Hello.
This is really scare and after hours and hours of searching and reading I decided to ask here - all the problems I found were similar but not exact...
So here is my situation:
I have an "HTC Wildfire", which was updated to Android 2.2.1 official update. After that I understood how wrong was I doing so. Anyway just recently I managed to root it by following tutorial. I stopped when I got root - in other places it says that Revolutionary installs CWM itself.
So when I completed the rooting and confirmed it - everything was fine. I was very happy. But I did not try to reboot again until yesterday when I figured I'll install a new system font.
It installed the font and asked to reboot. I pressed YES and everything froze. I waited for 5 minutes and decided it froze - so I pulled out the battery (had no other choice), waited a minute or two, putted it back in and powered on the phone.
It gets to the white screen with green letters saying "HTC" and that is as far as it would go - waited for half an hour - nothing.
So did some research and figured I'll install a custom ROM.
I downloaded the latest CyanogenMod 7 with Google apps, renamed to update.zip, placed in the root of SD card, booted up the HBOOT screen (volume down + power button) and selected RECOVERY. It went into another screen where there is a phone picture with red triangle and exclamation mark in the middle, at the bottom it says "E:can't open /cache/recovery/command". I googled it up and many said to just ignore it, so I did.
Then following video guide I got up to the point where I have to install from update.zip and it fails there saying:
Finding update package
Openinng update package
Verifying update package
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
So now I have no data, no cache partition and no phone.
These are the specs of the phone reported by Revolutionary HBOOT:

Sorry but I cannot provide links to external websites for now
Relax, it isn't bricked. FAR from it.
The reason you get that error is because you are using the stock recovery. Flash a new one via PC49IMG process (recovery file (place on your SDcard, and reboot into HBoot Mode. It will detect the file, and ask to install. Simply select Yes.)
Then, reboot into recovery, wipe data, cache and system (although I don't suppose you have these anyway), then choose install zip from SDCard, choose your CM .zip, let it run, then choose the GApps .zip and let that run, then reboot.
Problem Solved.
Well that one worked. Thanks. I'll enjoy now my new toy

you just have to flash another recovery via unrevoked and then open recovery and flash cm7 and google apps from it
and your phone is temporarily bricked not permanently.

That is not the definition of bricked. Bricked is when the phone cannot boot, probably not into the boot loader and definitely not recovery.

I don't know what I did wrong. After downloading a moddet statusbar vor Oxygen 0.2 I wanted to reboot into recovery and it took me very long. It freezed. After pulling the battery and setting it back in and pushing the power button my desire vibrated in 3 short intervals.
Since that I can't boot into the os or into recovery. Only thing that is working is the bootloader and the fastboot.
First thing I tryed is to flash (with fastboot) a new recovery but nothing changed. still it freezes at the splash screen.
I also downloaded official o2 rom from their homepage. But I think they want me to run the .exe while in android. A error comes up and tells me that it can't find a phone.
official htc roms don't work too. one told me that I'm not allowed to install this particular rom and an other official rom keeps exiting with error code: 170 telling me that the usb connection couldn't be established or something like this.
is there something else I can try?
I googled and searched the board. Tryed to boot into recovery without microSD card too but still no success.
help
Unpack the Rom and get the image out of the file...
Rename it to pb99img.zip dump only that on the root of your sdcard and boot into hboot .
T i d y .
Or just look on shiped roms for an 02 pb99img.zip and download then rename
T i d y .
Thank you so much. I already tryed this with 3 different pb99img images and had always the same error (CID). One of them was a o2 uk rom. So I gave up on trying it this way. But I didn't know that it could be extracted from every rom.
Now I think every thing is working again. Thank you.
Oh well ... I destroyed it again. Like I said I was able to install official o2 rom and everything was working again. After that I wanted to root it with unrevoked 3.21 but it freezed at "waiting for reboot". So I had to pull the battery once again.
But now I can't even enter bootloader. Only a screen pops up with htc in the middle and with four ! in every corner of the display.
Tryed to install official o2 rom again. It can find it and starts installing but at the end of the installation it stops with an error:
error [110]: error while opening data. Tryed it 3 times but always the same.
This might work for you
WAIT, BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A GOLDCARD. IT IS VERY NECESSARY. THINGS WILL GO WRONG IF YOU DONT.
EDIT: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BOOT GO TO THE BOOTLOADER MENU.
Firstly, download this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP
Extract the files.
Run the win-down.bat file.
Follow on screen instructions.
After the process is completed, Head to the root of your SD card and check if there is a file named P99***IMG (FORGOT THE EXACT NAME BUT IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS) there should be one.
Secondly, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
After that boot up your phone while pressing the volume down button and the power button.
The bootloader should be checking for files after awhile and once it found the file that is supposed to be in the root of your sd card, press the volume up button (NOT EXACTLY SURE, SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT SAYS YES AND CONTINUE)
It should be writing files to your phone. and replaces everything. E.G: HBOOT, RECOVERY,RADIO and such.
It should be writing files successfully and then it would ask you to reboot. Continue with the reboot and you should be having your Desire back to stock. Perfect.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED LIKE FAILURE OF WRITING TO THE HBOOT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. MAINLY, DO NOT BLAME ME FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG.
FINALLY, YOU SHOULD BE READING EVERYTHING UP TO HERE AND THAT YOU MUST HAVE A GOLDCARD (A GOLD SD CARD)
Hope this helps you and please ask if you have further questions. PM me if the questions cannot be answered here. Good Luck
You have to have a working Goldcard and be able to access HBOOT to do the above
Nevermind.
I send it to o2. Since I was able to install the official RUU once I think they will take care of it.
What happend is:
For some reason I wasn't able to boot my phone. Recovery wasn't working too. Only thing that was working was Bootloader and Fastboot.
Just to sum up what I tryed:
Installing new recovery didn't help. I was able to install official o2 RUU and everything was working. But I lost my root. I think it had HBoot 0.930001
So I wanted to root it again with unrevoked 3.21
It started well and rebootet one or two times. But at the thirt reboot attempt it juft freezed and nothing was happening. I don't know what I did wrong?
is unrevoked 3.21 really able to root a phone with hboot 0.930001?
As I said ... if faild and after that I couldn't even enter Bootloader or Fastboot.
So I send it to o2 and hope they fix it.
But now I am really scared to root it again. If it fails again ... what will they think if I send it after 3 days again to them.

janielsen's idea seems crazy but give it a try..
put it in the freezer for few minutes then take it out
and then try to get into recovery mode..
you'll be able to do that
if you see a triangle with ! mark at the center that means it's a serious hardware issue and we can't do anything about that you have to send it to htc service center
Ha, funnily enough I did try the freezer thing but that didn't work either. What did work was booting into fast boot, connecting the usb and flashing with an official RUU in windows.
The phone is still stuffed!!!
It now has an official htc rom, no root, no mods, nothing... just stock!
But whenever it has to do a bit more processing like viewing a complex web page with flash, playing a game, downloading from the market it resets itself. Why?
I am starting to think it's a hardware problem but I need confirmation. I tried different roms but I get the same result. Has anyone has the same experience???
well i have sent my phone in fore repare the trick whit the freezer is only so u can unroot it so they cant see that it has bien rooted
the problem is that the cpu is getting to hot
Hey janielsen,
I had a feeling it was a hardware problem, because it only resets when it's doing a lot of processing.
But what can they do? Replace the CPU? Did they say how much it costs?
I bought my phone second hand so I don't have warranty.
yes u have warrenty because htc can see by the imei when the garanty is running out
they will replace the mainboard

I'm also having the same issue however doing S-OFF and then trying it again does not fix it for me . Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Just to confirm, you are rooted and have S-OFF, turned phone off but now when you try to turn phone on you get the red triangle? Or when you try to get back to recovery?
What version of CWM recovery are you using?
What step of the guide did you get to?
Im using this guide..

I can boot into the android OS but when I try to use CWM (3.0.2.6) and install ROM from SD Card the red triangle with the ! mark comes up.
Yes I am rooted and I did the S-OFF
Not sure if it matters but I don't have an update.zip file on my sd card.

Hello,
after release (Roottato) I could successfully installed the ROM MIUI 2.3.7c following the guide on the first post,
ok just do not know why I did not have root permissions,
So I tried to redo the unlocking with Advanced Hack Kit Ace, but at some point you are stuck staying the screen that says HTC, I waited about 30 minutes pensado he was working, but nothing, I disconnected everything and then when I turned the phone on me HTC was always marked with the white screen,
Then I went into recovery planning to clean up everything and reinstall the ROM, but going into recovery I check a phone icon with the red triangle,
them by pressing vol + and power gives me this error "E: Can not open / cache / recovery / command"
I up the options between which "apply sdcard_update.zip"
the start and it says it can not find the file.
how can I fix this?
ok problem solved : D
How was this solved?
Sent from my Motorola Startac running ICS.
First I put the file on the SD-PD98IMG GB2.zip (renamed PD98IMG.zip) in the zipped file aahk-17122011, so I went to recovery. The DHD has asked me if I wanted to continue with the update: accepted, and 5-time ', my DHD was working again and downgraded
So I repeated the procedure for rootarlo BUT before you press 1, on the advice of my guardian angel of the development team dell'aahk, I pressed t, because 'the DHD appears to have problems with fastboot: all went smoothly!

Let the guy tell us first what he was trying to do/wants to achieve, after that we can start giving instructions...
Lemme start from the top till last night I was just another noob with a stock DHD... I began on reading the guides as to changing roms and **** first from addictivetips and then from sea forums ... so after all those reads I was finally able to reach until that clockwork recovery mod 3.0.0.6 ... once ii got there I didn't know what to do next as the guide just said after reaching clockwork mod I should just restart my phone did tht .... phone restarted fine now I went to ROM manager to check for the roms I saw a tweak and clicked it ... the window opened asking to backup and wipe data ... I just clicked wipe ... the phone went into tht clockwork screen started up with he new Rom.... after 25 mins I see tht nothing had changed on my cell and rather then getting new Rom I was just on my basic Rom and tht I didn't see those superuser, Rom manager abd even my own apps ... pissed me off so j factory reset the phone ...formatted the SD through pc and gave a fresh go like attempting the Rom on a right out of the box kinda desire ...
After working now the thing is o have rooted my phone again with those same steps ... just that this time once i restarted my phone through tht clockwork thing pressing my power off button so now when I goto enter into the recovery manager or even anyother I see an error msg of privelledge ... one more thing when I open th supweuser app I don't see Rom manager as allowed I just see
Visionary
Terminal emulator
As allowed
I hope understand what I have been through !
try and remove rom manager then re-install, when you try to reboot into recovery it will ask you about super user access you need to press "allow"
Done tht still giving the same error me and my ****ing luck ! Please someone

12.Go to rom manager And click on Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, let it download and flash recovery again.(idont know y but some users reported as an important step). and restart ur phone.
13.copy and paste the custom rom you want to flash in your sd card(Renaming it as PG76IMG.zip)
Here is the link of Best ever Cutom rom If you dont have any Rename the zip to PG76IMG .
14.Go to rom manager and tap to install rom from sd and locate the PG76IMG.zip.
(after selecting the PG76IMG.zip a ROM Pre- Installation pop will ask you to wipe Data and chache, and wipe Dalivik chache please tick the both) Backup existing rom is not recommended because it takes much time
15.When PHONE will restarts it will show only the four white keys with complete black screen,Without touching the keys wait for 20 mints as it is.(if restarts you will get your custom rom flashed)......if not...
Remove the battery and normaly switch on your phone and repeat the step 6.
this time it will surely get flashed within 10 mints.
Do remember if custom rom flashing dosent starts and interrupted, your device will be safe. if it starts flashing and interrupted in between and you are not willing to start your phone normally.
Then Follow This tutorial and Make your Mobile Phone working again
Remember : if you will select backup current rom it will take another 20 mints.(i will not suggest you to do so)

Forget about the post above finally...I've stopped having black screen I don't know how but there's something I've noticed...see:
***Unlocked*** - New Thing
Marvel S-OFF
Hboot - 1.09.0099 - New Thing
And now when I select recovery mode...I have this...
First an android phone down with a green logo like something sync and inside it an arrow upside down maybe download...then after that it disappears to show another Android Phone....and next to it there's a Triangle with an Exclamation Mark in it...so what have I done wrong...??
i think that's stock recovery that's not yet cwm have you flashed it is step 10???
NOT SOLVED! You need to change the title of this thread!
I have the same problem with my brand new Wildfire S.
I try to enter in CWM and it turns black. Almost bricked it with the solution above. I had to reinstall system.img and recovery.img manually with fastboot to fix it.
Mine arrived yesterday. My wife has the same phone but a few months older. Running CWM without issues.
Rommanager acknowledged that CWM is installed.
We need to find a solution for this. It is really a pain in the... . Just imagine you cannot recover your phone.

above steps are not a miracle.
Its a way cwm install Custom recovery from Ui of your phone, and relax i have not tempered or shared any links which are incompatible.
Its a way thats it ,its a default process of cwm for which it is designed for.
what a change here is you cant see anything, but cwm is still doing its work inside.
Ihave done several reserch and finally found that HTC has changed or improved Its Video Chip or firmware. which is incompatible with Cwm currently.
Above situations you have explained are not a sign of bricked phone dear...
follow this thread and make your device awake.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467844.
Remember bricking your phone means,(No way to make your phone alive) and this happens when bootloader is erased,in my case bootloader cant be uprooted in any circumstances.
so feel free work on these steps.

Yesterday I got my second Wildfire S with the firmware version 2.13.401.3 and I have successfully unlocked my bootloader via HTCDev. The flash process from the ClockworkMod 5.0.2.8 is completed successfully but the screen stays black for me too. Now I had tried this tutorial but it does not work for me. Then I had the HTC update the firmware version 2.26.401.3 and flashed now I can not even get root privileges. I had read something here now because of the Dalvik cache Wipen but what is the ADB to command? Thank you in advance!
Sorry for my bad english, I come from Germany!
Hello Guys .... I need proffessional help PLEASE ... I'm a little bit noob in all these things !!
Here's all information I can say if there are more needed I can provide ...
My phone history.
Maybe it can be helpful !!
Am gonna begin to say that i bought a Used DHD and its previous owner had installed a custom ICS 4.0.4 BLACK OUT rom it was rooted and has 4EXT Recovery touch everything was gr8 but i had a problem in all applications that uses mic such as VIBER-SKYPE-KAKAO ... etc so i thought it must be a problem with the rom or something so why not changing it ...
I Downloaded Several Custom Roms such as ...
codefireX_ace-SR2-V4.2.1
FullySamsung-ACE-1.0.1_V4.1.1
Jelly Time_R30_V4.1.2
JellyMIUI_2.12.28_v5
PACman-v19.1-Ace-V4.1.2
Here is what i did
1)Went to recovery mode(4EXT Recovery touch)
2)Choose Wipe Data/Factory Reset
here my phone just restarted and had a factory reset to the Black Out
... i thought there is another way to wipe out the rom so i entered the recovery again
and choose
A) Format system
B) then Format Data
C) then format boot ... and i think i've done something like hell
D) then Factory reset .. after restarting my phone keep going automaticlly into recovery mode
I though its all ok till now so I flashed the first codefireX_ace-SR2-V4.2.1 rom and it was successfully installed .... restarted my phone and it stuck on black screen (Dead) i waited for it about 30 min but its no use.
so i though maybe the rom has corrupted while download but I tried the same operation on all these roms and it still the same problem(Black Screen).
I read about the AAHK Operation and I followed the instructions as it is listed but still not working maybe I'm doing it wrong I dont know really Cuz im new to it.
I downloaded and tried to restore the Official rom using RUU
RUU_Ace_HTC_ARA_1.83.415.4_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF_release_168914_signed

it continue and finishes installing but it give me some error number after few steps
I checked the phone drivers it's all checked correctly(I can't guarantee it).
HTC Sync cant see the device at all.

Thanks for the reply sir
Our friend glevitan helped me yesterday and he managed to make the phone back to life again ... Big thanks to him
I asked him to help me in the AAHK operation ... he did the gold card thing and we were downloading official RUU that matches the phone CID when we got disconnected .. and the one that we choose didnt flash right.
soo can u help me in finding the right RUU to match my phone CID which is HTC_621. ?
CID is used for SIM Lock I believe (correct me in I'm wrong Glevitan), so it won't matter about the CID, mainly just the area. The latest WWE RUU will help ya =}
