Hey there XDA!
I have been flashing multiple roms and etc from XDA for the last 2 years, but I never needed to ask any questions. Today, I flashed Virtuous Quattro and my camera isn't working and I can't seem to find any info about this in the ROM-thread and I'm not allowed to post there yet.
The rom looks awesome, everything works, except the camera.. Though it should work, I think I'm not having the right kernel for it, but I can't find which kernel is good for it.
Does anyone now how to fix this? or is this kernel-related? My kernel is: 2.6.35-14-MDJ-AOSP-v5-gef05671 -dirty [email protected] #6
Thanks peeps.
The latest kernel always comes with the build so it's not that. In case you haven't noticed all ICS based ROMs have camera issues. The camera on RC3 works, not great, but it's ok for bow. You should wipe properly and read more

I think it's my camera-user-data conflicting. I'll try.
I had posted a partially working camera on Lords ICS rom and I would post here for ya but I am not near my computer. The camera still has glitches but it doesn't open with a black screen anymore.

I have been flashing multiple roms on my DHD too and I have sold all the different issues till now - after flashing Virtuous Quattro my camera isn't working (opens with a black screen); also, I can't load any of the HD videos (even on awesome Dice player).
May be this will help.

Virtuous Quattro and all ICS ROMs at present have issues with the camera and HD video playback. It's because the devs don't have official ICS camera drivers from HTC to work with, which makes it really difficult.

There is a new post in the developments section for a fix of the camera for RC3, check it out
Credits to youngd24
Virtuous Quattro RC3 has a camera bug of the black
screen until first first snap. Here's the fix.
Steps :
1) Get Root explorer, then go to system/app
and make a backup of the old camera (just in case).
2) Replace the old Camera.apk with the attached Camera.apk below.
3) Edit the permissions. Check Read for all and Write only for
Owner.
4) Exit and Reboot.
i refer to the post by kkrazzyyguy
the poor thing that when i used es file explore , i chose category to system application, i saw nothing !
so my question is
can i copy his attachment and paste over? i worry will be getting prb after..
Yes just paste it over, it works fine after that

Just a quick question?
Why isn't the camera working?
OK I know it might sound like a stupid question but what I'm trying to get is what's behind the problem and how far off are the devs?
Missing drivers, incompatible code...what?
i hope there will be some more working camera at RC4
Check out Angel Cam. Its free from the Market and has no artifact or glitches at all. Also, if you only need it for basic recording, videocam illusion (also free in the market) works to replace the camcorder.
I'm also getting the black screen when using the camera, but luckily I have camera zoom fx which works fine. Loving the rom though by the way.

lol nice - I don't suppose anyone knows if it works on a xoom yet?
I'll be annoyed if it does as my other half wanted to skype to her friend but we had no camera other than the xoom and now I got a camera for her laptop as I couldn't convince them both to use googletalk
I bet Skype is still buggy though.

Yep. Major buggy. Couldn't get vid to work, mute and speaker buttons not working. Still have to sign in and out everytime otherwise it constantly runs (not a bug, I know, but a bloody big annoyance). Uninstalled to an earlier version.
i'd use gtalk if i had friends on gtalk... then again i have no friends on skype either
i'm still not big on the whole video chat to be honest anyway!
It's still got issues. Having to sign in and out all the time. Having to type password each time. Some online contacts don't show for ages. Getting missed calls without so much as a ring. But so far video was very good but as expected big drain on battery due to screen on(video) and skype seemingly running in background.
Overall I'm happier. Now where is that conversion kit to use the back camera as a front camera. What came of the OneMoreFace concept. We could do with something like that nowish.

tried it from my Desire (froyo) to an iPhone/skype.
I received the video from their end, but couldn't send out my video signal :-(
I'm on Reflex S and its no good, my video initializes but then as soon as call is answered, blank screen it just goes black, but I can still receive theirs....
Tried it today, didn't receive nor i could send my video.. Quite dissapointing, but fingers crossed they fix it soon.
Has anyone tried this on the stock 2.3. It didnt work for me.
I tried this on skype this morning managed to get it to work. Seems to look alright on the computer over Wifi. Havent tried over 3G yet. Audio quality does need improving though, but the video seemed alright, a bit slow but alright.
I can report that using InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.0.9, the new Skype version does not allow video for me.
I use instead the patched version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16323558&postcount=1028
version 0.6 based on the previous version.
seems to work really fine once you set the resolution to Force 320 X 240.
Cheers

it doesnt work for me either on IC 1.0.9
i think maybe cause its is an Ace S based rom (DHD i think ?)
Yup, I have Insertcoin 1.09 using latest v06 snq kernel and it seems not working.
works for me here with plain IC 1.0.9 and using v0.6 of the skype mod (not Kernel), but need to set the camera option to "force 320x240" otherwise it will not work.
Nice news, i will give it a try shortly
On my desire with CM7 new skype is not working properly. I can't send video.

It worked for me either instead of version from the Market, but the phone unexpectedly rebooted two times. I guess it's some kind of a bug.
The most strange of all that I was not using the phone at that moment. Well I've uninstalled patched version and now I'm waiting for the next official release from the Market.
I have a question. Does anyone know if you're able to run the stock camera from the Incredible 2 rom on CM7? If so, can someone running rooted stock Incredible 2 upload the APK? If not, can someone suggest a better camera than the CM7 camera?
Thanks

You cannot. The framework is different from an AOSP Rom vs a Sense Rom. Many people hate it because that vanilla camera In CM7 is ugly lol

I was afraid it was a sense based camera. I guess the only other option is dealing with MIUI or this ****ty CM7 camera. It's fine except I'm one that hates random flashes of different colors come across my screen so when the green flashes, it bugs the living hell out of me lol.
How are you liking the Sensation 2.0 rom and the dirty chad kernel? Also, your 225 radio you have installed, does it work better than the 622 radio? I seem to get no reception on mine and I live close to a tower lol.
Yea, that camera IS the reason I do not use AOSP roms

I love it, the smoothest so far for me. And the kernel is one he posted for another ROM, it just happens to work fine for this one. Charges faster and has profiles you can change as far as governors and voltage modifications.

MIUI camera isn't too bad and there's a flashable version of it floating around here somewhere (compatible with CM7). My question would be around photo quality. Would a picture taken with a stock phone look the same as a photo taken with the MIUI camera (in 8mp mode) if printed out? It seems the sense camera is optimized for our resolution, but is overall picture quality any worse with MIUI? or does it have to do with the hardware?

It's an APK file so that means it is either installable or if that's not the case, you place it in /system/app and set the permission correctly
Permissions: can be set with root explorer
Owner - read, write, execute
Group - read
Others - read
The APK one should have working FFC capabilities. I've tried it out before starting this thread and it works great and looks very similar to the stock camera, except for the fact that when you take a picture, the screen flashes green which I can't stand. It's annoying but it does take pictures of the same quality as the AOSP camera. The other issue with the camera is that when the camera shows whatever it does, it is stretched, yet when you take the picture, it fixes itself and takes a normal picture. Quirky, but still works.

I'm worried that if I try to flash the stock radio that I would brick the phone because the stock radio is for Froyo FW and CM7 is Gingerbread. lol

This is the Miui camera I use with CM 7.
Since I couldn't really see any need of wanting to use the stock camera, I renamed the apk to "camera" and replaced the stock camera app in the system folder, changed the permissions/ownership and good to go. (I did make a .bak of the stock CM 7 for a just in case moment)
I like the Miui camera app. I didn't have FFC with it though. I do though now using the latest Miui Rom though...

I assume your referring to camera's? If so, I prefer the Miui camera over the CM 7 camera.
As far as rom preference, I like both, but currently I'm using Miui.
When taking photos using the Miui camera on the Miui rom, the only thing that flashes green is just the viewfinder box. The actual screen just goes black.
I'd have to flash back to CM 7 to see if the camera flashes the screen green or not. I don't remember now if it did or didn't. I don't think it did, but I don't want to say that it didn't without checking...
I flashed MIUI earlier and it seemed nice, a little different than what I'm used to in CM7, but what I did notice that I absolutely dislike is that 1) I tried to restore back to CM7 and when going through the ROM manager, it said that my phone was essentially not rooted anymore (more specifically that superuser permissions wasn't giving ROM manager the permissions and I went into SU and checked and it was installed, updated, and was supposed to be giving permissions where it needed to be), and 2) Whenever you drag an icon off the screen to remove the icon, it only wants to uninstall the app. Other than that, it seems like a decent ROM.
Yup, the last couple of updates to Miui has had to have the permissions set on SU. Don't know what happened that it has to be that way. It didn't used to be that way.
I also don't care to much for the Miui Launcher, and it's unremovable apps (you can make folders though, and place the apps in there, but still not quite what I like). To Iphone for me... I use the Adw ex launcher (same that I use on CM 7)
Really, my version of Cm 7 and Miui are almost twins... Basically the only diff is in the menus and a few cosmetics.
CM 7 on the left, Miui on the right...
Holy ****! Finally someone else that has this same problem!

Hi all,
Facing a problem with my gps 'n' hope you can help:
When launching an apk like AugSatNav or IOnroad, the gps signal keeps cutting and remains on searching.
Only when heading back to normal navigation, the signal comes back....
I think the link is the combination camera+gps (since A/R), but have no solution.
HTC support simply indicates that there's no problem with my gps, great help....
Thanks for your feedback.

No there is no one click rom install but with enough reading it is very simple

Hi Dutch, I have the same problem, I'm trying to video my cycle commute (sick of being near-missed by cars). None of the apps I have tried will allow GPS to work while recording video. Daily Roads states the following, which is the clearest description of the issue i have found [at dailyroads.com/voyager/issues]
"GPS issues on the HTC Desire HD - a GPS fix can not be acquired, or is quickly lost. There seems to be a camera/GPS conflict on the hardware/firmware level in this phone, as all video recording applications affect the GPS signal. Suggested fix: disable GPS in the app's General settings (feature available only starting with version 1.6)."
Not a great help, I know, but at least an indication that there may be nothing we can
do! As my first post I'm a bit wary of noobing the bosses (having watched their very funny video - everyone should have one!) I will poke about a bit more. let me know if you find anything!

[Q] Are GPS and videorecording compatible ?
Hi, txs for the thread indeed. Txs to Robert found a walkaround being the usage of an external b/t gps.
This works (at least for me).
By the way, no realistic answer from HTC: don't use third party apps, just the preinstalled htc ones and you won't face problems .....

Anyone find a better fix for this issue?
Hi, my GPS also had issues than i used the app GpsFix
and than it worked a lot smoother for me. But I only tested it on the original 2.3.3 rom without root.
The issue is not that gps does not work but that it will not work while the camera is on.

This seems to be the most commonly askes question in all the ICS and JB threads. If you search through the Desire HD development forums (fora???) you'll see evry single ROM with ICS and JB has camera issues of one kind or another. Some of them have a semi-working camera, some can record video without sound, but up til now, none at all work completely. There is also an issue as to which camera chip is in your phone, different regions/countries/networks seem to have different cameras, and I haven't yet seen anyone post a definitive guide to what is where, and what works with each ROM. All I can suggest is read all the posts in the ICS dev threads, make a backup of your current ROM and flash away until you find the one that works best for you. A lot of people are hopeful that the newer Jellybean ROMS will be fully functional shortly, but for now, if a working camera is a must, stick to Gingerbread and use an ICS theme with a launcher like ADW or GO.
cloogy aka Max aka That drunken fat bloke who just stole my beer
Hi guys.. I finally installed jellybean on the phone, but there was some issues regarding some crucial(for me) functionalities of the phone;
Mainly the camera, It takes pictures with the green thing of course (I don't mind this one), It shoots videos with focusing and all, but it doesn't really shoot 30fps (I tried apps like lg camera and camera ics but it's all the same). There was some talk here about changing some system configuration file to make the camera shoot in 26fps, but that doesn't seem to be making any sense... Now the second thing is third party apps that use the camera, as for example camscanner that has some weird issues inside of it.. I open the program, I switch to batch mode(this one takes a lot of pictures), I take the first image which goes normally but after that all I see is what I had taken, I can take new images, but there is no preview(and no focusing). Notice that this app worked in gb, and had no problems, And that the whole range of apps that shoot multiple images has the same problem (handy scanner for example) . So did any one get around those issues... I heard that CM9 is better so can anyone confirm if camscanner is working there (the batch mode), Or maybe if someone is using a different one that doesn't have those issues ; These are really some serious drawbacks to the available custom roms, So I think they should have been at least mentioned.
Thanks in advance !
Dude you should really read what Arco said about the SGW camera in CM before claiming it´s not working that well like in GB. It´s a dirty hack to make it work at all so it will also not work well with all the camera apps out there. In CM9 its working a bit better than in CM10 but regarding smoothness and compability with other apps it´s about the same. So you are not telling us something new and everyone who is using CM9 or CM10 is also aware of this.
So if this is a big issue for you, flash back to GB and use this instead.

Thanks for the response. I myself noticed that the camera even in CM10 is faster than stock, except for some issues... However someone just confirmed to me that the issue that I'm talking about here is present in cm9 too, so it seems that the camera is the same in all avaiable cyanogenmods for this phones !
