[Q] Needing voice dictation and voice search apk names for ICS CM9 - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know if this has been asked or not, but with CM9, I'm having trouble getting voice dictation installed. I know that it comes with the bamtau-gapps.zip and it works in there - but since those gapps differ from the ones that the CM9 devs provided they overwrite my gapps and cause my Google account to be lost in the process.
I was able to successfully install the voice search apk from the bamtau-gapps - which provides the ICS voice search as opposed to the one from the market (it basically is the same, just looks nicer). What I'm really looking for is voice dictation on the keyboard. I'm just wondering what apk's provide that so that I can pick and choose and build a zip that only overwrites certain apk's not all of them so I don't run into an issue with my Google account disappearing.
If anyone knows, I'd appreciate the help.
At this point in time I've tried adding:
VoiceSearch.apk
GoogleTTS.apk
to the gapps and was only successful with VoiceSearch, GoogleTTS did nothing (that I noticed).
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I guess the title of this thread should really be, "Needing voice dictation apk names" since I already have voice search figured out

According to the CM9 OP (or in the Blog or perhaps in that thread some place) voice dic is not a go at the moment (upstream issue?)....unless I don't understand what you're asking.

[Q] Endomondo Sports tracker

Hi, I´m not certain that my issue is limited to the Desire but here goes...
Am I the only one experiencing that when I Start up endomondo tracker that after about a second or two my desire opens android market and shows search results as if I had searched for speechsynthesis data?
Well it is difficult to answer, when i dont know the exact app, but the speechsynthesis data from the market is for use with the android tts(text to speech). Is it possible, that this app uses some kind of text to speech to give messages through the speaker?
It is probarbly because the app needs this data file, and it should be fine, if you just install it.
Hope it helps
Yes it does. I use this app. I already have installed the voice to text IME mod which is available in this site somewhere. The app gives you pep talks amd has an audio coach built into it.
Try and install the IME mod and see if that works, as I haven't come across this problem.

(Here you go this is the thread for voice mod)
I have been using the app now for a long time and have text to speech installed, try downloading and installing tts from the market place and then re-launching endomondo

Google Now Doesn't Speak

Please forgive me, I have searched but 'Google Now' isn't a great search term...
Basically, I get no voice feedback when using voice search or the Google Now app on my 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update. Initially I was underwhelmed by Google Now and wondered what the fuss was, until I discovered it should be talking back to me in a Siri-like fashion.
I had the leaked 4.1 I/O release previously and same issue. Language is English and I have voice prompts turned on in the search settings.
Any ideas? It's a Google stock ROM and it never worked, so I really don't know what it could be.
Edit: Nevermind, same discussion here. Too bad there's no time-limited delete functionality here, feel free to delete.
Try this
There is my solution:
- Set your locale to whatever you want
- Set the Google Now Voice Language to English US
- Voice Output to Always
- Remove the tick(untick the box) on Hide Offensive Words
I spent hours of tinkering with this and tried all kinds of options, but in the end that solved it for me. This is because recently there was an update to Google Search, which is the application designation for Google Now and it introduced this bug.
I have my locale to my native one English UK en-GB and everything works like a charm as it should be and as it used to work before the update.

Make sure that you have downloaded the offline speech recognition in English US and maybe try asking something like "What's the time?". It will not talk back to all questions. Only the ones that were specifically pre-programmed. If it still doesn't work, try putting your system locale to English US and restarting your phone. And most importantly update your Talkback, Google Search and Google Voice search apps to their latest through the Play Store.
What I did now officially works on my O2 HTC One S and 3UK HTC One X, so it works for sure on those two.
I hope this helps

[APP] Older (and much faster) quick search app

I am currently running WanamLite v5.3 (XXELLA based) and really dislike the fat Google Search app, preferring the one from former XXALF5 ROM instead (attached).
The older one got the following advantages:
Much faster to load
We are talking about quite a number of seconds here. This is especially important when launching via the long press on the menu button.
Better interface
Web search may be disabled if unwanted, one can select what specific local items to search for in each search.
Web search can be replaced with external apps.
Those external apps often do a better job, letting you search wikipedia, imdb etc. Searchify is a perfect example of such an app.
This is how to install the older app:
Push the QuickSearchBox.apk to your /system/app
Set the proper permissions
Find a way to disable Google Search (i've frozen it with Titanium Backup)
Now, can someone tell me what apk files the Google Search that comes with the WanamLite v5.3 is stored in, so i could remove those from a CWM script or something? Also, is there any way to replace the search button (menu long-press) handler without removing Google Search?
EDIT: found it, original JB Google search app is stored in "Velvet.apk".
EDIT2: seems like GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk (included in the ROM, but not activated when Google Search is there), is very similar, and fast to load.

Ubersonic RC3... Goole Voice not working...

Google voice crashes when it starts to sync messages and texts, which is about 3 seconds after opening it.
Is there a fix?
I want to use my old Evo4g as a media device, but would also like to use it for Google voice so I can maintain a spare phone line
Thanks in advance.

Make sure you use an ICS version of Google voice and not an older one. I'm order to sync with gvoice on ICS with a ROM that wont have a registered number you would had have to have already synced with a number before in the past. It wont verify it with just your Google account like it can on a GB version.

I had an issue like that on my jelly bean media ROM. I had to remove it from /system/app and install from playstore/sideload. Try that and let me know if it works for you.

So I deleted Google voice and re-downloaded it from the play store. I can make and receive calls using groove IP lite... but when I receive a text and try to open it, voice crashes.

Let me look into a few things, see what I find, I'll let you know.

I upgraded from an ics rom to a jb rom. I didn't have a problem with Google Voice not working though. I just downloaded the app from the playstore and logged into my account. I'd say make sure you have the right gapps flashed for your rom and check the voice settings on your computer or something to make sure your phone that you are using is showing up there.
For me Voice is pretty buggy and slow; I don't particularly like it. So there are probably other/better alternatives out there if this doesn't work for you

Yes there is a simple fix for this download zip flile wwwmediafirecom/download/utzkqffj8bbk0cm/Add_communications_to_Uberdriod_rc3_and_add_gvoice_and_make_it_work.zip
unzip to sd card and install all apks inside "luckypatcher and romtoolbox lite" is optional i used them to install them as system apps but u dont have to.
chromebookmarks has to be installed and the mms and phone and contacts and contact storage and talk and telerphony apks must be installed for gvoice to work then u can use romtoolbox to convert them to system app if u wish so they dont talk up space on sd or exsd.
if gvoice still fc after these steps go to setting then apps then go to google voice then clear cache and data then restart app but still one problem not a big one but all ur contacts must be backed up to sd card easy enoght to do that use current andriod device go to contact app menu select import/export and choose export to sd and then transfer the .vcf file to ur evo and then go to the contact app i just provided u in this post for ur evo and click menu import/export and choose import this time and ur good to go should automaticly find ur vcard '.vcf' file on sd.
this should work for u if u have any questions feel free to ask...
and to the responce to others who answered this question b4 me this issue has nothing to do with witch version of gvoice is installed there no way to download wrong version from google play u can only download the version for ur os witch in this case is andriod 4.0.4 ubersonic rom
and u have to register a number with gvoice apon signup so that absolutely makes no sense.
this issue is caused by the fact all communication apps were removed so when gvoice go to sync up messages and voicemails it also looks for new messages in stock mms apk and stock phone apk and voicemaill apk and uses telephony apk also so when it goes to sync u will get a force close if all apps i provided are not installed. Your Welcome
{NOTE} mms apk will still force close there is no way around this no cell signal and sprint service files are not present is the cause
Ubersonic RC3 Google Voice fix
Here's how I got Google Voice working on this rom:
1.) Download Ubersonic Rom and copy zip to desktop.
2.) Download Ace ICS v2 rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777815 and put on desktop
3.) Download 4.0.4 Gapps package 20120429 from http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps# and put on desktop
4.) Using Winrar (associated with .zip files) open all three zips and place so you can access each one.
5.) Select the following apk's from the Ace Rom App folder and drag into the Ubersonic Rom App folder:
Contacts.apk
ContactsProvider.apk
MMS.apk
TelephonyProvider.apk
VoiceDialer.apk
VPNDialog.apk
6.) Select the following apk's from the Gapps App folder and drag into the Ubersonic Rom App folder:
ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
GoogleTTS.apk
Talk.apk
7.) Copy the Ubersonic Rom to your SD card and flash as usual. If all goes as it did for me, Google voice should run without crashing. Now all you have to do is install your preferred app to make and receive free Wifi calls and texts. (GrooVe IP, TalkaTone etc.)
I really love the concept of this rom. It resurrected my retired HTC EVO 4G and gave it a second life. I did add a few apps from the PlayStore to it to make it a little better (in my opinion) which I'll list for you in case any of you are interested.
Holo JB HD launcher
Union Apex/Nova Theme
APW
Holo APW Theme
Groove IP
Antek Quick Settings

Poweramp
MX Player
Simple MP3
Tubemate
All-In-One Toolbox
My son added DeadTrigger 2 (game) and I added HBOGo and MaxGo which worked flawlessly. I also tried to get the BHTV app working but got an error message when loading any channel. Apparently, the BHTV app has a problem working on CM9 based roms which I believe this rom is. Still, all in all, what was once a phone collecting dust in my drawer has become a feature rich media device that my son now uses for fun and to make free calls and texts over wifi with. Sweeeeet!! Well, hope I helped you guys out. PM me if I can help you with anything related to what I've said here. Peace!!

Google Apps and Stock OP3

Hello, I know it might sounds stupid but : Can you install for instance Gmail, Google phone, Google contacts and of course have no bugs, because Google phone app need some kinds of drivers don't it ? To filter calls etc..
Thank you for the answer of this stupid question,
Cheers.
gmail and google contacts are already installed. google dialer you cannot install as it is exclusive to nexus devices although the stock dialer is pretty similar minus the spam features on google dialer.
