EDIT: The update (2.0) is now live in the market, but you might want to BEWARE, read my comments below. These "bugs" I mention have turned out to be "features" of 2.0 so they will break what I listed. Update at your own risk. For me and the way I use Dropbox, the new pretty UI was definitely not worth the lost functionality. Fortunately I came across another Beta version (1296) that brings all the goodness of the UI update without breaking any of the good stuff the old version had! New file below
I just received a Dropbox Pre-release Update that I thought I'd share with the good peeps of XDA. (Posted this in Android Apps too, but thought I should take care of my E4GT peeps directly.)
Some nice updates coming down the pipe, but we get to play with it now. (Make sure you have a backup of your folder and previous DB setup.)
From the email:
Here's the stuff we've added:
• Favorites: quick offline access to files
• Bulk upload photos and videos
• Access all file and folder actions with just one tap
• Improved gallery view
• Upload from and export to your phone's memory
• Rename files and folders
• Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) improvements
• Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements
EDIT: Some nice UI changes, but some bugs in this as well:
The sdcard/Dropbox file is moved to sdcard/Android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch and will no longer play nice with wallpapers, ringtones, etc.
You now add files as Favorites to make them available offline, but there is currently no way to make folders favorites, so you would have to mark each file you want to use offline
No longer an indicator showing whether a file is already downloaded or not
Added bulk upload, but still no bulk download
Lost the updating/downloading notification on the status bar, now we don't know when the files finished uploading/downloading
And here's the apk. If you still want to give it a go. And the Dropbox Forum discussion if you want to join in.

You're welcome. It's a pretty nice setup. Will be nice when they get a controllable two-way sync for Android in the native DB app.
@jerdog, sorry bud, meant to post this in Themes and Apps. Feel free to move if it is not General enough
I'm kinda upset Android just now getting this update when IOS had it for months

Based on the DB forums, looks like a different update and it's easier to work on iOS with it's limited number of variables (screen sizes, versions, vendor UI's, etc.) compared to Android. So it's not surprising that it generally takes development longer for Android apps and updates.

Not at all. In fact if you go to the forum page I linked in the OP, you can find the link for the apk there as well.
I don't understand how they still don't have two way syncing on the native app, but look on the market and you can find apps that do this just fine.
Why.jpg
Is this different than the "unreleased beta" that's been floating around XDA for about a month?

No idea, I haven't seen that one and nothing came up with Dropbox1306 when I searched, so probably not. As far as I can tell by the DB forum, this just came out today to beta testers. I only received it in my email about 30 minutes before I posted it so I think it is fairly new. Do you have a link to this "unreleased beta" that you are talking about? It would be pretty easy to tell if it's the same.

I think I just answered my own question, as I realized my "beta" file is called Dropbox1296... Anyhoo, here it is: http://db.tt/fOjjMX2q (and it's awesome).
But if this new one is an update of that^, (and, number-wise, it seems like it must be) then I'm switching, as Dropbox just gets better and better with every update.

If you give the one I posted a go, make a nandroid first and copy your sdcard/Dropbox folder to your PC because the latest removes it and moves the files into a Data folder tree. I still haven't received a good answer as to why. Wouldn't be a big deal, but I think it screws up the ability for the phone to recognize the files for media purposes (i.e. ringtones, wallpapers, etc.) Check out the forum link I posted and you can get a feel for what's going on.

I just updated the OP with more info on a different Beta I discovered. This is the beta before 1306 and provides all the beauty of the new UI with all the functionality and ease of the old version! Really good stuff. Personally, I wouldn't update in the market. I'd use 1296, I am.

Hey buddy:
*Thanks for the link in the OP to the Forum about the whole thing: after trying both, and realizing what you'd be giving up with either 2.0 or 1306, I'd have to agree with you....
1296 is where it's at.
I might make the suggestion that anyone who goes this route should definitely turn off automatic updates in the Market.
(I've accidentally done this before: I'll find a beta of something that I really like, and then forget the fact that it is a beta, then update it through the market: thus losing the functionality I had loved from the beta version.)
Anyway, thanks for the option: if I hadn't read up on it, I'd have just blindly updated it, just because of the version number.

No problem. The only issue or "enhancement" with 1296 is this new "feature" they have for downloading files. No more long pressand automatically into the appropriate folder. Now it's "download"and then select a location. But at least we keep the /sdcard/Dropbox root folder in this version!
If Dropbox actually listens to its community, those "enhancements" should be dealt with in the next update.

As I understand it you'll need root access to delete the old gmail apk and move the new one to system, so yes.
You don't need CWM or a rom though, just root access on a stock rom and recovey will be fine.
Well I had to take it off, somehow it seems my google music stopped working after installing this. I made a nandroid backup beforehand and as soon as I rolled back my music worked again. Strange. Really seems weird that would cause any issue at all... Maybe it somehow messed up the account syncing since it would only crash the music when I tried to stream music, local content was fine.

Awesome, trying this now. Been hoping for this. The all white makes my eyes water in the morning because it is so bright...
The date on each email looks a little funny because its color is off, and at times goes outside the border. Also the read vs unread black/grey are very similar. It works though. I'll probably live with it.
I've been using this dark gmail app for days and like it. But just today i realized i went to compose a message and there is no way to send the final email. Am i missing something? Doesnt matter whether its a new email, or a reply to an existing email message, i cant send anything!
Am i being stupid or can someone test or confirm this? Thanks.

Been using these for a few weeks on gummy and CNA. Working great and they look good too.
Ok after more digging, this dark gmail is acting weird for me. It is the new ice cream version for everything including inbox etx. But when i compose a new email or reply to existing one, the compose window goes back to the gingerbread one, AND it has no send button. And no action bar etc. But if i go back to the inbox its fine there. I just cant compose.
Only change ive done is 2 days ago flashed the transparent status bar system ui apk. Im on stock 4.0.1. Anyone know what the heck could be going on here?

i just installed the gmail app from that link, and it is the old version just like it said. not the new ICS version. dammit i just want black gmail!
this might help other people. the link in the beginning of the thread had a broken gmail apk, the send button was missing with other stuff. it was all fixed and can be had over at this thread from the nexus s forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412997
that thread actually links back to the one at beginning of this thread, but dont know yet if they updated to the fixed send button version. anyway this has been driving me nuts and glad i finally found the solution.
regarding the other link to the (http://www.rujelus22.com/evo/downloads.php) i tried the google + from that and it also did not work, and broke my system UI. so i dont know if it needs to be for 4.0.3 or what, but i'm on 4.0.1 and it doesnt mention any info about that. hope this saves others some time!
Does anyone have the apk? Can't get it from the market even though I already have the older version on my phone. Looking for v3.0, that was released 4/25/12/
here you go.
Awesome, thanks!

gingerbread wasn't 2.0. eclair was 2.0/2.1. froyo was 2.2; gingerbread was 2.3.
the small steps in versions are because they aren't big enough updates to warrant a big step in numbers. they are just incremental updates.
Flash works on stock browser on S3, make sure your on ICS for official support. For JB, you can search XDA there is a thread on how to make it work. Flash doesn't work on Chrome regardless of ICS or JB.

+1 Adobe ceased all support for android above 4.x, ICS and above... see article here and the list of compatible devices here.
And the video has so many uneeded steps, just download the apk and side load it with any file manager and use the Boat, Firefox or Dolphin browsers. Another work around is Skyfire, but that is outdated and las update was 2011...

Same here, there many sites that I go to to view video that are still in Flash (flv) format and the HTML5 take over will take a few years to get there. Youtube was one of the first adopters of HTML5, but many are still falling behind.
Thanks to this thread I've found the Boat Browser, was using Dolphin a lot more than Chrome. I find Chrome lacking and missing some features, expected a more robust experience. I'm going to keep it for now and see how it evovles over the course of time.
I'm using the xscope browser along with the swf player from Market. It's working pretty good...perhaps it'll work with chrome browser as well. Might wanna give that a shot.

After my longtime fight to get away from Dolphin browser I finally settled on Chrome. I use an app now called 'flashify' in the Play store. Whenever I hit a snag I share the page to Flashify which in turns allows me to carry the link over to another browser. In this case its the 'OCS Browser included in/with JellyBomb ROM.
Really bored one day I decided to track my battery usage and internet connections. I found that Dolphin was a bit of a hog compared to others. Can't get into the swing of Firefox. Used to use Boat but it seemsBoat was just right behind Dolphin Browser is size/data hog. It didn't really slow anything down that I could tell but I just felt Chrome would be... Less of a mem hog/battery/data hog than Dolphin. I could be wrong.... But seems to worm better for me. Just a thought...

yeah ive noticed that adobe flash is no longer in the market anymore, only reason why i was able to download from the market was because on the first day i got the gs3 i saw it once and download it on stock kernel, when i rooted and flash my rom it desappeared from the market, later found it under apps that i installed from my previous phone up until now from the new google data recovery. Now everytime i flash a new rom i can get it from the market throught the google recovery. forgive my ignorance, but whats so great bout the new HTML5 versus the adobe flash and what new features is it having?

I have Galaxy s3 with SlimRom 4.4.4 build 7.0 and using instagram version 6.5.0
I'm trying to upload a video I rendered using Premier Pro to instagram, I used the setting I found on this site, ... okay can't post links but if you google "premier pro instagram settings" look for a post on a site called whoismatt dot com where he details effective settings for premier pro to export an instagram compatible and mobile friendly h.264/mp4 file. These settings have worked before.
The upload bar goes halfway and then instagram tells me the video failed to upload, no other error and I don't know how to pull any logs from the app to see what is actually failing.
At one point I was able to upload videos, I was using an earlier version of SlimRom (no clue what build but it was still 4.4.4) but since I updated to build 7 it hasn't worked. I did a clean update too, wiped everything off my phone and installed a fresh rom, Slimrom 4.4.4 Build 7.0.
Apart from the rom the only other major modification to my phone is using V6 supercharger, no OC. I had this problem even before I applied the V6 mod, after I installed build 7 of my rom.
Any help on this? I am and amateur photographer and film maker so I really would like the ability to post videos of things I make on instagram but I'm also very picky and like editing my videos before posting them.
As for looking on the forums and googling for the answer, the only things I keep finding are "instagram fails" or people complaining that instagram doesn't have this or that feature. At one point I saw a mention of a temporary folder being out of the permission scope of the instagram app so it causes the upload to fail but other than a bit of speculation there was no definitive answer on how to fix that. I also believe that was on a different phone/rom.
Thank you.
Looks like there was an update to the app a week or two ago. Maybe that could be why?

Yeah I'm hoping someone using it will post on here, but doesn't seem like it. The thread for that rom has been moved in to the developer area and I can't comment on it. I also don't think my problem is severe enough to PM the dev and hog up their inbox.
