hey guys so i stupidly installed franco.kernel 4.0.3 on my stock ROM 4.0.1.. and phone wont boot, I can only get to my CWM Recovery menu.
so what can i do, i want to put a custom ROM but I dont see how i can connect to my phone at this point... any way to mount it as USB storage, and upload custom ROM, and then install so it will work with this kernel

im pretty sure you can mount in CWM
go into mounts and storage and do usb mass storage ....i think, never had to use it so idk if it works. good luck!

you can mount to SD through recovery, in the "mounts and storage" section.
Did you not make a back up?
---------- Post added at 06:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:19 PM ----------
you can, but if you do not have the stock recovery, it might not work.
i have the unoffical touch-enable recovery and it wont mount to USB

try flashing another kernel, or install a new ROM

thats sucks. thats why i loved sd cards. stupid internal storage only
well i guess ur only option is to do a factory reset, if u cant get past the bootanimation.

You mean to say that you no ROMS at all on your SD card that u can flash just to overwrite the current kernal that is on there? You might have to do some reading on adb

ok guys I have uploaded a ROM to a directory i can install from CWM, so i'll do a wipe etc.. and install ROM?

Yes,do a full wipe (data/factory, cache, and Dalvik) then flash ROM then flash Franco's kernel.

ok i did system wipe and then flashed the ROM, phone is back up and running. I thought the kernel would stay anyways? I need to reflash the kernel?

Yes, most ROMS come with a kernel, some stock some not.

[Q] Help! Stuck on white HTC screen after installing root!

So I installed CWM recovery, and installed the rmk root setup zip. Before I installed it, I wiped the cache but not the Dalvik cache. When I rebooted, it hung on the white HTC screen. I went back into recovery and wiped dalvik cache, cache and even data and settings, then installed the zip again and it still hangs. can somebody help me? Honestly at this point I just want to be able to use my phone again.
Thanks in advance
Did you install the root zip that included the froyo stock kernel? I made the same mistake. Just have to adb a compatible 2.3 kernel into your sdcard and flash it.

i'm pretty sure this is the zip i used. if thats what you're talking about, then how do I fix it?
You cant use that .zip because it uses the Froyo kernal which is incompatible. You have to push jcase's GB kernal to your sd card then flash that.
I'm sorry for the stupid question, and thank you so much for your help, but where can i find that? and what commands do I use to push the kernel to the phone?
Have no fear as long as you can get into CWM then you are still good.
How long does it hang, sometimes it takes a few minutes for that HTC screen to go away, especially if you wiped data. you might want to wait, a little bit.
You can always download a stock rom(jcase plainjane rom), get into CWM, and then mount your USB to be able to install from your computer, and then flash the new rom.
Did you make a backup before you flashed the update, you can always recover.

If you can get into CWM, look for Mounts/Storage and mount your USB so you can access your Phones SD card from your computer, then transfer the file from your computer to your phone.
or use adb if you are familiar with that.
you did get S-Off first right?
yes i have s-off, no i did not make a recovery (i wasnt aware i could do that before i rooted but i have come to terms with the fact that I lost a bunch of data).
okay, so i put the file on my sd card and... what? is it a zip file? where can i find it?
just so i understand, once I get this rooted kernel, i will be rooted and i will be able to install the cwm app and go from there?
and i don't necessarily want the stock rooted... i guess i could go from there but for right now could i download a 2.3 kernel with a different rom? are kernels bundled with roms or do i need to install them separately?
sorry, i'm a new user so i keep having to wait 5 minutes...
Kernels, can be rom specific or bundled but currently for the dinc2 there arent a lot so make sure it doesnt say it belongs to a specific rom otherwise it might not work.
Jcase has a stock kernel and rom he put up a while back for gingerbread.
They will be a .zip file and all you have to do is using recovery choose zip file and run it, since you already deleted everything.
When you install a rom, it will add su and busybox, and root your phone. You need your phone rooted to be able to do anything, after S-off.
if you have recovery installed then you have CWM and really what you want is Rom Manager to do backups.

tiamat kernel is an AOSP kernel. for CM7/MIUI/OM(F)GB
you'll get bootloops if you flash it on a sense rom.
so should i flash that, then flash something like MIUI? can i do that? and do i have to wipe data/cache/dalvik before the kernel AND before i install MIUI?
thanks

I would get a Rom working first which is your OS, the kernel jut says how it should run.
but apparently i have a froyo kernel installed right now? how should I fix that?

please help...bootloop

fixed...sorry...
Thanks for starting this thread. When i do a search for "bootloop" all threads have at least 500 postings and i really don't want to spend all day trying to find the part that pertains to this.
I've tried and tried to flash an ics rom (any ics rom) and today decided to flash cm9 stable. Still the same problem...stuck in a bootloop.
Btw. I always clear all 3 caches 3-5 times.
I would assume my problem is with ROM Manager/ because when I go back and load my backup, it says the md5 sum is missing or doesn't match. I'm a;lways able to find one of my backups that match. Any suggestions?
T-Mobile
CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7
Dewizzed V2.5.2
Kernel Version 2.6.35.14
Android2.3.6
If you have access to a computer, download the ROM you want to flash, and if you can boot into recovery on your phone do that and mount your sd card. You should be able to move the file via USB to your phone and flash it.

What recovery are you using? It is a known issue when flashing CM9, if you use non-touch recovery and you use it to wipe your cache partition, you will hang during boot. Download TDJ,s cache wipe script to the same sd card as your ROM. After your done flashing CM9 & Gaaps, flash his cache wipe script as your last step, and you should be able to boot up. His scripts are stickied. Some say they don't have this issue, but a lot do and can't get past the booty screen. Good luck and let us know.
Thanks for the help. I just flashed CWM Touch and it solved the problem. I'm now rockin' CM 9.0!

[Q] S3 freezes and basically dies at random times despite battery near full

So weird phenomenon started happening yesterday. I was on cm10.1 RC5 and hadn't done anything new to my phone but randomly throughout the day it would just go black and not respond to unlock and basically looked like it was in power off mode. Only way to get it back up is to reboot but then it will freeze in 5 mins to an hour and power off again.
I thought it was a rom issue at first so I flashed to cm10.2 the most stable one right now but it happened again. So I tried to restore to stock and after I fianlly got it to stock on android 4.12 and then when I was setting up the phone it happned again.
One thing though, I booted phone into recovery and kept it on for more than 2 hours without any random shutoffs or freezes which leads me to believe its still a software issue. Any help?

How are you wiping the phone? Which recovery are you using? it does sound ROM related, because you say it stays up in recovery. It could be what edfunkycold talked about before, Sudden Death Syndrome

When you flashed billiard's OTA stock, did you keep stock or you flashed custom recovery, and did you keep root? From my understanding, only stock recovery will erase and rewrite internal storage. I would try it again, and do not flash custom recovery or root access. Let the phone boot up without flashing root or custom recovery. If it boots, and doesn't freeze and die for awhile, then proceed with rerooting and installing custom recovery again.

The only thing I can tell you is to try flashing again, without custom recovery, it should wipe and reformat internal storage for you. I don't think custom recovery allows internal storage to be rewritten. As long as you can get into download mode, you can always use ODIN to reflash stock image, should anything happen and the stock ROM didn't work. If your not familiar with ODIN, you can try mskip's toolbox here.

Try the toolbox I posted above. It will open ODIN and flash the needed files for you. YOU MUST FOLLOW DIRECTIONS VERY CAREFULLY. The thing most people miss when using this toolbox, is make sure your phone's serial number shows up, before trying anything else this toolbox will do.

Just wipe your data, cache and Dalvik/ART partitions in TWRP and reboot, that's all. After that your phone will boot to welcome screen etc.
Also I believe there is "Factory reset" option selected as default when you open "wipe" menu and don't click "advanced wipe". It will do exatctly the same thing.
