Few questions! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Okay hi all i will soon be joining the fun whit you guys but before using my upgrade next month on this phone i got a few questions here it goes :
-how is the camera ?? Camera is a really important feature to me and what i mean by this is does it take good detailed pictures?
-How is speed performance and battery life? i am a student so i atleast need 5hours of use i dont game at all i just listen to music check xda and Facebook time to time..
-how is the sound quality on this device? Speaking about the speakers of course..
- can it handle live wallpapers whit ease ? I have an older phone that can barely run lwp lol was just wondering ..
- does this phone have a camera stabilization / image stabilization? Like the iphone 4s
Well that's all for now and sorry for the long post

People often criticize about the camera but I honestly don't see any problems with it as long as you focus the picture.
Speed and battery life: Speed is definitely amazing on this phone. Haven't experienced any lag using stock ROM / kernel but I've moved onto customizing it with custom ROMS and kernels. Battery life is iffy when it comes to LTE users, if you're on GSM, you shouldn't have any problems. Although, you will get the best battery life by rooting / custom ROMs / kernels.
Sound quality is amazing. Get Volume+ to increase speaker volume, that's about it.
Live Wallpapers: only live wallpapers that are optimized for Android 4.0 (phase beam).
Focus on camera? yes.

If you really value camera quality, look into the rezound. I really miss the camera. Much better compared to the GN.

Camera is pretty average. For me it's good enough but perhaps not for you. Check out some of the threads like this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392436. I love the effects you can add afterwards with the stock app too
Performance is generally very good but a bit laggy on scrolling homescreens and in the launcher. This is on 4.0.1/4.0.2, apparently the 4.0.3 upgrade will sort this out but that remains to be seen! Battery life I find quite good, gets me through the day anyway. I get about 4-5 hours screen on time. In total usually lasts me between 1-1 and a half days. It really depends on your personal usage though.
Sound quality is fairly bad in my opinion but I can live with it fine. The speaker is quiet and in-call sound quality is also quiet and sometimes it's really hard to hear people, especially if you're in a noisy environment.
Live wallpapers are just as bad on the Galaxy Nexus as on other phones. Only one works and that is one of the stock ones called Phase Beam, not even the other stock LWPs work, which says a lot I think about LWPs!
The camera doesn't have image stabilisation. In fact that is probably one of the worst things about it as getting a steady shot is the hardest aspect of getting a good photo on this phone. Quite often when you hit the button to take the picture it can be enough to put it out of focus. If you do get a steady shot it's pretty good (in my opinion at least).
Although I sound really critical I'm just trying to be honest. I absolutely love my Galaxy Nexus and I highly recommend you get it!

The best advice I can give you is that,
If you value having a stock Google experience without waiting 6+ months for your perspective manufacturer to update your phone then you will love the Galaxy Nexus.
Yes, camera isn't the best. But it's good enough to take casual pictures.
After all, this is a developer device. At the same time, you'll be rocking 4.65" inches of screen fun. You most likely won't be disappointed, give it a try--watch YouTube videos, reviews, etc.
I myself and other users (on this forum) are probably biased of the phone. But honestly, stock Android without having manufacturer skins is the way to go. I will not accept any phones with skins on top of them and then getting the latest and newest Android 6 months after it's release. Yes, there are custom ROMs featuring these new Android versions but... all these ICS ports to other phones are still using the older version of the kernel.
In development, Nexus devices always last. We've already have great developers for the phone and it will only get better.

[Q] Should I switch from Galaxy S to DHD ? Why ?

Hello there XDA,
I have been using a Galaxy S for a while now..I am pretty much satisfied but I hate the fact that am running custom roms, and everytime there is a new update, I have to go through the whole backup and restoring process..Anyways, thats not huge issue..
So am planning to switch to DHD..Should I or should i not.. ??
Things that are making me not switch is what Am hearing from everyone..They all say that battery life is really gay..is it really that bad compared to SGS.. ? because SGS aint got good battery life it self..
Other thing thats kinda bothering me is the LCD screen...I am currently on super amoled, but in order to save battery life and not ache my eyes, My phones brightness is always low...So my question..is LCD that bad compared to super amoled.. ? or its just oki.. ??
Please give me some serious advice if possible..Things like sound quality of the speaker and sh!t dont really matter to me..I want good hardware, and less issues and bothering
This is all opinion so please nobody flame me for having a different opinion to you.
Well there's pros and cons really. You would be moving sideways, making some gains, and paying a price in other regards. Having said that I could have swapped my DHD for a Galaxy S plus a few $$$ thanks to a recent offer but I would rather have the DHD.
Htc seem to be better with software updates than the ever tardy Samsung, but they don't seem to like us to have root so you gotta be careful about weather or not you accept those updates or wait for the xda devs.
While the battery life is worse, from what I've been able to learn about the SGS it isn't that much worse.
The screen is no better or worse than AMOLED, just different. Depending on what you are looking at it may look better on one screen or the other. My eyes seem to think text is a little sharper and easier to read on the DHD, while pictures look a little more vibrant on the SGS.
Our camera is better and we have a flash.
The DHD feels much more solid in the hand thanks to the aluminium body. The SGS feels kinda like its going to blow away in the wind after having the DHD for a while.
There. Thats my take on it. Hope it helped.
I switch from galaxy s to dhd... faster n consume lesser batt... just have to get use to the screen quality difference...

Exactly how I feel. I owned a Galaxy S for 5 months and switched to DHD. It is a breath of fresh air. Browsing is smooth and the 4.3" screen is really great but still behind iPhone on smoothness under pinching action. I reserve my comment until now so that I have about 1 month of DHD experience. This is to make sure I can be sure I can compare with similar usage habbit.
The lagfix gave me a false sense of speed but too often the TouchWiz would still lag.
In addition, I have also experienced better battery usage than my Galaxy S but that may not be a good comparison as I am running with a rooted Galaxy S.
Overall, I must concede that I miss the vivid color and blackness of SAMOLED display. Again, you get use to it fairly quickly.
Good luck.
Ive got both phone,s. The battery for me is better on the SGS than the DHD. Compare both of them is really hard. As both got there pro and cons. Ive always been a HTC owner and i have got a love hate relationship with the UI for me thats the big issue as i love the ui but on the other had i dont. Just wish that take away the main screen graphic like the menu bar and replace it with like the gingerbread luncher but keep the htc widgets. So think overall for smothnes and all arounder still the DHD
HTC HERO - HTC HD2 - NOW HTC DESIRE HD & SAMSUNG GALAXY S Bring on the modding.
i had both phone for a while and today i sold the galaxy, the battery life is better in the DHD,because i always had the SGS with custom firmwares which included other kernels like voodo or supercurios...the RFS file sistem is really a crap, the firmwares of SGS weren't decent until JPU 2.2.1 froyo, instead the DHD just like comes out of the box its quick and smooth, the SCLD for me its only a micro-step behind the Superamoled, and thats because of the black color, you'll never see a black like that ,because the pixel its complety off,in the SLCD you watch it like a watermark of real black, but out of this its really bright and it didn't have nothing in common with normal desire/nexus SLCD...
and a thing that no ones mention in the post ,its the impressive **** that is the SGS GPS,with an accurancy comparable with a nuclear weapon killing cockroach...i was even thinking on taking legal actions to samsung because of the petrol wasted each time i take the car..
Can anyone tell me more about the GPS in DHD.. ?? SGS Gps is almost gay.. I never use it..i prefer using my N97 gps over the SGS one
How about the Roms guys.. ?? Do i have go thru the process of trying custom roms and see which one is best ? or HTC has done a good job, which means i wouldnt be bothered to try out custom ROMS
Well, if the SLCD ain that bad, and if am getting LED flash lights, so i guess the only thing I'll be losing if i switch is internal memory..1.5gb in DHD (( have to buy memory cards :////
About the battery life of DHD - I'm actually quite statisfied now.
At first, when I hadn't tweaked anything yet, it was terrible.
It would die within 6 hours with my usage rate. But now I'm on OTA 1.72 (instead of the old 1.32) WITH root preserved, and I think 1.72 is a huge improvement concerning the batterylife.
With 1.72 combined, I got running: SetCPU, Autokiller, Advanced Task Killer, JuiceDefender+UltimateJuice and my batterylife is only down to 56% right now (thats 14 hours and counting! Unplugged it at 8.30, its 22.30 here now).
Using these apps correctly really makes a huge difference!
And as far as I know (I'm not that much into ROMS atm) HTC did a good job. Sense is beautiful, I love it. Only reason to take another rom would be boosting/braking the performance
I am very happy with the interface and the speed of the stock rom of my DHD, so I dont intend to try another one. The gps also works fine. I have bought SGS for my girlfriend, but the interface is very crappy compared to the DHD, also feels like a toy in my hand, didn't try her gps. The colors are a little better on the SGS.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The gps is fine. Works as expected, the included locations software is also very good although there is am additional fee to pay for voice guided navigation.
You don't really need custom roms, unless you want to ditch sense and get an aosp experience. Myself I use the rcmixhd rom because I want a stable rom which is close to a stock rom with only the addition of the ability to theme my phone.
I've had (minor) problems with some of the other sense based roms, although the new leedroid 1.3a is also very good.
But yeah the short answer is that dhd is a very nice software experience even without any kind of hacks.
Sent from my performance enhanced Desire HD
Thanks everyone for the replies..
I kinda of got my answer..but I would still appreciate further comparison
Sorry if my opinion has been posted by other people before me, but this is my opinion.
My mum has an SGS, and wow, it is a brilliant phone. I have recently got the DHD and have been using it for a couple of days now.

From a hardware perspective, the DHD has roughly 250mAh less battery capacity than the SGS. However, on my FIRST charge yesterday, it lasted me from 7am - 4.30pm battery. I was being careful, e.g turning off wifi and things when I don't need it, but you have to do that with all smartphones. I used the music player at a loud volume for most of that time, and used the flash, lots of games, mobile data etc. Screen was on lowest setting according to my Power Dock Widget from HTC, and that was easily bright enough! (By the way, the battery would of most likely lasted longer, but at about 3pm, I tried to drain the battery quickly so I could charge from a flat battery, before I started, the battery was half full.
Other thing thats kinda bothering me is the LCD screen...I am currently on super amoled, but in order to save battery life and not ache my eyes, My phones brightness is always low...So my question..is LCD that bad compared to super amoled.. ? or its just oki.. ??

The super amoled screen is amazing, however the DHD is still a great screen. Maybe not as good as the SGS, but it isn't bad, it is very good, maybe it just might seem worse compared to the amazing screen of the SGS.
However, it looks great on a low setting, and I wouldn't be worried about this, I was worried by it and I got a pleasant surprise!
Please give me some serious advice if possible..Things like sound quality of the speaker and sh!t dont really matter to me..I want good hardware, and less issues and bothering

The camera is good, perhaps a bit grainy but it does have flash unlike the SGS. There are also quite advanced options, and the graininess can be ruduced.
The camcorder compared to the SGS isnt that good, but it still records good 720p video, but you can find there is a bit of motion blur when moving the camera too much. Once again, it does have the flash though.
The HTC Sense interface is amazing, so intuitive, really makes the Android software something else! The gaming on it is great, and so far I have had no major problems or faults with it, and if you ever do, at least you know where you can go for help
ok you need to look at it this way, i have been using smartphones for ages, starting with Ericsson r380, moving to IPAQ then Imate PDA2K, HTC Cruse, HTC diamond, HTC HD. the only reason i didn't get HD2 is the battery life as I heard it is not good and windows 6.5 is kind a crappy OS, so I waited and I say DHD. It is android phone and I have no experience in android but here is what I like:
1- It has a good big screen so you can read easily. <emails, word, excel, internet and whatever you need like PDF and others>.
2- Good storage 1.5 G and Good RAM 768.
3- GPS on it is great.
4- HTCsence.com, controlling your phone over website <which it is not working for me ): ….>
5- Phone performance, I like its speed and response.
6- The look and feel of the phone. <it is big, expensive and look nice>.
7- Nice aluminum body. Still hate having to doors on the back. <still not a big deal to me>.
8- Great CAM. No front one ):
9- Good application installed. Specially the HTS sense
As I said the big screen was the most I like in the phone. Hope those give you a help.
P.S. …. If you sold your SGS and got DHD plz don’t blame me if you didn’t like
R.

SGH-T989 this phone is beyond expectation!

Feedback based on Stock Tmo ROM
PROS
after spending more than 12 hours straight doing all kind of stuff to this phone, which would have normally killed it in the old Nexus S, the T989 has by far surpassed all the expectations i had with it.
super fluid, i can do more than 10 things at once without crashing, hanging, or freezing, and simply rebooting like it did on the Nexus S.
i can be copying things around withing the phone while doing or running other apps, or installing things, without feeling a bit of lag
those simple operations would have easily frozen the Nexus S until whatever was holding it is done doing whatever it was doing.
The network speed is amazing, areas where i had poor download speed, less than 1 Mbps, now i can get 3 Mbps, areas where it maxed out at 5 Mbps i can get 8~9 Mbps (these are all indoors tests), and this is all in the broadware riddle stock ROM from Tmo
Eager to run some outdoor test to see how much higher the speed goes
speed coping pasting stuff to and from the SD card to PC or SD card to from internal memory is super fast
screen is simply amazing, it's working properly as designed, it was expected of a SAMOLED+ display, no where near as bad as it was presented on the worry topics.
camera is great, and very responsive, no shooter lag at all, unlike the Nexus S
flash works fine
the build quality is the highest i've seen from Samsung
CONS
the only thing that does worry me is the back cover...
i'm afraid after a while those teeth that keeps the cover locked to the side might simply wear out after frequent usage, like changing battery packs, changing SD cards, etc.
the speaker volume for speaker phone/ring tone is kinda low, compared to the Nexus S
screen default auto brightness is waaaaaaay too low, lets just say it stays at Zero or 5% most of the time. (work around, disable auto, and manually adjust to your liking), this will get better once CM7 or 3rd party apps becomes available to auto adjust screen brightness level as we set it to the level we want.
hmm... i can't think of anything else at the moment
still too excited and having too much fun, flashing things, restoring backup, migrating stuff from old phone to new phone, and installing more crap load of stuff to my 32GB class 10 Adata, soon to be replaced with the sandisk 64GB when it arrives by mail so i'll be installing even more stuff, until the phone slows down to a crawl, then i'll hold back
I really want to go ahead and get it. I sold my sensation to get Galaxy nexus. But I am not going to pay over 600$ for a phone if it doesn't come to tmobile. I really liked the galaxy s 2
I'm not a big fan of the GSII looks are pretty standard build quality seems good but not premium. but where things change is once you hold the device and use it you get this damn rock solid device in every aspect. Camera looks Great more settings than stock 2.3, Screen looks great with vivid colors, performance is just blazing even after so many MEH reviews of not having a Exynos this thing flies. Made me say damn your not my favorite but you really know how to keep me happy LOL. for someone to say this phone is garbage or bad they must be out of their mind.

i've not noticed anything weird on the radio, made several phone calls conversation walking/driving around just fine
i use 3G data a lot, and did not lose signal, unless i'm inside the elevator, or places deep inside the buildings like toilet, and basement places
the radio reception is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the Nexus S
i still need to test inside Cotsco and Walmart super centres
those places i used to lose signal on the Nexus S
Coming from a Vibrant and G2x, I absolutely love this phone. The Vibrant was really what opened me up to Android while the G2x paved the way for rooting, recovery, and ROMs.
They both had their quirks and I feel like the SGSII is THE best phone out there. I see myself with this phone for a long time because of the great development and involvement of the Android community.

I have to be honest guys, initially I did not like the thought of having a 4.5" display on my hands, I went and got the HTC AMAZE the same night was experiencing a horrible screen bleed, then found out the battery only last around 4-5hrs, it was a horrible 24hr experience... So, I decided to give the Galaxy SII a chance... OMG!!!... The GSII is the best phone I have ever had, battery is awesome I've been using the phone like there is no tomorrow, Web, YouTube, Text msg, Talking for hours, I mean constant use all day long, and I still have 30% left the battery, love it!!!... The screen, the colors, the camera its great... Definitely a way better build phone than other phones out there... Enjoy!!

I had a vibrant a while back and that phone just doesn't compare. The back cover on the GSII is flimsy but at least it feels premium while on the phone.

I too came from the Nexus S and share the same opinion on this phone as you. I also am quite happy with the current rom devs for this phone. I am running EagleBlood rom and am getting some crazy good battery life.

I have both the nexus s and the gs2. My gs2 spends more time in the box than it does being used. Don't get me wrong the phone is amazing but I like aosp(CM7). As soon as CM7 comes to the gs2 I wont look back. Gs2 ftw

Loving my SGS2, don't really have any complaints. I also love all the devs that are popping out of nowhere to develop for this phone, not to mention Team Whiskey is also working on something.
If they made my Vibrant go from a POS to an awesome phone, I wonder what they are gonna do with this one. Can't wait!
Hercules Hercules!!
other than the battery, this phones features are crazy. and there are a lot of devs doing nice stuff to improve it too
I am a flashing maniac as well as a guy who gets bored with phones in a few weeks. I have had all the top devices, and the SGS2 has honestly exceeded all of my expectations X100!!! I don't even have the urge to Root it and flash ROMs because I am actually happy with it bone stock (a first for me). I think I have finally found my dream phone. When people show me their new iPhones I just giggle and smile. I want to marry this *****!!!!

same here, of all the phones i've ever had, i was never happy with the stock ROM
this is a first, never seen such a snappier stock ROM ever
the crapware from Tmo are easy enough to remove once rooted.
now, if i flash ROM is just out of curiosity to check out what cool features the guys are adding
otherwise if i want a stable ROM, i'll just flash back to stock
i actually have a copy of the stock ROM in my SD card ready to be flash back, just in case any of the ROMs becomes unstable
I love this damn thing. Stock rom surprised the hell out of me with the features/responsiveness.
The only gripes I have are the lines at low brightness, the insane amount of bloatware, and no notification light.
Other than that, wow. I really can't believe how much I adore this phone. And the fact that I love to mod my phones (nexus one, g1 and hd2) says a lot for this one when I say I don't have any desire to root. Besides the bloat, but at least the app drawer lets me hide it.
Ok, I'm using eagleblood with go launcher... I'm in a constant love fest with the phone. Was that too overboard? Inappropriate? Awkward? I don't care. Well I came from a Droid Eris, so my ecstasy should be understandable. The Go Launcher is really solid BTW(tried a couple others that performed really sketchy) and I got it to get the desktop in landscape mode(whenever needed).and yeah, it's solid.

[Q] Is the Galaxy Nexus any good?

Hi, Im thinking of buying a gal.... but i was wondering some stuff,
1 : Is the phone good? Does it lagg and stuff like that.
2 : Is there many custom mods?
3 : What are the Good sides and the bad
Thanks in advance
Sry for my bad english, My grammer sucks
It's good, like it better than my old Galaxy S2.
Some mods, I haven't done much to mine though besides sticking in the sim card and exploring the phone.
Good sides - It's pretty awesome.
Bad - Screen rotation's slow on some apps..that's all I have so far.
Probably should have posted in the QA section.
Get it. I'm coming from iOS. Well, still use it. But this is the only phone I would use with android on a daily basis. Yeah there are cons, but overall no regret. Customizing, this is the phone u want. I predict this phone will only get better and be supported for a long time. Good luck with your decision

It's great.
But it is a dev. phone, expect some bugs.
Overall I love it, and I think it's relatively beg-free compared to my N1 when I got that one and my expectations.
It is a lovely phone.
Is the screen really bright and is the volume of notifications really loud ?
The build in speaker sucks pretty hard. You have to use apps like volume+ to be able to hear your notifications in a louder environment.
But the screen is simply awesome.
Oh, and ice cream sandwich too

1. yes, once in a while here and there
2. dont know, i dont use custom mod
3. 4g, ok screen. bad battery life.
I came from an HTC Evo 4G.
First thing that I STILL can't get over after a weeks time is the screen! it wows me every time I turn it on!
I have gotten the phone to lag at some points but that's when I'm pushing it pretty hard. That's not too bad because once I load an over clocked kernel on it the lag should be gone for good.
overall the phone is simply amazing! I think I'll still be very happy with my purchase even after all the big 2012 models are announced in the next couple of months.
can't go wrong with a nexus!
EDIT: the phone is very snappy! when I say I've gotten it to lag, I mean it's not that often and I'm really working the phone hard to see it stutter but that was normal use with my evo even with OC and CM7.1

Seriously? Ok screen? What screen is better? Btw, your Miley Cyrus profile pic makes me believe your sight ain't that great.
Signal issues and mtp are the only issues I'm having. The phone is smooth as butter. Best on the market right now.
Okay thanks going to buy it as soon as my local store got it in stock

Questions about the GS2.. Amaze user here

Well I have an HTC Amaze for about 2 months now.
I recently upgraded to ICS and it completely ruined my wifi calling experience because everytime I am on a call, there is a delay in the voice, that gets worse as time goes on. Not to mention everyone says I sound alot lower on wifi calling compared to normal use. I rely on wifi calling in my place cuz I get no signal here
I called T-Mobile and there are no Amaze to send me, so they sent me a GS2 instead. I am getting it on Monday. In reality, I can just keep the Amaze if I hate the GS2, send back the GS2 and deal with the wifi issue, but whats wrong with trying out the GS2 for 7 days right? =]
Anyways, What are the major differences between the 2 of these phones. Mainly my big issue is wifi calling and am curious how good, or not good, it is on the gs2.
I use my camera alot and I hear the Amaze takes the cake on this comparison, but I figured you guys would know better since you have a gs2. How is the photo quality?
Feel free to add more differences if you like. Sorry if its been asked before.
Thanks alot!
BTW I always run stock, so no downgrade to gingerbreads please =] lol
I feel that the SGS2 camera is excellent. You can take a picture and then zoom in and the picture will still be clear.
Here is an article showing the difference between the 2 phones.

Enjoy!
Hope I helped you out! If I did don't forget to hit the THANKS.
Oh your welcome. Believe me I have read all those articles. Just trying to get first hand accounts from owners on here
Keep the GS2. Much better phone IMO. Can't find anything wrong with it. Even stock this phone is very smooth and stable. Just a rock solid, good looking phone.

The ICS roms we have for the SGS2 also have the wifi calling delay. Works perfect on GB.
Hopefully the official ICS update doesnt have the problem

This is a great phone, had a for about 4 months. I was recently offered a straight trade for Amaze so I was considering that as well, but decided I needed compensation for my SGS2 as well, so it didn't go down. Try to extend your time to like 9 days when the ICS update drops so you can see if ICS will effect wifi-calling?
I've had the htc mogul, evo and evo3d. I left sprint for tmobile and got the s2, I havent had any complaints and dont miss htc at all. I will say this though the s2 camera is ok not great, no zoom and not fast. I find it strange that several years ago my original palm pre would snap pics as fast as you could press it, and here we are several years later with sorry cameras still, except for the amaze. I would raise hell about having an htc and try to drag a htc one out of them, i mean htc is what you bought.
Might be a dumb question but is there not an auto shot mode on the s2 camera.
Im messing around with it and I dont wanna have to choose what kind of mode to put it in every night.. as in night mode etc etc.
Is there an option for it to just do it itself.
Oh and sorry, is there a way to make the photos widescreen when you take pix? When I view them on my comp, there all square.
Its about equal.
After a few months, with both, phones,I finally (yesterday) have decided gs2 is the better device.
Its much more responsive, battery lasts longer(stock/rooted).The camera is best on amaze, but not by much.
gs3 drops soon for $199.

There is Auto Iso, and Auto Focus... and you can leave the effects and scene selections on None.

Choose 6.5 meg resolution which should be widescreen, at least it is on DarksideBeta07. On stock, I think it is similar but I don't run stock to check.
Lastly, I have a Sensation and GS2; HTC Camera's are quicker for shots; but picture quality are both very good.
Having both phones. Was an extensive amaze user. Amaze's camera is amazing especially their night scene pictures compared to the gs2. Sorry but our camera sucks at night lol. meaning, pictures taking without flash. However daytime pictures, amaze has a slight lead especially macro pictures.
Battery is definitely better you probably notice already. Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity is a bit stronger and connects quicker. That was the first thing i notice about the two. Had them side by side.
Honestly i use to like the amaze's resolution because games had more details (compared side by side) but i hate it's viewing angle.
In the end, i would go with the gs2, it's snappier, better connectivity, longer battery life, and that's most of the day to day stuff you would notice. although the amaze's is by far the best. It's better than the iPhone 4s's too if you're wondering. haven't played with the new one s/x so no input there.. Probably because i see no need to change phones. I usually change every couple months. Been rocking this phone for 7 months love it

I noticed that the " little " things on this phone are just better then the Amaze. Like the little bugs and things you normally wouldnt notice. I also feel its better to hold this phone and type with. I also see myself not worrying so much about damaging the phone. Its funny cuz you would think that with the amaze and its better build quality that you wouldnt be worried, but I always am very careful with it, esp when putting it down. Its weird. Probably cuz its heavier.
For me, the screen thing doesnt really bother me that much. What really blew me away was how loud the music player is with my good headphones in. I always hated that about the amaze. I always wanted it louder and it never would go louder. This one is better then an ipod.
I am a big camera user so thats probably why I might send this one back. If this phone had the same quality cam as the amaze, I would DEFF keep it.
I also like the vibration on this phone more. I also have realized that I like thin and light phones alot more then hefty ones.
Now my huge nitpicks with the gs2 is the compression of photos on MMS, and of course the camera. Those 2 really do annoy the hell out of me.
My ONLY concern would be this.. I love this phone because the wifi calling is PERFECT. Its barely usable with the Amaze after the ICS update. Im just worried that the same thing is going to happen with the GS2 when you guys get the update. I would hate for me to keep this phone, just for a few days later for the update to put me in the same situation with the GS2 as with my amaze. If that was the case, id keep the amaze.
I already got an update from tmobile on this phone but have refused to download it, although I am sure its going to do it automatically sooner or later.
Anyway I am really enjoying the experience with the phone and have until Sat to make up my mind.
I was going to try and root my amaze and see if something can fix my wifi calling but the process is a lil more difficult then I thought.
Why the GS2 is better
In my opinion the GS2 is far more advanced than the amaze. It has a larger screen, faster cpu and better overall design. If you are worried about wifi calling and want to root, there are some roms on here that have ics which have good wifi calling, although some dont.

Considering getting rid of Quad Core One X for Nexus

As per the title, will I miss the Quad Core? Especially concerned about smoothness in the browser, for example scrolling when viewing flash elements is as if the flash element wasnt there on the One X.
Im considering the swap as I want a Nexus device for dev support and can have a bit of money left over for the next Nexus if I do this swap.
It will not be a regret! I was a fan of the build quality of the one x and its speed but the nexus with jb on it ownes the one x (in my opinion). Plus there is a port of HTC sense 4.0 if you are a fan of sense!

Thanks for the reply mate. How does the battery life compare (screen on times)? And does the Nexus feel "cheap" this is one criticism i see levelled at it a lot. I have the option of the S3 but that does look ugly and cheap (too much chrome and too much shine as well as too much plastic.)
I will miss the One X's looks but I love the look of the Nexus, particularly on the front.
Could you give me a test of browser/flash performance? How is it on the Youtube website scrolling when the video is playing? Are button presses on the flash object (like pressing play/mute/pause) instant? I'm a heavy flash user (cricket/football/Sky Sports streaming) so this is important to me.

Brilliant. Just trying to think of things I could throw at you lot here - I know what works smooth on the One X and what doesn't. For one thing CVG on desktop mode would have lag from when you put your finger on the screen to the actual scroll taking place.
PCgamer.com was also similarly troublesome on the One X.
What "Screen On" times can I expect with a Nexus? I get 3/4 hours on the One X
You'll get comparable screen on times. Most people get in the three to four hour range. Some less though, and I have seen upwards of five plus hours. A lot will depend on your setup and kernel of choice.
The One X is a nice phone, one that would be tempting to me, as I do like Htc's build quality.
The Nexus doesn't feel overly cheap to me or like to much plastic. I think that may be due to the Glass front and I run a cover so that kinds of changes the feel of the textured back to me.
I do really like the dev community and support that the Nexus receives. One of the reasons that it would be hard for me to leave the Nexus.
Good luck in your choice.

Trust me, i owned htc and samsung phones, and since my htc desire days i stopped using stock browsers and dolphin was the main one on all phones that followed. after getting the gnex i was still skeptical about stock browsers, but it's really the best browser i've tried so far, adding to it's speed all the cool stuff like guick controls and inverted screen rendering, u just can't go wrong with it. Furthermore the jelly bean experience is far away from anything available on any other android device out there. I posted a youtube link a while ago about a review for JB on gnex , a part of the review concentrates on browser performance, i'll post the link here as soon as i get to my pc (don't feel like searching over my phone)
Edit: as for screen on times, it depends if u're planing to get the gsm or cdma (verizon/sprint) version. I have a gsm one and on ics i used to get continuosly over 5hrs screen on. On jb it dropped to ~ 4-4.5 hrs , i think Google Now is eating the battery, (giving me navigation and calculating traffic to home) even though i don't need it, and actually i'm still enjoying all these JB features so i guess i'll turn some of those uneeded gnow cards OFF soon, pretty sure it'll improve my battery life more

Guys you're being ridiculously helpful and I'm seriously tempted to jack in the One X and get the Nexus tomorrow even!
That review you mentioned above would be great to see.
What JB ROM/Kernel combo would you recommend and could you point me in the direction of the thinnest case for the back of the phone?
I'd be on GSM in the UK BTW.
Does overclocking to the 4460's 1.5ghz massively impact battery life? And how effective is undervolting? I've read you can UV the CPU/GPU and Screen as well as another chip?
For the fella above that had the ONE X would you say the camera/screen is markedly better on the HTC or is it negligible? Screen more important than camera to me.
Also is this colour accuracy patch still in use with many Kernels? The ONE X screen is streets ahead in terms of colour IMO and this seems to certainly help? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521195
Lastly just to reaffirm, scrolling performance with a flash video playing is instantaneous?
Don't even need 1.5ghz. Its smooth at 1036mhz.

Achieved it yesterday. Well actually almost everyday. Stock jb with stock kernel. Only rooted deoxdexed, bigxie version. I don't use setcpu or anything. Gps and bluetooth on when needed. And since I don't use nfc, I turned it off and greatly improved the battery too. Auto sync are all on, auto-brightness n also plume updating every 30 minutes.
Btw, I use it alongside my one x too. The thing is, it's been 24 hours since I last touch my one x. Damn it that shows how much I love nexus and aosp! You won't regret it mate. I prefer using my nexus over one x in anything! Really tiring waiting for CM to come official for one x. Grrr...

How much difference is there between the screen and camera? Can you see pixels on the screen of the nexus being pentile or is it as pin sharp as the One X (which looks like a magazine print to be honest).
How would you rate performance of the Nexus in relation to the One X ?

The lag here worries me, its definitely not like that on the One X with ICS its butter smooth

I can't say on the Stock Browser with Ics, as I was using Chrome. But on JB with the stock browser, I just opened Youtube, and had no lag at all. Very smooth. I've been really impressed with the improvements to the Stock Browser in JB. I tried Chrome, and it was choppy. With the performance of the Stock Browser, I see no reason to use anything else now though.
What everyone else has said about not needing to overclock. Very true. I run at 1036 with no issues. I will push it up to 1500 if I want to run a bench test, but other than that, there really is no reason for me to OC.
The Gpu can be OC'd. I haven't noticed a lot of difference between 384 and 512. I don't play a lot of labor intense games though. Jelly Defense and Ski Safari are the only two games I have installed at the moment. Even the stock 307 setting works fine for these.
I have tried a few of the Kernels, but have been using Trinity exclusively now for the past few months both on Ics and now on Jb. It's all subjective to personal taste though. If you make the switch, there are many Kernels and roms to choose from, all with there pluses.
