Google/Navigation talking over Earpiece - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Google maps and Navigation announces its next moves over the phones earpiece even if the phone is in use. It will talk over or through the phone. This also happens to some music applications. Can this be resolved? It is very annoying.

I'm guessing it is working as intended, since they wouldn't want you to miss your exit.
You can turn of the sound on navigation all together though.

I understand. I thought when the phone is being used it has priority on the earpiece. This is how it worked on gingerbread.

Even on Gingerbread I've had directions barked in me in my ear while on the phone.

Pressing messaging gives me another app?

Anyone else seeing this?
Today whenever I press the messaging icon I get the last app I had open instead.
Very strange.
just go back that's happened with my Mytouch 4G

Saw friend's Nexus do that. Very strange. Back fixed it for him too.

Yup. I've seen this too.

I've seen this with Google Music. I've force stopped and cleared data but the problem randomly comes back and I dont know whats triggering it

For me, the best working solution is to press multitasking button and swipe away all the apps.

Thats what i did too
At first i tried to open my music, it opened my google voice instead :/ but thats the temporarily solution i suppose :/
This has not gone away. Even if I try to access messaging from the app drawer or recent app list it doesn't work. Hitting back cycles through other apps, does not help. The only way to access messaging is through the people app or through a notification.

Try rebooting it?
Like someone said, swipe away all the recent apps.

Text-to-Speech + Wifi only Notifications

Are there any working Text-to-Speech apps out yet for ICS?
Also, is there a way to only receive notifications from certain apps ONLY when a wifi connection is on? I want to save my data.
I don't see why existing TTS engines wouldn't work - I use SVOX classic on ICS, just as I did on Gingerbread.
It's only a free trial and the comments said it didn't work on ics. I'll keep searching
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Received answer on wifi question. Anyone regarding the TTS? I'm wondering if I should move this question to the development thread..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Any updates on when TTS will be available for ICS? I can't find anything on it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Google has had TTS built in for a long time. What are you trying to do... just change the voice?

Go into data usage, look at your apps that use most data an click on it. Select a limit for data usage an click restrict data. Great feature of ICS

I'm trying to have my texts read out loud to me when they come in but it doesn't work. It only works when I turn "talk back" on but then my phone speaks everything, lol.

Download Vlingo from the market. Put it in in car mode. Turn on safe reader. It'll stay on now until you turn it off. Your prayers have been answered.

In car mode is on and safe reader is on but it still won't read out loud automatically... Please help!!! Lol.. Do I have to disable ringtone or something? My default messaging application is Handcart if that makes a difference.

Handcent* Sorry

4.2 speaker volume

Is anyone having problems with the galaxy nexus speaker when playing music? It seems like it plays music quitter than on 4.1.2. I checked the volume through settings and its at its max.
Anyone know of a good volume boost app, I've tried a few and they don't really do anything.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I believe the only way you can boost the volume is by installing a custom rom like cyanogenmod.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
you could flash awesome beats, that works pretty good, but i have actually noticed an increase in volume since 4.2
Same. I also discovered that any adjustment to the equalizer diminishes the volume. This was not the case on 4.1.2. I was also benefitting from the Volume+ app but it does not serve its purpose now.

Hopefully there will be a flashable zip that will fix this, if there's enough people having this problem.

me too..cant even hear the ringer if anyone calls..

Finally an in call landscape screen

Thank you Google, better late than never.
How is that even remotely necessary? The earpiece is on the top of the phone and the mic on the bottom.
When in the car dock.

Hey I am also running 4.2... but my call screen is still stuck in portrait. Is there an option to enable it?
Thanks!
Only saw it when in car mode in the car dock.
Not sure how to get into it any other way.

There is a car mode enabling app in play store just don't remember how it's called. This will make stock launcher and dialer rotate as well as apps list

I did it with an app called Rotation Lock (Adaptive) just select the option that says Force Auto.

I'm far from an expert I'll admit but pretty sure here in UK where I took the picture its 'Dialling' more often than 'Dialing', therefore correct.
Maybe not the same on the other side of the pond as per many other words.

"Dialling" is correct. "Dialing" is an alternate spelling.

I didn't get 4.2.2 but I did get the "side bar" thing. It seemed kinda cool at 1st, but it's gotten rather annoying. I get the dual Window option but don't see the practicality for my use. I'd love input if anyone has any.

But what it *still* doesn't have (or, at least, I haven't found it yet) is the ability to go into Navigation, hit the "map" button, and watch the arrow follow your route, without needing to punch in a destination (a "follow" mode, for lack of a better term). I actually used that on occasion, and its disappearance in Maps 7 is very disappointing.

Standalone navigation apps usually include a tracking mode where you can monitor a live trace of your gps' (walked, driven or bicycled) path along the map and annotate, save and share that trace.
I'm not sure how much was included in GNav, but it has been reduced to a GMaps subset and the controls need to be relearned. Map tracing via gps seems gone for now.

Latest map updates has it, although;
It no longer had a separate Navigation Icon, Nav is part of maps with a turning arrow icon to activate
