ive installed most of the ics ports on all of them they state working wifi
now on my phone it only works when it wants to but gingerbread and below its perfect
is this the same for everyone or just me and something that will improve over course of rom development
Only tried Sandvolt's ICS-Rom, but I did not have any problems with WiFi.
Do you run a full wipe before flashing roms?
Sent from dGB using Transparent XDA App
yes i did a full wipe as well as dalvik
it did work today though but after a reboot its back off
its also a gsm desire pvt4 with s-off if that helps but it leads me to belive its more of a software issue rather hardware as stock ruu and other roms work perfect apart from ics it is pretty volitile it either works or doesnt
I've tried two different variants of ICS Roms and I had the same experience. Under gb the wifi works, but under ics I'm getting a very weak signal.
WiFi appears to be a bit hit and miss
I'm running Sandvolt's ICS ROM, I find about half the time WiFi works properly, and the rest of the time I have to drop back to 3G (which can be pretty average at times).
Could you specify what exactly do you mean with "doesn't work"? Can you switch it on? Does it remains on and can you set up/edit a new/existing profile? Advanced WLAN and profile settings are correctly set up?

yer it just will not enable heres the logcat from adb
as you can see below it cant load the drivers is this normally a kernel problem i have been flashing by wiping all data and then dalvik i even returned to stock re rooted and reflashed i think its more a software error as any other rom excluding ics roms works perfect for wifi

if you are flashing Sandvold ICS rom, try typical installation. you can take the logcat by connecting your device to pc via usb cable and run following:
###assuming you have android sdk downloaded and installed
c:\%android_sdk\platform-tools\adb logcat >> logfile.txt

Well. How are you Venkat. I tested your rom and gave blue error when I turn wi-fi. OK. Now i installed the patch and no longer noticed the error, but every time I open the native browser, the internet stops working, either by wifi or by 3g. When I use another browser such as Opera everything works fine. The internet stops working when I open the browser that comes with the rom. It is connected to the internet but the connection hangs. Your rom is one of the best I've used. Fast, functional, stable. Still have not tested the battery usage. thank you

hmm now it was solved have a check plx and apply the patch :good:
After about a week of trying to debug wifi connectivity issues on stock samsung roms, I present my findings just for the sake of documentation Try these mods at your own risk.
Sammy's stock ROM suffers in the wifi department due to many factors:
1. From logcat you'll find something like this when attempting to connect to EAP secured networks:
Code:
I/wpa_supplicant( 438): wlan0: Trying to associate with 00:23:eb:e4:06:b4 (SSID='black' freq=2452 MHz)
I/wpa_supplicant( 438): wlan0: Associated with 00:23:eb:e4:06:b4
I/wpa_supplicant( 438): wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-STARTED EAP authentication started
I/wpa_supplicant( 438): wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-PROPOSED-METHOD vendor=0 method=25
I/wpa_supplicant( 438): wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-METHOD EAP vendor 0 method 25 (PEAP) selected
I/wpa_supplicant( 438): SSL: SSL3 alert: read (remote end reported an error):fatal:bad certificate
I/wpa_supplicant( 438): OpenSSL: openssl_handshake - SSL_connect error:14094412:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert bad certificate
I/wpa_supplicant( 438): wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-EAP-FAILURE EAP authentication failed
I/wpa_supplicant( 438): wlan0: Authentication with 00:23:eb:e4:06:b4 timed out.
I/wpa_supplicant( 438): wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:00:00:00:00:00 reason=0
D/SupplicantStateTracker( 348): Failed to authenticate, disabling network 1
This is due to an AOSP wpa_supplicant bug that broadcasts ticket sessions when connecting to EAP secured networks. This was fixed by Google in 4.1.2 so I ported that fix to ICS as documented here
2. Filters in BCMDHD (our wifi driver) not working properly. You'll find that bug by sniffing packets on very busy networks (like the one I work at). The driver picks up all broadcast messages when it shouldn't. This was fixed by CyanogenMod (Thanks Entropy512!) so I've ported that to our dhd.ko module that should work on stock as documented here. I actually also update the module drivers from 1.15.11 to 1.15.15.
This takes care of filtering out undesired packets. However, it only works when the phone's screen is off. So I changed that to work at all times. The change in code is also referenced by the same commit.
So, what does that mean to you? Well, if you have problems connecting to wireless APs using stock AT&T ROM, then you might want to give these mods a shot. For me, I am now able to connect to my work AP and I'm getting less wlan_rx_wake wakelocks that take my CPU out of deep sleep, hence much better battery life.
I'm attaching a wpa_supplicant patch and a stock kernel that includes the modified wifi driver. Both these files require a hacked recovery.
Enjoy it.
Note: I've also included CWM that flashes the module only. It may or may not work on other S3 variants and stock ROMs. So try it at your own risk.
a) If you are running UCALH9, you could flash either the full kernel or the dhd mod only.
b) If you're coming from any other kernel, you must flash the full kernel which includes the modified module.
thank you, good sir
Just to be clear this will only work with stock kernel? Or it can work with other custom kernel such as ktoonz.

Wording suggests you need stock kernel for this mod to work.
I'm going to give this a try when I get home from work, I don't use wifi often but my wife does on her s3 and she gets a little aggravated on occasion because of less than perfect wifi performance. Thanks!

load the module only and the wpa_supplicant fix.
The one that ships with the kernel has the stock UCALH9 kernel in it. If the module only doesn't work, let me know before upgrading your kernel to UCALH9.
Note: By "not work", I mean your wifi simply won't turn on.

The kernel version I suspect is not changed. The build date should. Do you have a build date of Aug 29th in there? If so, you're probably running UCALH9. Not a big problem if everything is running smoothly. You simply upgraded your kernel and kept the ROM system files intact.
If any issues should arise how do I remove the mod?

you can use cwm backup, then restore.
a more elegant and a longer story:
1. rename /system/lib/modules/dhd.ko and /system/bin/wpa_supplicant to anything you like.
2. flash my files
3. Not happy: remove dhd.ko and wpa_supplicant and rename the files you backed up back.
In this case, you shouldn't touch the KERNEL cwm file that I'm attaching. Flash only the module and the supplicant file.

any chance you could modify the wpa_supplicant to enable visibility and connectivity to ad-hoc networks. it has been done on other devices.
and regarding the "fix" on the packet sniffing issue, is anyone able to confirm if receiving wifi-direct requests still works between devices? where the "fixed" device is to receive a request. i have a feeling....

I can have a look at that. Got any sources that I can peek into? I don't really use any ad-hoc networks myself but I can have a look if it's a simple patch and recompile operation.
The filters on the wifi module in CM based ROMs match those of this patch. It's just that they were enabled only when screen is off (suspended) and disabled when screen turned on so I changed that. So if they work fine, this works fine as well.
In essence: if any packet is destined to your device, you will receive it. The filter only applies to packets that are broadcasted. On my work's AP, that's like 10 packets a second. Things like wireless printers, media APs, and some protocols such as Dropbox LAN sharing cause this kind of broadcast messages. Of course Dropbox will continue to work on your device because the mobile version never uses this tech anyways.
I cant find any guide or how to info on the ad-hoc network, just a whole lot of people that have done it, just run a search for " enable ad-hoc JB " or " wpa_supplicant ad-hoc JB ". Maybe shoot some of the devs a PM.

It's a little pointless to release these as his sources are out so if he wants to incorporate these changes he can simply just use my commit instead of me releasing patches to his kernel.

give this a try. lemme know if it works. It seems CM9 supports ad-hoc networks, so I based my patch on it and recompiled. It works fine here with my current AP but I didn't test it with any ad-hoc networks.

What does all this mean and how do I fix it? I'm porting a ROM to the S3 and I get all the way to the boot anim then it freezes. I know that could be any number of things but i'd like to start with this first as it happens first. I've swapped out the .jar files with those from cm9 as they are confirmed working. and the port ROM is ics as well. Cache is also cleared 3 times before install.

Well from looking at the source code for where that happens:
http://in-the-box.googlecode.com/svn-history/r6/trunk/InTheBoxSim/dexopt/OptMain.c
It seems that it doesn't want to accept the ICS version (revision 17) when it is running JB (revision 23)
I wouldn't know how to fix it, but this is a start.
As for the the "incorrect magic" error, try taking a look here:
https://groups.google.com/forum/m/?fromgroups#!topic/android-platform/oy4trrd0eKw
Thanks for the reply. They are both running ics. I'm porting sense from the evo 4g lte. I didn't mention that in my original post because the minute I mention sense people get all scared and think "oh I don't know anything about sense I can't help" but it's a problem that occurs on a lot of roms especially new ones. The reason I haven't figured this out yet is because no one ever mentions how to fix it and if they do then I can't quite figure out the search terms to use to find it lol. But any who. What we have done is used an already started sense port that uses a custom cm9 kernel that from all I can tell only had the bootclasspath changed to match the sense kernel. The first test got us to the beginning of the boot animation. Replacing libs in the lib folder got us a tad further in the boot animation but freezes half way. The rom is deodexed. We are gonna try reodexing and see what happens. But until then all of our test involved the error above. My buddy added the ODEX files back and the 27 vs 28 simply swapped places to 28 vs 27. We found that rather odd as well.
So as it stands we get this error. Plus a seg fault. We think the dalvik error may be tied to the fact that the rom is deodexed. Gonna try reodexing.
The two roms are both ics as I mentioned before. So how could the build rev be different? What could I change to get them the same? How do I find out what caused the initial DexOpt write failure that lead to the other magic number errors?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
We fixed the magic number issue by injecting the ODEX files back into the rom but still have a version mismatch. Gonna start from scratch with an the stock odexed jb update and see if we can eliminate the problem all together.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Sorry for not replying, but other than the version mismatch, I am out of my area of expertise by a longshot but this stuff is interesting to me so I'll read up on it and see if I can help

We fixed the magic number issue by injecting the ODEX files back into the rom but still have a version mismatch. Gonna start from scratch with an the stock odexed jb update and see if we can eliminate the problem all together.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having magic number issue on a port I'm doing. Can you explain how you injected the odex files back into the ROM?
i thought this thread would be useful , for all of us, who installed this ROM, for questions, troubleshooting.....just about anything....
installed this ROM yesterday, must say it is EXCELLENT !!!!
BRAVO for JDev, and all in OWL Project team !!!
way to go boys !!! and thank you !
once again i must say BIG thank you JDev, yesterday i've sent him a PM, 'cause i don't have permission to post (this is another reason to start this thread) in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283549&page=37,
and he answered my question within seconds...literally !
anyway,enough praises !!!
i found two, let's say problems :
1.when i try to play video ,i've got message : Can't play this video
2.after flash CronMod-INT2EXT+_signed.zip, everytime when turn on wi-fi connection, a kind of pop-up message appear : Invalid int:"CM101"
before CronMod-INT2EXT+_signed.zip, that didn't happened !
hope ,this will be solved soon !!!

Buddy,
No doubt it is a great rom and Great Work has been done by developers ... and I am not expert at all but
I faced the same problem but for Videos I am using Mx player and those are working fine and that invalid int cm101 was resolved when I used
CronMod-INT2EXT4+_signed ... instead of CronMod-INT2EXT+_signed
Hopr it may help ...
I am currently using this ROM as well, I must concur - it's really well-made. Works almost flawlessly, haven't had any crashes or anything related to ROM (though my phone hung up a couple of times, but that must've been because of a game I played). I saw quite a few of those "Invalid int:"CM101", but never really took it seriously. What concerns the video, I was able to play every single one thus far. You could try reflashing your ROM if you don't have much apps and/or data to lose. By the way, they recently released a new version, something along the lines of "Release Candidate v3.0". You could try that one, maybe it'll solve your issues.

Those numbers don't really matter, because the new features are indeed there. The new kernel, new governor, even the new scheduler, if I'm not mistaken.

yeah ok but is there any option in this ROM? Do i have to download something to make it work or maybe its build-in ?

This error comes from OWL Updater, you just have to choose All versions (incl. unstable).

I note that in this rom its missing NetworkLocation.apk package, required for the location by wifi or data.
copy to system/app and set permissions rw-r-r.

I'm the first .
Rebelos thank you very much for the wonderful work you are doing with this rom, I look forward to the new version. Using the rom I noticed one thing that is quite annoying, and which I have not found a solution. The time it takes between the bootloader logo, and the cyanogen bootscreen is really too long, I counted almost 2 minutes.
I use your rom, with the default settings and the bios that came with the rom. I installed: Slim gapps for kk, Z1 launcher and keyboard (as show by other users in the thread) greenify (free version) and Link2SD.

After what's explained at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49801598&postcount=448
I ended up flashing the stock ftf , but the system still won't boot, and the recoveries won't let me get in ... I can still access the ADB through USB via the recovery though.
My dmesg where the recovery gets stuck at says -
Buffer I/O error on device mtdblock1, logical block 1
msm_nand_read_oob_dualnandc: unsupported ops->len, 512
end_request: I/O error, dev mtdblock1, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device mtdblock1, logical block 0
^ this stuff above for all mtdblocks 0 through 3.
I would like to get a working device back, otherwise I'd at least like to be able to do a raw backup that I can recover from but nope. None of the partitions mount, although they are visible in /proc/mounts and /proc/partitions as well as /proc/mtd and /dev/block . dd if results in i/o error.
I need help super badly.

I am using Smartassh3 with SIO and I can't say I am really satisfied. I have to wait about 2-3 secs after pressing the home button using viber or internet browser. I will try the same governor with cfq now. Anyone has a better solution?

Hello rebelos, you made a wonderful ROM.
Thank you very much for that.
Everything is working.
I had one big problem installing int2ext. Automatic installation from update script did not work and manual install into init.d crafted a bootloop. I solved it by á adding a sleep 2 at the beginning of the script as suggested by somebody else in another rom thread.
I now learned that int2ext is quite dated and now Mounts2sd is the better thing. What are you using?
One thing that is not working for me is Firefox browser. I get a black screen and after some time Firefox crashes. It never worked for me in this rom.
Best regards
Sven
Does anyone know a solution to make the notification led brighter?
I can't disable the brightness control in status bar menu since I enabled it. It's enabled although it's unchecked.

There are 2 places where it needs to be unchecked..
1) Settings>Interface>Status Bar>Uncheck Brightness Control
2) Settings>Display & Lights>Uncheck Statusbar Brightness Control Slider

Tnx !
Problem was persistent even they were uncheckt. I'm enable it again in both places, and disable it both again, and now all is fine, sliding brightness control on status bar is disabled.

I have a big problem with the increase of memory for apps on our arc s, of course, on this rom . I used Link2SD and it works, but it seems very slow. On ics I used int2ext + v2, but on this rom the script has deleted the FM radio, and the signal of the sim. Mount2sd I tried but I can not configure it effectively, in fact, the size of the internal memory does not increase as I have seen in many guides. What do you use to increase the memory? Someone can explain how to configure effectively mount2sd?

I had the same problem.
I made a thread here. I installed int2ext v2+ manually with little patch.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623456
Next time i will try Mount<b>s</b>2sd . This was recommended to me by a forum member and looked quite good. I don't know if mount2sd is the same.
BR
Sven
PS: If you use Mounts2sd then you should mount applications libraries and dalvic cache to sd card.
Then you have the same as int2ext+ script.
If you mount data then it is the same as int2ext script.
Hello rebelOS,
Sometimes we experience heavy lag in gmail. I suspect swap to be responsible for that. Can I disable swap on is level or do I have to install an app for that or do I have to edit some init scripts?
I saw aorp is using 64 mb swap.
