I think that's not quite right. The way I understand it's rather that you adjust your rom to play nicer with the radio version you're currently running and in the process achieving better signal reception etc.
Ril matching means, that you match the 'radio interface libraries' of your rom to your current radio. There a few scripts out there that will do this for you, but I don't know if there being kept up to date.
However I don't think that this is a really something, you need to be concerned about unless you have specific problems that need to be fixed.
Never change a running system and such..
my wifi signal strenght is quite poor nd i was lookin for the solution how to get it better

I always flash after I use a different hboot and it seems to make my reception better

It should be noted that different radio versions work differently depending on your location. Would be best to search that thread for favorable results in or around your area in the replies, then match RIL files with said radio version.

I have a Bell Desire Z unlocked that I use on AT&T. I am running CM7. I notice data drops. I will have full bars on 3G, then will drop down to EDGE for a few minutes, then back to 3G.
Any help?
This is pretty typical... a good number of users, me included had this issue and some still do! It reminds me of the Nexus one issue with data.. nothing you can do but try flashing a different radio =\... notice how the Desire z/G2 looks like a nexus but with a kb? also one thing you could do is force the device to use 3G network only.
take a look at this thread i answered earlier on forcing edge/3G.

cheers!
Thx man. Ill look at that thread!

When I had my G2 I used this Radio "Vision_RADIO_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17" do you have S-OFF and SIM UNLOCKED? by gfree? if so.. use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809
btw you can also try the latest leaked radio which is "Vision_RADIO_12.50.60.24_26.08.04.16"
I am rooted/s-off etc. If I were to flash the new leaked radio, would I be able to go back down? And it works with CM7? Sorry for the noob questions

yeah you sure would be able to go back down to a different radio since you have s-off, etc! go ahead and try it and hopefully it all works good for you
Flashed the leak. So far so good. No drops, staying steady at 4 bars.

Hey guys! It seems lately, my signal, wifi and mobile network really sucks. Its really bad with the 3x roms. My radio now is 26.02.01.15m2... I tried to do the virtuous ril to radio auto launcher but then the radio wouldn't even work. Its there a better one our what should I do? Thanks in advance!

try a differenT ROM
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
There is no better radio, just different. Download a couple of the later ones in the radio thread and try them out. What works for some doesn't work for others.
Oh, they change with roms? Didn't know that.. Relative noob. Lol How do I download and install them, like a ROM?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
In the development section there is a thread dedicated entirely to Radios. I'd suggest looking there.
I also had a problem with my WIFI on Desire Z. Only when I flashed a new radio it got fixed significantly.
Yep all you can really do is try a few different radios, the latest version is not always the best. Each radio may perform better or worse than the others in your specific part of your carrier's network.
The thread which has all the radios as PC10IMG files is great, makes it pretty simple to flash a new radio. Make sure to delete the PC10IMG file from your SD card after flashing, otherwise it will want to flash it again everytime you try to access the bootloader.
Thanks guys, as usual, very helpful!

Just to clarify, ROMs don't change your radio. They are independent.

I have a G2 with desire z hboot and running genY visionX B5 i was thinking of upadating my radio=26.02.01.15_M2 first of all i want to know the benefit of doing this and the best one to flash i was told it helps in battery life and communication enhancement ..............pls.........help...........:good:
I REALLY NEED HELP PLSSSSS :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
There are too many factors to tell you what radio will work best for you, depending on your location, who you use your phone, what ROM/modifications you use
having said this many find the latest T-Mobile radio the best (.19) of course I promise you nothing but for me it gives great battery life and reception.
There is a thread in the developers section with links to every radio for the vision, try a few out for a few days at a time and see what works best for you. There will also be a link and explanations of the benefits to matching some libs. Edkeys also has a thread on this as well, I suggest reading up a bit and running a few tests by yourself

changing radios in itself or having a different radio won't damage the phone, it is possible to brick your phone anytime you tamper with firmware, but unlikely so long as you read up and know what you are doing.
not by a computer so I won't send links but the search function works well, just search the dev section

well that's not always the case, sometimes gps will lock immediately still. its a good idea to wipe efs though, if you read through that thread and the other threads linked from it there will be all the explanations you need. but again flashing any one radio will not guarantee better reception, gps lock, or battery life, just most people find the .19 radio does

yeeeessss just flashed it every thing isss feelingggg kinda slow but the gps works great pin point me good but am still worried if i have to wipe
cos its slow now i have the wipe file ready which will wipe only the said partition shud i do it cos i hate "slow"
changing radios shouldn't slow down a rom, wipping efs won't speed up a rom

Thanks Guys every thing is good now been on maps for bout an hour did not consume that much power and after à few reboots an use every thing is now fast as before enjoying mu gen y rom heheeeeee

I haven't heard anything about the FM radio for the Sprint version. I know it is disabled for US versions, but is included with the international version. Is there a difference in LTE chipset?
I would like to get this feature working if possible.
Here is the .apk for the FM radio for international variants. (fails to install though)
bump...could this work?
Would love this as well.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Bump. This would be a nice feature
Sent from my Galaxy Note 2
I'm also interested in this. Can anyone confirm that the FM radio is there in hardware on the Sprint/other US versions? If so, it is just a matter of software, right?
bump.
Just tried to install that file and it wouldnt finish. It'd stop and give an error "Application not installed".
Dont think the radio is there.
I pushed it to system/app and set the permissions to rw-r-r. After reboot I get the icon but it just fc. I'll look a little more into it later but probably still won't work anyway even if I can get it to not fc.

US versions rarely have FM radios. in this case. there is no FM radio.

That's the one nice thing about the HTC phones for me atleast. I use FM radio for sporting events. And the Evo 3D and the Evo 4G had the FM radio available to use.

Wow, you sound soo sure. Where is your source?? Samsung hasnt even made this documentation/ pinouts public yet, besides the user manual which I have attached:

na7q is correct when he says "US versions rarely have FM radios." See the old compatibility list for my FM app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059296&page=480
As to "there is no FM radio.", I imagine that remains to be proven one way or another.
I can give more information if someone, preferably with SU/root, ran my app here and sent me a debug log: http://d-h.st/rky
Use Menu-> Test-> Email-> Logs and after 20 seconds or so, press Send. Or if no email get /sdcard/sprt_debug.txt .
At a minimum, my guess is that a stock ROM can't support FM; rooted or with custom kernel, who knows yet...
Nice sharing idea.., i very like this application...

Thanks.
No sign of the needed FM driver.
In theory it's possible the FM si4705 chip is there, but would need a custom kernel to activate. But I doubt it's even there; it's not there on any other high end Samsungs sold in the US.
I'd recommend writing your politicians, but that's likely a waste of time and they ignore the NABs pleas to compel FM capability.
Uhhhhh... TuneIn?

Didnt someone do a tear down on androidforums and find the hardware was not there?
If I run across it I will post the link.
I very well could be thinking of one of the other many many phones released in the last year that does not have it

If you're referring to Tune In Radio, that does no good for local FM (think audio for televisions at the gym) broadcasts.

Will this mess with my rooting or put back the ssa app which is for activating?
If your on CDMA don't flash it, I heard cdma has an ota that blocks the boot.IMG flashing option. If GSM just use ota rootkeeper and you'll be fine.
Sent from my HTC One V using xda premium
You're right about the CDMA ota. It's a known issue reported by many Virgin Mobile users.
Thought So but didn't wanna say for sure since im on GSM so never read the cdma threads, just thought i'd leave that part to the cdma guys they know more, maybe they even know a update number or something so that the OP knows that if the ota is lower than that he can still safely flash it (assuming he is cdma)

Which also updates the radio. I had to reinstall it back to stock with the RUU nonsense to get back to the old radio in order to flash anything that would work for more than a minute without rebooting.
