How many apps do you have installed on your wp today ?
(Note, this is not a poll to see how many you have had at one point, or how you don't need apps because of x, or need more apps because of y. )
Also, what are the top 5 apps you have installed the os did not provide enough functionality for ?
(This is also only a top 5 list, not how/why/when.)
Hopefully the requests for specifics will xut down on chatter and only provide the data for others to see. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REVIEW YOUR FAVORITE APPS, OR EXPLAIN WHAT THE APPS ARE USED FOR. ANYONE WITH GOOGLE IN FRONT OF THEM CAN FIGURE THIS OUT FOR THEMSELVES.
Thank you for your data.

I don't get this bit. You mean as in buying a GPS app because you're not pleased by native Turn by Turn?

Is there a list of working/non-working apps in WM6.1? If not, shall we start one? One of my must-have's apparently doesn't work. If anyone wants to add to the list, I can keep this first post updated.

I thought it might be more useful to be able to check whether the thing you need works or not; I could not get by without flexmail, so no way I can upgrade yet. Is it mostly apps which access the PIM data?
Which ROM are you using?
Maybe some apps don't work with some cooked ROMs.

I'm not using one unless I hear Flexmail works with it, that's why I started this thread, it might help others.

I think that's a great idea. I haven't made the move yet, but as soon as the roms are more stable, I will give em a try, and like you, I have certain must have applications.
More apps that wont work
spbBackup, Sprite backup do not seem to work either. Tech guy from Sprite said they are working on a version for 6.1, but since it isn't officially" out yet there's not much they can do.
(lets see if this becomes a sticky )
Hello all. I just received my brand spanken new Touch Pro 2 and im currently playing with it to figure it out. Now most of you vet WinMo users know generaly what you want/need to do with your phone as soon as you get it. You know the tweaks that need to be done to make it faster, and what Aps work better than the defaults. While i know that knowledge is spread all around the forum, i though it would be nice if we collect that knowledge and pool it into one thread so that new owners can go right to it, and pick out everything they want with out hunting..
To that end, now that i am a new owner, i would like to know what I should do to it first and foremost. Ive heard their is a way to tweak the camera to make it preform better (for instance), and i know theirs a way to turn off, or make a quicker way to switch on and off 3g. This is manly the kind of stuff im looking for..
Also. Ive seen a recommendation on how to charge the battery for the first time. Pretty much Anything you guys can think of that new owners should/or need to do to get their Touch Pro 2 working in Top order. I would like to know this (so i dont end up running a slower version cause i missed something..
So how bout it? (i will edit this post as suggestions/links are posted)

That is a *little* more than i want to be throwing at first time WinMo users. IVe been using smart phone edition for a while so i can atleast find my way around, but given this is a new phone, and my first time using a full Winmo, i dont feel quite comfortable (yet) playing around in the registry. What im looking to collect here is "Out of the box" type of adjustments that most here would say should be made.
That other thread is good for later, but i just want to get the "ok you have your phone, now set it how it should be" mode.

excellent! which one of the 645,000 links would you suggest i use for s2u2?
Personally, I'd start with the first one, or maybe the second one since that one is on XDA- Dev. But if you use google in a different way than me and start at the back, that' s your choice.

A) Your question really doesn't make sense.
B) This is the HTC Hero forums, not the HTC Sapphire (Magic) forums.

well first of all, you posted in the hero section.
about your questions, hacking is too much of a big word. better say rooting.
depends on the applications you want to install. majority of them you wont need to root your phone for them to run. there is an option to enable 3rd party applications in the menu itself. however, some applications do require rooting of the phone, for example wifi teetering, bluetooth sharing...
oh sorry i made mistake :\ but i think it would be the same.
i'll try formulate. I wish to download a pack of apps from the internet. I do not know if they are signed or not (not even know if android has that protection as windows mobile has ) . My question was if i can install those apps on the android oficial OS from HTC.
I Hope it was better formulated the question. Thanks again!
For example. i'm downloading this collection of apps: h**p://isohunt.com/torrent_details/148986681/android?tab=summary
Will i need to root or it isnt necessary? What kind of apps need rooting? Or this kind i do not have to worry about.
Thanks =)

from the list you quoted, you dont have to root your phone for the vast majority of them. rooting is required to access proteccted files of the system from your phone
alright excelent. Thank you for your kind help =) I was becoming interested on the iphone but after i saw android, kind of blocked my eyes. the system is great hehe. Thank you again =)
But downloading pirated apps is a good way to get your phone blacklisted & banned from the Android Market.

oh how is this detectable so far? why are they banning people from it? wont they loose money that way? If i dont root my phone, most apps i have on this list will work, in that way i wont get blacklisted? Thanks
All of the applications below appear to obtain access and information way beyond the needs of a Flashlight. Some appear specifically designed to collect and expose your personal information to cybercriminals or other nation states. In addition, you are at significant risk if you are doing Mobile Banking on the same device as one of these free Flashlight Apps.
Our strong recommendation is to uninstall your flashlight app immediately.

Ok, so we all know that we need to be extra careful with the apps we use and the permissions they demand, at least, if you are here on XDA, I certainly hope you know this! And for many of you it is probably 2nd nature to steer clear of many apps that require too many irrelevant permissions. However, it was just brought to my attention that yesterday SnoopWall released a Threat Assesment Report regarding the top 10 Flashlight/Torch apps in the Play Store, and every one of them can potentially be used maliciously! So I thought I would share this with everyone, first, so that you are aware of it, and second, so you can make others aware! Maybe if we show those stubbornly ignorant people we all know, they will start trying to be a little more careful, and start paying a little more attention to what they are doing!
One important thing to note, as I dont remember seeing it mentioned specifically in the report, is that during their investigation they found a lot of personal information being sent by these flashlight apps to Russia, China and India! Need I say more???
Personally, I have always stayed away from these flashlight apps for several reasons that are mentioned by the report. For example, why would any app that only functions as a flashlight need to be several megabytes in size??? Huge red flag if you ask me!
Anyway, as many of you know here, I do not have a lot of time right now, so I will just post the links you need to educate yourself below. I will try to post more information later on as time allows, but I just wanted to get this out there for anyone who needs to know about it.

Easy fix with App Ops..
But the Torch app native to Carbon works just fine..
App Ops is your friend where evil programs ask for unnecessary permissions..

I am thinking of getting this phone. Can anyone tell if the device works OK with k9-mail? I read that many mediatek devices stop external apps...
can anyone confirm if whatsapp notifications works OK?
https://dontkillmyapp.com/
Hey brother, I have the phone and have been using it for some months now. It does limit the background apps, but contrary to Xiaomi and other chinese brands, it's really easy to stop the phone from doing so. There's a configuration on the device's settings called Performance Optimization that you can use to limit or unlimit app background activity. You also have the option to completely deactivate the feature and let the apps run on the background at will. Here are some screenshots that I took to better show what I'm talking about (the apps are censored for security/privacy reasons)
