I was installing a kernel with odin and pulled out the battery by mistake. now it wont boot or go into download mode.
I cant seem to find anything relating to bricked epic touchs that wont boot or go into download mode. most people who have problems can at least still go into download mode.
is this GG for me?

Does this guide apply to my epic touch? I dont see the "two copper pins"...

similiar problem
I tried to upgrade to 4.03. but i realized ( at the worse possible time) that the pit and other files for it were for another phone. Now I can't connect to usb or start my phone. It says there was an issue upgrading the firmware. But I can however get into Odin/Download mode on my phone still. Is there anyway to fix this through an SD card install?
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-epic-4g-touch-jtag-brick-repair/
I accidentally flashed the t989 pit. Hard bricked where it wouldn't even power on. These guys were able to jtag my device back to life. Had my phone back within a week. They have a forum on XDA somewhere if you want more feedback. If you decide to sell "as-is" PM me.

Unfortunately my friend your phone is bricked. I have seen this numerous times in the last couple of months and the only way to recover your device is a jtag service, as someone mentioned above. The ROM you flashed is most likely an international version which is definitely NOT compatible with our device. The bootloader disables the usb port which in turn causes for you to not be able to connect to your computer. You can test this by going into download mode, and if you do not hear any dings when you plug into the computer, there is no chance. Most likely, your bootloader has either been corrupted or usb has been disabled.

Hey endofwed, my last post was for mortalitas91 he has a different set of circumstances than you. A jig should work in your case. Do you have the link to which file you tried to flash?
Both OP's and the second guy's phones are fukt. Sorry for the bluntness but Jtag is the only hope for both. Mobiletechvideos. Google search.

When you say you can get the phone into download mode does the computer recognize it then? If so it is most definitely NOT bricked. I had the same situation happen to me when I first rooted I flashed a rom for the galaxy I9100 thinking it was my phone because thats what it says when you turn it on. Turned out to be wrong and I couldnt connect through usb when the phone was booted either and couldnt acess my sd card. I could however get into recovery and acess the internal storage but that didnt do me any good because I had no roms on there. I was also able to get into odin mode so I just flashed back to stock through that. If you can connect through odin you are golden!
i think that is what i did. i flashed the ICS rom for the GT-i9100 . I can get it into odin mode (power button volume down) and factory mode with my usb jig. but it won't connect through usb. I saw something earlier about some king guy fixing that. but i haven't found out the instructions for it. ~ Mortalitas91

Ya same here and it definitely does seem like allot of people are bricking lately! It is because of samsungs tricky model numbers. Like I said in a previous post I almost bricked my phone too I flashed a rom for the GT I9100 but luckily Odin recognized my device still! Also Qbking is the man even though now I am at the point where I am 100% sure I know how to flash I still just watch his videos before I do just to be 110% sure. He DEF is the man!

so I was installing a new boatloader through odin and it failed to install; so I disconnected it. Ever since then, my computer simply will NOT recognize my phone. I have tried every possible method (using different slots and cable). Still, it will not recognize my phone at all.
Has anyone here ever encountered a similar situation and have found a solution?
I would highly appreciate any help. Thanks
What does the phone boot to?
Have you tried a USB jig?
The bootloader takes seconds to flash. Did you really press start and immediatly pull the USB cord? or did it not complete then you pulled the cord? If the latter, what did ODIN say in the logs?
I can get into odin or recovery mode with no problem, I loaded a custom testing version of an ICS Rom that failed to completely install.
I am waiting for my usb jig to come in the mail.
It installed like 80% and then said failed, then I removed it because it said it failed.
I know all my drivers are good because my sister has the same phone and it is unrooted and odin recognizes it fine.

If you can get into Odin mode then Odin should be able to recognize your phone. Are you sure that Odin on your PC is not recognizing your phone?
Also, try flashing the el26 stock rooted update through cwm. Calk has the appropriate zip over in the dev section.

Haha, in all seriousness though, I hope you can get it figured out man, bricked phones are no fun!
yes, im 100% sure, Ive read of a few cases of people having similar problem. Problem that come from disconnecting a phone while loading a new boatloader. Once that happens, odin will not recognize a phone even if it is in Odin mode. Ive spent atleast 15 hours in total trying to get it to work

Is this one made for E4GT or one for the european GS2?
If you can get into recovery just take the sd card out and put it in a sd reader and put a rom on there and flash it. I would use the stock rom. Something simillar happened to me and this is how I fixed it. I didnt have a card reader so I just used my digital camera, Thank god for that!!! Hope it all works out.

Good question! I almost bricked my phone by putting a rom on there that was for the international version! You need to triple check to make sure what you are putting on is actually for your phone!

Your problem isn't that you disconnected the phone while flashing a new bootloader.
Your problem is you flashed the european GS2 version of the bootloader. After doing that the USB port is pretty much disabled and nobody has found how to enable it.
interesting... any theoretical methods to get it to work? do you think there will be a solution to fix it?

Nothing should be flashed to the Epic Touch unless its in the development section for the Epic Touch. Even then you should read up and know the pros and cons of flashing it. I don't recall anyone getting their phone back after doing this.

Well Mobile ODIN won't flash the bootloader AFAIK, so if you have no way to flash the bootloader, the only other possibility will probably be JTAG, which is basically opening up the phone connecting to some pins/leads on the board and using some software to flash. I haven't seem anyone posting about this but probably there are techs who have the proper setup to do it.
damn, do you think if I go to a sprint corporate store and just say I was trying to update the phone via samsung kies OTA or something, will they be able to fix it? I am waiting for my jig to come in the mail to clear the download count, any opinions what I should tell sprint to avoid getting my warrenty voided?

Ya because like everyone else said flashing that file that wasnt for your phone messed up the sd reader. Same thing happened to me once but I was still able to acess the internal storage that the phone has built in but i didnt have any roms on there. I was however able to flash through odin and dowload mode. Thank god that worked for me! If that isnt working for you I gotta be honest I really dont see a way to get the phone back up and running but I am by no means a pro. I would keep at it. When I almost bricked my phone I was going to give up too but I stuck with it and the fine people on this site pulled me through! You are at the right place trust me very smart people here!
thanks, this phone has been bricked for a week, Im still waiting on my usb jig to come in the mail so i can hopefully clear the binary download count because I want to take it to sprint? since my usb and sd reader isnt working, will the usb clear the odin thing? if it doesnt, im completely screwed. im willing to short out my phone worst case scenario... I need it a replacement (i dont have insurance but i have warrenty)... any ideas? should i short it out or take it to sprint... what excuse should I make up if I decide to take it?
Will the usb jig clear the download count even though my usb and sd reader doesnt work. (the phone still charges through usb)

Ya if you have warranty i would actually just short it out! I had a friend that had an iPhone and he hooked it up to a computer with a messed up usb. It shorted it out, he took it back with his warranty info and walked out with a brand new iPhone no questions asked. If you dont and they see that it was routed you are going to be **** out of luck I can tell ya that. They definitely will inspect it to make sure there was no foul play with it trust me, best bet if you cant get it running is to short it out, and use the warranty. When you take it in just say it went off and you couldn't get it to go back on.
Honestly breaking the phone is your best option since the insurance will cover that. If you short it out or make the batter overload while it's in the phone then it's covered by the warranty. Also, clearing the download counter is pointless - if Sprint does manage to fix your phone it'll be pretty obvious you did something that made it FUBAR - mostly the international GS2 bootloader. Also, isn't the international GS2 GSM? Which means you can't reset it using a JIG, GSM versions don't support it.
Either way when you get a new one - make sure you read EVERYTHINGlet me say this again since people seem to take this stuff lightly: READ EVERYTHING BEFORE FLASHING if we had ICS for this phone don't you think the Dev section would be blowing up with ICS ROMs? Common sense seems to be the one thing that isn't common anymore....
Hope you figure something out though but I wouldn't hold my breath.
I tried to use Odin to flash Clockworkmod Recovery and it soft bricked, no worries dl mode worked, so I went to the rescue thread and tried to odin back. Got stuck on modem.bin, so I pulled the battery. Now it wont turn on, at all. Not with cable or battery, just blank. Help!
Okay, I managed to get back into download mode. Can anyone direct me to the proper odin flash? Stock is fine, stock rooted even better. I don't want to go through that again Dx Thank you

As someone else recommended to me, pull the battery from the phone and leave it out for a while. Then, hold down the 1 and power button (a little tricky) and slide in the battery. If the phone still doesn't turn on, try the procedure again.
I thought I had bricked mine and did this -- it worked after a few tries.
Also, another thought -- sometimes leaving the battery OUT of the phone for a while (like overnight) and trying it again works.
Thanks for the suggestion but I have already try that.
Actually I have been reading every possible solution during the past 2 and today I build my own USB JIG that has a 300kohm resistor between pin 4-5 and still not able to get into download mode.
Have left the battery out of the cell-phone for a complete day.
Have try keep push button 1 and power and sliding the battery in, wait for a couple of seconds, slide it out and repeat the process for a while.
Done the same using the USB
Running out of ideas
So your initial flash of CWM via ODIN failed. You then tried to do what? Flash a complete stock .tar file via ODIN and it failed on the modem.bin process?
It kind of sounds like a few things could be the culprit.
Did not use the .PIT file when flashing the CWM.tar
Bad or cheap USB cable
Bad download of CWM.tar and/or whatever you flashed 2nd
Moving of the device while using ODIN, which could have jostled the cable

Well, not sure what the problem was, I have been using ODIN since last year when I got my EPIC and I never had problems. This time ODIN hang in the middle of the factory.rfs flashing (I waited for 20 minutes and it did not went through) so I turned everything OFF and :O surprise, phone was dead
I try battery CPR, build my own USB JIG (that works like a charm in a couple of frined's SAMSUNG phones ) but my phone still nothing.
The battery is at 4.045V, today I will use a charger to see if having the battery at maximum helps.
This is my last thing to try, if this do not work I will take the phone to SPRINT and see what they can do.
If they can fix it, cool, if not at least I hope they replace it

Pull the battery from your phone and let it sit for a couple hours. Then put it back in and press volume down + home + power to get into download mode. From there you can use Odin to install the stock firmware. If after that you can't get into download mode, you have a hard brick. If you take it in make sure you pull you external SD before hand. I don't mean to be an ass but you are "the problem". If you were willing to play with fire then you should get burned. I don't think warranty should cover your misfortunes. Why should X company pay for your gambling? You know I'm right about this...
If you (not specifically) really have a brick then you should just pay for a jtag servicer to get it back in line. On your own dime.

if you are hard bricked and can not access the download mode for Odin, I would recommend the jig for few bucks on Amazon.

About 20 minutes ago I started Flashing Android Revolution HD on my device then the screen went black. Nothing's happened since then and now it won't start up or anything. What's going on?
I do believe that rom is for the international gs3.

Well is there anything I can do at this point, or have I totally bricked my device?

Yeah down volume, home, and lock button right?
I tried it and nothing. Same with recovery mode. Kies all can't detect my phone.
I guess I managed to ruin my phone :\

Yes, sir, please get into that mode for me but first make sure your phone is off and then i'll guide you through the rest.
BTW: Are you at a computer? This requires you to download a stock image for your device which is around ~600MB.

Can you think of anything else I can do or should I go into At&T and try and get a new phone under warranty?

Dude, this is very simple. I wouldn't recommended getting a new phone if it can be easily fixed.

Ok well I can't go into recovery mode or download mode on my phone. My computer recognizes a device is being plugged in, but can't tell its my phone. What should I do?

I have the tar file in PDA on ODIN, but I can't get my device into download mode because it won't respond. I tried hitting start on Odin anyway but nothing happened.
I was thinking I could tell my computer somehow the device is my phone but I'm not sure if that would help without it being in download mode.
Edit: I'm reading through the post and discovered people in a similar position to me, my charging light does turn on red with no battery in. I'll see if there's some magic fix on that thread somewhere.

Okay so we need to focus on getting your phone into DL mode. Pull the battery for one minute and hold the power button down for ten seconds; re-insert the battery and try to get into DL mode again.

No luck.
The only thing I can get it to do is turn the red light on when I plug it in with no battery
If you're sure you can't get into download mode then your best bet is to get a USB jig. They're fairly inexpensive, i'll link you one. This jig has good reviews and works for pretty much any Samsung device with DL mode:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0053H73JQ/ref=mp_s_a_1?pi=SL75&qid=1347248180&sr=8-1
Edit: I'll be buying one eventually to test it out. Just ordered one, it will be here Tuesday.

I'm reading all about how the S Series is almost impossible to really brick, so trying this USB Jig couldn't hurt I guess. I mean it's 4 bucks so I'll try it and update with how it goes
and Wond3r: Because I'm a dumbass
Subscribe to the thread. I will post my results when I get the jig. I read that it works in the thread I linked you to. Don't worry

Dude sorry to say but you are done, this has happened to plenty of people on this forum. Your phone is dead (the jig WILL NOT help you, you will need a jtag/warrantee to fix it at this point. Your phone will probably say qusb_dload or something if you try to plug it into your pc, further confirming that fact.

Hi there! First of all I don't speak english very well.
My Galaxy Nexus hard bricked yesterday.
tl;dr no boot animation, no recovery mode, no download mode, no response from computer.
I thought it had just a low battery level, I found it turned off. So I tried to recharge it but it gave no signals, no battery icon, nothing.
After an all night long recharge I tried to turn it on, to enter in download mode or in recovery mode but nothing works. I also tried to connect it with my computer with and without battery, no response, no "OMAP" device found, no sound from Windows for plugging it in, nothing.
I found this thread here in xda, many people has been redirected to it and found their solution to the brick problem.
I tried to follow all the steps but when I plug in the phone and start the .bat file nothing happens, just stuck on "Waiting for device".
The phone is unlocked and rooted. I'm running AOKP JB-MR1 Build 2 and Franco Kernel for a month, never had problems with them, never installed other ROMs after that.
What should I do now? Should I try to do something or just bring it to a support center? The phone is still in warranty, there would be any problem because it has a non-stock ROM?
I've red about a jig to force the Odin mode, should I buy it? (I found this one)
Thanks for the help.
Have you tried booting into Odin mode

Yes, it doesn't work.
have you your warranty on it?
return it and get a new one
It's hard bricked and a JTAG unit may force it into download mode, if you send it in for warranty, chances are it won't be accepted as it was obviously tampered with and they would find out that your bootloader is unlocked and charge you more money than the device is actually worth to fix it.
I don't understand how it could of bricked if nothing has changed on the phone for a month or longer. Nothing was flashed recently so how can you hard brick the phone?

Yeah, that's why I'm not sure to send it in for warranty. So have I to try with a JTAG first?

I'm not understanding that too, I don't know what happened. Suddendly it stopped working. Maybe is just a battery problem, I'll try to use another one before bringing it to the shop where I bought it.
same happened to me, but I have an untouched phone with stock android. it worked well for over an year until today.
I see a lot of people having same issue, but they say that when connected to PC over USB the phone is recognized as OMAP.
for me the PC doesn't do anything...
any help? thanks

any ideas? thanks
Try This !!
Arrange a 4 ohm resistor and try to attach it in ur usb plug port of phone ..it 'll force the phon eto go in download mode or say Fastboot mode.
then follow a tutorial to flash any rom..
its quite easy else ping me !!

Please could you explain a bit more how to go about this? I have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus in a somewhat similar condition. This one is recognised as an OMAP 4430 device. I downloaded OMAP Flasher, installed drivers and tried to bring it back to life but after running the batch file I get this error: Operation FAILED (Remote: : Driver init error 0x00FF8080 - MMC CONFIG FAILURE). Can the resistor trick work on this and if yes, how can I go about it? I am not faint-hearted; I think I can handle it if given the right instructions.
After I tried everything i could from the internet, I went to a shop and tested to see if the USB is broken - and indeed it was. I replaced the USB component of the phone and after that it started.
Thanks guys

Yeah, the faulty USB port is a very common issue.
