Hello,
I was wondering if someone has a "custom GAPPS" package...Basically, I tried deleting some files in the gapps package but could not get some things to work properly, like market. I do not need all the extras like google+ and all that junk. I just need gmail, market and whatever else is mandatory to have in order to function. I've googled and searched this on here but no prevail...
Thanks!
I have created just a basic Google Apps package... nothing available on the Market and everything needed to set up a Google account on the phone... it's what I use... hope it fits your need

Awesome. I'll try it today. Seems like a smaller file already. Thanks! Yeah just need Gmail to work and market. Never use any of that other stuff like Google+ or Google messenger. Anyway thanks again I'll try it out.

Hi,
I'm new to android and modding in general. I've flashed AOKP + gapps on my device. Some of the gapps would not appear in my app drawer no matter how many times I reflashed them, so I installed them manually from the market. The problem is this is not working for Google Music, it does not show up in the market on my device, if I browse to it on the market website, it says that Google Music is not compatible with my device because it is not available in my country (I'm in Canada) which makes no sense since the device shipped with the Music app installed on stock image. Anyone know how I can get it to work?
Thanks
Although the app ships with it if Google Music isn't available in your country you can't download it from the Market. Same with here in the UK
Google search the APK and install it via a file manager on the phone
Install the gapps listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484457
Good luck
oh ok, I tried faking the market to a USA one and it still didn't work. I downloaded the apk and installed it manually and it's working.
One question though, shouldn't the AOKP or the gapps that I flashed already mean I should had got it without trying to download it from the market? do you know why some of those gapps like maps, navigation, etc did not show up at all until I downloaded them myself?

Important: New Gapps package is bare, so there is no legal trouble for anyone. Please do not ask us to include any extra apps. A wipe is required. I'm sorry if it's missing some apps not available in your country via the Market, but that's the exact reason we cannot include them in the package. This means Google Wallet is no longer included in. It will still work, but you must add it yourself. Thanks for your understanding.
Build 22 is still 4.0.3. Every single build and milestone is built directly from source. As such, we must wait for Google to release sources for 4.0.4. After that, we'll be working day and night to merge the new changes and bring you the latest!

Something even MORE barebone than stock.
Like even stock has what I consider to be "bloatware"
IE: Currents, Google+, Google Hangout, etc.
What I want is something devoid of all that, and lets me tweak around with basic UI settings. I don't need those fancy pie launchers and halo whatevers.
Build it and it will exist.
I assume you are running a maguro?

Currents, Google+, hangouts doesn't come with stock 4.3 unless you already had them installed you have to download those from play store to get them, not getting what u mean by bloatware, Google made all their apps available in play store now instead of making them system apps so you can simply add them or remove them like any other app without needing root an titanium.

Yes I am, and I don't know how. I wish I had the time to learn.

I installed this guy:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882248
It says "stock", but I got the whole slew of google apps.
I flashed 4.3 Google image direct from Google developer site not someone else's custom 4.3 rom, why not just uninstall the Google apps you don't want then with titanium backup instead of a whole new rom, doesn't get more simpler than that.

Yes , easy to do with a toolkit, those Google apps your talking about with the rom you tried are because you flashed the gapps zip which install all that Google stuff, that's all gapps is for to install all the popular Google play store apps which are not necessarily needed.
So just to clarify, you want a stock 4.3 deodexed rooted ROM without Google apps (and you can flash Banks' minimal gapps for the absolutely necessary stuff like Play Store)? Then even if you don't know how to write code, you just need to sync the source and build. Deodex guides abound. Very little skill required. I know, since I build unofficial codefireXs with no skill whatsoever.
You can make the build system build deodexed, no need to deodex later.

If you really want stock (and less) try Slimbean. When you dont flash the google apps you will also lose the ability to get notifications automatically pushed. Eventhough it's still in alpha, the battery is excellent.
Hi, I am new to modding but have managed to install LineageOS bundled with MicroG onto my Moto G (2015) (LineageOS 'osprey' build).
I now want to install Google Maps only via the least painful method with the absolute minimum contact with the Google ecosystem.
I tried OpenGApps but it seems to have a lot of crud that I don't want. I tried installing Playmaker via TWRP but it said the zip file was an 'invalid zip format'.
Is there any method directly via an apk or some such or will I have to use a repository of some kind? In either case could someone please advise on the best way to proceed?
Thanks kindly in advance!

Thanks very much fella, went with Yalp, works a charm!
Someone else has the problem of gyroscope \ wrong direction with gmaps and microG?
Lol.
Dont use microg.
Dont use gapps.
Dont use google maps.
Open your webbrowser (preffer bromite) and then go to google.maps.com or whatever the site is...
No need to install things that can also be accessed via a browser...
Open Street Maps (osmand) is opensource and excellent. All maps are downloaded locally and as long as you have a GPS fix, it works without a cell connection. (assuming you have the maps). The database (addresses) is not as refined as others but works well and avoids using G and F.
https://osmand.net/
Of course they have G and Amazon app store links. Avoid that, if you contact them they might give you a download link for their apk after payment on amazon. Did not have to install the Amazon app store, just used them for payment.
Open street maps also has a website.
https://www.openstreetmap.org/
@Privacydroid is right-on, don't install apps you have not examined for their network activity. Especially if you can access on a browser (some of which can be configured to block useless domains).
Having been impressed by Nougat on my wife's tablet I decided to flash mine: so far so good and OK with Gapps.
But I would like to be able to sync with my Google account and access Playstore etc. as I can't find many of the apps I use on other sites.
I have tried various versions of Play Services which install but do not seem to work all with prefix 40040
Any advice gratefully received.
Or should I just reload Kit Kat ?? Is that possible and where would I get basic apps.
Thanks in advance
Nick

Hi, I'm getting back into ROMs after not looking at this forum since the Galaxy S (seriously). I want a ROM without Google baked into it. I see a few ROMs suggesting "dirty build" or optional installation of GAPPs. Do these ROMs actually provide an AOSP build without Google running in the background (play services, etc.)?
Basically, I'm looking for a ROM on my Nexus5x that doesn't track me back through Google (most stable, don't really care about speed/themes). Trying to get away from Google as much as possible due to their constant data mining, and I think this is the only way. Total NEWB here, I did use the search function, but I ran into a bunch of thread that didn't seem directly related.
I think that you are looking for LineageOs (ex CyanogenMod). You can install it without Google apps, so no play services, no Google account required, etc..
