Franco Kernel [GNex CDMA] - please help - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me with a problem I'm having with the Franco Kernel. I have a rooted Galaxy Nexus, running on stock Android 4.0.2. I have a bit of experience running various custom ROMs and kernels with a OG Droid and HTC Thunderbolt. Until now, I've been content to run stock ICS on the GNex, along with the stock kernel.
I was impressed with the amount of praise I have recently read (I'm a habitual lurker on a number of Android forums) about the Franco kernel, however, and thought I would give it a go. If it can improve performance and battery life, that is fantastic. So, I bought the franco.Kernel updater from the Market, downloaded the zip file (#15), proceeded to recovery and installed it.
That seemed to all go smoothly. The problem is that when I rebooted, the phone got hung up on the black and white "Google" screen. I know sometimes, it can take a while for the phone to do what it needs to do under the hood before it boots up, but after ten minutes on the "Google" screen I did a battery pull, went straight to recovery and reverted to my latest backup.
I've done some searching for anyone who's had a similar issue, but I can't seem to find what the problem might be. Most likely, I'm simply missing something small but critical to the successful installation of this kernel. I'm hoping someone with more experience than me might recognize what it is I'm doing wrong.
Any patient assistance or advice would be heartily appreciated. Cheers!

I could be wrong, but Franco works for 4.0.3, not 4.0.2.

Which could be precisely the one small thing I am missing. I will check this out. Thanks for the suggestion.

Im using franco 14.4, not yet upgraded because when you flash a new kernel, you have always to wipe everything and i'm lazy now ..

Where are you getting this information from?
Not once did I have (nor have other people) wipe everything on kernel updates. You do not have to wipe everything for a kernel flash...

cool! thanks! good to know I read a bit everywhere.
I mean, I know how a kernel is, and thinking about it it's true that is not needed to wipe, but if he has some problems he could try this out :/ maybe a fresh installation of everything could be good

[Q] Can't flash any ROMs that aren't 4.0.2

I have a Gnex rooted and unlocked - DroidModderX - I'm currently running Android Revolution HD very simple mod, barely has anything changed. This mod is 4.0.2. I have tried installing gummy, AOSP, a bunch of other ones. it always says error installing it. Anybody have any advice. Any way to get my Rogers Gnex to 4.0.3?
Thank you
does the error say something like a word i think its like outset or something (100% sure this is not the word) then alot of numbers after? that happens with mine too, but the rom installs fine.
Do you have the latest Clockwork Recovery Mod installed?
Also are you doing a full wipe before you attempt to flash the ROM?

I have seen it say "offset" when I was using the Codename Android ROM.
I did not wipe my cache and data, I was scared that if I did that and it didn't work... I would have to start over again. Download all my programs. configure
Sometimes it doesn't download any of my programs. I restarted it and installed my old OS three times to get it to download my contacts.
I will see the exact thing it says to me soon. thanks guys
You *must* do a full wipe before going to a 4.0.3 ROM. Since your /system is still there, that is what is causing the issue.
However, use the Backup feature in CWM and you can restore it if anything goes bad.
The wipe will knock out your /system, /cache, and /dalvik but will not touch anything on your SD card which holds you photos, etc.
Wish me luck...
I already did a backup - FULL - in Galaxy Nexus Toolkit.
I'm thinking of going with AOKP M3. Let me know if you have any other suggestions.
I hope that is enough to get my phone back to the way it was...
I would like to change the Kernel too. Do you recommend any? I was thinking about franco kernel.
Thanks guys
Good luck!
I have tried three ROMs now and I greatly prefer AOKP the most. Currently I am on AOKP M3 using Faux's kernel but I was running AOKP M3 with Leankernel 1.9.0 with great results.
My battery drain seems a *little* bit more on Faux's but I have only been running it for one day.
Every kernel I try, the battery life improves over a couple days or more so I am going to let it settle.
I tried doing the change. I wiped everything that you could choose and it still gave me the same error. Didn't do it. I have no idea what the problem is. I have no idea how to get my phone to 4.0.3. F***
How about actually mentioning the error you're seeing as opposed to just winging?
It will work so it has to be something you're doing that's wrong

JB roms suddenly not working?

I'm just going to throw this out there for anyone who may know the answer, after searching for the last 3 days, I'm not finding anyone else having the same problem, so I'm thinking it may be something I did. Here's the issue.
I'm a confirmed flash-a-holic, and flash new roms or backups probably 2-3 times per week. I haven't tried any of the JB roms until recently, but dove in just before Nit's Viper Rom became available for ICS. I had installed the JB "global" rom, and had it working(ish), and then changed to the viper mod, then installed Aeroevan's "unofficial JB" when the 10/25 update on Goo.im came available. The install went smoothly and it worked great for about a day, then tanked big time when I tried to change the launcher from Trebuchet to Nova (I can't even guess why THAT had anything to do with it). It started lagging big time and then boot looping. Now, upon trying to wipe everything (factory reset/cache/dalvik/all partitions but sd), I get nothing but boot loops and NONE of the JB roms will install. From my reading, I know others get boot loops, but after a sequence, finally get into setup. Mine will too after 5-6 boot loops minimum, but the screen freezes on the initial setup screen and it's completely unusable (touch screen unresponsive). I don't get why that is when I HAD it installed the other day and it was very responsive (using Aeroevan's JB mod). I WAS using the 4EXT recovery when I started doing all of this, then switched recoveries to the most recent TWRP, and it allowed me to install Aeroevan's JB mod, and even start the setup, but very soon started lagging and then the boot loops again. At this point, I'm sortof at a loss, and the only thing I can think of is that maybe I should NOT have been wiping the sd partitions and SHOULD have only been wiping cache/dalvik/factory reset. At the moment, anyway all ICS mods are flashing/running just fine (currently on Nit's Vipermod and really liking it btw), but if anyone knows where I went astray, I'd appreciate any pointers. Thanks all, this is by far the best forum I have been a part of!

Ok, I made headway by reverting TWRP recovery back to 4ext's newest recovery, restored my oldest original stock GB backup with ext3 partitions which was originally a CWM recovery. I let it run after install for about 10 minutes without updating anything, then 4Ext wiped data, cache/dalvik, system. I then reformatted all partitions back to 4ext and then wiped everything again even fixing permissions. Then I tried a fresh install to Aeroevan's unofficial CM10 from 10/25 and gapps from 10/11. Install went smoothly and booted first time with no boot loops. I'm using it right now and I'm back in the butter again..... for now at least. If I take a turn for the worst, I'll post back.
Ok, well, scratch that, I am having the same problems a couple of other guys are having in the cm10 dev thread. I'm only able to run sense roms, original stock, UKBII, etc, no ICS or JB roms work, incredibly laggy and bootlooping endlessly. I have never had this much trouble flashing roms, I do it all the time. Sadly, it started when I flashed the viper rom, and I don't even have a copy of it to re-flash now since I wiped my card and it wasn't backed up on my computer (I think I must've downloaded it from my phone). I have spent WAY too much time on this, so am now relegated to only lurking here until someone can find a solution that's not just "firing down the well" like I've been doing since this started.

On follow-up, I read mixed opinions about the wisdom of using TiBu on restores, assuming I'm able to ever recover this my thinking is that one could use TiBu to restore apps ONLY and NO data and that would/should not cause a problem (assuming you're restoring a backup from within your installed ROM's file structure .i.e., JB/ICS/GB)? Also, I use My Backup Pro to restore call/MMS/texts only, that oughta be safe too shouldn't it?
I had a similar issue last night. never had problems flashing from viper to cm10 till yesterday. I've flashed back and forth about 3 times until I flashed the leaked 4.2 camera with sphere camera on aero cm10 Halloween build. I was playing around with the sphere camera and attempted to get it to actually finish loading the pics together by overclocking to 1.4mhz and I ended up pulling the battery. it boot looped very slow and laggy after. I did a full wipe, fresh install of aeros cm10 from twrp and got the same thing. So I recovered viper Rom from twrp , booted, then did a full wipe and install of cm10 and still boot loops laggy. I did not have the overclock settings "set at boot" ticked when I put it to 1.4mhz. odd indeed

So... I was having no issues until today's huge headache. I was on cm10 10-25 and it worked great. Dirty flashed to 31 and it all went to hell. Slowed to a crawl so restarted to recovery to fix permission. Restarted and it kept restarting. I got some failure message when it would boot. Don't recall what it was.
I then tried 3 different recoveries and also full wipes and fresh flashes of 3 different roms. Same loop result basically. Finally an old recovery worked and I'm on a month old mrom version now. Soo... any thoughts on what the heck happened? I did nothing out of the ordinary. I was worried I somehow bricked but obviously not since I'm sending this on my phone. Kinda freaked to do anything right now... any thoughts or help/ideas?
PS... I just use the basic cwm and only cwm for my recoveries.

so I got aeros 10/31 build to boot after taking 10 min to finish the start up set-up. it was extremely laggy, it would random restart a few times. I played around with over clocking then under clocking but the cpu was maxed out 24/7. I'm assuming this is what is causing the extreme lag. I changed the governor to on demand and it started to act normal and not lag out. so I used it for awhile then I decided to change the cpu governor back to smartassv2 and then I was back to lag and the cpu was maxxed again... can't recreate the scenario cuz it doesn't boot now...
my conclusion is it has to due with the kernel and cpu governors on JB. I've tried aeros jb 12, 13,14,and 15 kernel and also Evans kernel with no luck on getting the cpu not to b maxed out... hope this helps solve the issue

Unfortunately I too am finding it near impossible to flash any ICS/JB ROM. The closest I've gotten is the Google sign-in on Andromadus Mimicry, but that practically slows to a halt when signing in. As of now I'm on Condemned CM7 and I must say I REALLY miss Google Music.

Baby mamas INC 2 has been having same issues. I have to believe it had something to do with her being on the ICS leak from back in September with the 320 radio. I went as far as to getting back to compete stock with s-off. Got back to 2.3.3, got CWM and root. Hopefully I can try getting her phone back on CM9-10 cuz she really misses it and we were having EXACT problems stated above. Boot loops, touch screen not responsive, wallpaper would change out of nowhere, lock screen would be black with nothing but hardware buttons lighting up. Thank GOD for these devs and their work to get back to stock or I would have thrown this POS out the window lol.

I did the revert a while back for some other issues and didn't have any trouble getting aeroevan's CM10 up and running. I haven't had any issues with it other than the persistent bugs which are no problem for me. I don't think these issues have anything to do with the radio, but with the way the stuff is getting flashed. You might try a different recovery. I have had success with TWRP and CWM (as installed from ROM Manager, not touch) restored from a backup for me, but I didn't install using CWM.

Any idea why no rom will work? (CDMA)

I recently recieved my One V and finally decided on rooting/installing a custom rom. I came from an Optimus V and had no problems installing a custom rom in that.
However it seems that no matter what kernel/rom I use they eventually lock up within the first 5 minutes of booting and restart. I've tried practically everything and can't get them to work. I wanted to ideally run the CDMA Pacman Rom w/ the Supersick kernel. Any help would be greatly appreciated so I have can have this working before work tomorrow.

"It ain't workin" isn't enough information for anyone to troubleshoot from.
Be more specific on what you did, which instructions you followed, what ROM and what kernel, what sort of computer you're running, where you're downloading from, and the steps you are taking. If none of the ROMs are working, the problem is probably not the ROM, if you know what I mean...

I used the HTC One V AIO Toolkit to unlock the bootloader, get root, install CWM 6.0, create a backup and then install a kernel (I used the Super Sick JB one). From there I used CWM to gain access to my SD card and transferred over the CDMA Pacman ROM (after wiping everything clean) and then installed the ROM. It booted up successfully however as stated in a minute or so it would freeze up and restart itself. Even if I don't do anything after a reboot it'll still reboot itself anyways.
I did a bit of research and I'm thinking it could be due to the OTA Radio update from 2-3 weeks ago? I'm at my bootloader now and it says I have radio version 1.00.00.0928.
Any further help to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated. It's worth noting that I've tried many different Kernels (repeating all the steps above with full wipes every time) and different ROMs that were supported by the kernels. I've even tried to restore my phone back to stock and it just starts skipping at the VM Boot screen.
Oh, and I'm running Windows 7.
You mean the Rom booted normally right ?? If yes then the problem is with the Rom

Pardon my ignorance but that just doesn't make sense. I've tried several different ROMs with the correct kernel's (Pacman, CM9/10, AOKP JB) and it's all the same scenario. They all boot (or occasionally don't boot and restart themselves at the boot animation) and then reboot themselves once they're pass the lock screen.
Like I said even currently if I restore my stock rom file it just loops at the VM Boot animation (which doesn't play fluidly).
Figured out the issue . It was radio version 1.00.00.0928 messing up my kernel.

Issue closed. Delete this please.

Hi guys, I urgently need your help! Yesterday my phone drastically slowed down, I don't know what may have been.
I was using cyanogenmod 10 with Franco kernel (I was testing 512 GPU version). So I tried restoring a backup, but no use, slooooow!
I did all the wipes and reflashed CM10 from scratch, with gapps. Problem still exists! Tried reflashkng Franco Kernel (380 GPU) and still the same. At first I thought I might have fried my GPU, but Franco kernel updater app shows gpu working.
So I think this may require a total wipe (including sdcard) and a stock good image reflash from the gn toolkit.
I'm attaching a log right after boot (which took AGES). It seems to me that something's not right.. by I need HELP!
Thank you guys...
http://db.tt/k3dz0aP9
I am not an expert of reading logs yet so probably another member will help you more regarding that.
It seems you have already done a full wipe and tried installing/flashing again but I am not sure which procedure you followed. So my suggestion is to put on your SD card a ROM and kernel, maybe Trinity just for a change, then do full wipe and install the ROM and the kernel so it will be all fresh with a new kernel as well.
If it is still slow, then download any app that would control the CPU and GPU speed to ensure of their speeds running now.
At worst case, returning to stock should help a lot in determining if it is a software or (hopefully not) hardware problem.
Good Luck
I found out that other people have this problem, so I'm asking in the already open threads. Close this please.

[Q] Flashed update, now I have a blank screen

Hey all -
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy SIII with TWRP, AOKP JB Milestone 5 and GooManager. I got a pop-up for AOKP JB Milestone 6 this morning, so I downloaded it and added that file, Lean Kernel 2.9 and gapps (latest that could be downloaded) to the flash list. I set my Dalvik cache to clear before flashing anything, then rebooted the phone to flash everything. Immediately after the flash, the phone seemed to reboot, but with a blank screen. After a while, the capacitive buttons on the front started working and when I plugged the phone into my computer the file transfer program popped up.
However ... at no point can I ever get anything to display on the screen. I've tried rebooting into recovery (volume up, home button, power button) and nothing. I don't really care about the data on my phone, I have proper backups of everything. But what I can't seem to do is get it to a point where I can recover it. What are my options here if rebooting into recovery doesn't work?
Thanks!
As an addendum, the phone is clearly booted into the OS. I have a blinking notification LED that indicates a new e-mail, and calls placed to the phone cause it to ring. I just can't see .... anything on it.
I was able to get into TWRP, somehow. I took out my T-Mobile SIM card and had it plugged into USB. I held down the recovery combo and then it booted up into recovery. It also displayed the Galaxy SIII white splash screen for the first time since the bad flash. What the hell.

so was you able to use your phone again i say go back to a nandroid you have or flash a rom that you know works good on your phone without that white screen and trouble shoot from there that it very strange indeed if you get success with the other just try posting in the ROM thread that you flashed you could possibly get more help where it happened :good:
I went back to AOKP Milestone 5 after doing a full wipe. I saw a number of graphics changes in the Milestone 6 code review, so it's possible that had something to do with it. In any case, I'm no longer panicing
Does mr6 use the 3.4 kernel? If yes, then you were using the wrong version of leankernel.
Ya its all kernel related and user error.

Nope, JB can be AOSP, TouchWiz, 4.1, 4.2, 4.2.2, 3.0 kernel, 3.4 kernel. Just need to read and make sure you know what you're doing before just doing it. That's why I frown at people being lazy (not just you) and not reading the forums and such, and just using apps to update and flash.

Thank's for the condescension, I appreciate being called lazy. I might not have an encyclopedic knowledge of Everything Android, but between the knowledge I do have and the details I read on the AOKP release page, I saw nothing that indicated I _couldn't_ run LeanKernel, especially when it was only a point release on the same ROM I was previously using.
I had a look at the changelog that's available on their page. It's pretty lame. http://gerrit.sudoservers.com/#/q/status:merged,n,z that one will probably have the kernel info. A good rule of thumb is when you flash a new rom, wait until the kernel is up to date (release date). For instance, don't flash a 3/01 kernel on a 4/24 rom - wait for kernel update.
I don't recommend flashing anything with the 3.4 kernel right now. Even if you manage to pull off stability, it's still laggy and eating about 3x the battery it should. This goes for the custom kernels, too. I'll put up with stability issues, but can't deal with bad battery. Already bad enough as it is. Need my phone during the day and not near a charger.
