash gapps with CM)
Not sure if doing each 3x is really needed but that is how I was taught and have never had issues thus far, unless it was a specific rom related issue.
As for kernel since CM is AOSP, I would say it is custom since you can not use a sense kernel on an AOSP rom.
Hope this helps!

I've run into a very odd roadblock...
TiBu keeps freezing before i can even do anything. I've tried reinstalling, using an older version, and fixing permissions, and its still happening the moment I touch the screen.
This isn't too big of a problem as long as I can restore all my apps (including the numerous ones on the sd card) through my CWR backup... is this possible?
I think a lot of my issues I've been having are because I took an OTA update after rooting...
Ummm, yea. The 2 do not mix. Either keep it rooted and no OTAs, or keep it stock with OTA updates (if you choose them).

[Q] Custom ROM's to laggy.(solved)

Hi all. I tried to search but didnt found any solutions.
So. I tried to install custom rom's on my one v(gsm). And i noticed that phone became really unusable. For example: sometimes i cant answer the call because of lag, or cant shut down alarm. It can stuck for several minutes. I noticed that behavior in CM10 and MIUI jb. Now im using myONEv RC7.0 rom. It lag less, but it have already stuck twice per 36 hours of using it.
Using RIGHT kernels for EACH rom. For CM and MIUI Hellboy's kernels for CM10. Flushing whith full wipe. Using min cpu freq. at 368Mhz and interactive governor. Tried to overclock to 1.5GHz no result.
So do you have any ideas to fix it?
Having the same problem I've tried every ROM I could find. They all look better and can be customized more that stock but lag is a problem... I'm thinking stock is better. Camera is also a problem the stock camera is amazing compared to the rest imo. Hopefully there's one ROM out there.

Backup ur data n format memory card then flash a custom rom... Then it ll be bit faster(sense roms r bit laggy try jb)
Hit thanks if I helped u!!!
Backup ur sdcard then go into recovery and format everything except sdcard.
format/emmc
format/devlog
format/cache
format/system
format/data(include anything that's been left)
sd-ext format will give error.don't worry.nothing's wrong.
And also do a full factory reset. also wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Now,flash ROM again and use correct kernel.
Try using ondemand instead of interactive. first try ondemand at 1ghz-1ghz then if no difference try at higher values.
Also try wiping sdcard if still no difference.or try a different SD and see what happens.

Why is this happening to my Gnexus?

Hey fellow gnex community! I recently left stock rom due to freezes and random reboots. I've tried out various rom and kernel combinations this week such as xylon/AK, Purity/AK, AOKP/franco/lean, CM10.1/trinity/franco, Rasbean/trinity, PA/lean/franco/trinity/AK and Xenon.
The problem is they all freeze and reboot constantly after 2 minutes of use. I never changed the kernel settings and this is only happening on 4.2.1 roms. My favorite rom/kernel combo would be purity/AK, Xylon/AK but they freeze, wifi disconnects and never connects back and reboots constantly.
So the question is why is this happening to my phone recently and are there specific kernel settings that will stabilize the roms or is it just my phone?
Any help would be great,
thanks.
I haven't had that problem before, and I have flashed several roms (though not a custom kernel in a while)
Faulty hardware perhaps?

I've done that twice already and usually wipe after it freezes but then still happens
Are you sure you know how to flash? Not trying to offend but it saves a lot of time if your a noob.
I currently wipe dalvik cache 3x, cache 3x, and factory reset 3x in twrp. I read somewhere its safer to wipe like this or use super wipe scripts or w.e
I am running the latest rasbeanjelly with latest rasbean gapps and latest lean kernel. I haven't had any resets and haven't tweak anything. May I also add that when I do get errors with roms normally when I flash extra mods I always go back to recovery and hit fix permissions. Idk why but it does solve some issues.
Good luck

lol. Ya I've been flashing roms for like a year and it's only recently these issues are popping up. I do pretty much what everyone does - wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flash rom, flash gapps and flash kernel. I never use mods so nothing to worry about there.
Try flashing rom and gapps only without a custom kernel.
If you've fully formatted your drive, have updated recovery, and are positive you have good downloads then your problem is most likely hardware related
Try the kernel cleaner script before flashing/changing between kernels.
It's a cwm flashable .zip.
Alright will do as suggested
How about fastboot flashing the stock rom's .img-es? (Galaxy Nexus ToolKit is the easiest way to do it)

Alright so it seems like the rom HumberOS with built in kernel did the job. Been using the phone for about 4 hours non stop and no freezes or reboots so far. Finally something stable for my phone! Thanks for the help everyone!
update: After a day without any hiccups on the humber os rom, my phone finally froze and rebooted. Since I was using cwm, I decided to see if twrp would solve the problem. I restored my phone to stock and started from scratch by installing twrp. Then I decided to give PA a try and to my surprise no reboots or freezes at all but will have to wait a day to confirm.

You did restore the factory images by running the update script included in the package right? This will make sure all data is up to date.. Fastboot erase all partitions first as well..

yup did all that and everything seems to be going fine so far
So... what would be causing the problem you think?
You installed TWRP and PA both at the same as I can read in the previous posts?
So that way we will never know if it's a recovery problem, or ROM problem...
Well, as long as your device doesn't freeze and/or reboot we should be happy I guess.
