LCD density with market fix! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

To anyone who wants a higher LCD density on our beautiful screen but can't stand the market issues, I recently found this app on the market for only $3. It changes the density and edits the market to make it think the density is 240 so there are no compatibility issues . Definitely worth the money, so check it out if you want:

I personally use 200 because it looks nice but doesn't affect the grid size on my homescreen, which I like at 4x4.

I prefer 180 myself, it's all preference though

Correct me if I am wrong as I am newer to this but could the same thing be accomplished with a build prop edit?

Yes, but the awesome thing that this app does differently is that it fixes the market compatibility issues that changing the density causes

is there a way to get the stock TW launcher to work properly with the density lowered?

Thanks! 180 looks amazing!

What do you guys do about the stock dialer messing up if you change the density?

Not that I know of. For some reason all touchwiz type things don't play nice with raised density.

There's nothing you can really do but either get a dailer replacement on the market or just run and AOSP rom because they have no problems with higher density.

Hi thank you for sharing, does anyone know how to install a stock gingerbread phone apk.

I'm pretty sure you can't use stock on a tw rom but I'm not entirely sure.

Other than for visual purposes, what is a benefit to have this. I have never used lcd app to change my density. I have used something similar on my vibrant but everything looked too small.

I can't think of anything really besides maybe that it lets you see more things at once on the screen in some situations (like in your contacts or browser). It doesn't really look too small (IMO) on this screen because it's so big lol.

Yeah. Fron what ive seen it seems to mess with other things, such as dialer being messed up and market issues. If i can avoid purchasing an app i will if i dont necessarily "need" it. Thank you for your reply.

220 was perfect for me. Made icons large and the text large so that my screens would look the same. Using exdialer since stock dialer didn't stretch. Perfect now with extra resolution.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

The pixel density of this screen compared to it's size is exactly 206 (check gsmarena or do the math). Hence that is what I use for DPI. It really showcases the screen as it fits so damn much and everything is legible and sized right.
Ofc, on stock, this doesn't work good.

thats how you do it manually with market fix.

LCD Density Changer

I just installed this app last night and started messing around with it. I have mine set at 200 everything looks good. This is how the Evo should have shipped IMO. My question is, will this damaged the LCD at some point in time? Or is it harmless to our phones?

Haven't tried the app, but there is a script that is on the Cyanogen Forum that does the same thing, but the changes are persistent after a reboot.

Well I think their is a setting where you can save your current as the system default.

There is, but it doesn't stick on Gingerbread roms...at least not in my experience. The script from Lithid does though.

Both editing the buil.prop and using lcd density app work on GB. I personally use the app cause i switch back and forth.

You need to use adw launcher or a similar product that allows you to add more then 4 icons in a row/column. This will allow you to change the size of the widgets.

Changing DPI on apps

Any way to do this on other roms ala ParanoidAndroid? I'd like to change the dpi for specific apps not the whole phone. Searched the market and came up with nothing. Didn't get much from a gsearch either.

Its in the build.prop.
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=
or if you dont wanna mess with system files, download LCD Density Modder from the market, and use that. you have to be rooted though.
EDIT: thats impossible to do it for specific apps, and pointless.. lol

Not pointless. Its one of the best features on the paranoidandroid port. For example the xda app is huge I'd like to make it a 200 dpi. But I want to keep apex at its default 240.

AFAIK... paranoidandroid is the only ROM able to do this. Even in then, there are still numerous errors, FCs with apps. To answer your OP, its impossible without paranoidandroid. Unless you wanna grab some source code and figure it out

Screen resolution?

What is the screen resolution? IE there is 360, 600, 720, 800 etc. I just got it today and I am messing with some theming and don't want to waste time on the wrong ones. I'm theming systemui right now

I believe it was 320. I got mine set to 240 now Do u think you can mod the stock dialer and camera app to fit that!
Thanks ben
Can you explain why you lowered the dpi and how you did it. . One would think one would want more dpi not less?

The lower dpi = higher "resolution" gives you more screen space smaller icons looks way better then the stock huge icons.
You should try it.
I did it with rom toolbox under screen density.

Themers will understand. The Numbers I listed are all in the stock rom, but only one needs to be themed

Changing DPI in Jelly Bean

I recently finally switched over to jelly bean from gingerbread. I used to use lcd modder pro to change my LCD density to 200 giving me the perfect screen resolution. I tried using it on JB and all it did was give me a soft brick making me reinstall everything. Is there something that works well with JB now to do the same thing? Also I would need to fix the problem with market incompability (LCD Modder fixed this inherently).
Thanks for any tips.

Yes, RTP sites a good job changing dpi. What you'll find, however cc is that some apps don't adjust properly, ie dialer, mail. For this I use the per app dpi changer. Great app found on here at XDA.
