Importing Galaxy Nexus from Amazon.de - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi, i have been thinking about upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus from a HTC Desire.
Now im looking at purchasing one from Amazon.de as its 495.00 EUR, which works out at around £414 + £7 shipping, compared to the £450 Amazon.co.uk want for it.
I know the one from Amazon.de will have a European charger, however i presume it just charges with a Micro USB cable, so i could just use my PC to charge like i always did with the Desire?
Also for anyone who purchased one in Germany is any text on the back of the phone in English or German?
If anyone could answer either question that would be great
Thanks very much.

Only stuff written on the phone is "Google" and "Samsung".

Thanks for the quick reply!

I got mine instore at Cex. It had never been even set up. I got the first ever update pushed as soon as I put my SIM in. Cex usually offer 5% discount for cash purchases so I got mine for about £413, which to me is a better situation than buying from Amazon as within the first year I have warranty options with both Cex (for a direct exchange if I have any faults) or Samsung (if Cex don't happen to have any in stock). Also with Cex I can exchange to the purchased value within twelve months, so if mine happened to break in four months and the S3 is a preferable phone I can simply add my £413 to the cost of the swap. I think I just got lucky to find one at my local store though.

I ordered it 11:30pm Monday night from Amazon.de, it arrived at my house around 9am Friday morning from what i'm told.
Very happy with the phone! Got the OTA Update to 4.0.2, then unlocked the bootloader and rooted!
Everything is great, impressed with the battery life compared with my Desire too, got over 4 hours (screen on) on with its first charge. The camera is not bad at all to be honest, not really sure why it got hammered in the reviews. Yes they might be slightly better cameras out there on other devices, but tbh i didn't buy the phone for the camera. The pictures are great for a mobile device, as is the video recording. My personal oppinnion is its a great all rounder device that is going to be a good mobile for the next 2+ years.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing that you did and importing a nexus from amazon.de
Just have a few questions,
how did you find the setup process? Was it in german or was it in english?
Also did you get stung with any taxes / surcharges?

Where to buy Rhodium without contract in UK

Where can i buy Rhodium without Contract in UK. I buy HTC touch HD without contract at Carphone before but just wonder if i can buy Rhodium there too ^^. My house is quite far from it so i dont have time to go there to ask -_-
Not sure where the best buy is at the moment
Check places like Devicewire, Expansys, Clove, and Handtec I suspect they will be cheaper than Carphone Warehouse. There was a thread here about prices, but not sure if it's still active.
Good Luck!
Gordon
Hit google with the UK only radio button. There's 1000+1 places to buy from. I got mine from launch at Amazon.co.uk
The good things from carphone is u can go there to check if there is something like dead pixel on the fone before make decisions.
Last time when i bought my HD there it took me only 450 GBP for the fone while i checked at clove it was around 500 GBP -_-.
#3: I know how to search man -_-
Try eBay.
oh man ebay is not different from the other online site. If u buy it and u get smt like dead pixel on the screen u have to send it back -_-
I got mine from http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/ £434 on voda pay2go. For some reason it was cheaper than simfree. Phone is not branded or locked as using with my 3 sim.
That's a pretty good deal from mpd ... only problem I'd have with buying from them is that I've heard nightmare stories about people having probs with the phone, and mpd won't have anything to do with them...
For Sale Touch Pro 2 - Vodafone Branded
I currently got a touch pro 2 on vodafone as an upgrade but the wife had already bought me one offline.
So it is up for grabs for £375 plus £5.00 to cover royal mail registered post.
cash to be paid ia bank transfer or paypal. If paypal used then buyer to pay paypal charges.
How about handtech which advertise on xda forum. I found it quite cheap only 438 with simfree
the problem with a lot of uk sites these days is their quality control. i always buy sim free and hate it when the "new" phone arrives in an opened box, factory screen protector half off etc.. they do a **** job of putting it all back in the box after "checking contents".
i used to buy from Play but their prices aren't competitve any more and no confirmed despatch date.
try King of Gadgets. all their stuff is factory sealed and there's a really good bloke over the phone who wont muck you about.
good luck.

Thank u very much ^^ . And about handtec ? Do u have any info about them ?
no experience sorry. but I'm always weary of low prices. I think with them you still have to pay a fair amount for next day delivery. over the last few years I've learnt the hard way there's no such thing as a bargain
i've just chatted with them online and they told me that i don't have to pay any fee for nextday delivery but the problem for the dead pixel is. HTC only accepts to replace fone with more than 3 deadpixels -_- .
Handtec sell brand new and sealed phones but they are gray imports meaning no automatic network settings and detection and probably some warranty issues. This was the experience I had when I bought a Kaiser from them and when I returned it and asked for a UK spec, they simply sent the same phone back to me in a UK spec box (lol). I returned it and did a charge back when they started trying to act funny. Devicewire sell UK spec phones at the most competitive prices in my opinion.
Seriously boss. You can buy from anyone of these sellers and if you're not happy, dead pixel or otherwise then you can send it back with no obligation citing distance selling act. The common vendors like expansys, amazon etc are all good for it. Pick someone whom you trust and pull the trigger!
thank you very much. Maybe i will try with clove.co.uk kkkk

[Q] Any SIM free offers in the UK?

Hi all,
has anybody seen the GN on offer in the UK - sim free?
Broke my HTC and have seen their latest flagship phone has issues, so would rather switch to the Nexus
Thanks in advance
Got mine here a month ago, dont think theres anywhere cheaper.
Mine was a euro version so no uk usb charger but i wasnt bothered,

I got mine off amazon back in Jan, was easiest/cheapest way to get a sim free phone that I could find here at the time. But it would appear that it's not offered directly through Amazon - just resellers now there. So depending if that's your cup of tea or not, still have that route.
Not sure which carriers offer it still in store - but I believe if you bought outright off Vodafone, they'll give you the unlock code immediately (up to a 7 day wait maybe though?).
O2 policy was a year, and I think 3 might've been three months.
Pretty sure its not stocked in most stores in the uk now,
I got mine from the reseller Top T through amazon and they were very good, dispatched and delivered within 3 days. Free delivery also.
Thanks folks.....
I'm gutted. I almost bought the white one on ebay the other day, but opted for the HTC One X (this was before I read the bad reviews) and the bugger ripped me off with my cash.
So waiting for Paypal to get my refund sorted.
The white one on ebay was new and only went for £227
Would you recommend it?
Only because I could upgrade early with Orange for about £300 and get the S3?
I'm just not keen at all on that touchwiz poo,lol
That sucks, i like the onex but i have heard some bad things about it.
Just a personal thing but i'd never buy a phone from ebay anyways.
Grab the Gnex from amazon for £316 and you'll be happy
Edit: SGS3 is a beast, i've played with one and the touchwiz isnt all that bad. Plus the custom roms will be coming soon.
Down to personal preference really, i cam from iphone so anythings better!
Yeah, I've heard it's good,lol....
That's why I'm a bit undecided
Argggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Decisions, decisions!
I would go for the nexus, buy it outright then you're not going into another long contract, if you dont get on with it down the line you still have an upgrade to use and you can sell your nexus.
That's what I was thinking....
They're all going to start competing with quad cores now and in a few months the SG3 will be bottom of the list....
Nexus it is....
Thanks for your help!

Official Nexus Wireless Charger available in UK Play Store

The Official Wireless Charger is finally available in the Play store in the UK for £34.99 (but with £10.99 shipping...)
I have just ordered one and it says ships in 1 to 2 days. Nice.
I am looking for wireless charger, but £46 is little bit too much. Pass

Ordered mine today, I've been waiting since the n4 orb - but happy to have this one. I want to see what the magnets are like, I'm hoping I don't have to fight with it too much!
SO tempted to buy one today...
Is there anywhere you can buy it on the high street to avoid the excessive shipping cost? Was annoyed enough about having to pay a tenner to ship the phone itself. Would have ordered both at the same time if i'd known

Tell me about it - I almost bought an LG QuickCover from the Play Store the other week so that would have been almost £33 on shipping given the phone and the wireless. The annoying thing is that if they were all available on launch day I would have bought them all at once saving myself £22...
Anyways, I found the QuickCover for £34.99 on MobileFun with only £2.99 delivery and I have voucher code for £5 off next order so this made it under £30 delivered.
You can also order the Nexus Wireless Charger from there but they don't have it in stock and they are charging £49.99 for the pre-order...

Haha yeah for an O2 XDA Mini S back in the day. Then posted infrequently about each new phone i've had. How about you?
I went to cancel the order of the phone to add a wireless charger and it said I couldn't as it was already being processed for shipping. Then got my email confirmation. When I ordered a couple of hours ago it said the black 32gb would take 2-3 weeks to leave the warehouse!

I think their shipping estimates are pretty conservative. You should love the phone when it arrives - definitely the best I've had.
I was only writing up my phone history the other day:
2013 LG Nexus 5
2012 LG Nexus 4 (1st Nexus)
2012 HTC One X
2011 Samsung Galaxy SII (1st Android)
2010 Apple iPhone 4
2009 Nokia N900 (1st that was actually a computer)
2008 Apple iPhone 3G (1st iPhone)
2007 Nokia N95 (1st with decent camera)
2006 HTC TyTn
2006 HTC Universal (1st with VGA display)
2005 HTC Magician (1st Windows Mobile & reason I joined XDA)
2004 Nokia 7610 (1st with 1MP camera)
2004 Nokia 6600 (1st Symbian)
2003 Nokia 7250 (1st with a camera)
2002 Sony Ericsson T68 (1st with colour display)
2000 Nokia 8210
1999 Nokia 3210
Why do Google's P&P charges seem inversely proportional to the item cost? A nexus 5 should cost more to ship than a quick cover, you would think?
It's a money-making exercise as when I bought my Nexus 5 and bumper case I paid for one lot of postage. No doubt if I'd waited until now to get this as well I'd still only be paying one lot of £10.99
Having said that, I'm still gonna get one - maybe two - of these...
I just noticed in the description
What's in the box
Nexus Wireless Charger
9W 1.8A AC Adaptor (For use in the United States and Canada only)
I'm hoping that's just Google being lazy updating the website. Can whoever gets one of these in the UK confirm what adapter comes with it?
I hesitated when I saw the delivery charge but have been waiting for this so I thought what the hell and ordered one.... looking forward to getting it

Here in Germany the sentence is translated into German, but it still says 'for use in USA and Canada only'... Weird...
-> "Netzteil mit 9 W, 1,8 A AC (nur zur Verwendung in Kanada und den USA)"
---- EDIT ----
I just reached the German Google support hotline and the guy from Google told me, that we all get the US/Canada Adapter and have to buy a converter or something like that ourself...
I asked Google why P&P gets cheaper when the item gets bigger and heavier, and their reply was that Parcelforce set the charges, and Google have no say in it.

I hope that's not true!
Just received shipping notification so will find out soon enough.
Received shipping notification myself earlier so should see tomorrow if the correct adaptor is included - will not be happy if it comes with US plug!

[Q] Best Place for User in the US to Buy an Unlocked Z1 Compact From?

How's everybody doing?
I'm looking to order an unlocked Z1 Compact either tonight or tomorrow and am wondering the best and most reliable sites to purchase from?
Also, I imagine I lose the Sony warranty with an unlocked Compact because it's not available in the US market right?
Is it a wise idea to buy a SquareSoft 2 year warranty from Ebay or Amazon? I've been trying to research them and am getting mixed results including a lot of complaints of them scamming and semi-scamming on claim attempts, but often the bad reviews and experiences are the loudest and most glaring.
Anybody have experience with any of the following re-sellers?
Negri Electronics
Wireless Everything(through Amazon)
Cells4U
Techno Trading House(through Ebay)
Never-MSRP(through Ebay)
Open to other suggestions of well of course, but I really need to get this in by say Monday, so not looking for any super long wait international shippers unless the price and reliability of the seller was superb, but even then any issues probably mean international return shipping on my dime so I'm a little sketchy on those options.
Sony won't sell them direct to US customers...
Thanks in advance guys, really excited to get this phone!
Expansys USA
Hands down the best site for us customers ...
I got 4 phones from them and all came in sealed
Box all accessories and US wall adapter....
I got mine from Amazon.com, seller My-Wish-List. No complaints. Not sure on warranty but I wouldn't expect much from Sony even if bought legitimately. I was counting on Amazon.com to back me up if the phone was DOA.

No doubt, hands down the best I've purchased from is Clove. I have purchased two phones from them, the first needed some repair, and they were very good about facilitating the process and getting it back to me. No need to look elsewhere.
Hi, here in Singapore,it actually sells for about 500USD so i would consider it a good bargain.
Thanks everybody. I ordered the phone about a half hour ago from Amazon, went with Wireless Everything.
Ordered a case, some tempered glass screen protectors and a cheap rubber case.
Think I might wind up with a Devil Case once they drop them for the Compact if it will fit over the screen protector.
Really excited to get this, I'm coming from a REALLY old phone that had died and came back to life so many times it was basically a zombie.

Good luck. You're going to love this phone. I have nothing but good to say about it. (except I see it's about $20 less now than when I ordered it)
What carrier are you on? I'm on T-Mobile and both H+ and LTE work perfectly.

I am also on T-Mobile. Been using a HTC G2 that was almost 4 years old before it perma-bricked about 2 weeks ago and have been using a BB Bold borrowed from a friend since then while I've been deciding what phone to go with and from where.
I ordered from Expansys Canada but the phone shipped out the States. When it came the box had been opened and a charger adaptor was included. Maybe should have gone through Amazon. Phone is working well but had to manually put the Rogers Canada APN in. Great phone though.

For what it's worth I contacted USA xperia support and asked them about this. They said that it doesn't matter if the unit is not available to purchase in USA, and that I have a 1 year warranty on my phone that would be honored in a sony usa service center. I have my doubts about the quality of the service but it sounds like at least we're not stuck with no warranty at all.

I have my Z1 compact in for repair at Sony, and they don't sell it in my country.
Sony said that they would repair it, but no guarantees on the turnaround time. It's usually 14 days. business days.
That's for phones that they repair all the time. They said that they may have to send the phone out to a diff repair center in another country.
I got a lemon where the Z1 would sometimes detected my sim, and sometimes not. Faulty sim card contacts in the phone or something like that.I'm chalking it up to bad luck.

Nexus 7 (2013) availability in UK

My old first gen Nexus 7 has the dodgyist usb socket ever. So I'd like to replace it with a Nexus 7 (2013 model) because it has QI charging. Has anyone had any luck lately buying a new UK or EU model Nexus 7 32gb in the UK? Or does anyone know of any legit online shops selling them? And yes I know this is a long shot & yes I have used google.
BT shop. Looks like it's the last one.
http://www.shop.bt.com/products/asus-new-nexus-7--2013--32gb-2gb-wifi-android-4-3-8XCD.html
In the last 3 months I've bought 3 from Cash Converters and 1 from Computer Exchange.
All of them have been around £100 and in practically mint condition. All four are going strong with no issues. If you want that piece of mind, buy from Computer Exchange as they give you a 1 year warranty.
I cant see any reason in buying this tablet for £238 new on the BT website. If it was 2013, £238 wouldn't be a bad deal. 2015 on the other hand, hell no.
I got mine from Asda in the black friday sales, they still have them in the two big Asda stores near me. The sale price was £140 but they usually sell them for £200

Sadly it was only the 16gb model they had.
Pretty sure argos still have them, that's where I got mine from last year, I don't really recommend buying from there if your the kind of person who breaks stuff a lot tho, since you can't take it back unless it's faulty
