[Q] How to remove mnt partition - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need your help guys, please.
I was so excited to try the new .62 firmware (rooted) by means of first flashing a .42 firmware + root and then OTA to keep the root, but the problem was that I flashed an LT18i firmware on my LT15i machine and now I am stucked with a /mnt/sdcard partition that I can't remove.
It is a problem because I can't get CWM to work anymore with this mnt partiton/stuff.
Please help me and advise how to fix it
I have an LT15i with locked bootloader (ps. I have no SD-card reader).

/mnt/sdcard/ actually IS your sdcard
(/sdcard is a symlink to /mnt/sdcard to be more precise.
/sdcard is what you see from USB, basically the directory as it appears from the hardware.
/mnt is where mounted volumes reside, so /mnt/sdcard is just the SD card as seen by the OS.
I am pretty sure it was always like this and this is not the reason why CMW recovery isn't working for you.)
But to answer your question: in order to remove it, you have to physically remove the sdcard from your phone.

is this really possible?what will happen if you flashed LT18i firmware on LT15i?

First of all, I really can't understand why would anyone want to do such thing...
Arc S has a different processor and there are also minor differences in the display drivers. Not to mention different mtd blocks.
I don't know what will happen, but I can tell you what will NOT happen: you will NOT get a faster (overclocked) processor.
Worst case scenario, phone will boot and the ROM will be malfunctioning or not boot at all. And there's an even worse scenario where something will be damaged irreversibly.
Best case scanario, it will boot and actually work but still be the same old Arc we all know and love.

The llittle violett animal/fox in your thread is soooo cute.
Thanks for your explanation, so it must be the .62 firmware that make problems for the CWM then?

Yes, I think that either the OTA update being meant for the Arc S messed the partitions up, or the previous rooted system got damaged and recovery can't mount correctly. I advise you to go back to .42, reroot, reinstall recovery easily directly from your phone with this app and restore your latest nandroid backup! Good luck!

phone not working right

so my phone has been having problems the first problem is
i can not update to 2.3.3 thru the update option it just force closes when i click update
when ever i try to use my phone as a usb device and right when i drag and drop a file to my memory card it locks the phone up and makes it reset
my phone will randomly lose all data connection alot if i use the web alot on it
ok my play is the r800X that is rooted with unlockboot loader and has 2.3.2
how do i go about updating my phone to 2.3.3 and still have root? i am no good with ADB and i cant really push files to memory card because it just forces my phone to shut off
Don't update OTA with an unlocked BL it'll brick your phone (there's a working fix for that now, but waste off time to go that way ). Even if you could update OTA it might not solve your issues as it's not the whole FW that get's updated like a clean flash.
I would find the newest FW matching your phone/carrier (2.3.3 R800x FTF file) and flash that with flashtool. Then root with either booting CWM and flash the root.zip or use zergRush.
I'm sure your issues will be gone with a fresh flash.
Regards Dousan...
im looking at the state of dev thread and i dont know which one to download, im on verizon with 2.3.2 right now and wanting to go to 2.3.3
i wanna make sure i download the right one and not get a brick. could you link me the file
Bump? i dont know what to do and i did google it and well it took my to a place where a guy is asking the same question lol

I just realized that you got a R800x and when using flashtool it will relock your bootloader, that's what it states in this thread (see link below), where you also can find you ftf file (he's calling them tft files though). I can't see wich FW build the 'full system ftf' file is, but if you choose to flash it, it shouldn't matter as you'll be able to update OTA afterwards if it's build 2.3.2 and then root with zergRush. I'm not sure if you'll want to keep you bootloader unlocked? If you want to keep it unlocked you need to flash another file. Grab 'stock system 2.3.3', but it says it's not tested so there might be a chance of that not working? If you just want root there's no need for an unlocked bootloader imo and i would proceed with flashing through flashtool, update OTA and then root with zergRush:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201725
One thing i would do before this is making a backup of your data (bookmarks, contacts, gamesaves, games apk's etc.) cause they'll be lost when flashing with flashtool as i recomend to wipe data also when flashing. I take that all files linked in the stock rom section of that thread is for R800x (verizon stock).
Regards Dousan...
yea i dont really care about the boot loader being unlock if i can still get root with out it. so do i just download Full system FTF, and then download flashtool and run it and my phone should be back to stock 2.3.2 and then run OTA for 2.3.3 and then use zergrush for root and im done?

[Q] [SOLVED] help I messed up and can't get in to CWM

I got my LT18i .42 Locked Bootloader. Rooted with zergrush, installed CWM using the Xperia CWM installer from the market, and all was perfect... Then updated my phone using companion %&@@&%. Then read that I can't root .62, so I downloaded a .42.ftf, flashed it booted it and noticed that now I had a LT15a at first thought it booted so should be ok I'll do a OTA update see what happens. Rooted, CWM installed. Reboot, reboot, press (any key) freezes at boot logo. Using Rom manager to reboot to recovery just reboots normally to android. For the past fiew days I was reading up on this, but could not find any definitive resolution. Tried reflasing proper LT18i .42, .58 using flash tools, and using wotan client. Tried repair with both companion and SE update service, then downgrade with flash tools and with wotan, obviously I don't mean all at once just different methods . Root seems ok titanium works I can get in and edit system/bin, /xbin. I tried manually moving the files for CWM, and changing permissions. All with no luck. Yesterday I came across a post that said that the LT15 room might have changed something to do with mounting the sd. But no explanation. I'm not a complete noob but need assistance on this.
Thanx guys.

I got Locked Bootloader BTW.

I have been thinking verry hard about that, but still on a contract, so dont want to mess with that. i have been plaing with fiew rooms on my X8 (unlocked Bootloader) before i got this ARC S, and not without snags, but allways managet to get it back up. Do you think it's the bootloaders fault??
BL
I can't tell you for sure but I would suggest you to unlock it (75%) . Download this LT18i_4.0.1.A.0.266_CUSTOMIZED-UK -( mediafire.com/?ie832txe46ia2bh) Always worked for me to do a clean install if i was gonna flash-it, download ROM Manager again and it should work. Gotta love playing. .
I'll Try it Thank you.
flashing with flashtools, or wotan should wipe all left over date, cash, davlik, ect..
unlike using CWM to install update.zip where you need to do it manu.
or am i crazy?
I personally use only flashtool. That does the whole job.

No Cigar. still lockes up at first SE logo if i manualy want to get in, and if i use any software method from within android to reboot in to recovery it simply reboots back to android. Tried (flashing, rooting, cwm) with and without SD. This Sucks, what good is an Android device without CWM.
there has to be some way to get it to fff work.
Ok, so it goes like this.. Flash a new firmware, flash a stock kernel with CWM ( DooMKernel) through flashtool of course and the kernel through fastboot.. U done that?
Sent from my LT18i using XDA App
I've had a similar experience today with a Arc S LT18i. Was on .42 (rooted and some system bloatware
removed). I tried an OTA upgrade last night, but this failed, presumably because I'd deleted some system apps. I then (without reading forums first - big mistake) upgraded with PC companion to .62 and THEN read that I couldn't root it again. After much reading of forums I found a version of LT15i .42 and flashed that - and rooted it again.
Then the problems started, I tried an OTA upgrade, and it failed mid-upgrade, giving me a blue arrow pointing down onto a screen with a yellow triangle of doom with an exclamation mark.
Flashtool didn't want to know for ages, then (fortunately) it suddenly let me flash back to .42. I've rooted it again, and any apps that weren't there have been re-installed. From what I can tell the LT15i (Arc) seems absolutely fine, with no visible difference from LT18i at all.
The question is - should I just leave it as it is and avoid risking bricking it again, or do I really need to try and get an ARC S version of .42 onto it with Flashtool, so I can upgrade to ICS when the time comes. If so, does anyone have a good link to .42 for LT18i pls? Ideally not from uploaded.to as that site was driving me nuts.
Thanks, and good luck to the OP who had similar issues.

That's cool. But with a locked bootloader there is no fastboot
So what I do is flash LT18i 2.3.4 .42 using wotan client, root using zergrush. Now at this point phone can be updated to .62 , using the updater inside the phone AKA - OTA, that way I end up with LT18i .62 rooted, Locked bootloader. It is very important to keep in mind that this method for update will only work if ALL oryginal SYSTEM applications are on the phone.
I tried To Iinstall CWM on a locked bootloader using : NAn's app from market, extreme tweeker, both CMD methods, and manual method using root explorer.
By now I can do it all with my eyes closed hehe, but still can't get in to CWM.
unlock your bootloader then flash doom's kernel

Is it posible to flash firmware .ftf (with flashtools) that is already rooted and has CWM instaled, on a locked bootloader?
also is there any way to flash CWM backup on to the phone, if i cant get in to CWM (convert it to .ftf) ?
Can someone post a link to LT18i firmware that is rooted and has CWM instaled. For locked bootloader (.ftf) ?
OK. So i'm a "GENIUS" LOL
i got a reason to belive that simlinks got screwed.
I failed to manchen that affter i upgraded the firm to 62 with pc companion, i tried to ROOT again but when: DooMLoRD zergRush did not work i decided to give a try SuperOneClick, then FlashTools... Kurrrr.
eaven thugh they all use Mr. zerg's methode there is another choice psneuter, if i uderstand correctly the two methods differ a bit.
So simlinks dont get whiped, nor deleated when flashing, or restoring with seus.
or am i missing something eaven simpler like "reflash with SD inserted But no SIM, take out battery(or DON'T take out the baterry untill rebooting the Phone twice" or some think briliant as such.
like the one for relocking bootloader in The SE X8.
Can i deleate the simlinks and what ever i belive wrong, then UnRoot, whipe, reflash, root, CWM?
Would that fix it?
the phone is usless without CWM
Unlocking BL is not an option for me, i'm afraid
SOLVED
Ok. I managed to install CWM using flashtool. Entering CWM no problems, creating backup no problem, but after restoring from backup the phone was freezing every time.

Need assistance from those that COULD flash that ICS ftf on the ion

Okay so for those that could successfully flash that FTF of ICS for the ion ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28350482&postcount=19 ) I would like to see if the Xperia S rooting for locked bootloaders method works for you guys.
Here is what I need you to do.
Flash back to stock Gingerbread and start following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742992
(there is an updated rooting kit found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754429 that might work better)
But basically start at GB and run step1.bat, flash to ICS with the flashtool settings as shown in the guide, then continue following that guide but after Step 2 and for the rest of the guide please flash stock GB instead of ICS.
Basically I want to see if this process will work to get root on our stock GB roms with a locked bootloader. I have already tried it without using the ICS rom (cause I get the sin verification error) so we just need someone that can actually flash ICS to try it.
Please post your results......

You can always flash back to stock build with the FTF I posted or use SEUS to revert to stock. You can't get a nandroid backup yet. We have no recovery yet that supports it for the ions. This procedure is just to see if we can get root following that guide using the leaked ICS ftf.
i would love to help on this but i cant even get the ics downloads. i keep getting files that are no good. if i could get a link i would be happy to test and volunteer alot of time getting root on our ion
Wild guess, the ICS rom provided is for brown (test) devices only and will not flash on production devices.
But just for your info my ICS LT28h has been rooted at least a week now using the nozomi recovery image just fine, but since the provided recovery is for the LT26i the partitions are different and you must manually mount them in order to flash any zip file through the recovery.
The correct partitions are:
/dev/block/mmcblk0p15 /system
/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 /sdcard

It probably is for test devices, but i'm not for sure, not alot of people from what i see are into doing testing on it and the i was only able to get one of the two downloads to actually download, with the proper size of the file after unzipping it. Like stated, I am more than happy to test the software and see what can be done, i just need files that i can use to try and make that happen.
Willing Tester
I too will test all avenues...I'm currently downloading the FTF from a Chineese site (used Chrome to translate and went pretty well). May be a bad file like others have had, but won't know for an hour or so. Also, a link was posted in another thread to a U.S. point: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1814487&page=3. The only thing is that I need someone to PM me some exact instructions or link in this thread to exact instructions, because I'm only somewhat-versed in this.

Help - urgently need to root Z1 Compact - lost all my data on internal storage

Hello,
Can somebody help me quite urgently?
I had my Z1 Compact phone linked to my PC via USB and deleted a couple of folders on the drive called "storage" - both of which were empty.
Little did I know that this actually deleted all of the contents of both my SD card and my phone's internal storage
I desperately need some help here - I have rooted my previous phones (X10 and Xperia S) easily before, but this one I just can't seem to find anything! I need to root so that I can mount the device as Mass Storage and then run a recovery on the drive, I urgently need my files back!! (unless anybody knows of any other way I can do this?!)
Thank you so much to anybody who can help me with this phone disaster!!

Thanks for the fast reply. I think my bootloader is unlocked but I just can't see a simple way to root this - I am running the last version of Lollipop 5.1.1 released for this phone.

If BL is unlocked, rooting is as easy as flashing custom kernel and recovery via fastboot, then boot recovery and flash supersu. Download this boot IMG - https://mega.nz/#!k0cTUQbS!5XUZhTEK4xBKVBSeO83TEHE3xs9JEpvxt3g1Sc8tVH8 - then download twrp IMG, then download super su zip, then download custom kernel for z1c zip. Flash boot and recovery imgs, then boot to recovery and flash supersu zip, then flash z1c kernel zip.
Thanks for the replies.
The firmware version is 14.6.A.1.236.
I would like to root this but I am unsure about that KingRoot app as I have read that some people say it looks very untrustworthy. Is this true or does it work very well?
Ideally I'l like to find a UK version of the 14.6.A.1.236 as a pre-rooted FTF, but I've had no luck whatsoever. Does anyone know where there might be one?
Thanks so much.

Download ftf with xperifirm, then make a prf with prf creator. You do need recovery to flash prf, which requires root or unlocked BL to use...
