This is an hboot flashable version of the Desire-Z ROM built for the G2. If you're rooted and know what you're doing with hboot, read on. To install, rename the download to PC10IMG.zip and place it at the root of your sdcard, then reboot into hboot. It'll flash ONLY SYSTEM and BOOT. I'll post more details shortly but everything I am testing works. Sorry for the crappy picture, I am frantically typing to make things happen.
http://twitgoo.com/1qjp6v
Quick overview (this is way below my normal release quality but I've not had much time and am rushing a bit):
Pre-rooted with Superuser from ChainsDD.
Busybox installed in /system/xbin.
Removed apps to allow the ROM to fit on the G2:
AdobeReader.apk
amazonmp3.apk
FlashLitePlugin.apk
FlashLitePlugin.odex
install_flash_player.apk
Maps.apk
Quickoffice.apk
SoundHound_Freemium_2.1.2b.apk
Stock.apk
Stock.odex
teeter.apk
teeter.odex
YouTube.apk
Most of these apps can be installed from the Market. Everything else is completely stock as it exists on the Desire-Z.
THIS IS NOT MEANT FOR JOE AVERAGE USER. PLEASE USE WITH CAUTION, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE. IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH HBOOT FLASHING THEN STEER CLEAR UNTIL WE HAVE A FUNCTIONAL RECOVERY.
LINKS PULLED AS THIS ROM IS NOW OBSOLETE. Visit the following thread instead:

Enjoy!
FIRST i hope.....
downloading and flashing now
Would i be able to root it after flashing it with the current g2 method ?
Bring virtuous to the g2 please
yay... this is all I wanted
also thank you!!!
Thanks for this i'm downloading now
Absolutely awesome. Thanks so much for this.
So if we're already rooted should we just install visionary to get root first then lock it in?
This is going to be fun...
nice job, but damn work. i just got home and was planning on doing this, so u beat me to it ...
did u modify system so it would fit on g2 partition?

That's exactly what I did. Uploading another version now which has less removed and is pre-rooted.
rmk....Ive been following what youve been saying about the rom on irc since sense 2.0 on my g2 is all i wanted.
could you possibly post a "change log" which would just list things that youve removed from the rom that people might want to know (search app, etc).
Also, is the rom working as fast as the g2 worked or is it like when we first put sense on the g1?
Third to last question, in case something goes wrong with installation or if I want to go back to the vanilla, is there a rom I can flash to go back to vanilla or am I stuck with desire z rom until someone makes one? Also do we have to clear data/cache like we normally do before flashing another rom or what?
second to last question, by installing in hboot, you mean rebooting into hboot then going into recovery to install or what do you mean?
Last question, are the keys mapped correctly or are they desire keys?
Please answer these questions, I want to make sure I know what I am getting into before I plunge. Thanks for all the work!!
P.S - sorry for all the questions.

sweet. another quick question, i see were only flashing system and boot. did u do a factory reset before flashing so it wont boot loop. if not wouldnt it be like going from aosp to sense without wiping?

I dont like senes but like learning. I thought the z and vision had the same chip? So shoukdnt it had fit in the nand? Also eont the pc10img flash a lock down hboot? Or you swapped it out and having s-off means it doesnt look for a sign?

Yeah of course, it's completely different software. Rule of thumb= similar software(plain froyo->plain froyo), no wipe; different software(sense -> stock, stock -> 2.3, etc), wipe

no, installing though hboot..... we still don't have a custom recovery, put the rom on your sdcard and it should detect it

Very cool, glad to see somebody putting a better firmware on the G2. Hope to see rooted version soon.
Also my overclock carry over if I install this firmware?
And a complete noob question probably, sorry. Will all my apps carry over?
I'm on it right now and it's pretty awesome!
Does wifi calling work?

the g2 overclock will be lost when flashing the z boot img. however if u know how to compile from source here is a oc and voltage changed boot that will work on sense

That's what I suggested. You also suggested the added step of unrooting and rooting again though I think that's completely unnecessary and would be a huge PITB just to get the calendar back. There's no need to throw unrooting into the mix. He should just flash the (rooted) stock ROM.

Actually he didn't mention if he flashed a custom recovery or not so he might have to run RUU if he can't flash the stock ROM. I didn't think about that.

You can't just install calendar.apk because its a system app.
You would have to push it to /system/app then run fix permissions.
Flashing the stock ROM through recovery would be easiest.

Assuming it's a sense rom, I would just download any sense rom, then push it via adb to the /system/app folder, chmod 0744 {filename.ext}. Done.
If it's AOSP, then same instructions, but grab an AOSP rom.
I would just reflash the rom you flashed originally. Wipe Dalvik/Cache and you should be good to go.

Ok, it's been a while since I rooted, but, when I did you had some form of a development rom and had to flash a different one right away. There were several "stock roms" to choose from.
It may be different now, so maybe I'm wrong. If so, get over it.
OP you have tons of options to correct your situation.. the thread police can surely help you out.

I need help! Can someone of you who have Costum ROM, send me a "wifi" folder from the software that he has?
I'm not sure what you mean by "WiFi Folder". But you can try re-flashing your radio. You will need Clockworkmod Recovery 2 to flash it.
Here's mine in CM7 (if you need one for a Sense based ROM, I can't really help you there)
I found it in /system/etc

I love my new Nexus but that horrible navigation bar kept bugging me. I don't hate the bar but the size was just aweful. Since this is my first Android device, I wanted to keep it stock. I did try a couple of ROMs but went back to stock. I kept trying to figure out how to reduce the size of the navigation bar. I tried a couple of programs. They were buggy. So, finally, shinta86 pointed me to http://chromloop.com/2013/07/how-to...on-bar-in-cyanogenmodcm10-1-on-nexus-4-guide/ that had instructions on how to decompile, change, and recompile framework-res.apk file. I gave it a go and bam, my navigation bar is smaller now. I chose to go with 24dpi. In case you would like it, I have included a link to framework-res.apk.zip file. Your device has to be rooted. You will have to replace framework-res.apk file in /system/framework with the one that you download from my link.
As with other things posted on this forum, please proceed with warning. I am not responsible for any damages to your device.

32 DPI for minimus ROM
Hey thanks a lot for this. although I couldn't use the file you posted, ROM not stock, the tutorial was surely very helpful!
So everyone, if you are using Minimus ROM, use this framework to get 32 DPI navbar.

Drive has made this file stupid, just download it and rename to framework-res.apk and push to relevant path

I have the same problem, i tried pushing the files using one of the Toolkits and 2 file exploring apps, and couldn't get it to work.
In fact, i got a bootloop when i tried to push the file with the file explorers. I already checked the SuperSu status, made sure the file has the same permisions the original apk has, but nothing works.
I am using a stock deodexed JSS15Q rom. If you are not too busy, could you show us how to do it? Thanks.

The file I posted is for odexed ROM. I will try and post some instructions soon.
Using Root Explorer go to your edited framework-res.apk on your SD long press it and select copy then navigate back to system/framework and "paste" your edited framework-res. It will ask you if you would like to "overwrite" the current framework-res, select yes. After that flo will reboot.
If you don't have Root Explorer, it is a must for Root Users and you can find it in the Play Store.
Also, remember to backup your original framework-res.apk.
Or... Go LMT, which solves the whole problem and screen space!

My Bonestock ROM has it as well..
If you don't want to run a custom ROM, I could try and make you a .zip to get it working on your current set-up.
