[Q] how to save to external sd - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

is there a way to change where the pictures and app data are stored on my external sd instead of the internal sd cause being a rom flasher i dont want to back up my photo every time its just a pain

well not sure about apps. but if you go into your camera settings you can select sd instead of phone. btw switching roms shouldn't delete pics. I know mine doesnt delete it.

ok cool thanks ill try that.
it does when u have to wipe all data

huh really? you mean wipe all like wiping your internal? ill definately have to check that out. I thought everything in your internal sd card was still intact when you use calkulins format all or when you do it manually like wipe cache dalvik and wiping your data/factory reset. just did it and my pics sitting on my internal sd were untouched. weird its happening to you tho.

APS2SD Question

Since no one will answer this on the thread for the ROM;
This is the 1st time I ever did a partition and uses APS2SD, so when a new vewrsion of the ROM, or any ROM with APS2SD built in comes out, what do I NOT wipe with Amon Ra Wipe?
Do I still do a Wipe ALL DATA/Factory Reset like I alwasy?? Or do I wipe everything individually but not SD CARD? OR NOT SD EXT???
Do I need to copy my SD card to my computer, and then reformat and repartition????
One person please answer this question I've asked 14 times......
When you want to flash a new ROM, wipe as usual (data/factory, cache, dalvik cache) but also do "sdext". This will ensure that any apps stored in your partition are also cleared out for a fresh and clean install of your new ROM
And about wiping 'sdcard"... this would resultin losing pics, backups, etc.
Tower, this is SkyRaider requesting a fly-by...
I guess it's weird then that when I wipe all, it doesn't wipe the SD Card, unless it skips that on purpose, which would make sense....
Thanks!
Good to know

When you select wipe all (in among 2.3) it shouldn't wipe your SD card, but it does include SD ext I believe. If there was no ext3 partition then it would skip that part. I have 2 cards, one is the 8gb card that is not partitioned, and the other is 16gb with ext3 partition. With the card that isn't partitioned, when I select wipe all it will say "skipping g" on the sd ext wipe. With my card that is partitioned, it does not skip that part and it wipes normally.

THanks, K2...
My fear was that with the EXT Partition, it might wipe the whole card.
I know that sounds a little ridiculous, but ya never know

No problem man. Just be aware, there is an option in amon that WILL wipe out your entire card. the 'wipe sdcard' will wipe it all, gone forever. Just be sure to choose the SDEXT option to format just the partition.
See, that's what had me confused, because when you click wipe all, it looks like all those sub "categories" (Cache, Dalvik, EXT3, etc) get wiped in the process, but apparently, that's not the case

The ones you list do indeed get wiped. It wipes EXT3 but not the FAT32 partition where your "normal" data lies. That's definitely how it should be. In fact, I don't even like having that Wipe SDCARD option there. It scares me. Good thing I don't do much wiping while drunk.

Agreed... just seeing it there freaks me out

Quick question on wiping data & "SD"

Will wiping the phone in CWM delete files on the "SD" space of the phone? I've read it is all apart of the same partition, so I wanted to make sure before awkwardly deleting the ROM I am about to install..
I have wiped tons of times in CWR and it hasn't touched the /sd yet. All my files are safe and sound.

Yes, it clears *all* internal storage.
So...which is it?
Maybe I misunderstood but are you talking about wiping /data and /cache? Because when I do this it does NOT wipe the /sd but does wipe all other user data, just like on every other android phone I have had.

Wipe data/factory reset on CWM wipes your WHOLE phone, including "SD" card. I advise you to use the Super Wipe Lite script from the Android Revolution ROM, get it here. This will do a complete wipe, except SD card.
A bit of more info, in case you're interested: the SD card is the folder /data/media mounted as /sdcard. When you wipe in CWM, the data folder is emptied as well.
EDIT: i havent actually tried to do a normal full wipe from CWM, im stating the above just from reading other reports here. Maybe the last version from CWM has fixed this, i dont know
EDIT2: You can wipe cache and dalvik as usual from CWM without any problems.

I figured that was how it was setup, but didn't know if CWM had any logic built into it to filter out the folder. I'll take a look at the script, thanks.
The built-in factory reset in Android will also wipe everything.
I did data, cache, dalvik wipe and formatted system going from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3.
I did NOT lose my SD card
The default wipe in ICS clears *all* internal memory. The default Factory Reset feature of CWM does the exact same thing. I've done it twice and it wiped fully both times.
Very interesting direct contradictions going on in here..
Wiping data in CWM DOES NOT WIPE THE VIRTUAL SDCARD. People need to stop saying it does.. it is all one partition but the virtual SD card is not wiped when you wipe data in cwm.. Factory resets in settings will wipe your virtual SD card but cwm WILL NOT.
Edit: sorry I had a long night, but I will leave the caps so people actually read it.

It is quite troubling to read how many people are saying that wiping in CWM will erase the SD card.
It 100% DOES NOT. I have wiped in CWM dozens of times already. I can not say the same for Factory Reset in Android...but in CWM wiping data DOES NOT wipe your SD.

Starting from Scratch

Hi guys,
After my phone being through GB, ICS, and JB, stability hasn't been something I haven't worried about. I want my entire phone - secure, internal, EMMC, SD - everything to start from square one.
What's the best way to start fresh before loading the next ROM? I already have SuperWipe, but it doesn't seem like enough. I'm on TWRP 2.3
Thanks

Hmm.. I think it would be best to boot into recovery, go to the wipe menu and do Factory reset, System, internal, external, cache, dalvik then go to Mount USB storage, copy your ROM over to SD and flash it fresh like new.
I might be missing something but I think that covers pretty much everything, right?

As a correction, mount your storage, copy your SD card (pics, vids, etc) then wipe internal and external storage. Otherwqise everything else is correct.

Question about wiping in CWM

So after having this phone for a week I'm ready to flash a couple ROMs. Im still getting used to it though as everything is way different than the EVO 4G.
I noticed the sdcard0 is internal and extSDcard is external. Before I go wiping, will a data wipe or factory reset in CWM delete the contents of either of these locations? I guess I'm not used to the idea of internal storage being handled as an sdcard and just wanna make sure Im doing this right and safely.

nope, it just clears the user data, applications and their data. It doesn't clear the sd cards
Thank you

phone memory still almost full after wipe

I recently switched roms from Carbon to CM11 trying to find a rom where the bluetooth works. I did the factory reset and wiped everything but even before putting apps back on phone I only had about 2gb of space left. I thought factory reset would format and clean out the phone.
i believe you have to select option 'format sd card' to clean it out. make sure you have a backup of important stuff, i.e. pics, music, etc. or else move to external sdcard. make sure you have a ROM to flash afterwards also.!
err on the side of kindness
Even when I dona full clean install with a wipe of everything, my back up folders remain with a lot of space used in them, especially if you have a large titanium back up folder

Format sd option I assumed was for the external sd card. I can try re-flashing the rom doing that. As long as it doesn't wipe the external I'm good!
Is there a fix for bluetooth on 4.4.4?
think is option to format either. i dont use bluetooth but you could check your ROMs thread to see if others are having it and if theres a fix.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the cm thread. I know nobody seems to respond in the carbon thread when I asked about it. I really like the carbon better than the cm11. I work outside and live with the bluetooth headset all day long. It socks that I cannot seem to get it working.
When you wipe data its formating the /data partition if you want to wipe internal you have to choose to wipe internal SD card

Got it, on my next flash it is!
Just to clarify because some of the posts seem a little confusing. ..
If you factory reset from custom recovery it will preserve the internal sdcard. To wipe that you have to choose the format /data option. Wiping sd card I believe is for the external sd only. Ive never used that option though so I suppose I could be a bit off on that point.
Factory resetting from stock recovery formats the entire /data partition. There is no way to preserve the internal sdcard in this case.
