Lte speeds inside a building (home) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

What are you guys average lte speed at home?
I live in Houston and lte is great outside but in my house. I keep getting about 4 mbps as average. Lowest was 0.8. Highest was 10.
It might seem weird but 3g seems to be more faster by average...
Is this typical for inside homes? I live in a regular two story house... signals were not affected when I had at&t.
Could it be that Verizon just doesn't have good signal in my house?(despite saying that, my brothers iPhone 4s has good 3g signal)
Or is it my device that's messed up?

I would consider yourself lucky. The best i can get at my house is zero to one bar of 3g. I probably can only download @ 15 kbps at most. Most of the time...i just sigh at my phone when im home. Verizon doesnt seem to like my house.
Whats funny is....i drive 1 mile out near a freeway... and instantly 4g kicks in and i can constantly get 30 megabits per sec down and up. Ive seen it shoot as high as 50 mbps a few times

Same for me. So I guess it's just a Verizon thing. And my nexus is fine

5-8mbps on 1 bar of 4g.

14,000 - 20,000 kbps. When I was with Sprint I'd be lucky to hit 400kbps.

Does 4G not penetrate walls as well as 3G? I go from 1 bar to almost full if I go outside my apartment building. I cannot speak to my speeds, but the connection strength is definitely stronger outside. Now that I think about it though, at school (in an area without 4G), my 3G disappears when I go inside a specific building. Maybe their walls are made of lead...

3g Speeds

I dont know if it is just a coincidence that the iphone came out today but my 3g speeds have went to a mind numbing crawl. With full bars and using speedtest app, I have not hit over 60 kBs all day. Stopped at sprint store and they said network was overloaded and they couldn't even run normal tests on my phone to diagnose. I think I am having issues anyway since I can't seem to get over 175 kBs in the last two weeks before today and I have a tower 1/4 mile away. I have dreaded the iphone release on sprint since announced.....hope this is not what I can come to expect from here on out. I've been with sprint for 14 years and really don't want to have to change.

That's about how 3g is for me yesterday in Torrance, CA. Very poor performance. When calling Sprint to ask about possible network issues, they kept me on hold for a supervisor for >30min before I hung up. Sprint's network is starting to be a major concern for me.
Sent on the run.
Where i live I am very lucky to break 50k and that been going on for about a yr.
I was going to make a topic about this earlier. Yes sprint did increase the data throughput. As soon as i woke up i checked my speeds as they could not sell a 3g phone that cant even stream music. Sure enough speeds almost at 1mbps normally in my area 50kbps to 300kbps.
I am not a lawyer by any means but since the actual sprint website says:
Sprint Mobile Broadband devices operate at average download speed ranges from 400-700 Kbps with peak rates up to 2 Mbps, and at average upload speeds of 40-70 Kbps with peak rates up to 144 Kbps in Mobile Broadband (EVDO Rev 0) coverage areas.
Sprint Mobile Broadband devices that are EVDO Rev A will operate at average download speed ranges from 450-800 Kbps with peak rates up to 3.1 Mbps, and at average upload speeds of 300-400 Kbps with peak rates up to 1.8 Mbps in Mobile Broadband (EVDO Rev A) coverage areas.
https://www.sprint.com/business/products/products/evdoCoverage2.jsp
Do I have any recourse based on what they say I should get vs what I actually get? Maybe a breach of contract or something or violation of TOS......thems my only legal terms I learnt and can use, lol.
In all seriousness, it just doesn't seem right that I am told I would get one thing and I am locked in for 2 years with it but yet I get another. Kind of a bait and switch thing..........wait.......another legal jargon phrase that just came to me, haha.
Increase In Speed
For the past month I been doing a speed test every morning as soon as i get into work. Till today I have not gone over 0.5 Mbs download (Honolulu, Hawaii)
But today I ran the same test i do every day and was able to hit 1.56 Mbs!!!!
Did a 4G test and got 0.1 Mbs ...super crap speeds as always.
Ran some more speed test on 3G and was surprised to get all of them around
1 Mbs. Sprint must have upped their throughput for the iphone 4 crap.
Wonder how long it will stay like this. If my speeds drop again after the initial iPhone crap I'm going to be very pissed.

Starting?! Man, sprint's network has sucked big bawls for roughly the last 2 years. maybe even longer but iv only been with em for 3 years. I got 1 year left. Hopefullly ill be earning more by next year and jump ship to verizon and their vastly superior LTE network...even VZW's 3g network matches Sprints 4g in most areas of Los Angeles.
3g gets me 1.30mbps down and .50mbps up. Haven't been able to test 4g speeds, as I can't seem to get a 4g connection eventhough I'm smack dead in a 4g area.
I noticed I dramatic increase at my work. I couldn't believe it. Previously it was less than 300 kbps.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I don't trust the speedtest app anymore. I did a test and it showed that I was getting some horrendously slow speed. Shortly after, I got a notification that doubletwist had an update. Almost 7mb program, downloaded and installed in, no joke, about 20 seconds. Did a speedtest on Speakeasy's website and got a very different result
Speeds have improved dramatically, but I'm not sure why the app doesn't reflect that.

Used speedtest to show show your 3g speed. Then close out and go to your dialer and press *18 you will hear beeps hangup and do speedtest again. Speed should triple.

Speeds have been fine for me personally, this is all 3G at my home in eastern West Virginia.

[Q] Has anyone else experienced this? (Upload speeds = Download Speeds x 10)

I'm just wondering if this is normal
(anti-spam rule won't let me post the picture yet)
so
Ping: 136ms
Download: 31kbps
Upload: 318kbps
Server: Optimum Online (New York,NY)
edit:
forget it, it must be due to heavy traffic because now its going at DSpeed = 500 kbps and USpeed = 500 kbps
That's not normal. Usually download is higher than upload. You have bad speeds like me though.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Looks like one of my speed tests. I'm starting to think for Sprint, that is normal unfortunately.
Never gets better for me either.
I have been in NYC a few times over the past couple of weeks. Its crazy there. You go from 4g to 3g to 1x within 2 blocks. The buildings and mass of people make for an interesting time on Sprint. Now I am 15 minutes away from the city and seeing over 2Mbps on 3g. I am in a fringe 4g area coming from my 7-10Mbps 4g in SoCal but having real Wi Fi for the first time more than makes up for it. I saw the 1x icon for the 2nd time ever in the city. The one encouraging thing was I was at Port Authority 2 levels underground and still had service and had service all the way through the Lincoln Tunnel. I have said it before... with Sprint its all about location and how congested the network is

I also very often see faster upload speeds than download. In my area, if I get 10-30kbps in download over 3G, I'm lucky.
Thats about what I get during nights and weekends. Oxnard, SoCal

4G in my area.

I have a permanent home in Austin, Texas and have had 4G there for about 6 or so months. Today I'm at school about 30 miles south of Austin in a city that has never had LTE. About 20 minutes ago I noticed the little 4G symbol at 1 bar and about 5 minutes ago it jumped to full bars and I had a signal of -70dbm. I assume they are just testing but does anyone know how long the process is to implement LTE to an area after testing.

Well I wasn't able to catch it when I had a signal of -70dbm. It's back to 1 bar -109dbm but I'm getting 6-8Mbps down and 1-2Mbps up with ping times around 90-110. Not that impressive but not bad for low signal.

I live in Salem OR and my 4G symbol came on the other day. Its definitely not official launch market yet but my bars have been fluctuating from 2-4 bars sometimes the symbol goes away an comes back I'm sure in a few weeks it will be official and much more stable.
Same here. Its starting to creep through my town, very spotty. Though I keep watching it get better and better, so I know this year will be awesome when fully implemented across all of Long Island.
I live in Lancaster Pennsylvania, and I just got a 4G signal yesterday as well. Not sure if they're testing or what, but I'm getting between -80 and -70 dBm signal, which is 3 or 4 (full) bars. I'm getting roughly 20 mbps down and 10 mbps up right now in my quick testing. All I can say, is I hope it doesn't go away.

Last week I was traveling from Portland to Lebanon. As soon as I got away from Wilsonville, no 4g, which was typical since 4g came to Portland.
I then planned to move to Lebanon (though not the case, going to Salem now...). I called Verizon to ask if they could 'hint' to me the possibility of 4g in Lebanon and he said they can't give out (or know, yeah right) that information. A week later, I now get 4g all the way from Portland to Lebanon, although Lebanon is really weak, but when i does connect to 4g, I speedtest at 4-8Mbps.
I didn't notice any breaks in the signal all the way down I-5, so seems his story was accurate in thinking the I-5 would likely see it soon in Oregon since it appeared they were working the main HWY from North Washington down. On my trip, I hit the speed test a few times noticing anywhere from 34Mbps down to 4Mbps on Average on I-5. In Tigard I was getting the Max LTE speed of 43Mbps consistently. Up speed in all those test and in Tigard ranged from 4-18Mbps. Nice!
Anyhow, so I bugged Verizon 1 week ago and now it's down to Lebanon (maybe further, haven't traveled beyond on I-5 yet), so you should "Thank Me" for bugging them to get it down this far!!!!
I'M JUST KIDDING guys. But, it's great to see Verizon making excellent progress. Also, what I was told was that all the major cities were now basically covered. The next phase is all the major HWY's, such as Interstates, etc. Looks factual to me based on what is happening. My Unlimited 4g hotspot just gained more value! WooHoo!
Happy 4g'ing.
-Cybie
I've had 4G in my area and a few others cities around me that are miles apart since at least December and still no official launch announcement for these areas. Maybe they have just been grouped into Baltimore even though I'm about 30 miles from there?
So I narrowed it down to being on the 3rd floor of the Business building at my school. When ever I'm in my CIS class I have 1 bar 4G but when I go to the bottom floor or outside even, I'm back to 3G. Kinda weird and I hope that's not how it is when they officially implement it in this area.

3G Speeds

Hey there. I just switched from tmobile to sprint after my contract ended. I switched from the tmobile gs2 to the e4gt. With the t989 I would get 10-23 mbs. With this phone I can barely hit 500kb. I was considering switching back. Is there a way to speed up data speeds or should I wait for an lte phone from sprint?
Apart from running the Verizon prl, you can't do much.
Welcome to sprint buddy.
Call the Sprint CTMS department and start a ticket.

That is the department that actually checks and repairs the towers.
I get up to 1.9 megs in the afternoon now.

Funny and sad how these '' slow 3g threads'' pop up every couple weeks. I did the same thing.
To the OP, like someone said before gonna have to do a search on changing your prl. That's what I did and it helped. Speeds still sick but at least improved.
Or you can wait a year or so until Network Vision hits your area.
I know 10 mbs was 4G but even with my vibrant I would get the 3-7 mbs. And how does Verizon prl help?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I must be in a good area since my 3G speeds are typically T1 speed at home and work but there are times like right now I will totally lose signal at work. A Sprint store is about 4 blocks away so I would think that would be in my favor.
This is a good resource https://network.sprint.com/
I'm sad to say this but I think I'm switching. It is way to slow and the verizon prl has a risk of getting my contract terminated. I love this phone but I can't handle it.
The Vibrant had HSPA+ as well...true 3G GSM data is maxed out at 3 Mbps at perfect conditions, just like Rev. A

But like I said 90% of the time probably more than that in 2 yrs I've only had service issues maybe a total of 10 days, thats all the hours added up and stacked end on end in consecutive order, I have 1-2.2 mbps down and 500kbps-1mbps up

At home in Queens, NY I get wonderful 3G speeds regardless of the time of day (1 - 2.2 Mbps) but at work in Manhattan I get absolute crap (100 - 300 Kbps with 4 to 5 bars of signal !!!). To make it worse, while testing the download speed at work, I see the transfer taking pauses of several seconds... it simply hangs for a few seconds as if it's waiting for something to happen. It does this on both download and upload.
T989 to 1989 speeds. You really need to determine if sprint will work for you in the first 14 days. From any other network, sprints speeds are usually a downgrade.
Unfortunately, I can't even use 3g in many places its that slow. I'm holding on and hoping it improves.
In the Cleveland area I get decent speeds 700-1600kbps, but at work 30 minutes west I get great signal but 200 kbps speeds or less on 3g!. 2 hours west in the Toledo area I get less than 100 kbps on a very strong signal which is where it isn't even usable.
I need an air rave in my home to get signal in the basement, and although the air rave speeds are good since they piggy back off of my home internet, it doesn't make a big difference since i prefer wifi in my house anyway.

When using the H+ network? My data connection switches constantly from 3g to H+ at my home. I get like 3-5 MB/s on average. I always have full bars and I live about 20 mins south of Kansas City.

Wow. It seems like you live in an area with HSPA+ 42 coverage. Where I live, I only get HSPA+ 21 coverage, which is more like 2.5 MB/s. When downloading apps I usually get around that speed as well. The 300kb/s speed you're getting might be due to server congestion, which has little to do with your connection. Only a few times have I had to deal with slow downloads from Google Play.
8-12mb average in Clearwater, FL. 2-3mb up.

Before the big LTE migration, I would get 10-15, over 20 on a good day. Nowadays I can usually get 5-10, sometimes 15. Rarely see 20 anymore.

I'm in Birmingham, AL, which I think is HSPA+ 21, and I usually get around 7-11 mbps. Don't think I'm really missing anything by not having LTE.
IMO HSPA+ 21 is good enough for anything I've come across so far (YouTube, downloading apps, web browsing, streaming radio). Unless you're a data-speed freak you're probably not going to notice the difference between HSPA+ and LTE, unless you download large files often.

The big difference I see between HSPA+ and LTE is latency. There is no comparison. LTE kills it, no waiting for connection and data starting to download. Also very noticeable in high subscriber density environments (Disneyland for instance). LTE handles lots of devices more efficiently than HSPA.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
Same area as another poster here.. clearwater/largo, on my T999 I get 5-15 down, 2 up, depending on the time of day... Since I got my S4, I get 29/10 all day every day on LTE, I laugh because my phone is faster than my bright house connection and cheaper... plus, as others have said, latency kills HSPA+, I cant even download stuff without a connection interrupt. I just wish there was some way to switch the S4 to LTE only and still do calling, but Tmobile AFAIK does not support voice over LTE...to bad you cant re-rout the wifi calling over it to fool the phone into thinking its calling over wifi.
NYC here. around 13-20 when I'm outside. Never above 20.
In Jacksonville Fl I average 10-15 download and 2 upload.
