You need to add a static string, and type it in that.

thanks for the reply... but like i said it looks too confusing.. what you said makes no sense to me lol
Can you explain yourself a little please? thanks

Yea, this app was really confusing to figure out.
You go into the settings, and under Layout go to Custom Layout.
Press the little green plus button and it will bring up different categories. You can drag and drop any of these - time, date, battery - into the rows above.
To just insert a static character, go to the Misc section and drag the "static text" to wherever you want it. Then tap where you dragged it to and it will bring up a text box to enter the character you want. Once I'm done I just press the back button until I get to the main settings menu and then press ok.
Pressing the green box button on the right will insert a new row so you can drag things into it, and the red one will delete rows.

Thanks.
I found a video on youtube too that helped me out aswell

[Q] Some minor questions

Hi!
After spending a few hours searching for answers for simple things, I have to resort to actually ask here. So please how can I:
1. Change the colour/style of taskbar? I mean for it to resemble W6.1, some application like RC MOD.
2. How do I change the menu size/style to the old one? Or at least smaller?
Thanks!
Probably should try asking in the WinMo subforum or the Kaiser-specific one.
Now I'm playing with HTC Touch Pro 2 (my signature is not update ).
some ideas for you

You could try searching for Vicsoft's UI tweaker. It will let you customise lots of system colours
As for your second question, do you mean the start menu ? when you click on the windows icon on the top left corner of your screen ?
If so, you could try JUVS HTC Enlarge start menu. Again, try searching as I can't remember where I found it

This application?

Is it even possible to get back the old style WM61 bars?
As for my second question I meant pop-up (context) menus, but I'v already found some applications which could help.

Yes, that's the one. Be sure to go through all the menus and make a note of your current colour settings, as once you get started, it's easy to forget what you had before.
Interestingly enough, whilst playing around with this utility, (there are actually 4 combined I think?) I was able to change the background colour on the program and settings page , and the signal bars colour on the task bar from white to cream, even though your not supposed to be able to do that
Never was able to replicate it though after a hard reset because I FORGOT to take a note of my settings
I'm not sure what you mean about the menus, sorry
Good luck

[Q] [HELP] Finding correct PNGs

Does anyone know a guide that will tell someone which images in drawable folders are to what? I need a freakin road map. Tired of looking through all of these.
Anyways, I'm trying to find the image to change the USB notification icon (the one that pops up when usb cable connected/charging). Also trying to find the background image(s) that is behind menus such as: Power button options, app selection window, pretty much all windows that pop up on the screen with options.
If someone knows and could point me to the names of these that would be terrific.
Thanks.
Seriously?
Where is the community love? I know someone on XDA knows this stuff.
I'm wondering where the power menu backgrounds are aswell.
Not to steal your thread but I'm looking for the "all apps" header.

Just post over in the dev section. Its the wrong section, you'll get flamed, but your question will probably get answered. Everyone complains "post this in the general/questions section" but everyone knows the only ones getting are themes/mods and the dev.
Sorry I couldn't be constructive and answer your question.

Why don't you dissect an existing theme and see what is changed in that. That's gunna be your best road map. And the usb icon is not in the system, its in PCSC11.apk in system/app

Are you using a Sense ROM or some AOSP variation? Because the .png is in different places and named different for the USB icon. The USB icon is in the frame-res.apk and is called stat_sys_data_usb on AOSP and on Sense its in the PCSCII.apk and is called usb_to_pc_notify. As far as your other question, you pretty much answered your own question. Theyre called popup_.xxx.png. Theres full, medium, dark and bright ones. They control all the pop-ups. Also again it is important which Rom youre using because in AOSP theres only one set in frame-res.apk and on Sense there's two sets one in frame-res and one in htc.resources.apk and you have to change both of them because they pop up for different things.

Sense based. I changed the popup ones but didn't do what I needed. Gonna just change all the menu named ones and should find it hopefully. Thanks for the help.

Changed all the popup_xxx.png that I could find but still didn't change the power options menu (one from holding down power button), the "do you want to add this number into contacts" one, and some other popup menus. Any ideas on where I need to look?
Thanks.

The power options menu icons are buried in com.htc.resources.apk from what I remember. Trying to theme Sense is a huge pain in the ass compared to AOSP since the PNGs are all over the place and there's some that aren't even used packed in there too.
Edit: Wait, just realized that's not what you're looking for, if I'm correct on what you're looking for, I'm not sure where they're at either but it should be framework-res or com.htc.resources.
**Solved**

[Q] can the search bar be removed ?

Nearly every picture of this phone I've seen it has a rather large search bar at the top of the home screen. Can it be removed? If not - could it be removed with root ?

P3Droid has done it...
by far my biggest gripe with ics
Hum. But he didn't say how Hopefully google rethinks this feature of the software. I mean I don't mind it being optional and default but ...

If you remove that ... you need another hack to enable "search".
Because there is no search "key" (virtual key).

They could bind it to long-press task switcher key for example. My x10 did also come without search button but it was bound to long-press menu key. Should be possible with software keys as well, right?

I wouldn't mind so much if they let me resize the damn thing. I know it's important but I really want it a quarter of it's current size.
I think P3Droid did it by modifying Launcher.apk and pushing it back to the device.

thye could let us at least be able to move it.. say to one of the other 5 screens, so its not on the main one
I believe its constant across all 5 homescreens, but I understand what you mean. I assume you mean have only one, and make it available to move around right?
If you are willing to root, then you can do many UI customizations as per P3Droid's mods or Paul_Brian's ROMs. You need root because most involve editing the launcher or framework-res.apk and other system components.
Yea. For me anyways I would rarely use search; so stuffing it in a place where it doesn't take prime space would be nice....; alternatively it could just be an ap that you can put on a screen as desired; or a menu option to enable / disable. Lots of solutions that doesnt' require it to be on every screen at the top...

Considering that you can't use the space that is left when you get rid of the search bar, I personally don't see what all the fuss is about.
You cannot place homescreen shortcuts or any other widget there, since as soon as you pick up an icon or widget to place on the home screen, that area is reserved for the Remove/App Info/Uninstall prompt.
So the only result of getting rid of the search bar would be a blank space that can serve no function at all. If I had to choose between a blank space that cannot be utilised, over a search bar...I'd choose search bar.
Or just download a different launcher. My HC tablet has the Google Search widget at the top-left corner that is static. A quick ADW EX download and bada-bing, bada-boom.
I'm running ICS CM7 theme on my G2x and I kinda like the search bar's location. Eventually I'd like to replace it with a clock or weather widget, but I don't stick with the stock launcher very long.
Ack I though the space could be used (I do not yet have the phone). That is also sad

When you disable google search it doesn't remove the permanent widget?

I find its design rather pointless, as soon as you click in the search box you're taken to another slightly smaller search box which has none of the transparency of the first...

How about a complet transparent search bar? You couldn't see it but it's there and if you know it you can use it.
The search bar should remain a widget, as it used to be. That would give users the most options, which is what Android is about.

Where did the option to switch to 2010 xda site go?

Hi all,
As per the title... Where did the option to switch to 2010 xda site go? No offense but I absolutely HATE this new site layout and up till yesterday I had been presented with the option to use the 2010 site layout but it seems that option has now been removed.
I am sure I am not the only one who prefers the old style of the site over this new one so is it possible to at least put the option back us so we can choose?
It wouldnt be so bad except that the new site does not scale properly and you have to constantly use the bottom scroll bar to see what it is your reading or looking for and that is annoying as hell!
Please advise...
Just scroll down to the very bottom of the page in the left hand corner and change the drop down theme to XDA 2010. Or go down to the bottom of your options page and change the skin.

WOW!!! Do I feel dumb... Lol... The option used to be up top by the logo and now that its gone I thought the option was as well.
Thanks for the kick in the pants!!! LOL!!!
Also, for those that want to keep the new theme on the site but are having the "not scaling properly" issue as I mentioned, scroll over to the right and in the top corner there is a button that will activate the "side Bar" which will then push everything you need to see into the screen.

Power menu text color..

does anybody know how to change the text color for the "power off",and so on?. ive managed to changed almost every menu/system text to black ,and i just cant seem to find the values for the power menu
This would be a good place to start-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2125196
