I've my Wildfire (no carrier attached) with below details.
ROM - Stock Froyo, 2.2.1
Kernel - 2.6.32.21-g6c55ee4
Software number - 2.25.720.1
HBOOT - 1.02.0000
S-ON
My objective
To have my device rooted and then flush a custom ROM.
What I did
1. Used a RUU from htcdev and ran it (file name "PC4910000_Buzz_Froyo_hboot_1.02.0000_R3")
2. Unlocked boot loader using the process mentioned in their website (now my phone shows "UNLOCKED" in volume rocker+power button start mode)
3. Used unrEVOked 3.2/reflash package to root my phone.
Now my problem
unrEVOked did not work. Because it does not support my HBOOT version.
I have tried with revolutionary before, with no other effect.
My Question
Apart from using a goldcard, can I use another WWE RUU to get HBOOT 1.01.0000?
It could have been better option for me!! Though, I could not find a RUU with HBOOT 1.01.0000.
Since you have already unlocked your bootloader you may be able to root your phone by using gingerbreak 1.2.
I personally installed Clockworkmod recovery then installed su through clockworkmod to root my phone.
I have unlocked my phone from htcdev website.
Can you please inform me of the process that I need to follow to install Clockworkmod recovery after that?
Note: I have tried with PC49IMG.zip and booting from Volume Down+Power Button. It hung for a long time showing "parsing the file".
I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21310836&postcount=22 information from 3xeno and used the Fastboot method and got clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.0. (PC49IMG.zip method does not work)
Afterwords I made a nandroid backup from clockworkmod recovery. (just in case)
Then I downloaded http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
and installed it from clockworkmod recovery to get root.

Well, the method you followed sounds good, and I tried it.
Somehow, my phone was not detected by "fastboot" ("fastboot devices" returned nothing, so the rest of the things failed).
I downgraded my HBOOT later with Goldcard, but now can't have any recovery as my phone is not detected.
Yippee!!! Revolutionary did it for me!!
Got S-OFF, HBOOT 6.01.002.
Now I'll flash custom ROM.
Thanks
Nice to know that you were successful.

I have an rooted HTC Desire(Android 2.2 Froyo) with HBoot 0.80 which was rooted by Goldcard img. etc.
but the recovery is just temporarily and i would like to make it permanent like rooting with unrEVOked Any ideas how to?
I tried to root another time with unrEVOked over the existing but it didn't work
Unrevoked is just a tool to root, not a tool to flash a recovery. You will need to go to fastboot and use adb. Think that command is something like
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img
Here are the 2 recoveries you can use. CWM or Amon (GSM only).
Correct, you need to use fastboot (which is not the same as adb). But before you can flash via fastboot you need to be S-off.
To do so see AlphaRev in sig. Remember you are the only one responseble for you phone, no one else.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Ah right. I don't use fastboot method manually.
I had another HTC desire which I rooted with unrevoked and there the cwm recovery was linked to boot with vol down power -> recovery. If I do that on this HTC desire I end up at the normal recovery where than I have to press vol down up power and then press apply update.zip
You can flash a permanent custom recovery using unrevoked^3 when you root. You'll need the recovery .img file. The only reason it won't work is if you haven't set it up properly (plenty of guides around). You could always reflash your RUU and root through it from scratch.
------------------------------
- Sent via HTC Desire -
If it was already rooted you can try to reflash you recovery image with rom manager or put the update.zip manually back on the root of the sd. If that does not work try Unrevoked but that will not flash a permanent recovery image (fake flash), the only way to get a permanent recovery image if by using fastboot and S-off.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
That is how the OP is doing it now, albeit not from ROM Manager
You could try running unrEVOked again to flash the recovery but if this doesn't work then you'd need to go back to stock and re-root using unrEVOked
Which RUU should I flash?

How does Unrevoked not flash permanent? Unrevoked flashes the .img to your phones recovery partition - the NAND is temporarily unlocked just enough to flash to so it is like flashing the recovery with S-OFF. That's a permanent flash so every time you boot into Recovery, that's what you'll find. That's as far as I know from when Unrevoked was released (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Koushik usually supplies image files to use specifically with Unrevoked.
The .img files to use with Unrevoked are here (look for Bravo): http://mirror1.kanged.net/recoveries/

Depends on your original country/network carrier. More details to unroot can be found here as well as the RUU link:

Hi
I have a PVT4 Desire and would like to do a back-up before i s-off (which cwm doesn't do hence installing AmonRA) so i can install a custom rom. I've already rooted it so i can't use unrevoked to flash AmonRA as it says the firmware is too new. Also i've tried using terminal emulator to flash the recovery but it says flash_image:not found.
How else can i flash AmonRA?
Here is a useful how to:

use the attached update.zip as a fake flash method, it is amonra recovery 1.7.0.5. just put it on ur sd card.
push vol down+power, go into recovery and when you see the triangle push vol up+power and then you ll select flash update.zip, it will take you to amonra recovery
How many times did you run unrevoked? Sometimes you have to run it a few times before it will work.
have you tried to push it using the android flasher utility...ill find the link for it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638&highlight=android+flasher+utility
there you go mate..dont know if it works for pvt-4 ...so simple to use i used it to get amon ra because i had the same problems with unrevoked
That will not work because he is S-ON
@MatDrOiD i've tried using that method but it says flash_image: not found.
@thanito thanks for the file but when i went in to recovery and did apply sdcard:update.zip or install zip from sd card it stayed on CWM and didn't change to AmonRA.
@bailz2506 i haven't s-off'd yet i need to make a nandroid back-up first just in case before i can and CWM won't do it for the PVT4 Desire.
Isn't there a PC36IMG.zip for AmonRa for the Desire like there is with the other devices so i can do it the bootloader way?
hi mate,
at the beginning meet same problem... phone rooted but unable to do nand backup
E:misc error file doesn't exist... blablabla
i solved this by rerooting the phone with this cmw3.21 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/reflash_package3.21.exe
once done, i succesfully made a nanbck.
first i s-OFFed the devices and afterwards flash the recovery with fastboot to install Ar 2.0.1
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.1.img
hope this help sorting this
@fragargon nope that didn't work,it still stayed on the same CWM and didn't differ.
@aamir007: Do you have another update.zip file in your sd card?
Did you flash CWM through rom manager?
If so try to delete the file first and copy the one i attached you in sd root.

Don't say things that have nothing to do with this.
What you could do is return to stock. Then run Unrevoked again.
@Thanito I tried it again and deleted the existing one but still no luck
@Lennyz1988 Guess i'll have to do that. Is there any RUU i should avoid using that will update my hboot and make it unrootable. I've made a goldcard so i shouldn't have any problems flashing the RUUs.
hi aamir007,
amazing that didn't work, it was working and got a pvt4 also.
assuming that you are still on cmw (don't know your version) could you try this one
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-bravo.img
just launch unrevoked select first the menu and custom recovery (browse to the one downloaded) make sure that "disable security on phone is checked)
should get sorted of this, it was for me.
about RRu depends the rom you have settings/about phone/software you could see all current version rom and radio running on your phone which matter for rru
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
hope this help
@fragargon I tried it again and this time UnRevoked said is the firmware too new like it does when i try to use it to flash AmonRA, and still on CWM 2.5.0.7.
So i'm going to flash an RUU do i need to flash the same Baseband or lower to make sure its still rootable and the hboot doesn't change.

Try to use unrevoked 3.2 (also integrate amonra recovery) for rooting:

The ruu you flash should fit to baseband.
No warranty for any damage!
For a nandroid backup do you need S-OFF?
A friend has a PVT-4 and is using CWM and his backs up fine but he said you need to S-OFF first.

You can nandroid backup and restore without s-off.
Solved my problem, i S-Off'ed and installed the AlphaRev CWM during the process and i can preform a nandroid back-up perfectly fine
Hi,
may be its already known, but i just realized one cool thing - if u have s-off bootloader, u are still be master of your device, even if u have installed Stock RUU or OTA and lost recovery & root. You want to ask how ?
1) Take somewhere CWM image in .img format and rename it to recovery.img
2) Take file android-info.txt from RUU of Stock ROM u have installed
3) Put above 2 files into PC10IMG.zip archive
4) Copy created PC10IMG.zip to root of your sd card
5) reboot into bootloader mode (press and hold 'volume down' then 'power' until u see bootloader screen.
6) be patient while it find your PC10IMG and ask if you really want to flash it. Here should word RECOVERY.
7) Agree to flash (press 'volume up')
8) Wait while it flashes recovery, when it finish - ask you to press 'power' to reboot
9) Woala! Now you have custom recovery and free to flash any custom ROM or just Superuser update to obtain root with stock rom.
As i understand that way will work to flash any part of ROM (system, boot, etc.)
Btw, for those who scare - just tested that twice: 1st time flash old recovery 3.0.0.5, reboot into recovery and checked that version is 3.0.0.5; then flashed latest one 3.0.2.4 - now recovery is of version 3.0.2.4.
I prepared PC10IMG.zip with clockworkmod recovery 3.0.2.4 - http://www.multiupload.com/6LOA99IGW1 .
i got my phone back from repair unrooted and with stock 2.3.3 rom. somehow it had SHIP S-OFF though and this worked for me. right now i'm doing a backup of the rom, and afterwards i'll try restoring cm7 from before i sent the phone in for repair...i'll keep you posted.
I went through this whole ordeal not long ago. I had eng hboot, radio s-off, root, nine yards. Messed up the rom I had, and had the official GB pc10img on the root of my sd card, not thinking (and needing my phone asap) I went ahead and installed it. I ended up just downloading the official ota update pc10img, flashing it, and rerooting/flashing eng hboot.
As long as you have S-OFF in the bootloader, you can flash ANY pc10img meant for the htc vision.
I managed to install CM6.1.1 so that I would have android 2.2 (not sure if this was necessary), got perma root and pushed ENG HBOOT. Now on CM7.1, no issues to report.
So does it work with stock 2.3.3? Great!
edit, where is "android-info.txt" ? Because i upgraded via OTA.
No, it only works with a previously rooted and s-offed phone with latest RUU installed. Then you still have S-OFF but stock firmware without custom recovery. This method will give clockworkmod back.
Any chance to do that? I`m stuck in custom rom and no chance to flash any of stock ROM`s because of hoot version... Same thing with fastboot.. No chance to flash hoot .nb0 from fast boot.. Thanks in advance
Have you tried using revolutionary?
Or the HTCdev Unlock Tool?
Yes, revolutionary does not support this version of hoot...
And boot loader is unlocked by htcdev site, but that is a problem now for me..
Do you have clockworkmod recovery?
Yes, CWM flashed from fastboot? Is there a way to flash hboot from CWM or..?
What happens when you try flashing a rom from CWM or wiping?
Signature error if i try rom with hboot.img in .zip... I only could flash a rom without hboot.. But my aim is to downgrade hboot...
You can't just flash any .zip file randomly. Especially if it's something as sensitive as the bootloader.
And try flashing a rom in CWM, you might not need to downgrade.
Naturally, I understand that and I understand well how should i have flash.. When i wrote zip rom without hboot i meant Buzz_Froyo_hTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_SAFE_FLASH_ZIP...
I want to downgrade hboot version to be able to use revolutionary instead of htcdev unlocked boot loader, understand me? Mentioned Froyo ROM does`t have hboot image in archive, and that`s why is safe...
I'm not sure if the HTCDev bootloader can even be unlocked.
But don't take my word for it...
I just hope you're wrong.. I hope that team mate from revolutionary have some idea in the future days...
Actualy, after looking at the RUU you were trying to flash. It's "safe". You could try using a "non-safe" one.

Give me the link of "non-safe" to try?
@Scratch0805
Yes, i tried just that, but with no luck...
It can't be done like that, I think the images need unpacking first, if you look inside a custom Rom and compare it to your Rom.zip you'll see the difference.
I don't think you can use PC49IMG after unlocking with HTC dev either so your only option is fastboot and after I read the warning about not going back after using the tool it wouldn't surprise me if they locked it so it can't be flashed with fastboot either.

Every section of Stock ROM i could flash with fastboot, except hboot which is my highest goal... You are right, i can`t use PC49IMG.zip anymore...

when the bootloader is unlocked using the HTCdev method ,there is no s-off required.. BTW try flashing the cwm recovery again using the fastboot method becoz the options you mentioned seem incomplete..maybe after doing this you may get "install zip from sd" option in cwm recovery so that you can flash custom roms..
Alternative: You can rename the custom rom to update.zip and put directly on sd (not in any folder) and choose "update with update.zip" option which you already have in cwm recovery.

hi friends..
while trying to rooting my htc desire through unrevoked3...
i am getting an error
"error: failed to get root. is your firmware too new?"
like this..
can anybody plz help me
why this thing is happening??
i am using official android 2.3 version on my desire
any suggestion plz
When you start your phone with Vol- & Power, whats is displayed on the white screen? Somewhere something like PVT4 maybe? If so, you can't install the "standard" recovery which comes with unrevoked3.
So what you got to do is:
1. Downloaf AmonRa v2.0.1 (from here for example: http://www.brutzelstube.de/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.1.img
2. In unrevoked choose the menu File/Custom Recovery and after that choose the img file
3. connect your phone via USB
Worked for me as well a few months ago.
I had the same problem with unrevoked. I used revolutionary, and it worked great.
visit revolutionary(dot)io
I used this in conjunction with a factory reset, which wiped me back to 2.1.
Use revelolutionary. Its a tool for instant s-off, root and custom recovery.

Had same problem with Unrevoked, resolved it by downgrading my system using some older RUU update. But in that time I didn't know Revolutionary - using Revolutionary is definetly much easier than downgrading whole system.

Unrevoked works for 2.2 but not for 2.3. Furthermore, it does not give s-off and flash custom recovery (CWM).

This a solution for the MISC-Errors when starting Clockworkmod Recovery (CWM). If one can start CWM, it means the root process with unrevoked started and finished successfully. But here the root process can't even be started, so your solution won't work.
