I'm sure this had been covered, but with the switching forums around, there weren't any relevant hits yet (maybe not fully split forums yet). Are you guys getting 3rd party warranties? I am getting close to a month here and figure I should fish or cut bait...
I have been considering this as well. SquareTrade has the best reputation, but with the cost up front and the deductible I'd have to be pretty sure that I'm going to destroy it in less than 2 years when I can upgrade from my carrier again.
Maybe just buy an otterbox and keep good care of it? Not sure if I trust myself that much, but the otterbox commuter is quite nice.
Eh
I've done a little digging around, but come up with the conclusion that unless you are a notorious phone destroyer, just take good care of it.
Global warranty group
Thanks for all the suggestions - otterbox has saved my butt so many times before, but this is the fanciest phone I've had too...
Do you get that global warranty group insurance through a third party?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
Yes, they are 3rd party. You will have to find someone near you that sells it, as they don't sell direct to consumers. But unlike assurion, they will replace a phone more than once.
A nice perk of AMEX is that they throw on an addition 1 year warranty when purchasing with their card so I decided that would be good enough for me
Bestbuy warranty ftw!

Yes I got mine at Best Buy and it's the best one that I've ever had. They don't check flash counters and what not but even so, I got my new phone instantly
Two days ago, I ordered a couple of these: http://goo.gl/9PSGA, and even paid an extra 25 bucks for overnight shipping because I have this certain instant gratification issue I can't seem to shake...
Anyway, I got a tracking number but noticed it was only being shipped First Class ground, which meant a 2-5 day arrival. Obviously, they made a mistake, and I was a little upset about waiting after paying more for shipping than the cost of the actual product.
So, I went ahead and emailed them this morning at 10 a.m. about the issue.
Thirty minutes later, my phone rang with an area code I wasn't familiar with.
It was a dude named "Michael" calling from Flygrip.
He began by telling me that their shipping department had, in fact, dropped the ball, and apologized up front for that.
But, he also told me that he had just personally just driven over a replacement of my entire order over to FedEx to make sure I get them first thing tomorrow morning (FedEx wasn't the original shipper; it was USPS, and those are still coming).
I was pretty blown away by the quick, personal response, but not nearly as blown away as I was a little later, after I happened to re-watch one of their other videos.
That "dude" Michael?
Yeah, he was only the owner AND founder of the company, and had taken time out of his day to personally take care of my little issue.
I was doubly impressed again, to say the least.
Now, I'm just really looking forward to getting these and trying them out, (I got one for my SGSIII, and one for my Evo4gLTE.), and also wanted to ask:
Does anyone else use the "Flygrip"?
If so, how do you like it?
Or, does anyone else have a similar awesome customer service story concerning your Android devices?

edit: Just noticed QBKING77 already made a review video of these things :

whoa. that's awesome though. important to see a business that dedicated to satisfying customers. made me even more likeable to buying myself one.
im just getting into car sales and this is one of the most important ways to make the customer feel appreciated and will give them the desire to purchase from the company again. its a win win for the business because 1. you're satisfying the customer and 2. you're building your reputation. What you did with this thread was just show how good of a company they are and subconsciously referred us to buy from them. I know I will purchase from them. Excellent customer service goes a long way.
QBKing77 loves the flygrip
http://youtu.be/mWIafpPjNw4
I would like to personalize one with a picture or logo like seen in the video below. But I don't see the option on their website. Are they no longer doing this?
- video from their website: http://flygrip.com/pg/create/
I just ordered one for my phone. I'm excited to see how this works.
Here's a review I found for it.

Well, it was more like $70 altogether, but now that I've used them, I hafta say they were quite the bargain. My only problem now is that I want one for every device I own.

I have always owned and loved android devices since the g1. I always got carrier branded devices and switch every so often. I thought it would make sense to grab a gsm nexus so I started researching, and boy did I research. I thought that the price of a gnex from google is not bad and i had enought money to get one, but for whatever reason i figured i'd check ebay, but they sell for the same or more used. so I checked craigslist- on payday i saw what looked like a great deal... new gnex with extra battery 300, so i contacted the dude and met up about 40 minutes drive. the phone was in new condition there was the extra battery and vanilla ics, tried it made a call so i took it. while driving away i started playing with it.. i went to the camera app, got a message stating to insert sd card, i was like wth a gnex with an sd card. then i got a call the there was a flashing led at the bottom. i got home and examined it well, turns out its a fake ( my fingernail can operate the capacitve sereen) it looks so damn real... now im screwed out of 300 bux. I was so upset i went to google and got a new one, so I should have it soon... learnt my lesson well.- i really didnt think that fake phones existed and damn they did a great job... i think ill just give it to my son- he will by happy to have it
Pics or it didn't happen LOL. Can we see it? Wanna see how good of a "job" they did.

^^ this. and you never bothered playing around with one in a Verizon store or Sprint store before you did this? dude...live and learn i guess.
nevr thought to play around with one, i was just going off youtube, but seriously its a DAMN good job will add SLR pics tomorro
You didn't notice the feel of a resistive screen? It is distinctly different from a
Capacitive screen. Also always check the about phone, storage, EVERYTHING. I hope you learned your lesson, sucks for you :3
PS fingernails can't operate capacitive screens

I would love to see this too. I mean, it sucks, but it's also a fantastic lesson to everyone out there. Don't buy things used carelessly. Ever.
I want to see this as well, I tend to avoid Craig's list nowadays. After I nearly got into a fist fight with a man after deciding not to purchase his phone which he would not let me hold nor turn on...

Yeah that's a fake. The site even looks like amazon, with the way it's laid out and even some of the graphics.
This is why I like buying things eBay over CraigsList. eBay has gone to great lengths to protect buyers. With that being said it is such a pain any more to sell things on eBay (major hassle listing/shipping items, excessive fees, picky buyers) which is why I usually won't sell things on eBay any more.
In your case though you got a fake phone, which may have been hard to tell when you bought it but hypothetically if it were a Verizon phone for example it could have been completely real but may have been stolen and had a bad ESN. Even then though I believe you can check with the carrier to see if the ESN is clean. I guess what it boils down to is you just have to be very cautious whenever buying something from an 'un-trusted' source.
On a side note, I just received my Verizon Nexus that I bought on eBay for $240. This thing was listed at 'Used' but it is seriously in like new condition, not a scratch or scuff on it (and it came with a nice case). I am absolutely loving the phone so far. Only thing I don't like is that I didn't upgrade to it sooner.

I'm staying away from eBay and craigslist from now on, just for certain things I guess- i got a sweet shih tzu puppy for 300 bux on CL so I guess in the end it all evens out. I'll just get a simple mobile sim and give it to my kid, so its not a total loss, he will be happy with it. I'm just amazed of what a good job they did with it. and the fingernail test is how I narrowed it down - compared it to my girl's SG2. Im getting withdrawals waiting for the real phone to ship from google.

Thats great news for folks who bought from googleplay, shame i bought mine in dixons :crying:
True. It doesn't count for those who purchased them in a store. I guess that would be the store's policy at that point. If Google offered it to ALL 16gb users who purchased after the deadline, then they could effectively double up on the rebate: Pricematch in the store AND credit from Google.
WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT 8GB VERSIONS? Holy hell, it's like we don't exist. I would like something at least from the fact they don't even sell my device anymore.

+1. Guess we get the shaft. Screen lift and smallest size.
Not sure if pissed or happy because rare due to size not being made anymore. Lol
now i wished i bought my device from GooglePlay. Damn. Got mine from GameStop with tax for 16Gb was USD272.
It's complete BS! I bought my 8Gb from the Play store, but as soon as I heard of the 32Gb I called for an exchange. They denied that model existed or would ever exist and said the can't exchange something they don't sell. Then they couldn't even return mine since I was a couple days out of their return window. I couldn't see paying the extra $50 for another 8Gb, but 4x as much makes a bit more sense. Either way I'm stuck now.
Too bad I bought mine back in August :/

Asus is doing something similar directly on their website for UK customers at least...
If you bought your N7 before Oct 30th, they are offering £25 voucher to spend at the Asus store. You just need to register your N7, and they will send an email asking for proof of purchase. Then you'll get the voucher/coupon code later. You can register N7's bought from any authorised retailer. I got mine from PC World :cyclops:
I pre-ordered my 8GB from Google Play and had it RMA'ed once. I think its unreasonable to expect a company to refund on a fully working product that they barely made any money of in the first place, just because they released an updated version months after release.
I can't help but laugh at the people getting pissy. Am I upset that I paid $200 for an 8GB version and then just around the corner they released the 16GB for that much? Yeah. Am I gonna pout and stomp and whine about it? No. Because that's the price of being an early adopter. Now i'm not the type that can just drop money on a new device. You have no idea how many dice I flipped and coins I rolled trying to decide if I should adopt or not. In the end, I ended up getting it even though financially I shouldn't have. But I did, and I early adopted. You should always expect the worse when you adopt early, and then not complain when you get shafted because...well...that's what happens. It's a tough and unfair game. That's life. Suck it up and deal with it like an adult. I can still turn around and sell my N7 for $200 on Craigslist to some guy who has no idea about all of this and not think twice about it. But, I honestly don't use that much memory and I rarely travel so I have no need to store my music and movies on it. I tether it to my phone and there's all my music from amazon and pandora. I watched a movie on it ONCE while I was waiting for my car to be fixed. But that's it. Sad this happened, but I understand that's how the game works. It's not fair and if I had a Google employee in front of me i'd let him know, but I don't so what's the point in crying about it?

I disagree. It's perfectly fair for a company to upgrade its products months after they were released. They have absolutely no obligation to refund anything especially as they already are barely making profit and bundled them with Google play credit.

I'm just saying if they are offering people who bought a 16GB version something, why is it that us 8GBer's get left behind like we are nothing? We bought a product that isn't even being sold anymore, I just feel like they could give us something. "A sorry you bought the wrong one" letter at least.

doesn't matter to me much.. Plus the one my friend bought me over the summer, was long before they even posted that. So I wouldn't even qualify.
That is a great gesture from google. As said above they did not have to offer anyone nothing. I got lucky with Walmart.. I spent some time in the Walmart store a few summers ago working on there automated doors and door locks.. Got to know many people there.. So I took my 16 gb nexus 7 back 24 days after purchase and the manager get me a refund. I then went to Office depot and bought a 32 version...
Im not exchanging this one. I do not need the 3/4 g version. Im going to get a nexus 4 when they come out. My phone is now 3 years old. So this is good timing. I can tether.
I Wish google would offer everyone some kind of deal . But life is not always fair in our own eyes.
Well I got 50 bux back from Amex. I posted my charge, told them the situation and they understood and processed the credit within the next few days. Score!
I am not saying that I am deserving or it was my right to get any funds back, but I figured I'd pose my case and ask. I felt there was not hurting by asking, the worst scenario would be that they would have said no. But they didn't.
Got mine on 7/12/12.

Honestly, I can't see why. If you buy a car, and a new engine comes out replacing yours 2 years later, you wouldn't ask for any compensation or feel stabbed. And we all now that technology is a fast market, where things are constantly changing. I don't feel bad at all for having spent 250€ on my 16GB. And, while I think it's nice that Google offers a refund, I don't think that's neccesary for those who bought the tablet (like me) one month before the 32GB came out. We all knew the possibility of a better model being out later, and we decided to spend our money anyway. We have exactly what we paid for. So what could we possibly complain about?
Has anyone seen any yet? My one gets deliver today and I didn't order any case yet
All those cases you can just get on ebay cause that's where they get them
