Short introduction:
This rom is based on the stock EUR XXLA2 ROM, its zipaligned and deodexed with Overclock kernel onboard.
It has some little tweaks, but makes the phone really a lot more responsive, the system is rooted , has busy box and superuser in it.
With this rom you will be able to restore from Titanium backup or any other program, with even te user settings, without breaking your phone software, as in the slim rom's.
I did build this ROM from scratch with the kitchen tool.
Installation:
1. Root your phone.
2. Enable recovery with Clockwork mod from Arco (prefered) or RZR.
3. Download the ROM.
4. Put the zip into Internal SD
5. Boot into ClockWorkMod / RZRecovery, backup your current ROM using nandroid (just in case) then, Wipe: system, cache and Dalvik cache, use Install menu to install it.
The Funny part:
Now this ROM has a few funny parts, after logging in the first time you wil see that you can make a choice of the type of launcher you want to use, the standard launcher or the fast Zeam launcher (prefered).

Go to System settings > Applications > Manage applications.
Now, in the donwloaded application list you wil see a list of programs.
These programs can be safely removed after you have restored your phone from a backup.
This will free more RAM on your phone!
OK, now its time the restore apps en data (user) settings from a backup you made with Titanium, MyBackup Root or any other program.
After this make sure to reboot your phone, and see if all you apps are working, mail , whatsapp etc. etc.
Now you can safely remove these apps from the downloaded list we talked about!
The OC part:
This kernel has overclocking capabilities to even make your phone more powerfull then it already is!
For you guys who don't know what overclocking is:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking
Depending on the quality of you phone's processor and how lucky you are, will determ how far you can go with overclocking, i noticed that processors for our phone are very good overclockable, so should be in most cases no problem.
OK, grab the program SetCPU for free and install it on you phone and open this program.
Now set it first to 1600, play for a while with you your phone (games etc.), if it's stable you can try 1800, again play some games and see if its holding.
If it does now you can enable "Set on boot" setting
Optional:
SetCPU has the possibility to work with profiles, a very usefull option!
To save battery life you can make profiles like this, and save battery life.
Ofcourse this is only an example, and you can set it to your needs!
I want to thank Kezra for all his work that made it possible to do this, Arco for providing the Clockworkmod recovery and THE-E for the root instructions.
And a very special thanks to Cowithgun for providing me the kernel and motivating me to build this rom!
Disclaimer: I am not responsible if you brick your phone I tried it and it worked!

Its perfectly running on two devices here!

Just installed it. So far running great. Restore with titanium went fine, including system restore. Now it is time to test my CPU speed and remove the unneeded apps. Thanks for the great work!
EDIT: 1.8 GHz froze, running @ 1.6 GHz now
Flashed ICS_V2 theme. Went fine. Will experiment some more during the next few days...

Just installed your ROM for 6 hours now...so far so good...
Thanks alot Tux....
Hope its oke for tomorrow....
Meantime I just monitoring the battery use....
Thanks for this ROM TUX.
I got bootloop here too.
I think this doesn't work with Asian handsets flashed with the EURO stock ROM.
Just a guess.
my phone froze once at 1.6 GHz and even once at 1.5 GHz. Maybe I just have bad luck with oc-ing.
If I have some more freezes I'll go back to max 1.4 GHz...
PS, I have euro handset

Will give the rom a try on monday soar head to many fizzy drinks last night...
@tux,
i am interesting with the rom. can u just post one with normal kernel (non-oc) one? all the other remain the same like the oc rom. i think this will benefit so much for people with problematic phone sets which cannot run with oc kernel.

OK, i will be making this on request of some users, but it will be the V2 version
Upcoming tonight, stay tuned!
Battery life so far: still 75% after 10 hours of use. Wifi on all the time. 1 hour outdoor run with 3G and GPS. Mainly idle for the rest of the time.
Never saw such good battery life. I guess it is due to the underclocking when asleep. Max CPU freq 1.5 GHz.

V2 OC and NON OC added !
Again i did test it with a full restore from Titanium, and again it did hold!

FroydVillain 1.1.9 INFO & Release Notes:
Hi folks, ninpo has been working on this one non-stop for the past few days, so he is having a well-earned rest, and I'll write up this release.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
REMEMBER the ROM will only be at peak performance after it's been rebooted a couple of times, and when you've opened your apps once prior.
adb install won't work on this ROM, until you tick "Unknown Sources" in the Menu > Settings > Applications menu.
This appears to be a new security feature. Similarly, apps pushed to /data/app won't work either. You might not notice the issue, but the app does not get any of its permissions it should have, meaning that it is probably useless, and might FC constantly or whatever. So remember to tick the Unknown Sources box
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
When you install this ROM, DO NOT USE GOOGLE BACKUP OR RESTORE. It really slows the ROM down, like all Froyo ROMs, and it uses loads of battery even when you think you're not doing anything. So it's not cool. So turn it off in the setup wizard
This ROM does NOT come with the optimal kernel installed. It comes with a safe one. You NEED to read the section "kernels" below for more information about these, and which to choose Then, once installed, open the app "CPUSpeed" and set up your CPU speeds. This ROM uses the interactive governor, which gives much better battery than other governors... So, set interactive as the main governor, then set your minimum and maximum. Then repeat this for sleep mode. If you have a 352MHz base kernel, set both the max and min sleep speeds to be 352 MHz
So... What's changed?
[*]CAMERA WORKS FOR VIDEO AND PHOTOS (thx cyanogen)
Includes DSPManager
Autobrightness fixed
Includes new CPUSpeed app- no need for SetCPU
Faster boot process
New boot animation
Pressing menu twice will unlock screen
Big kernel changes (more info to follow)
Different build method to improve binary performance
So... How do I get it?
A full wipe is MANDATORY for this ROM, regardless of what you're upgrading from
See here for download information etc.

awesome rom, tested a bit and i'm finally gonna drop my 2.1
Just FYI, the two kernel variants (19MHz base or 352MHz base) are for the two different types of Hero users. One group apparently cannot put their phone to sleep at anything less than 352MHz or all hell breaks loose and the others can set low speeds no problem.
So choose based on your past overclocking methods.
EDIT: I'll post a kernel changelog tomorrow. Too tired now. Lots and lots and lots and lots of fixes though.
Just one more quick little question if y'all don't mind.
Does this release include the stock keyboard dictionaries that were missing in 1.1.1? Like Dutch etc.

just flash - or do a dalvik wipe before kernel-flash?
Ok, awesome rom. There is some strange thing in the settings menu - "@221390573215" or something. Pressing it causes a FC.
No need to wipe anything when flashing a kernel.

Yeah it's a bug, my fault. I cheat and use Cyanogen's repo so I don't have to make my own Hero vendor/devices. I didn't strip CMparts out properly in this one.
This is an alpha release!
It is nowhere as stable and tested as Speedmod itself!
What it is?
All I did was to compile Speedmod (To be honest, I'm clueless what gizmos are sitting there, but its great)
Credit should go to hardcore. He is author of this kernel, I'm responsible for breaking it and making bugs.
What did you break?
+ OC/UV features (this might fry your device)
+ some clock changes to keep it stick more to 100mhz (should be at least)
+ preemptive config (needs testing)
* optimised for size (not sure if this is good)
* noop is being the default scheduler (i just like it)
* 341MB ram (if someone is curious about this)
- everything I have broken along the way (maybe nothing)
So (as you can see) its pretty alpha
How do I?
Just flash the CWM package.
This kernel is being tested on
Insanity ROM

, which I personally use.
If you want some more power, extras like nitrality (Ha I bet you dont know what it is!) I recommend you flashing this one.
By default no OC is applied. You need to download and use Voltage Control.
BE SURE TO USE LATEST (3.0.1)
Voltage Control app!
Voltage Control in Adroid Market:
Wooah, I think its stable...
You can never be sure.
My device freezes just after going into menu in Asphalt 5 (Samsung apps), so thats the test I can recommend.
I suggest you do the following:
OC 1120Mhz -> 1x Asphalt race,
OC 1200Mhz -> 1x Asphalt race,
OC 1280Mhz -> 1x Asphalt race.
If that is stable.. Well you can be 99% sure, but you know, 1% off one week is ****loads of time ;p
Why?
Because I can
Consider this a tribute to all developers who constantly work on improving Galaxy S kernels!
Then tell me who was that?
- hardcore - its his source
- sztupy - excellent recovery
- supercurio - sound fixes, lagfix ideas
- raspdeep, unhelpful, laststufo, trasig -> oc code
- all others involved, sorry if I missed anyone! (its late)
- personal thanks to nitr8 - support and testing, some recovery tweaks (more coming, if hardcore releases sources for recovery)
So what you gonna do?
Basically wait for feedback. As always it will be mixed.
I dont have many plans for this kernel, I will just upgrade with every new Speedmod (well, if time will allow).
However, I dont want to release kernel more than once a week.
Erm, sources, bit#^?
See: insane.7z (fixed)
Its code prior cleaning, some leftovers are there.
Lots of debug info, to track whats going on (kmsg is disabled in release, so they dont work anyway)
F...udge! I'm stuck at bootlogo!
Flash back your previous kernel and disable lagfix from recovery!
F...udge! My device is totally unstable
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/stats/time_in_state
Check it after few mins of runnning. If it goes over desired frequency -> report here with output

Did you have a lagfix on as K13c only reads rfs and EXT4 ?? I flashed over DamianGTO and it was fine, but I disabled lagfix first
Have you plan to make a better settings in the kernel that working without be unstable?
Have you tried it on the source from Samsung?
Why i ask is that is a better way to sort out all unstable stuff and make it stable.
Then add other tweaks/ addon and look what happens.
Maby you are the one that can make uv/oc stable.
Good luck..

Thanks for the kind word, but I'm sorry - dont have high hopes.
I fixed what was obvious. I dont have deep understanding of those functions.
Let me try - enabled JFS on sys and sd with SOK - does not work with hardcore's kernel.
Checking now...
I just did a few tests with an OC at 1.2 Ghz, and for me it seems to be pretty stable atm, I have no freeze etc, and the phone seems to be smoother. But I've tested for 10 minutes so, I'll give you a more consistant feedback tomorrow.
For information, I ran a Quadrant test (I know it means nothing, but just for numbers), and without lagfix it gives :
- 1180 with no OC/UV
- 1270 @1.12Ghz
- 1390 @1.20Ghz
Thank you a lot for your work xan !

I know I know, it was just for those "Quadrant numbers' fanboyzzz" .
Changed FS for system and SD/DATA to RFS - flashed xan's hardcore-based oc/uv kernel and...it worked...device booted and seems to accept prior set voltage control levels. Converted both sytem and data partitions to EXT4 now. Seems okay so far.
Will post in case of any issues...
Hey, im doing the samething over in the captivate section, basically I used k12p, at the time that was what was out, but I've updated to every release hardcore put out..I've tried many different things and you can grab my sources if you want, some stuff didn't play well with speedmod, it might save you some headaches... there's a link to my sources and a changelog in the OP, I recently start using something similar to trasigs oc/uv code also, made a few changes, but its worked well... just figured id let ya know, maybe give you some ideas and save some hassel as well..

The problem with this version of CWM / CF-ROOT still persists - rebooting when using root functions. In the paid version of Titanium Backup, you can freeze and backup apps no problem. Also, integrating app updates into ROM also works. Uninstalling system apps mostly works - the tab reboots after the uninstall is complete. You are not able to restore backups of uninstalled system apps because the tab reboots before the process begins.
I will continue testing an report anything else I find. Thanks again for your great work!

I haven't had any issues with uninstalling system apps with Titanium. They uninstall and...that's it. Admittedly I didn't uninstall that much, the wife actually likes some of the bloatware, believe it or not.
As for restoring backups of uninstalled system apps, I personally never bother backing them up in the first place. I've copied the contents of the entire /system/app folder and kept it safe on the external SDCard. That way, I can just reinstall them if I want them, or if I'd made a hideous mistake while theming.
I use Titanium once if I'm reflashing something back to stock and then it gets uninstalled. But that's just me.

Hey Ticklefish
I saw your post in the CWM thread created by Skin1980, about how you do all system changes in through the recovery menu. I'd quite like to know if this rom plays better with making changes (like restoring apps via titanium backup) in the OS and not have to go through recovery? It would just be a convenience to do the 1-click restore of all my apps with titanium, that's why I'm asking.

I restore system apps by using an app like ES File Explorer to copy them from my sdcard to the /system folder, setting the right permissions, moving them into the /framework or /app folder. I might have to do a quick reboot then to get them properly installed.
I could install them through the recovery menu, if I wanted, by using ADB but there isn't really much point.
If you'd rather use Titanium and do it that way, then go for it. It is a lot simpler, to be sure.
Now when I say 'system apps' here, I'm actually meaning things like your browser, soft keyboard, etc. Making changes through recovery is more for changing the actual workings of your device. That's things like altering your framework-res.apk or your SystemUI..things that control the actual device itself.

Omg, you are soo fast.

This is a cleaner version of the stock gingerbread rom. There's no JIT, OC, improved libraries or anything like that. Give it time, we've only just worked out how to put roms on this thing! lol

Instructions
1. Backup your apps (I use Titanium Backup) Make a Nandroid in case you want to go back to your old Setup.
2. If you don't have an EXT partition, you need one for Link2SD. You can use the built in one in clockwork or mini partition tool for PC, (mine is EXT4 1024MB) I also have a 512mb linux swap partition as this kernel supports swap and journaling.(make sure all partitions are set to primary).
3. Wipe Data, cache, and Dalvik.. then flash my Rom (First Boot will take around 3 mins)
4. Proceed with system setup as normal except dont sign in to google yet.
5. Setup Link2sd.. Launch the app choose your EXT partition go to settings and select auto link apps (now every app you install will be linked to the EXT partition..conserving your internal memory).
6. Setup Nofrills.. choose your preferred settings and click apply on boot.
7. Setup adfree
8.Restart Phone
9. Sign in to google and restore all of your apps and settings (via Google or Titanium) and they will be Auto-Linked to the EXT partition.
10. Enjoy

best rom ever
Sorry guys I hit enter in the wrong feild and posted an incomplete thread
thanx for being a total a$$ hat matteo.

Thanks jermzii for the rom.
Can I use this without links2sd?
When I tried another rom with links2sd everytime I installed an app in that rom it would reboot after installation and the app would not be installed.
Sent from my modded Cm7.2 Wildfire S @806MHz S-off and loved!!!
You shouldn't have a problem with Link2sd on this rom but if you really dont want to use it, I suggest flashing View attachment Data2sdV2withA2sdremover_by_jikantaru.zip in recovery right after rom install.
I have flashed this Rom without any link or data2sd and it is all working fine.
Infact I've gotta hand it to you jermzii this is one hell of a rom on so far.
It feels so fast and has a lot of free space nearly 100mb on system partition.
What I did was install all my apps eg maps gmail Google etc and moved them to the system partition with titanium backup, I also integrated dalvik into Rom again using titanium.
I now have over 100mb phone memory free and a very fast feeling phone.
Thanks again mate.
One thing any chance of a stock font update zip this font is nice but a bit hard to read in places.
MESSAGE FOR ANYONE WONDERING IF THEY SHOULD TRY THIS ROM
ANSWER - YES YOU SHOULD!
Jermzii one small bug I have is that under quick settings the mobile network button tick box doesn't work for some reason, it just won't tick.
But just a minor issue, I think this is my new daily Rom.
Stock fonts are up!
I noticed that too just an error with the mod i'll mention it to efl2009

Another FANTASTIC ROM, jermzii! I am enjoying your work immensely!
No problems with it so far (you even managed to squeeze a few more MBs of space in the internal storage, compared with your last ROM! Sweet!) but I do have one minor issue: That boot animation has got to go.
I'm heading to the UOT kitchen right now to see what I can throw together. (Where do you store the boot animation in this ROM?)
Other than that, it's perfect (so far). I'll keep testing and let you know if anything turns up.
Thanks again,
- Anthony
Awesome Work
Hi,
Just 4 a test, i installed and used your ROM, working very nice and fast, nice ROM for those who don't like HTC sense.
I am fan of HTC sense, so i am not using this but i appreciating your work.
Keep it up.
GPS bug? Anyone else?
Hey jermzii,
It seems like this ROM is breaking my GPS.
I removed, wiped, and put back stock and GPS is fine. So it seems isolated to the ROM.
The odd thing is that I never had this problem with your NonSense ROM, nor with any of the Mindhaxer ROMs that use the same kernel your ROM is based on. Bizarre.
I'm using your OC'ed kernel. I'll try it again right now with your stock and report my findings.
Other than that, it's a perfect ROM.
Cheers,
- Anthony

Gps is super quick for me mate.
Why not try and flash one of the gps fixes found in this forum.
Or you could try this:
Goto settings- applications- and delete the data for network location.
Then make sure mobile data is enabled and run you gps
Software.
It may take longer than usual to get a fix but once it does it should work pretty quick, like less than 20 seconds.
Hi jermzii
In your original post it says you added flash player 11 but its not installed for me.
The strangest thing is when I install it manually it doesn't work, it says it is installed under manage applications but the file size stays at 4mb when normally I install it it installs as 12.65mb also it gives me no option to move it so I'm guessing its not really installing but just copying the apk file.
It's not a major problem for me anyway just thought I'd let you know.
This is now officially my new favorite Rom for the moment.
Thanks.
Android 4.3.1 ROM based on Cyanogenmod 10.2 nightlies
Tweaked for performance and battery life while retaining a stock CM experience. This rom is for the people out there who love CM and want to see it fly.
Want to see this rom go even faster? Use Nova or Apex launcher, and, inside developer options, set window animation scale, transition animation scale, and animator duration scale all to 0.5x.
Additions like HALO are not included to keep the bloat down, but can be included in future releases upon popular demand. I'm open to all suggestions or requests.
Changes from CM:
performance tweaks
network speed tweaks
sd read/write tweaks
other build.prop changes
zipaligned
init.d script support
uber kernel
compiled with linaro
custom boot animation
Viper Audio
removed stock apps:
CMFileManager.apk
CMWallpapers.apk
DSPManager.apk
LiveWallpapers (removed all live wallpapers, but live wallpaper picker left in place so you can still use your own)
(Think any other stock apps are just bloat and can be removed? Let me know)
Installation Instructions:
Warning: by installing this rom you accept all risks of modifying your phone. If anything goes wrong, whether it be bricking the phone or Godzilla attacking you, you take full responsibility.
Must be on a newer recovery and baseband, same deal as all other 4.3 roms.
1. Download the rom and 4.3 GAPPS to your phone.
2. Full wipe (cache, dalvik, system and data) if coming from a different rom or Android version, only cache and dalvik wipe if upgrading from a previous version of this rom or from stock CM
3. Install the rom
4. Install the GAPPS
5. Install any other kernels or mods you like (I'm personally a fan of the Fly On Mod)
6. Reboot. Wait until it finishes and boots up fully
Optional: 7. Give it 10 minutes to settle.
Recommended: 8. Install TricksterMod and change the governor from interactive. I prefer InterectiveX or OnDemandX, both of which go nicely with sio

Viper Audio Tips
Run the Viper app to set up the audio. You can choose between regular ound quality, super quality, or battery saving quality.
If you want to use any other sound mods along side Viper (I'm a fan of Noozxoide), be sure to go into the Viper app, hit the settings key and turn on the "compatible mode"
Want better sound quality? Check out the Impulse Response Sampling starter pack here: http://vipersaudio.com/blog/?page_id=115
Head to Viper's homepage for more info about this awesome mod: http://vipersaudio.com/blog/
Special Thanks: To Cl3Kener, for his Uber kernel and his awesome Develop Now! guide.
To Team Chopsticks, and the Cyanogenmod crew.
To fcortes626, ViPER520 and zhuhang.
To Samsung, Google, XDA, and anyone else I forgot to mention (let me know and I'll add you to the list)

There's an issue with the current version that may cause some overheating and lowers performance, building a fixed version now. It should be up soon!
By the way, themes used in the screenshot (not included since they're from the Play store) Hologlass [beta] (which is free) and Minimal UI for the icons (costs 1.50, and is worth it). Launcher is Nova Launcher.

EDIT: OP updated with new download link (or get it here: https://copy.com/zaO810YHgIMG ). I'd recommend wiping system if you've already flashed 10-23-13 (data should be fine, doesn't need to be wiped).
Thanks for providing us with yet another choice to flash. If I end up in rehab because I can't quit flashing I'm going to blame all the XDA Dev's.
I did a full wipe while installing but during the initial set-up I kept getting SOD's and freeze ups. I wiped and re-flashed several times but ended up with the same results. Any suggestions on what to try next? Thanks again for this.
That's odd, I didn't have any issues with the initialization thing. Is it locking up on a specific page? Maybe try giving it a few minutes to settle, then reboot and initialize once it starts back up again. This might be an issue with how the rom is using the default governor, performance is oddly bad until you change it from interactive.

That makes sense. I've read where some ROMs don't perform well until you change the governor. Through out my attempts I was able to get to the home screen only once. I usually let it settle for 5 minutes. I'll let it settle for 10 and see how it goes.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Edit: Still no go. Same thing as before. I made it as far as downloading Trickster and was able to change the governor and it ran for a few minutes then froze on me. Not sure what else to do.
That's really odd, I've been running the rom just fine :/ It's freezing up after initialization as well? But still, thanks for still trying out the rom and letting me know about the issues Building a new version now, it should be posted early tomorrow. Changes include cm update, linaro update, and even more build.prop tweaks. It should be much faster than the current version!
Edit: On a side note, mind if I ask which recovery and gapps you're using? I'm on twrp 2.6.1.0, with the regular 20130813 signed gapps, and lag at initialization was noticable but not cripplingly bad. No freezes or reboots for me either :/
Edit again: New download link is up in the op, or get it here: https://copy.com/dgUwgEErqVnl
Let me know how the performance is!
New version seems to be much quicker than before! I tried a full wipe with it and had no lag at all, not even with the default governor.

New twrp being 2.6.1.3 or .4? I've heard some people complain about issues with it, from what I could tell 2.6.1.0 seemingly being more stable. But the newest update for the rom is much more responsive, just give it a try and let me know how it goes
