[Q] HTC Evo 4g Flashed to Metro PLZ Help - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am a metro dealer and I had a customer come in with a evo that was rooted and hacked to work on meto. I belive that who ever hacked it had changed MEID to one that was already existing on metro. The phone was maser reset to factory of the root and the MEID on the phone was reverted to the one that actually comes on the phone. Customer had bought it this way from some random. I told them in order for it to activate under metro I would have to flash it with our software to get the correct MEID into metros System. So I did a Metroflash (houdini) on it and prgramed phone for their number and phone wont even make a call no matter what I do. I have tried reprogramming it numerous times had metro Refresh device still noting I either can error message "to make a collect call ......" or you "must dial the are code when calling this number" I have even gone as far as doing a Fresh software install Via RUU method and reflashing.. Any help or ideas would be appreciaed .. Thank You in advance .

Please help htc diamond cant change number

Hello everyone. I recently bought a htc diamond off of craigslist and I brought it into my cellphone provider to have it activated but they could not program my phone number into it. I called the guy who sold me the phone and he said that it had be unlocked and has an updated software. How do I program my phone number into the phone so that I can receive calls?

This is so strange, I have never heard of anything like this.
Do you mean it is locked to some network? What happens when you put your sim card inside the phone? Does it ask you for an unlock code, or does it work normally?
Answer these questions and maybe someone might be able to help you.
Mine is a CDMA version. I know the it was unlocked and flashed, but there must have been an error because when I tried to change the msid to my number it would say it was updated then it would shut off and not turn back on. I flashed it back to the original bell rom, but now I need the mastercode to get into it. Unless I can re flash it with a different rom to change it that way. before I flashed it I could click on an icon that said phone codes and edit my msid that way, but now that i have factory settings I cant edit anything.

[Q] SGH-T889 Metro PCS sim not working

Hello,
Today I bought a Note 2 on Craigslist. Since it was from TMobile I though it was only a matter of putting my sim card in the phone and it would work, I was wrong. The person that I bought the phone from gave me an unlock code that he got straight from T-Mobile, however when i used my sim card the phone didn't ask me for the code, so I assumed it was already unlocked.
I called Metro PCS to replace my current phone (LG optimus 9) with the Note 2, they tried using the IMEI number and they told me that there was a problem, that they couldn't activate the phone, and that I had to go to a T-Mobile store. I went to the store, they checked the IMEI and they say it was fine, the guy also told me that the unlock codes are only valid for 72 hours and the person who sold me the phone requested the code on 01/17/14 which means the code its no longer valid.
After that I tried calling Metro to get the phone activated, it didn't work...
I thought that maybe the phone was still locked so I did a downgrade to 4.1.1 - UVALJ1 (the phone was rooted and it had a 4.3 custom rom) and unlocked the phone using the method of that "secret" menu. I tried using the Metro sim card, no luck. At this point I dont know what else to do, a T-Mobile sim card works fine, I haven't tried with another carrier, however I've been using my Metro sim card in my L9 with no problem, so I don't see why it shouldn't work with the Note 2.
So my question is if anybody has tried using the Note 2 on metro, specifically a T-Mobile one, and if so, how did you make it work?
I am pretty new to all of this rooting and android stuff, but I have done as much research as possible before asking, this is my last resource so hopefully someone can help me. Thank you in advance.
Update: After trying multiple times to activate the phone on Metro PCS it turns out the phone appears on their database as it hasnt been paid in full and theres an unpaid equipment installment balance, that is only on Metro PCS database. I went to T-Mobile and everything was fine on their system, no blacklisted, no unpaid balances, no nothing so I activated the phone with them. Now hopefully the guy who I bought the phone from doesnt decide to report the phone as stolen or lost just to be an ahole.
Im on android 4.1.1 and I want to upgrade but my phone its telling me that I cant upgrade because my phone was modified. I want to upgrade to 4.3 but I dont know if I lost root when I downgraded to 4.1.1, how can I check if im still rooted and what rom do you guys recommend flashing? Thanks in advance

[Q] Device won't connect to any network

Hi, I have an SGH-I747M that was originally purchased through Bell. In an attempt to unlock to make it work on Koodo, I went through SamMobile (after reading there was no way to unlock post 4.3 OTA update) and that seemed to half work. They resell a service from 123unlock.nl which is a client that uses adb or something of the sort to mess with phone files. The program afterwards said "Your phone is now unlocked! However if you don't see any carriers you need to do something in the advanced option and pay another $2x.xx dollars to do so". I didn't feel like giving them any more money at this point because I was upset that what I originally paid for didn't work properly. The fix was apparently an option in the advanced options that was an NVM repair/rebuild or something of the sort. I should have screenshotted the issue but of course didn't.
Now, the phone will boot up and does not offer me a SIM unlock option anymore. When searching for carriers it will ever only find Rogers for some reason. It won't recognize Koodo or Telus or anything of the sort (or bell when my bell SIM is in). Every now and then when it boots up, it will successfully send a text but only within a 5-10 second time frame after boot (I've made 1 phone call as well for 3 seconds). I've tried the Koodo SIM in my own Nexus 5 and works fine so the network is okay at least (plus I called Koodo and they verified on their end things look good... if that makes a difference). The SGS3 won't even accept an original Bell SIM at this point. It's always on either no network, 1 bar or full bars, never anything in between. I've tried flashing different ROMs from Bell stock to Koodo stock and CM11 and it won't work no matter what I do. Under all ROMs it pops up an "ME Returned temporary error" message on the screen.
I'm hoping someone might have seen this issue before or know what's going on with the phone that I can fix. I'm assuming it's something to do with the modem part of the phone that's refusing to connect to carriers but I'm at a loss to fix it. I haven't tried flashing different modems on it yet because I'm unsure which one would be a good fix and no one has had roughly the same issue I could find in 3 days of Googling for this issue. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Can you check your phone's settings => About Device and let's know what parameters you have there (Android Version, Baseband Version, Build Number>.
You mentioned you can send text or make call within a limited time frame. Was that with the Koodo SIM or the Bell? If the former, it would suggest the phone is unlocked to some extent but you are probably experiencing a baseband failure or need to correct the APN settings. Did you also try doing a factory reset?

The information you're asking for is attached.
The texts I got off were from the Koodo SIM. I have updated the APN as well, and I did do a flash back to stock resetting all settings through Kies emergency update. I found a little trick where if you softbrick it by trying to flash 4.1, it'll give you the "Please use kies" error and that'll take you back to full stock 4.3. I'm pretty sure the baseband failure is the option I need to explore but at this point I don't know where to go to fix this.
Edit: I read this online and tried it: "The 4.3 update introduces a "security feature" which requires carrier- or region-locked phones to be activated once on the original locked network before the unlock code will work." The phone didn't recognize any network with the Bell SIM in except "EXT" which I've never heard of before and it did not connect properly so that didn't work. I also read that inputting #7465625*638*# will give me the Samsung SIM unlock menu which it did however I don't think the issue here is with the root and I'd hate to pay $50 at this point to have that not work as well.

It's unlikely to be the regional lock as this feature means your phone will work with compatible networks in the region but not in other regions. You may, however, run Chainfire's Region Lock Away to be sure <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551>
Your firmware settings look OK so I'd be doubtful about a corrupted modem. You may still try to re-flash the modem via custom recovery. Download link for the CWM flashable zip is available here ... http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760973552
The guys who sold you the original code seem to have sold a dud as there is no reason for them to be asking for secondary payments and this sounds like the footprint of a regular scam. I'd be surprised though as they seem to be well rated

I've tried reflashing the modem and I've actually paid $50 for the unlock code from Bell, the original carrier. I used the code to get the network unlock menu and inserted the code. I still get between 1-4 bars now with no network access on either network. It's not showing anything except Rogers still in network operator selection.
Any ideas at this point? It refuses to connect to any networks. I'm out of options.
Edit: I don't know if this makes a difference, but when I do root explorer I can't actually find the nv_data.bin file. It doesn't have anything of the sort in the /efs folder.

Please let me understand a few things ... when you first acquired the phone, was it working normally on Bell prior to the first unlock attempt or you never used it at all until you tried Koodo? Secondly, was the unlock code you got from Bell identical to the one you got from the online service?
I'm trying to establish if it is a case of hardware failure not reported by the previous user especially if you bought it pre-owned from the secondary market. If you are not sure of the previous usage history, it could be a faulty or disconnected antenna which may require professional service. On the other hand if you are sure it was working fine prior to the unlock attempt, try the following ...
1) From the dial pad, enter *#197328640#
2) [1] UMTS
3) [1] DEBUG SCREEN
4) [8] PHONE CONTROL
5) [6] NETWORK LOCK
6) [3] PERSO SHA256 OFF
7) Press Menu => Back button and go all the way back to Step 3) above
8) [6] COMMON
9) [6] NV REBUILD
10) [1] NV REBUILD
Reboot and restart and let's see if this does it.
I've got a similar symtom different scenario (sister in-laws phone). I was also only able to see Rogers network on a search. I've got Telus version. It was working fine until it was brought to the Philippines, got unlocked there and brought back to Canada.
I was only able to see Rogers network until I went into the Service Menu (similar to above) and found the option to change the band. I changed it to Automatic. After that I was able to see Telus network. When trying to connect/register it would take a long time and give me an error "Unable to connect, try again later". I still need to do more troubleshooting, but that might be something to look at.
Note: Phone has stock MOD ROM, rooted and unlocked.

sgh-i257 Bell receives notifications but no network connection

I'll try to be brief. lol .Before finding this site I brought my unlocked S4 mini to wind to see if it will work. The guy found the 1700 freq in the phone service menu and changed something and said it won't keep on 1700 then he said something about the nv write. After a while he handed it back and said it wouldn't work. I put my bell sim in afterward it said no sim. it won't find any bell sim now. I tried a friends telus sim and it finds the sim fine and shows voicemail notifications but when I tried to call it says not connected to network. I can see the networks but when trying to connect, the signal drops and phone says "network not available try later". After it tries to connect the signal returns to normal.
So I found this site
I successfully rooted the phone with S4Mini_RootKit_v2.zip. It worked fine but had the same network problem. I fully rooted with cm11, then 12. Same problem.
I loaded a pit file gotten gaciously from sammobile. Same problem
I've returned all firmware to factory and undone root but still same issue.
The imei and serial number match the sticker on the back so they are not invalid.
The wifi and bluetooth and general operations are normal.
I'm guessing that the nv was rewritten and to recovery as well? But I really don't know as I am very new at this but have been doing a lot of reading.
1. Is there a way to restore the nv without a backup from my phone?
2. Is there a way to restore the service programming back to factory default? (I've seen this question asked before but only found the answer it is proprietory, whatever that means)
I have qpst and efs professional and a qcn file I was able to download from the internet
3. This qcn file is from unreliable source. Could I damage my phone more than it already is, and can i edit my imei and sn into it?
Thanks very much.

Need help correcting bad MEID and ESN

I bought a used LS990 on Ebay and I rooted it and installed TWRP and later tried activating it but it refused to connect to sprint's network so I did a complete factory reset with the .tot method and that did reset it and get rid of the secure boot errors but it also changed the ESN, MEID, IMEI, and all other identification information. I have tried using CDMA tool, QXDM, and also dial codes to modify those values but whenever I use computer based tools it seems to either not go through or revert immediately. Right now it is showing obviously corrupt data
Phone number: 0000008784
MIN: 000008784
ESN: 808D1BB1
MEID HEX: 35030526000000
IMEI: is correct, I was able to change it to my actual MEID and CDMA tool added a 3 to the end
Brand: Chameleon
My SPC/MSL code is 000000, I guess that's the default one
I'm not sure where to go from here, I have spent about 6 hours total working on this, have factory resetted more times than I can count on both hands and tried everything I could find on various forums
bump
Unfortiatly thats a touchy subject on here i cant tell u how to do it but get cmda workshop or dfs it can help.
Unfortunately, someone tried to modify the EEPROM themselves without the proper tools, and the information you are seeing is the result of that. Unless you have a backup of the original EEPROM, you will not be able to repair it yourself. You can't just change the ESN/MEID that easily for Sprint (or most networks, for that matter). I can not go into details on how it's actually done, even though you probably would not be able to obtain the right proprietary software to do it with. Unless you know someone who works at a Sprint repair shop or somewhere similar, I wouldn't even try to modify the EEPROM yourself. You'll just end up with a lot of frustration and a headache and lost time. It might even be illegal.
I recommend going to the Swappa site and entering in the MEID from the sicker under the battery into the checker. If the MEID on the sticker is clean, simply take it into a Sprint repair shop and request they either send it in to be re-programmed, or they might be able to do it in shop. I'm not sure if they will charge you for that or if it would be covered under any warranties.
If it's not clean, the only way to even get a MEID dirty is to report it stolen or to not pay your bill for too long. So it sounds like the eBay seller probably shafted you if the MEID comes up dirty. Only Sprint would be able to remove it from the blacklist if the previous user didn't pay their bill. If it is blacklisted because it is stolen, Sprint will not clean the MEID at all for any reason, regardless.
Hope that helps. Good luck!

No, the meid and esn were correct when I got it, it was totally stock. I changed the aboot which gave it a secure boot error and i did a sort of sloppy copy of my old lg g3 to the new one and some things broke but I just wanted it as a backup and/or media player. I gave it to someone as an upgrade and because of the modified aboot among other things it refused to connect to sprint networks so I did the tot factory reset and when I did that it overwrote the ESN and MEID. I checked the sticker and it didn't appear to be tampered at all and came out clean. I know tampering with the MEID and ESN are a legal grey zone but I'm trying to restore mine, not change it to someone else's. I already tried dfs and cdma workshop and both of them refused to actually change the values. I even resorted to using that manual qualcomm tool, I forget what it's called but it is used for editing those things among other things. The weird part is that I was able to successfully edit the imei to be the correct one but I was not able to edit any of the other values. I tried many things, I made sure the diagnostic mode or debug mode was enabled through the dialer, I tried it in download mode for fun, I made sure ADB was enabled, I tried changing the serial connection parameters and so much more but the ESN and MEID always refused to stick. I was thinking about resorting to editing the tot restore file somewhere with the correct values in hope that it would fix it. I'm really out of ideas at this point.
https://swappa.com/esn/shared/B7K9L8K9
that was the result when entering the hex meid
same problem
I'm having the same problem with EXACTLY the same invalid entries, after a similar system copy via TWRP from one device to another. Did you ever manage to correct the MEID and ESN?

I tried taking a LG G3 LS990 with the same MEID/IMEI mismatch to a Sprint repair store. They said they could probably correct the problem IF the phone was on an active Sprint account, without an account there was nothing they could do.

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but if you don't have an account with Sprint, why do you want the phone to have the right MEID? Are you selling it perhaps? If you plan on using the phone on Sprint, you could always sign up and then have them send it in? I must be missing something.

I've tried to activate the phone on RingPlus, a Sprint MVNO that uses the Sprint network. Activation fails and I assume it is due to the mismatch.

Did you ever get this fixed?
I have the same issue.
Ls990 g3 Sprint phone and Sprint sim
Tried to do unroot and flash stock Rom. On reboot i lost data sim and sd issues popping up. Tried to flash the stock tot again and out came up as corrupt or invalid. Don't recall. Plugged into the cdma workshop and out gives all the exact (exact) same info as you posted.
So looking into the build prop it seems to be set GSM prepaid not Sprint spcm postpaid all Sprint apps are missing and the carrier folder no apn settings are set and there's no option to add using the short cut tool i can open add apn but no settings save at all flipping the airplane mode didn't help. The sim locks due to no network....
Same problem on my LG G2. We need to put a BIG FAT warning out that the ToT method will destroy our Sprint LG phone.
DFS Professional can correct IMEI. With CDMA workshop, write all zeroes to ESN using LG method and then you can write MEID. Your phone will still probably need to be programmed properly though. This will help, but maybe not completely http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f799/qcn-file-thread-1867281/index11.html#post12138691
I had similar happen to a VS985, still not 100% right but it is mostly functional
edit:
i guess i'll add, without cdma workshop, you may be able to get away with downloading proper qcn from link i provided and using DFS Pro to write IMEI, MEID, and ESN to qcn before flashing with qpst. Seemed flakey for me though.
