[Q] CWM install - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i have a question.
I would like install a ICS on my desire z, but how can i install a cwm without unlocking my device by htcdev.com?

best way to get s-off and root is the wiki guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
part of it is how to install cwm recovery

This is the best that I have seen. IF you follow the directions you will have this done without hassle. I am so much a noob and I was able to root and s-off my g2 in less than two hours. I did my wifes phone in about an hour.

Thanks i will try it.
Homever can i install just cwm for flash any ics' rom or i must root my pda too?

why would you want amon ra when you do not want root? you need to do the whole root process to use amon ra, even if you later intent to unroot your phone.

you cant flash a custom recovery without rooting, and like the other guy said, a custom recovery would be pointless anyway if you didnt have root access lol
well, I don't want to unlock it coz maybe some feature lost and I'm really not comfotable for rooting...what's in ur mind about my problem guy ??!!!!!

You don't have to unlock the phone to install a custom ROM (assuming you mean SIM lock), but when we talk about rooting here, we really mean two things:
1. The ability to run a custom recovery.
2. The ability to gain superuser access (su to root) in an installed ROM.
Since you want to install a custom recovery, you have to root in order to do so. However, you could still install a stock ROM which didn't have su access (though it would be largely pointless to do so).
As has been previously asked, why do you want to install Amon Ra?

Uninstall your old rom manager because it doesnt support g2, download the new one, flash clockwork mod-select g2 as your device- wait for it to download and flash he recovery. Btw i would suggest you click fix permissions first before doing any of that

1. Is the procedure with ROM Manager safe?
2.Do i need to do something else after geting perma root and s-off to install clockwork mod ? (still don't know what for is Engineering HBoot)
3. After instaling clockwork mod or after rooting I will stop geting official updates ?
4. Do i have to buy a prem version of ROM Manager or free market version will do the job ?

Lots of q's
Ok
1.Clockwork mod is very safe
2.No. If you have Perma-rooted your phone you are good to go
3.After installing it you can receive OTA updates if you are using STOCK rom
but its best to not update via OTA at risk of losing root. I was already had
temp root when we got the OTA in US and I had no problem but be warned
4.The free version is fine. But its always good to buy the paid version for added benefits and to help dev out

Sometimes it takes a couple of times before recovery sticks, so if you get the red triangle just reflash the recovery again untill it sticks.

Eng. Hboot is not required to flash a custom rom, but obviously perm-root is. Im guessing you got that quote "Perm Root with hboot-eng.....is needed to flash a custom ROM (still REQUIRED for the moment)" from the CM7 Nightly thread, but there is a way to flash CWM3 without an ENG. Hboot ( it requires terminal emulator) and also the CM7 nightly rom.
Any idea how to install CM7 from stock less risky way then hboot ? How about flashing CM 6 and upgrading to 7 ?

If the HBOOT required comment was for just CWM3, then there are guides already out there (including one stickied in this forum):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=900460
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902493
Then just use CWM3 to flash CM7 like normal...
Absolutly right. Thx for links. Am a noob.

I just mean she only wants root. she does not want a custom rom.
And who told you that if u wanna root u have to install a custom Rom?? Not necessary just follow a tutorial to root and that's all the Rom will stay the same
Also when you finish rooting don't forget to do a nandroid backup(v.i) because it will help if anything goes wrong or she wants to flash a custom Rom in the future

That thread has nothing to do with how to root the Incredible.
Not sure if unrevoked has fixed their rooting method or not as the last GB update last year broke it, it was on version 3.21 back then. As I have s-off I can flash recoveries in hboot which is an easy way to get a custom recovery in place which you then use to flash the superuser binaries to your system/bin folder. I had originally used unrevoked 3.21 to root it two years ago and set s-off so maybe someone who has recently used this will let you know if it still works.
http://unrevoked.com/
Easiest way to root is to htcdev unlock your bootloader, then fastboot flash the cwm recovery img, and then flash superuser through recovery. Thats it, your rooted.
You can use this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600904, or this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258. Both achieve the same thing in the same way, just wrote up a little differently.

all you need to do is goto htc's dev site for unlocking http://www.htcdev.com/
no other steps are necessary if all you want is an unlocked device to allow apps root access... i think this is what you are asking

Wrong ! Unlocking the bootloader will not give you root acces .... Like guich said, unlock , flash a custom recovery , and push the superuser.zip to gain root acces .
This is the second post this morning i read from you where you give incorrect/strange advice ! Please stop that and search for the right answer first yourself
Thank you !

Best way to root, unlock BL and install custom recovery

I have Xperia z1 compact running stock non-rooted 14.6.A.1.236 rom. My bootloader is locked. I want to be able to install custom roms. What's the best way to root, unlock bl and install custom recovery? I've been searching forum for past few days but most of the download links redirect to d-h.st. and that breaks the chain of needed files.
Also i never used flashtool and i don't know should i use Sony flashtool or "original" one

I don't think so. Just need adb...
I guess I don't have to open a new thread for this: I've been reading a lot about this recently and trying to get my thoughts straight about this:
I found PhilZ Dual Recovery (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647480) which works with locked bootloader. Some people wrote there they installed the recovery on 5.0.2, so it seems I have to downgrade first (I'm on 5.1.1), even though it doesn't say that in the manual..? - if you can't answer that I'll ask that later then in the linked thread.
Next thing: I rooted with Kingroot, but want to switch to SuperSU - cant switch because theres a problem with the binary, so I have to flash it anyway through custom recovery.
Can I now root with Kingroot, install PhilZ Dualrecovery and when it boots into Recovery Mode, can I just flash the SuperSu.zip?
OR would I need to boot normally first after custom recovery install, then uninstall Kingroot, to unroot, and THEN flash SuperSU in Recovery?
Ive been using root for years but never really got into flashing before so I'm quite new to that and appreciate your help. Thanks a bunch.

You don't have to downgrade to flash NUT. It's been a while since I did it, but I'm pretty sure that flashing supersu won't totally remove Kingroot. Best thing to do once you're rooted, if you don't want to unlock bl, is probably to install recovery, then in recovery flash a prf, which will wipe your system and install new system with supersu instead of Kingroot.

I don't trust any universal rooting apps. Only way to legit root your phone is to downgrade to kitkat and then root using exploit, then flash prerooted lollipop (that is if you wan't to stay on stock rooted rom). If you don't plan on staying on stock room and only want quick root you have to use kingroot since that's only universal root that can root z1c. When it comes to recovery there you have two choices. To use xzdualrecovery or to unlock bootloader (you will loose drm keys which means you will lose stuff like x-reality) and flash normal recovery. I would go for dual recovery because if you ever wan't to get back to stock you can since stock recovery isn't getting overwritten with xzdr. But if you choose to unlock bootloader first backup TA (you have to be rooted) and then unlock.
Hope this helps

I would go with unlock bl method. You can restore TA after rooting so you done lose drm, and it's easy to root with unlocked bl - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72547776&postcount=6
