Does anyone know if there is a Netflix app or version that has decent video quality? I was so excited to get it back when, but the video quality or lack there of drives me crazy and I can't even watch it.

Mine is straight from the market and shows in HD on my phone. It looks really good.
Are you on CM9?

That's the way Netflix works. It works that way even on other devices like the PS3 or Roku. The point is to get it on your screen as quickly as possible, and then as the buffer fills more, it improves the quality.

That's funny, i've never let it go long enough to see that. I just get inpatient and use my hulu plus. I have been using hulu plus since July and it is high quality right from the start so I just assumed it was a problem with Netflix. Thanks, you made my day!

Haven't seen this mentioned yet but does it bother anyone else that the nav buttons don't disappear in netflix? they do fade away but the video doesn't become full screen like in youtube. I guess this is a matter of netflix updating the app to make use of the GN screen?

Correct. The only way it'll be able to do that is when Netflix updates it's app to add in ICS functionality. That's all there is to it.
niice. they just updated Netflix for GN full screen glory =)

Came hear to say this
Is it me or is netflix not that clear. Important watching via wifi and it seems to have tiny squares. Also the buttons stay lit up they won't turn off. Is there anyway to turn it off while netflix is running?

Buttons can be turned off via screen filter in market...bad quality is due to bad internet connection. Try moving closer to router or not covering up the bottom of your phone with your palm

I can confirm this, even youtube video look better than netflix for some reason
I was watching Netflix earlier, and I noticed lines, very faint but still there, in the whole movie...
Weird.

I have noticed this problem too from the very first day I got the phone. Netflix quality is miserable with very low resolution... it's not the internet connection speed (WiFi 30Mbps), and the WiFi signal is not being blocked or anything (did a Speedtest).
It's not the phone either, I had it replaced 4 times when I was trying to get one with good screen (I didn't, just gave up).
This problem is also present while streaming flash videos. The strange thing is that if you download the flash video (same one with the bad quality), and play it from the phone (using the built-in videos app), the quality is fine.
It's as if the video is not being smoothed when upscaled and played. I could see that very clearly when comparing the flash playback with the downloaded file; like a shirt collar for ex.
Maybe the built-in app uses some different method of playing videos?
+1 Netflix looks better on my g2x and my hd7 what's up with that lol

I can think of several reasons...
1.) We do not have netflix hd.
2.) Large screen with piss poor resolution.

I think those lines are the same lines that people complain about when the screen brightness isn't up all the way. But video sucks, now that you guys mention it about flash video on the web i have come to notice that also.

Is there an HD Netflix app for our phone?

If you go to the website under your settings you can change the quality level.

Quality is usually adjusted on the fly but being a phone that in portrait only has 480 lines of resolution I wouldn't expect it to offer streaming 720P plus anyways. Watching on Wifi or good 4G should come up great but bad connections and 3g it will come out overly compressed.
Resolution is one issue and bitrate is another. The bitrate is adjusted based on connection speed to prevent buffering.

You probably won't on such a small screen but its the only solution that I can give to the question. Our screens aren't even HD anyway.

Using tubemate I can notice the difference between 480 all the way to 1080 easily and even on he fastest wifi there's no difference between the settings in android app
A big difference in ps3 app tho
I wish ps3 and android Alps had very own settings for quality like hulu plus apps do

Agreed. I think that netflix looks great on our screen considering the size. Definitely have to stream over wifi, sprint just isn't fast enough otherwise. Perhaps going over 3g is leading to poor display quality
I can't seem to upload the video, pics only it seems, but it looks like its shifting left and right quickly while the video remains smooth. Like the player is going nuts or something.

I talked to Samsung about it and they said it could be a software error and they want me to send it in for repairs. The shaking only happens when Anti-Shake is ON and it makes the video hard to watch, it kind of looks like a small earthquake.
I was able to use the Youtube app w the screen locked to listen to the audio, I can no longer do this, also happens with streaming any content on the web. Is this Jellybean centric? I searched numerous combinations and nothing. Anybody have any insight or solutions?

I have never been able to do this ever on any phone. When you put your phone to sleep, it shuts everything down. only way to keep things active is by using a wake lock and some apps dont have this built in. but youtube app will stop immediatly after leaving the application.

Actually I was doing the same thing, but that was long time ago. I still had my sgs vibrant. But I think google made some update or whatever and stopped that future from working, it was before I got my sgs3 (I've skipped sgs2) and loooong before jb come out. Were you able to do it on sgs3? I would love to see someone bring it back.

Yeah thanks guys. Im sure I was able to do it with this handset maybe it was my Vibrant. Seems like a silly thing to remove since you may want to listen to audio wo the screen on.
