[Q] CM7 - have to reboot after flight for data - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I have just gotten this phone a few weeks ago and so far i am having a great time. However, one of the biggest problems i have is toggling flight/airplane mode.
Whenever I turn on airplane mode and then it off, I have to reboot to get my mobile data back.
My phone is currently running CM7.
Any help would be appreciated..i have tried searching for a solution but i have found nothing.

bump....any1?

Yes this is a known bug with the alpha CM7 releases out there and I ran into it as well. After turning off flight mode you will notice that your APN's disappear and rebooting is the easiest way of getting them back and re-establishing your data connection. No other workarounds with the code at the level that it is.

The current iteration of cm7 is an outdated bug ridden ROM. It is what it is and is not going to be fixed. Use something else and just wait till the new cm that Eugene and others is working on gets released.

Loss of data on ics roms

Hey guys I've been away from the forums for a while now and I wanted to see if I could get a quick answer. I searched and am still unable to come up with a fix for this loss of data. I am running cm9 a4. I have been toggling on/off airplane mode for a quick fix, but I was hoping for an easier way to work around this. Thanks guys

I've only seen this complaint on cm9 and aokp and it happens to some people sometimes. I suspect once source is available this problem will be fixed but until then I would try installing the latest leak or a tw based rom and see if you still have the same problem.
Dont forget the A in cm9a4 = alpha
Are there any other threads related to this problem? I just got an E4GT two days ago and I pretty much immediately flashed it to AOKP, but the signal icon is almost always grey until I toggle data even though it shows 3G/1x. Does anyone know what exactly causes it to happen? Does data stay connected as long as I'm actively using it? I'd hate for it to cut out while I'm doing something (like using navigation, streaming music, etc).

Anyone else have their phone go into quasi-airplane mode?

Twice (in 2 days) my epic has gone into a "3g off" mode... Where the phone thinks it is on airplane mode, but wifi still works! Wasn't able to check if Wimax still worked... I googled this and found references to it from 2010 and 2011... Not a new issue (predates GB at least) and a reference to it as a "known sprint/Sam bug" that was very rare... If I look under wireless settings, it would show being in airplane mode... If I uncheck that, it would try, but fail to get out. My notification bar does not show me in airplane mode.
And the"fix" is to pull the battery while the phone is on, then put it back and reboot....which did the trick, but I don't believe in coincidence...something is up with my phone. I tried going back to a week old nandroid, and it had no bearing...seems like my actual modem has gotten corrupted? Or my 2 yr old hw is biting the dust... Very bizarre problem...

Never happened to me, sorry. Try Odin and reflash.

Yeah...that's what I was thinking, kg. And while I am running you're ROM, I think this is clearly a latent issue since froyo... I was more curious than anything since I had never heard about it before. Maybe I will use this as the excuse I need to snag a GSIII

My phone has done this sometimes, but only on CM9 beta 3. Since then, I installed CM9 beta 4 and flashed my modem to FC09. No problems yet...
I often get stuck on 1X until I toggle airplane mode and/or data.
I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd chime in on it to mention that this same issue has just presented on one of my Epics. Pulling the battery while the device is on does resolve the issue. After doing that all seems well. I have a feeling that this isn't going to be a permanent fix so I'll get back on here and update you guys if I experience this again.

CM9 on Epic 4g Touch CONSTANT restarts!

I just recently installed CM9 alpha 6 on my Epic 4g Touch but ever since my phone restarts so much! Its just super buggy and it acts as if im holding down the power button showing the options for Reboot, Airplane mode, etc. After that it restarts. It will does this almost constantly to the point where the phone is barely usable. Anyone experience similar issues? Any suggestions?
Using it the last few days w zero issues. Which one are you using and how did you flash?

I just installed it myself yesterday, but all has been good. I haven't had any of those problems. You probably should download it again and flash it again.

Really stupid question, but did you use "Calkulin's_FORMAT_ALL_for_E4GT" zip file before flashing CM9? I only ask because I have had issues in the past with other roms by forgetting to wipe everything beforehand. Even the savvy tech could forget something sometimes :silly:
I'm running the exact same ROM. I underclocked mine down to 800Mhz to save battery and it was causing constant restarts. I moved it up to 1000Mhz and they stopped. If you tried messing with the clock speeds that might have caused it
OP, did you fix your problem or did it just go away? I recently flashed mine to cm9 alpha 6 and am having the exact same problem. Never has this phone had problems before.

Anyone else having WiFi issues on CM10 nightlies?

I have a gsm Nexus and I'm running the Aug21 nightly, but I've had this issue for awhile, at least 2 or 3 nightlies. I'm not sure how long because I was on vacation in a WiFi free zone all of last week.
My WiFi can't find any networks but can't turn off. It perpetually says 'searching for networks' but never finds any. If I try to switch it off, the switch hangs on Off with a darker shade of grey for a few seconds then flips back to On.
If I reboot the phone, everything is fine for a few hours. WiFi can turn on and off and doesn't seem to have any connection issues.
My battery life doesn't seem to be suffering all that much, so it seems that WiFi is sleeping normally.
I haven't any logs because it's hard to pinpoint the exact moment when things go wrong.
I haven't tried wiping yet, but I'll give it a try if no one has any other advice.
Is anyone else having this?

Did you figure out how to fix the problem? I'm experiencing the exact same problem.
I wound up doing a factory reset and installing CM again. If that doesn't work, format /system and wipe data before flashing. It comes back every once in awhile. I have no idea what caused it, but a reset'll fix damn near anything. I had an issue where my phone thought it was charging even when it wasn't plugged in and had to return it to get a new logic board, I might've just had a lemon. Have you had any other hardware issues?
I had this issue for a while too. After I did a full wipe and went to the latest nightly it stopped happening. Also I turned on the 'always keep wifi on during sleep' option in settings.
I get it too. It's random, and it is not fixed by changing the kernel. Very frustrating.

WiFi Power Save Mode Back On!

After I finally got tired of being nagged about about the LH2 update, I updated. Bye bye root,Titanium and recovery Noticed that my GS3 started dropping WiFi again (3" from router). So I dutifully go into service screen with *#0011# and disabled it. Expected after a firmware update. However, I noticed the same behavior the next day or two. So I disable it again and performed an immediate reboot. Go back only to discover that WPSM has been turned on. WTF!?!?!? :crying:
same thing here...
Every time you restart/reboot it goes back to "on"

man, what rom and kernel are you using, I had a similar problem, so I tried different kernels until one worked, I am no dev but I think that the update/rom/kernels have some things to do with it, guess it's just finding a combination that works.
Good luck.
Search for and install WiFi High Performance Widget from the play store. You will have run some tests to verify its working.
If you go into the *#0011# menu the button will show that it is on. But other apps will show Power Management is off.
Just looked and it may be that Power Save Mode may be different than Power Mgmt. Not sure but it may be something to start from when checking this stuff.
Hope this helps you out a little. Sorry I dont know more right off hand.

Totally stock, and rooted. I am also having problems now with Titanium uploading to Google Drive. Only successful with WPSM off. Still hit or miss though. Unrelated(I think), but I can now receive calls on WiFi calling.
*#0011# not working
For some strange reason, the *#0011# method of pulling up the menu to access the Wi-Fi power saving mode ON/OFF button is no longer working for me. I dial it in the keypad but no menu appears anymore. What's strange is that it used to. Anyone else having this issue?
Also, does keeping the power saving mode ON restrict the range of the Wi-Fi signal as well? Or simply make Wi-Fi turn off when the phone is sleeping?
