Okay, what am I doing wrong? or is my arc just weird?
For quite some time I want to have Cyanogenmod 7, a Custom ROM or just another kernel. Well I followed some tutorials, like;
- [Guide] All in one 'Namaste guide' to Bootloader unlocking, Rooting, Flashing & more
- [n00bs] Root and Install CyanogenMod7 after Unlock Your Bootloader Step by Step
- Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc: Full Update Guide
- [KERNEL][ARC/ARC S] DooMKernel [Rel:v18-FIX1][Dt:24/Jan][FW:.42/.58/.62]
But everytime I try one off these I get stuck at;
- Reboot phone into recovery
It just doesn't boot then..
So I flashed my firmware back to stock .42 with flashtool..
Is it possible that my Arc just can't update to a new ROM/kernel?
What exactly doesn't work?
Just press the back button while booting to get into recovery

And when you try to install a custom ROM, you do exactly the following?
dp94 said:
Connect your device with your current ROM to a PC.
Put the ROM (*.zip file) on your sdcard.
Shutdown device.
Connect your device with fastboot mode (pressing menu button) to a PC.
Go to your fastboot folder.
Press shift key, right click and select "Open command window here".
Install kernel by using the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img".
After installing disconnect your device from PC.
Enter CWM recovery by pressing volume down button several times while booting.
Do a full wipe/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache.
Select install zip from sdcard.
Navigate to the folder you've saved the ROM and select it.
After installing select reboot system now.

I am thinking ...
Do we not have to Unlock our boot loader first, to be able to get into the Recovery Mode?
Because I am having the same problem ... I even get the blue light, but it just boots up normally ...!
Not anymore, with the help of this Application called Xparts, Available in Google Play,
We can Easily get into Recovery! Without Unlocking the Boot loader! Sweet!

Yes you need unlocked bootloader for DooMKernel.
I used testhead and S1tool to unlock mine.
You should check that your phone can be unlocked without bricking it.

If you are around a PC, you can also use "extra options" in Auto Root. You'll be presented with options to reboot to recovery (Option N) or odin dl mode (Option O). Alternatively you can use "adb reboot recovery" or "adb reboot download"

Does the cmd run if I flashed back in november and havnt done anything but flash since then?? I had to root a kindle fire so i understand the adb commands.
And can anyone point me to a way to unroot so sprint will honor a warranty?? I tried to search I didnt find anything clearly defined at unrooting.

Auto Root uses ADB commands, so basically if you can connect your phone to your PC and you have USB debugging enabled, it will work.
If your power button doesn't work, I would use ODIN as a 2nd option. It is probably the quickest to get you back to stock without fuss, but in the remote chance something goes wrong, you'd need your power button to get back into ODIN DL mode.
You might want to have a USB jig available if you use ODIN since it can get you back into ODIN DL mode even if your power button doesn't work.

Follow this forum and read down. This will help you get to stock, unrooted, EL29. EL29 is the current stock firmware. Also sprint isn't really to bad about rooted phones. If your problem is mechanical, it shouldn't matter if your rooted or not.

then root your phone, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317394
after you root, tick the usb debugging mode to enable it,
then get CWM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446593, and from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576874 it says that you should wipe all first before/after you flash a new rom..

Hi man...
You do this on other phone??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25422300
1. Did you follow the instructions in the CM9 Dev thread?
2. Did you first flash CWM5, it is the first item in the instructions in that thread.
3. If not, you can still flash CWM5, either by ODIN or adb.
4. You will have to read the instructions as to how, they are all in the forum.
5. No-one else can do it for you, you have the phone, just don't skip any essential steps.
6. I know you think your phone is bricked, but it does not seem so from your description.
7. Not sure how you got the CM9 splash screen by flashing through stock recovery?? Maybe you can explain how exactly you are flashing CM9??

well, that's the problem... if you want to install CM9, you should install CWM recovery first...
this is what you should do to resolve it:
1. turn on your phone into download mode
2. connect your phone to your PC, then flash CWM recovery through ODIN
3. after finished flashing CWM recovery, turn off your phone, then turn on your phone into recovery mode to enter CWM recovery
4. full wipe your phone in CWM recovery (wipe data, cache, dalvik cache)
5. flash CM9 in CWM recovery
next time, if you want flash ROMs into your phone, make sure you follow every instructions and DO NOT EVER SKIP single step of the detailed instructions...

yes you can't ofcourse, you must flash a rom first then after that when you get into debugging mode. the guide on flashing is on the link i provided, just go to download mode and if you can got to download mode everything would be fine as they said, DO NOT SKIP any steps, all links are provided from my first post from flashing, rooting, installing CWM and flashing the CM9 rom. hope this helps.
Hi,
Today iÍ totaly bricked my Defy+ after unsuccessful installing CaynogenMod CMX 10 (it stuck on boot animation). After that I tried with CaynogenMod bootmenu to install again 2nd-boot and 2nd-init to boot to stock ROM. But after that I can just boot to stock recovery menu and Android bootmenu (by CM team). In this bootmenu from CM I can just to choose default bootloader. No other functionality works, everytime I choose for example: Recovery -> Custom recovery it appears this error message: No such file or directory...... So I moved to RDSlite, but my phone is not recognized by Windows or RDSLite. And battery is not charging, only blink white LED when is on computer USB. And battery is under 30%. Don't know what to do now...

I have a similar question I'm afraid.
To update my Defy+ from CM7 to CM10 I wiped all there had to be wiped. When I got to "install zip from SDcard" I found out I had placed the wrong SDcard into the phone. Perhaps I shouldn't have done this but I did, I turned off the phone, changed the SDcard and tried to continue the process.
Unfortunately I can't get to the boot menu anymore, there's just the "M" logo. When I try to reacht the "old" bootmenu (reboot with volume down) the phone hangs at the Android robot with an exclamation mark next to it.
Is there a way solution?

I guess that's the stock recovery. Try pressing the options soft key or the vol- or vol+ while in that screenIf that happens, you can wipe data and cache and check again.

Thank you, that helped, a bit. Got to the stock recovery and was able to wipe all except Dalvik. Perhaps there's no need to wipe dalvik again, it was already wiped before and no app has run since.
However, when I try to install CM10 the installation gets aborted because the signature verification fails. The zip files have been put on the SDcard while the card was in the PC. Will that be it? Is there a way to get them on the SDcard using the Defy+ now?
You can flash only ZIPs signed by Motorola via Stock Recovery. To flash a CM ROM, you need to get CWM on board. For that you need to install 2ndinit. If stock ROM boots successfully, root it and install 2ndinit and then download latest recovery to get CWM.

Sorry, I did read that, understood part of it and managed to install CM7 without any problem.
Now that I re-read parts of it I understand what an SBF is, but still I can't get my PC to see the Defy+. As soon as the battery is placed the phone starts to boot, holding the volume button and subsequently both volume buttons puts it in recovery mode. But than, what can I do to make the computer/RSDlite see the phone?
In that case, try keeping the vol+ pressed, then insert the battery, it should enter to bootloader mode.

Do you have any data on the phone (apps, etc)? Did it go into a bootloop exactly after you flashed the new ROM, or did you manage to boot it?
Turn on phone with volume down+power to boot into bootloader; using fastboot unlock bootloader as you did first. Then you can do anything, I.E. flash full stock factory image and start over if you want.
Never lock the bootloader if you are not completely stock.
You can't get it to boot back into fastboot?

No, I just flashed the PureNexus ROM & gapps, and have not install any apps. Then I reboot to the bootloader and locked the bootloader, when I reboot to the system, I found it go into a bootloop, I have wait 30min, still bootloop. I connected it to the PC, use "adb reboot bootloader", tried to unlock the bootloader, but failed, because I have not turned on the "oem unloclk" in the system.

But still can not be unlocked, and can't go to the system, bootloop.
