How to remove an app (Google Maps) and downgrade? (rooted) - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

It seems that on Calkulin's ROM, the new version of Google Maps has a serious wakelock issue. I googled the offending wakelock ("networklocationpassivecollector") and the only solution is to go back to a pre 6.0 version. Thing is that I can't uninstall Google Maps, it'll let me uninstall updates, but it'll still be version 6.0 that's causing the problem.

Have you tried using root explorer and going into /system/apps click the mount RW button on top and delete the google maps? Then install the older version that you want.
You could also remove it with Abd. Google that process.

ended up using Titanium Backup. works perfectly!

[Q] Detach apps from market

Is it possible to detach apps from market?
I have Brut Maps installed but the market says there is an update - i dont want this update as it will overwrite my brut maps.
So is there a way to remove maps from the market?
Cheers guys
Just 'untick' the auto update option on the Market for Google Maps
It is already unticked mate but still shows as update
And if there is more than one app to update and i click update all it will start to update maps aswell.
What about if i use root explorer and move the .apk from /data/app to /system/app?
Would that work?
It'll still show as an update, you can't turn it off...just have to be careful
Ok thanks mate. Was hoping there would be a way to remove the market association.
i think you can use titanium backup to detach the app from market.. the free version may work. and you may need root too. can't verify as i use the donate version and already rooted.
once installed, long press the app and click detach from market. let me know if it works for you.

[Q] Updating built in apps (unrooted)

Hey,
I'm running the HTC sense UI, that came with my phone, which I haven't rooted.. And I would like to know if anyone could tell me how can I update programs that came preinstalled..? Because they don't show up in the market, and I would like the new updated google maps, that just came out.. in settings->about->system software update I've tried checking for updates, but still nothing..
Thanks for any help you can provide me
Yeah sometimes the market doesn't detect the apps that are already installed on my phone. I usually just click install even if it doesn't say update. Have you tried just installing the Google Maps application from the market? I believe the updated version came out yesterday.

Sometimes the market doesn't detect all of my apps as well... The fix is to clear the market cache!
clearing market cache didn't do it.. and oh well.. now i can't even find the maps on the market anymore.. so who knows what's going on ..
This happens to me too on every single ROM I've tried (stock, Cyanogen, Virtuous). There's always several apps that the market doesn't detect me as having, but the one that always seems consistent is Maps. I generally just install Maps from the market manually. This puts an extra Maps applicaton in the /data folder even though Maps already exists in the /system folder. Since I have a rooted device, I then manually delete the maps apk from the system folder.
Super simply fix. Just download aTrackdog by a0soft. It will detect every app you have installed and check to see if there are any updates. If there are you can download them either from the market or the developers website (if one exists). It will even track apps that aren't on the market, like Wireless Tether. And you don't need root for it. Should do the trick, hope it helps.

[Q] Google Mail not available in CM7

Hey,
I've switched recently from Oxygen 2.01 to CM7 RC2. I did a full wipe (factory reset/cache). Then I installed the Google Apps and had the problem that I couldn't download from the Google Market. I reflashed the Google Apps (gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip) and now I could download from market and had apps like Google Maps.
My problem now is: I can't use Google Mail. The Market says that it is already installed on my device but it's not displayed anywhere on the phone. Neither can I choose it with the ADW launcher nor can I see the app in the settings menu of Android. I already cleared my cache again and reflashed a third time the Google Apps.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Or does someone know how I get to the screen where I can choose which Apps from the Google Apps packet I'd like to install ?
reflash is your best bet
If the market is saying its installed, can you uninstall via the market. Then install it again.

Can't uninstall via Market. I will try to reflash CM7.
Ok! For installation of the CM7, I normally do is wipe, install CM7, boot for the first time, don't install gapps just yet. Enter settings and enable your wifi connection. Now boot to recovery then flash the lastest gapps zip, reboot the phone and should have the apps and screen to choose which apps to install from the market. Well! It happens for the first time you use the market app of course.
That how I do things, hope it will help your situation somehow.
Now I've got Gmail installed. But I had to download the .apk file. Couldn't install it through the market.
Thread can be closed. Thanks to everyone.
Just to let you know, the gapps zip file doesn't include any market apps. It only includes the Market (vending.apk) and the Google Account Sync setup. Everything that is Google you need to get from the market.
You could of tried to have used the web market as well to install it. But seems like you didn't fully wipe it or something messed up.
I fully wiped my device twice. Market said that it was already installed but it wasn't.
Hi ekwinoks
I had promblems with the google mail installation. I found out that the Google-Mail app is not available on the german market. So i used the Market unlocker app to download the mail app.

[Q] Revert to Maps 6.9.0 on Jelly Bean? (To fix Latitude)

So Maps 6.9.1 appears to have broken Latitude. Does anyone know a way to go back to 6.9.0 on Jelly Bean? I don't have any option to uninstall updates or anything.
downgraded maps

I had same issue with latitude, after installing jellybean. I downgraded to 6.9 and this did in fact fix the issue.
Yeah, I ended up using Root Explorer to delete the file in /system/apps/Maps.apk then just reinstalling from the Play store. Fixes everything!

Thanks! That did it for me. It was weird because the only thing that seemed broke was my Latitude "friends" did not appear to be friends anymore. They would not show up even when showing stale friends.

Google app crash

Hi, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I decided to update Google Play Services on my G4 (android 6, stock rom) and since then, all Google apps (gmail, google keep, google play store,...) keep crashing.
I downloaded Google Play Services 8.7.03 on apkmirror and I chose the variant 440 (arm64 + arm, android 6.0+ and nodpi)
I can't deactivate or uninstall Google Play Services and I wish there is another option than restoring the entire phone...
Try a few different versions of Play Services?
Hi, thanks for your answer.
I've called a friend who also has a G4 (android 6) and asked him what is his version of Google Play Services. He has the 8.7.03 (variant: 440), the exact version I manually installed.
I saw on forums that I could try to delete my google accounts (which I did, but Google apps are still crashing and now I have a notification telling me I have to link the phone to a gmail account, but I can because Google Play Services crashes all the time).
I also tried to reboot, clear the app's data, uninstall all updates and reinstall the right version,... but still crashing.
I'll try one last time everything I've already tried and if it doesn't work, I'm afraid I'll have to reset to factory settings...
Can you just reflash the system partition and not touch user data? I think that might work.

Reflash? Do I need root for that? My phone is not rooted (but I was just wondering if there is a way to root the G4 under android 6 without touvhing the bootloader)
Update: I reset to factory settings, now I have to get everything back on the phone.
One advice: never manually install Google Play Services, I've read loads of people commenting that they had the same kind of trouble.
Even if you install the right version (the version I manually installed was the exact same than my friends')
