[Q] Question about AOKP - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I saw on twitter that the Android Open Kang Project rom that is on the Galaxy Nexus was ported to the evo 4g by someone. I asked a couple of times where I could find it but I haven't heard anything. The rom runs so good on my nexus. I know it might not be as good on the evo but I'd like to toss it on my girlfriends phone. Has anyone seen the port anywhere?

Kinda stupid but...

Will the Samsung Epic 4G ever get official CyanogenMod Support? I just got one and opened it this morning and I'm regretting it a little bit. I could still change it for the Evo, but I like this phone, so I was just wondering if more developers will support this device and if it'll ever have official CM support...? Thanks.
Definitely stupid, no kinda about it.
If you had bothered to look around for less than 5 minutes you'd have seen that there is currently a CM7 port in progress that meets criterion for Official support and just needs to be submitted to receive official support.
Damn I didn't know you could Search my entire history and see that I didn't read that Thread? Oh wait, you can't... and hold on, I did.
It is just a port though. When's it going to be submitted? And also, how about Gingerbread? Samsung's been known for leaving a lot of their phones behind... you think we'll ever get Gingerbread or not?
It will be submitted when it's complete, if you read it like you say you did you would know that, and the Evo doesn't exactly have an official Gingerbread either so that would hardly be a logical criterion in keeping the phone.
Yeah, but it does have official CM7 support, and if you asked me which manufacturer I'd believe in more to provide me some Christmas Treats, I'd say HTC. Oh, and the neighbors loud music.
Hey I traded my evo for an epic and it has its pros and cons. It really is a much better device, better screen, faster, and it has the physical keyboard. The big down side is there is not as many devs on it.
There is a team right now working on build CM7 from source for the epic so it will then be supported by the cm team. They are getting close but there still are some bugs.
If I was you I would hold on to the epic its a pretty damn good phone.
Edit: CM will only support a CM rom if its built from source, so as right now its not supported by cm. But from what I understand they are still helping.
I strongly agree with what you said, and for that, I will hold onto the phone. Thanks for that.

Might work pending hardware, not sure if eveything is exactly the same.
OMG this is really what I most care about, I am addicted to CM7 roms and absolutely love them. I expect the original CM7 nighties from GS2 won't work because of radio issues just like the nexus s roms didn't work on nexus s 4g for sprint, but I hope just like from nexus s to nexus s 4g that it will be minor tweaks so that it will be done fairly quickly.
Doesn't Steve Kondik work for Samsung now? Maybe he'll be instrumental in making Cyanogen readily available on all new Samsung models.

I was going to say something earlier.
They will not work. They have to be built for this particular device. It needs to have support for Wimax and the Sprint network.
If you want CM on this phone we have to hope a DEV will work on it.

We could set up a donation pool to get Decad3nce an E4GT to work on....
best to just wait and see. CM teams are awesome and normally don't want a donation pool. I bet a very good developer will come around and push CM onto it. It's the first Galaxy SII in the USA...
now if nobody jumps on then we should consider getting a dev a phone.
maybe he'll convince samsung to stop using garbage A2DP drivers....that would be awesome.
I've been using CM exclusively on my EVO since around christmas because the bluetooth audio streaming to my head unit in my car is so horrible. I don't know why he's the only one who's got it right. I plan on getting my GS2 in the next few days, and as much as i'm looking forward to it, I'm NOT looking forward to losing that crystal clear audio that only CM roms seem to provide.
Well no offense but it worked great on my Samsung Epic for Bluetooth streaming. Sorry the Evo didn't. I think that was just rushed BT compilation if CM was the only stable and clear offering. You will be much happier on this phone. Samsung gets the media portions of these phones right. Atleast for me they seem to be great. Though HTC's new Beats partnership could be enticing.

I've head a friend of mine's galaxy s from at&t and his has the same quality issue. There are also plenty of threads all over the net (including xda) about a lot of Sammy and HTC android phones with the exact issue I'm referring to.
I'm sure I'm going to love this phone, and i hope you're right about the audio issues..

[Q] Quick question before purchasing this phone.

My EVO 4G just had a run in with a 2x12 and didn't survive to well so I'm thinking about picking this up from Sprint. I only really have 2 questions about it.
1. Is the SD slot behind the battery cover or is it on the side of the phone?
2. Does this phone have Cyanogenmod running on it? Do the standard SGS II Cyanogenmod roms run on it?
1, The SD slot is under the battery cover.
2. CyanogenMod is in development and there are no ROMs available yet.
There are about 15 ROMs available from other developers (not CM yet):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Epic_4G_Touch/ROMs
Trust me once you go Samsung you will never go back to HTC.
This RIG rocks. Ive had them all Samsung is hands down the winner.

Right on. I am hooked.
So the sgs ii cm7 rom doesn't work here? That is pretty much a major deal to me. Is there any ICS going on here?
There isn't any cm yet. The other phones aren't compatible with cdma. Coming from an eris (Verizon hero) you won't mind not having cm too much there are plenty of good roms and it isn't like sense where it screws the entire phone unless you have cm. There is an alpha release of 7 but that's it for now.

Give it a week. It's coming. Once that happens ICS is next. Also MIUI is coming along nicely.
And don't forget to donate to CM when it DOES come! Those guys work their butts off for us! A beer is plenty
i used CM7 on my droid1 and htc evo and they were nice.
but trust me, the calkulin 2.6 is awesome
super battery life much better than what you got with cm7 on its best day.
just bc it doesnt have cm7... shouldnt deter you
i think this is the best phone on sprint right now.
and the dev community for the et4g is very good. aside from bashing noobs who are lazy... hahaha
I was gonna go htc.. but seriously, i am loving samsung.

Same here. I was putting off coming from EVO. Took the early upgrade and theres no looking back.

Well, Just bought myself a Galaxy Nexus

Finally. I ordered a Galaxy from EBay and now I have to wait 5-6 days for it to come. So I was wondering what has happened in the Galaxy Nexus community.
Oh I got the Sprint Galaxy Nexus (Toroplus I believe)
Also I was wondering if there were any good fast and stable Jellybean Roms.
So glad to become part of the Nexus Family.

how much did you buy it for? i looked at ebay and buy now price is 50-100 bucks more than what the play store offers
right now im on the amaze 4g.. and the development is horrible... it has good hardware but oh my lord HTC refuses to release kernel source for the darn device. i dont know if HTC does that for the rest of their device ughhhhhh so im reluctant to buy another device from them. should i join you fellow gnex owners?
what device did you come from? ive been looking through the dev thread for the gnex and paranoid rom looks very enticing.

Make the switch, you won't regret it. The specs on the Nexus are not only better (aside from camera and lack of sd slot) but development is light years ahead of the Amaze. There will of course be a new Nexus in the next 3-4 months, but it won't be $350 that's for sure. I came from an Amaze, and a T-Mo S2 and don't regret it one bit.

I come from the Evo 3D, came to Galaxy Nexus due to HTC not releasing the Kernel Source. Now development is dead. Oh and I got it off of eBay, it cost me $255USD with shipping. Clean ESN, light use, comes with everything that comes. The headset, the Charger, everything.

im not surprised with what you just said..
ugggghhh its just so irritating. they release phones with awesome specs but then you cant developed for it....
i hate it when people say "oh we'll get the latest update from cyanogen xx.xx...."
which is BULL****... considering half the time cyanogen wont ever be as refined or close to being complete on said device considering the lack of kernel source/lack of support from the manufacture... people buying non nexus devices are just being delusional. i have come to that conclusion. maybe manufacturers need to beef up the specs of their nexus device in the upcoming years
i believe the only non nexus device that i believed had a blossoming of development is the T-mobile G2\htc vision (i personally had that phone and had lots of fond moments flashing roms in)
other than that nexus all the way. i just wish htc makes the next nexus or there would be 5 of them in the future
HTC is becoming like Apple at the moment... Their One S .. non removable battery and no SD card slot.. and They won't release their damn Kernel Sources.. they discontinue any device and take a whole lot to update them. Not to mention that if you ask and tell them that there is something wrong with your device they say "Hello we are sorry to hear. If you want to try to stay up to date and see if your phone will be able to be fixed join our completely ****ty Twitter or Facebook, because we don't give a **** about you guys, you gave us money , we don't care and we just want to get more popular."
Their support is ****.

Have to disagree with you on the "blossoming of development" part.
Have had the captivate. Which to this day. Is still going strong. And had a jellybean port before the gs3.
I had the epic touch 4g and the att gs2. Which are both still amazing phones going strong. And I am now onto the gs3 which isn't even 2 months old. (U.S release) and the number of ROMs and support for it is overwhelming.

I actually am getting a nexus on Tuesday, coming from a Droid Incredible which has working ports of - Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.
Its a device that won't die with great devs still, sense 3.5 roms were last developed by Newt/Joelz/Wildstang/Puremotive.
We had an amazing dev and community spot, its dying down as others are upgrading.

High development and seems to be a great and strong community plus the nexus will be my second android phone.
I don't wanna say the nexus is the pinnacle of android phones per-say but its the one fellow nerd lovers and rioters alike will rejoice in a happy community thanks to Google and Samsung.
I honestly cannot wait to start enjoying this phone! Its big enough for my hands, my 3'7 incredible.. my hand swallows this phone and I needed a big phone.
Ahh I'm ecstatic!!!

+1 on that bro, I can't wait for it to be here. And for fun's sake I even spent all night watching an Unboxing video. The only time I have ever touched the Galaxy nexus was in a Sprint store. I looked at the Gnex Screen, then back at mine. Mine looked ****ty compared to the Galaxy Nexus' Gorgeous Screen Resolution. It looked so beautiful. Messed with the UI and felt so smooth. And that was ICS. They say Jellybean is 5x Better than ICS. The moment I get the phone I'll root it and install a good JB Rom.
What's a good Sprint Galaxy Nexus Jellybean Rom?

Of course you should root! The development is astounding I personally have spent many hours molding and tweaking mine and loved every minute of it. We have some of the best and most generous devs in the world

jb 4.2 update cdma verizon/sprint version of galaxy nexus?

I know that 4.2 just recently started rolling out for the gsm version of the galaxy nexus..
With that being said the CDMA galaxy nexus I.e Verizon and sprint will have to wait til our carriers
Release our updates knowing Verizon it will probably take years lol
But will someone port a 4.2 ROM for us ?
Is it possible? Or does anyone know or have
Some sort of leak images?

It'll happen just like it did last time. First it goes to the HSPA version, then CDMA gets a port.
Oh hai! You must be new here.
There could very well be a GSM port available at the end of today, depending on how devs feel today. This is what happened with 4.1 for the Verizon Gnex, the GSM version came out, and maybe 12 hours later, a dev ported it to the Verizon Gnex. :good:
Thank you for the feedback.. yes I am new I know I'm like a year late but I recently picked up a Verizon galaxy nexus, and with all this stuff releasing today
Nexus 4.. and jb 4.2 I'm excited to run 4.2 on this phone like I said being on Verizon I know it'll take them forever to release that build so I was just curious
If we can get some sort of port
cyanogenmod posted on G+ that 4.2 is being pushed to AOSP now... then you just have to wait for the devs to build one shouldn't be long if you are on toro I would keep an eye for mmuzzy or mwalt to put one up they are pretty quick about it once it hits AOSP
