Should I update to 2.3.6 from 2.3.5?
What is the difference from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6?
Is it better battery life?
Can I root 2.3.6 and use roms on that version?
You should update it since you do get better battery life than the 2.3.5 version. You also get wifi calling feature added in your phone with 2.3.6. You have to use the SIM card that came with this phone to use wifi calling otherwise you get an error message. You should also call T-Mobile to get free wifi calling added to your plan otherwise the mins get deducted off your plan (unless you have an unlimited call plan)
Yes you can root the 2.3.6 version and use custom roms on them.
If I updated to 2.3.6 then I decided to root the phone. Could I put a 2.3.5 rom on the phone? like Bombaridier V.3.5?
You could, but then you would be back to 2.3.5.
I would update it.. Most roms from this point on will be based on 2.3.6 and bomb hasn't really been updated in a while, though I hear Trich is coming back..

Has anyone looked into adding wifi calling to the 2.3.5 build? I've flashed the new modem and have the new sim card, so I assume the missing components could just be pulled in. 2.3.6 breaks a bunch of bluetooth stuff (HID) which is why I want to stay on 2.3.5.
Wifi calling isn't just the apk and some libs anymore. Porting it to 2.3.5 is likely not going to happen.
So my mom has stock gb non rooted but her android is uses 80%of the battery anyone know what's wrong?
Stock ROM is the problem If I was you.. id root her device and install calkukins GB ROM as it looks stock but has many great tweaks and much better than an awful stock ROM... of course with her permission. You can always also update her phone to the latest android 4.0.4 ICS update.
I have an unlocked ATT S3 which I am using with T-Mobile sim.
I have been recently told that ATT users recevied OTA update 3 weeks back.
I tried to insert ATT SIM and check for updates but it did not work
Any idea how can I get that update ?
Prady.
Just wondering but why would you want a carrier update anyway? If your looking for the Jelly Bean update, it's not out yet. What you can do is just root and flash a JB ROM.

ATT update is good for the phone as it brings in toggle brightness bar and improves battery life
T-Mobile updates if any are also not getting downloaded..
If in case T-Mobile sends any update, will i be able to download that ?

So as I was browsing around the interwebs, I decided to check Sammobile to see if there were any new firmwares.
Turns out T-Mo released a new rom this month (no idea when because I dont check daily) and I would assume its Jellybean.
Here is the Hotfile link they sent me to and I'm downloading it right now.
Its not jellybean, its 4.0.4

Crap, okay....

The improvements are: "Qualcomm fix, Security enhancements, Vlingo S Voice improvements."
I have a stock T989 with the LI1 firmware... it's ICS 4.0.4. The new LI4 version is... ?
I haven't updated because I don't trust that it will be stable yet. I'm getting 36 hours of battery life (with plenty of use!) out of LI1 right now. I don't want it to get all fubar'd again.

Root it the same way as the previous version. The same custom recovery and busybox/SU installer files work properly.

Howdy folks,
I'd like to turn this phone into a WiFi hotspot for my house- and that is ALL I will be using it for.. so my most important needs are reliability (up-time) and rock-solid WiFi tethering performance. Currently the phone is running:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: T989UVLE1
Build Number: IML74K.UVLE1
I do not think it is rooted, I think I just ODIN'd it to the latest Stock ROM available at the time when back when my girlfriend was using it. My first thought was to just find the latest stock ROM (if any) and ODIN to that, then find a reliable root method to flash a good recovery like TWRP, etc... then put the most stable ROM I can find that has reliable tethering... Do you guys have any guides that you can point me to? And any ROM, recovery, etc recommendations for me? Thanks in advance!!! :good: :highfive:
