As the title says - But how the hell do you get rid of it so that when you do the volume down & power button you get the default boot loader screen?
How did u get into Odin? To get to the boot loader, pull the battery, reinsert it and hold down the volume down button and press the power button till it turns on. This should take u straight to the boot loader so u can enter cwm from there

I did as you say but I end up in Odin, I didn't have out until I installed Manhattan ROM.
Not dissing his ROM, just want to get rid of Odin so I can send galaxy for repair
Odin is built in. U can't just get rid of it. Keep over at rootzwiki for the one stop root/unroot utility

Hold volume down and up plus power to get to the boot loader.

power + volume down + volume up = bootloader
power + volume down = odin
recovery mode
not only do you need to hold volume up+ volume down+ power, but I find that once the phone vibrates (after about 10 secs), you have to let off power but not the volume buttons.

greetings
just go to rootzwiki and do some more reading. you're just giving that forum bad rep coming in here, failing to understand what the op wanted (that can happen to anyone), giving bad advice, and in end you just had to advertise something, outside of xda, which does have in Galaxy Nexus Development the tools you mentioned. rootzwiki doesn't need this kind of attention. it's a pretty cool community, it stands its ground.
like some said, odin is volume down+power; bootloader/fastboot mode is volume down+volume up+power; recovery is volume up+power.

I have a rooted phone with stock ROM (havent flashed any customs yet) with Super User and Clockwork Mod Recovery.
I can get into Recovery Mode by using the option in ROM Manager but I want to be able to get into it from a powered off state using the Volume Up + Power button as would be required if my OS was trashed and I couldnt get into ROM Manager.
I can get into ODIN mode using Volume Down + Power button so not sure whats up here. Is there a knack to it any different than going into ODIN mode?
Press on the middle of the volume rocker until both sides are depressed.
Thanks!! I have managed it in the past but thought I had pressed Volume Up! Wonder why its volume up and down together, when volume up on its own doesnt seem to be mapped to anything. Nevermind! Thanks again!
lol glad you got there
Doesn't Vol Up + Vol Down + Power get into fastboot?
Is there no way to get directly into recovery?
I dont think so. Recovery is only a couple of presses away once you're in fast boot mode anyway.

Hi All
After successfully rooting I though I would go the next stage and install CWM , in my haste I must of done something wrong and after resetting the phone it wont turn on. I have tried a factory reset, wont turn on, tried pulling battery etc no luck. When I plug it into the computer I get a searching for QHSUSB_DOWN driver which never succeeds and running the LG update utility just says phone not connected...ANY help would be sincerely appreciated...!!!
Can you get into download mode by pulling the battery out, then put it back, press and hold volume up button and press power button.
If download mode works, then follow the unbricking solution.
Thanks for the quick response and nope no luck!

You can't get into download mode like that (just tried it to verify). You have to power off the device, hold volume up then plug in usb to get into download mode.
either way have had no luck, seems it is going back to warranty....

Strange thing I don't even need hold the power button, just hold vol up after battery is in and press once power button...go figure, this is one f.up phone...
Hi all,
I've been having a few issues with my S2 (Randomly resetting, freezing, etc) - so I decided to do a factory reset - but it hasn't worked.
When I turn my phone on, it wont go past the galaxy logo. I've tried holding down VOLUME UP, POWER, and HOME - but it doesn't boot it into recovery mode.
Any ideas?
Fyi, this is the S3 tmobile forum, not S2.
To get recovery hold vol up, home and power, but release after you see blue text flash at top of screen.
For download mode (for flashing full fw with odin) hold vol down, home and power. Then press up once prompted.
Safe mode hold vol down and power.
If factory reset in stock recovery doesn't do it. You probably need to flash the fw with odin.

Ops - My bad.
Factory reset doesn't work. Will have ago with Odin. Never used it before - Have you got a guide?
Cheers
You can probably use this for the steps. But do NOT use any files you find in this area.
Youd probably be better off trying to find a similar guide in the S2 forum. Just to protect against a simple mistake which could brick your s2.
Good luck man!

After I finished flashing cm 10.1 rc and rebooting it, my phone got/gets stuck on the google image and it won't boot up. I've been trying to go into recovery mode by taking out the battery (and putting it back in) and holding the down and up volume buttons and power but every time I do it I get stuck in ODIN mode where it says "Downloading Do not turn off target". Am I boned? Thanks for the help in advance.
Volume up+volume down+power will take you to the bootloader/fastboot interface, from there using the volume keys you can boot your custom recovery.
Wipe data this time.

You know what mode displays the message "Downloading Do Not Turn Off Target" don't you?
So tell him, how to get in fastboot mode, instead of quoting me.
