Hi,
We all know already that it is possible to change the wallpaper and making is fixed by changing the file permission of:
"data/data/com.android.settings/files/wallpaper" to read only on a rooted KF.
What I was thinking is, we can make an application with root access that can
set the file permission change the wallpaper and then re-change the file permission back to read only.
Is this type of app exist already or i should go and start working on that?
Regards,
LaBBa.
just do it.

I don't find any thread regarding bootanimations on Desire Z so I would like to ask some questions as I am new to this.
I managed to successfully root my Desire z and I have installed [ROM][6/5/11] InsertCoin_Vision Sense2.1 + 3.0 (v1.5) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080999).
Now I would like to know how to change the bootanimations, I did some searching on the site and found the following guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846394).
Problem is there are several method and there's a specific method for Sense ROM. If I am using InserCoin with Vision Sense 2.1, which method should I follow?
Any ideas or advise on this? Thank you.
Easiest way to change boot animations is using something like root explorer. Download the boot animation you want and make sure it is named bootanimation.zip the copy it to system/customize/ resource and set the permissions correctly.
If check the themes and apps sections of other handsets you will find loads of boot animations. So will even be packaged as flashable zips

I tried to wipe all the data in /data/local using root explorer and put the bootanimation.zip. Nothing showed up when I reboot my Z.
I browsed to system/customize/resource and found there's the default bootanimation.zip from HTC. I have backed that up and was going to overwrite it with the new bootanimation.zip but it won't allow me because the file system is read only. I tried to change the permission but no luck.
Any help with this?

top right corner of the screen when you're in root explorer there is a little switch which says r/w. click it then you will be able to back up you original boot animation, and paste a new one in

You can also use the UOT kitchen. It has a lot of bootanimations available and is real simple to use. Here is the link...

This is awesome. Thank you for the link. Can't wait to play around with it.
I am posting here because I wan't able to post on the ROM page. I am a long time reader but have, for the first time, found a question I need answered that I haven't been able to find by simply reading. I am running a JB Rom (4.1) and this particular rom came with Google Chrome as the default browser. I want to keep the Rom but install the default Android browser. I have downloaded the apk and moved it into my system apps but I can figure out how to get it to install. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated. Thanks.
You need to make sure the permissions are the same as the other system apps and then reboot.

How do I do that ? I have tried fixing permissions in Recovery, but other than that I'm not sure how to do it.

Root explorer or es file manager find the /system/app should be browser.apk then hold on it and select properties and change the permissions. Should be the first row completely checked then the next row should only have the first two checked.

Nevermind, I figured out how to fix the permissions. Thanks for your help.
OK I have changed my bootanimation many times with many roms. I cannot get it to work with my SIII using C-Rom. It's 4.4.2 (and an awesome rom btw). I placed the new bootanimation.zip in the system/media directory using root explorer just like always and I used one that I know for sure works because I have used it before. But instead of the new boot animation it just shows the image I attached and it kind of shimmers. I tried putting the original bootanimation.zip back in place and it still is this stupid picture. Any ideas?

Please make sure the permissions are set correctly on the new bootanimation. (rw_r_r )

In Root Explorer, under properties of the file, you can change permissions. The Animation won't work fine unless you set the right permissions.
Glad its worked out.

I would like to put the McAfee app back on my G3. The find my phone feature looked reasonable when I was running the stock ROM.
Can anyone post it? I assume its not just the normal McAfee app from the playstore.
Thanks

Did you reboot after copy and changing permissions, then just run the app from normal app icon, no need to install.

Newer versions, like v30c stock include, have private photo taking of intruders etc. I tried to install the one from my v30c twrp backup (extracted to PC); but it don't work. I have the same problem.N5100 with chinese as default. I'd like to change that to samsung.
After pasteing you have to change the permissions of the pasted files to match the permissions of other files there.
I've never pasted apks, but changing the host file I have to fix permissions to rw-r--r--. Maybe you can paste, reboot into recovery and fix permissions to correct the permissions.

All the Stock Samsung Apps need also Samsung framework and CM based Rom do not have is framework included. So this will never work.

so what we can do please to add the framework, i have the framework folder that inclode .jar files,
i extracted them from System/Framework folder, from the older system recovery
help us please if you can
User_99 has a valid point that I overlooked.
If you want to try anyway:
(This is for root explorer options/methods may vary with other apps but it should give you an idea.) After pasting the files long press them to bring up the options. Press permissions, make sure read and write are checked for owner, and only read for groups and others. Then reboot for good measure.
To fix permissions in recovery (instead of using the method above) it depends on the recovery you have installed. Cwm has a fix permissions option under 'advanced'. Twrp has one too but I'm not well versed in it to guide you to it. After running the fix permissions option reboot.
As user_99 stated tho, if they are tied to the stock framework it still won't work.

Edit: typo.
