[APP] Camera JB+ 1.1.1 - 720p camcorder

Hi all, my name is Ignacio and I'm an indie mobile developer.
My last app, "Camera JB+" has now full Nexus 7 support and also exclusive features for this device (new live fx effects on video recording: pencil, lomo & documentary).
Unfortunately only paid version (1.99$) is available, but I hope to release a free/limited version soon. Anyway, If you want to try it and after testing you are not happy with it I will refund the money (no 15 minutes limit).

Your app looks interesting. Seeing as you've developed a camera app, maybe you would be able to shed some light on the low fps in low light settings with the nexus 7. Maybe this is too low level OS wise and you wouldn't be able to answer but I'm just curious. I'm wondering if it's a software issue that caps the fps (maybe increasing the exposure to take in more light) in low light settings. I've seen videos of the nexus 7 in bright light settings and even though others knock the camera, I am competely happy with it in good lighting, but when the fps drop to single digits, it's pretty bad.

I bought the app and I like it. Something I miss is a macro mode. Is it possible to have it? Without it didn´t make much sence for me. I make 90% near pictures with the Galaxy S 2! Thx
Edit: I search the thread by google. Now I see it is in the nexus 7 section. Why? I also can buy it (GS 2). So maybe it will be better in the global android app section?

Hi,
I have just updated the app (version 1.1.1) to support 720p video recording without need to be root or change any profile.
About the excessive permissions required, I think you are right. The app is based on Android 4.1 open source code camera app by Google and I used the same permissions. I will check on next release all the permissions and remove all not needed. Sorry for this.
On the problem about low fps in low light conditions I think it's a hardware problem but I have to check if it could be improved modifying some parameters on software camcorder.

Ok, I'll keep an eye on this. I was really hoping it's not a hardware issue. If so, could it have been intentional to allow more light in per frame? It's really a shame if this is a hardware issue.

Good idea and good job. I'm on cm10.1 and it works. But the video don't appear in the stock gallery... I can only fine it using file explorer.. Any ideas

I suggest to record the videos in the DCIM directory though, in the same place as the regular video directory. It would be less messy and handy for the auto-upload through Dropbox. Actually, the best would be to have an select option.

Best choice would be to choose were videos were saved ... could be useful videos dont appear in Gallery also !
And also have an option to remove start/stop beep

Need root : Go to System/media/audio/ui/
Simply rename Cam_Start.ogg and Cam_Stop.ogg to Cam_Start.ogg.back and Cam_Stop.ogg.back
Or remove them directly
Test .... yeahh silent mode for ever ! :highfive:

I did this and everything appears to b working so far. Fhd 60fps is now 60Mbits. I still need to test the rest. On a side note I did not clear cache

A little Density mod... my first modded APK!
I used the APK from this thread, and edit quick and dirty the XML files. Layout not perfect, but more fullscreen than the standart version.
So use the Manuel in the Startthread and have fun with it =)

no warrenty from my side. i use it, on G925F with last update and it works.
The default density in build.prop ist 640! you can use dies APK only with density 480!

By the way, i want to come back and restore the default configurations....i've placed again the backup files and also the files in arm64 folder...all permission are OK anda i've done the wipe cache....but it still working with the MOD....can you please tell me how to go back?

This worked for me:
1. Replace your backufiles (arm64 files, SamsungCamera4.apk, and the .xlm), set the right permission as listet in the first post.
2. navigate to "/data/dalvic-cache/arm64", search and delete the two files with "... @samsungc[email protected]" in the name. Its a .dex and a .art file.
3. Power off, wipe cache, reboot.
now the Camera should work with the default settings.

Right now i'm doing some research to make some improvements on Camera and Audio to our device.
Things i've done so far:

Force 1080p recording (it has no affect playing with media_profiles.xml yet)
AGC - Automatic Gain Control (if you record something very loud like a concert, the sound will get very ****ed up)
What I know:
Motorola has disabled AGC for some reason I don't know. If you look at audio_effects.conf you'll find some Dolby code and AGC, AEC and NS as commentaries.
AGC, AEC and NS relies on pre_processing and libaudiopreprocessing.so, which wasn't declared on the file in first place.
The sensor has 1080p capabilities (pipeline and everything), since we share the same camera module as Nexus 5. I believe we can fine tune some stuff with the camera apk. For now I want to try this first to later research with libs/drivers.
I've managed to decompress the APK file but i have no idea how to decompile DEX, ARSC and the XML files (are XML compressed/obfuscated? It wasn't readable).
Can someone enlight me over?

Hi all, can confirm this works on stock 5.0.2, no bootloops, audio quality REALLY impressive, as for AGC, I tried screaming into the mic a couple times and there was no audio distortion, I still need to check out the increased video bitrate, but it looks really sweet, thank you, keep up the awesome work, really looking forward to 1080p video working on this device

Resolution still the same (8MP). What was changed was the post-processing compression to 1%.

That's not possble for photos, but the video resolution could theoretically be increased from 720p (aprox. 0.9 Megapixels) to 1080p (2MP).
Is there a way to enable recording with 60 frames per second? I would also like to see some comparison pictures/videos if possible.

Hmmm i don't think so, not without messing with the .so files.
In low light conditions out device records at 15 FPS to increase sensor exposure to compensate the light. In sunny conditions it records at 30.
I've been trying to decompile the lastest moto camera but it seems i can't find some portion of the code. I'm still trying to understand how those stuff works and how Android manage and rely in things.
I'll reserch some more about decompiling/recompiling APK and .so files.

Obviously, it doesn't work. My guess is: Sensor DOES support and app detects it, but libs don't.

I flashed this MOD on Candy Rom and my themes stopped working, not sure why, now I can't install any theme; is there a way to revert the changes? Thanks!

I built a simple app that allow you to quickly switch the virtual resolution between default 2K and 4K without a computer.
Unfortunately, since the command is not available on the userland, the process needs superuser permission to change virtual resolution.
If you somehow manage to break your resolution, especially leading to crash loop of Xperia Home, check on other topics how to restore the original values.
Since the custom feature can be "dangerous" for the reasons above, I added a check when save and switch custom values to avoid any resolution under [email protected] (Z5 Compact default values).

Yes, it is one of the goal of this app, being able to switch back to 1080p without a PC to use apps that doesn't support 4K.
The phone app is the most common known issue.

Is the battery consumption less?

Not much for usual usage, I suppose much if you play 3D games.
There is another topic I don't remember where speaking about this.

You mean during the resizing ?

Get the screen flashing light and dark like screens messed when it's not though works perfectly. Then suddenly get flickering

What definition are you using ?
As described looks like a screen issue of your phone.. It happens in 1080p too ?

I saw that the best dpi on the 4k resolution without crashing any app wasn't 807 but 706, 720 or 721, I don't remember exactly sorry

As far as I know, it does the exact same thing as the ADB command (except through an app).

It said that the newest file couldn't be found (error: 410)?
I tried the older version (1.1) And the program doesn't seem to do anything, is there a way to check?
