[Q] Is it possible to Enable 850 & 1900 UTMS Freq on I8150? - Samsung Galaxy W I8150
Hi everyone!
does anyone know if it is possible to enable 850 & 1900 Frequency bands on the I8150? if yes, please, please, some leads for the procedure (Root, or Custom ROM or whatever it makes it work!) i´m not an expert unfortunately.
Just bought an I8150 in Malasya 900/2100 Band which does not work in my country 850/1900 (my fault, didn´t check) so i´m at present using my I8150 as an expensive 2G with a fancy Calendar!.
Thanks lot for any help!!
Hi
First, this is possible, using Samsung Service Mode.......
easiest way to do it is with this App:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nfye.insanity.toolbox&hl=en
It has option to enable bands in Secret Codes:
Band Selection.....
Also, read here, but for i9000, so careful:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...rk-frequency-your-samsung-i9000-galaxy-s.html
Hi,
If you don't want to install nitrality (because it needs a rooted phone), you can always dial the band selection service mode directly: *#2263#
For some reason, nitrality does not work on the phone.
The band selection I´ve already tried but no asteriscks appear, selected the options anyway, but nothing happens (even after rebooting).
Thanks anyway, if you have any other comments let me know, you never know..
Hold on there!
this may sound extreeemely roocky (which in fact is) but,
do i need to have the phone rooted so when i dial the band selection in service mode the changes take effect?????!!!
Also, now i know why Nitrality didn´t work.
So i guess i´m gonna root the phone, if you have any link to recomendable instructions let me know, otherwise i´ll look over the net.
Thanks, hope this is the clue to the whole thing
Hi all,
my questions are similar to the ones joan10 asked and thus I'll simply add them to this thread.
(1) joan10: I'm very interested in your progress. Could you please post whether you got the 850MHZ band working or not? Thanks in advance!
(2) Does Samsung ship different versions of the i8150? I'm asking since the Samsung Hongkong website explicitely states that the i8150 is a UMTS (3G) quadband device. However most resellers (and actually most websites like gsmchoice.com) here in Europe sell the phone as a dualband UMTS device.
(3) If there are different versions: How do I find out in advance if the phone I'm buying is a Quadband UMTS device? I guess that the usual sales assistants in electronic stores cannot tell me. I intend to buy the phone in Europe.
(4) Given the posts in this forum, I guess that I will have to enable all bands manually using the so called "service mode". Is there any reason why Samsung does not ship the phones with that configuration even though it is a quadband device? Are there any disadvantages if all bands are enabled?
(5) Will I have to root the device in order to enable all bands? If so, will that affect the warranty?
Thank you *very* much in advance!
Hi,
I can tell you about the experience I've had with the SGW (i8150) and 850MHz UMTS. I bought the phone from UK to try it in my country which uses GSM-1800, UMTS-850. As of today I have not been able to connect to the mobile network, even after rooting and trying different ROMs from Europe and Asia.
I also tried to selecting the 850 band from service mode, but like you mentioned, the asterisk does not show up at 850.
My phone company regularly publishes a list of the phone models that are compatible with its network, and to my surprise the SGW is listed there but with the model i8150B, firmware versions: I8150BVJKJ5 and I8150BVJKH1.
From what I have read in this forum, I suspect the i8150B is a model first launched for the Brazilian market which uses UMTS850 and UMTS2100. So i8150B probably has a different antenna design.
I've been thinking of getting a hold of an i8150B ROM and flashing it to see what happens, or perhaps I'll just give up and try to sell it.
If you do try it, plz update here with the resaults... Hope it will work!

Hi freditoc....
I have the opinion that you will need a suitable, for your region, Phone i.e. Modem/Radio FW to take advantage of the Bands in your area.....
I think the phone has the radio HW OK.....but needs the proper Regional FW.
Perhaps there is a way with ODIN to flash sepetately regional Phone FW?? and keep other upgrades.....
I don't think Euro or Asian Phone FW is appropriate in America.....South/Central???
So maybe more research for ppl who bought Euro or Asia phone, but want to use in Brazil or Costa Rica, etc.
Makes sense....No or Yes??
I think this is mentioned in the I9000 thread I referred to earlier..

I have a SGH-T679 (EXHIBIT II), that I use in Europe and My local providers use 900/2100 MHz for UMTS (3G).
I can connect to any GSM network (900/1800MHz), but no 3G service because 850/1900MHz US radio.
There is no way to put the * to 900/2100MHz in the service menu only 850/1900MHz.
I think that the baseband sw is diferent and it might work for SGW and that of the SGW for the Exhibit II.
Here is the backup of My radio.bin http://www.mediafire.com/?vtbrp8ecwyxtfdx . Baseband T678UVKJ1.
Please upload some European i8150 basebands.
You can use adb and following commands
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/sdcard/modem.bin bs=4096
exit
exit

Hi all,
I'm really interested in the outcome of that discussion. However I'd have some additional questions:
(1) Wouldn't it be possible to simply read out hardware information from your devices? So that you see which UMTS module is built into your device and find out if it's quadband-capable?
(2) Can you tell me what the file 'modem.bin' acutally does? Why doesn't Samsung deliver the devices with only two bands activated?
Thanks in advance!
Sorry, there is a mistake in my last question. I wanted to ask "Why does Samsung deliver the devices with only two bands activated?"
Additionally, I want to refer to the Hong Kong website from Samsung (..samsung.com/hk_en/support/model/GT-I8150FKATGY-techspecs), which states that the phone is a quadband UMTS device. Maybe you can get the appropriate firmware from Samsung Hong Kong.
Please let me know about any progress. Thanks in advance!
Cheers!

Thank you for the file.
I have been busy lately, and I had no time to check in.
I compared the files with a hex editor, and unfortunately there are big differences...
I am afraid to softbrick my phone, so I will research on it a little further.
I tried the methods described at
http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...rk-frequency-your-samsung-i9000-galaxy-s.html
In the service menu
* # * # 1 9 7 3 2 8 6 4 0 # * # *
If you select:
[1] Debug Screen
+
[8] Phone Control
+
[7] Network Control
+
[2] Band Selection
Unfortunately the SGH-T679 does not have combi-band options.
Key in [4] (tap [menu], than Key in), displays a hidden menu:
"[1] GSM 850
[2] GSM 900
[3] GSM 1800
[4] GSM 1900
[5] WCDMA 850
[6] WCDMA 900
[7] WCDMA 1800
[8] WCDMA 1900
[9] WCDMA 2100
If you want to add other bands
choose band that youa want again"
However it doesn't change anything regardless what you choose next.
You can also enter
*#*#info#*#* (*#*#4636#*#*)
and you tap [Phone info],
then you can "Set preferred network type:"
choices are:
WCDMA preferred
GSM only
WCDMA only
GSM auto (PRL)
CDMA auto (PRL)
CDMA only
EvDo only
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) - default by My phone
Unknown
I tried a few options but no help.
There is also a [menu] key [Select radio band], where choices are:
Automatic
EURO Band
USA Band
JAPAN Band
AUS Band
AUS2 Band
Here it accept any selected band, but i can get no signal in either 900 or 2100MHz.
USE THIS INFORMATION AT YOUR OWN RISK, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DEVICE.
Its been a while since there was no activity here...
After countless reflash and handful of softbricks, My latest findings are:
- the baseband of the SGW does not work with Exhibit II rom - http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/688/sc20120219093621.png/
- you can crossflash the Exhibit II with SGW rom - http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/821/sc20120219100916.png/
Issues are:
- swapped keys,
- no camera,
- can't enter into service mode and
- no 900/2100MHz 3G !!!
Basically everything else works.
And NO, there is NO overclock, the phone runs on stock 1024Mhz.
i8150 with 850?
Have you got your i8150 working in 850? Do you have the baseband file?
Thanks in advance,
Hernan

The band selection menu can be accessed by dialling *#2263#.
I tried Menu key -> Key Input -> 4
The list of 9 bands came up, but nothing happens after selecting any one of them.
Strangely, if I select [2] WCDMA Band Preference -> [6] WCDMA ALL (that means it's on WCDMA only and it receive signal of all bands), the 850MHz-only network in Australia (Telstra NextG) came up in manual network search under Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks -> Network operators.
If I select [2] WCDMA 2100, Telstra doesn't come up because it uses 850MHz.
I'm on Vodafone Australia which uses 850MHz and 2100MHz in metropolitan areas and 900MHz in rural areas.

One more bit of information that might help you fix this.
In Service Mode -> MAIN MENU -> [3] UMTS RF NV -> [1] RF NV READ and [2] RF NV WRITE,
There are 4 bands,
[1] WCDMA 2100
[2] WCDMA 1900
[3] WCDMA 900
[4] WCDMA 850
That means the phone is coded to get reception from these 4 bands.
But when I tried to get in [2] RF NV WRITE -> [4] WCDMA 850, the process com.android.phone crashed. Is that a corrupted program file? Is this the cause of the problem?
Under [1] RF NV READ, information for all 4 bands can be accessed.
Hello. I would like to get a Galaxy W too, but I have the same problem as you: In my country 3G uses the 850 frequency!
Please let me know of your progress. Some Android devices come with a baseband changer (cyanogenmod 7.2 on Motorola Defy), but maybe it's because the phone does support both frequencies?
Thanks.

Some Brazilian guys on this thread have the GT-I8150B, which seems to work with the 850 band.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466740
Here you can download 2.3.6 brazilian firmware for that model and extract the radio file to try on the GT-I8150 if you're brave.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
If someone tries, let us know how it went!
My Galaxy W was sourced from Hong Kong and it was marketed as a quad-band (850/900/1900/2100) 3G device by both Samsung Hong Kong and the only 850MHz 3G carrier in Hong Kong, SmarTone. (Note that my phone is not network-locked.)
I notice that the CH configurations for WCDMA 850 are missing from service menu.
Under Service Mode (by whatever means you get in) -> MAIN MENU -> [6] COMMON -> [5] WCDMA SET CHANNEL:
Current CH: 0
Set Downlink CH, Input?
0: Reset
Set CH Range :10562-10842
Set CH Range :9662-9938
Set CH Range :2937-3088
10562-10842 are 2100MHz DL channels
9662-9938 are 1900MHz DL channels
2937-3088 are 900MHz DL channels
4357 – 4458 (850MHz DL channels) are missing
As DL channels of 850MHz are missing from this menu, my phone couldn't have possibly registered to any 850MHz network.
Is there any way to add them to the phone? Samsung is supposed to have done that, but they left it out.
Firmware version: I8150ZSLM4
According some other websites, the version number can be explained as:
I8150: model, ZS: China, Hong Kong, L: 2012, M: (Unknown month) 4: Version
Did anyone ever figure out if this is possible? I don't understand why the specs for this phone show 850 as a usable band if it's impossible to use.

Is it really possible to make a Diamond quad-band?
Dear colleagues, I have bought a Diamond in France 1 week ago and tryed to flash its ROM to a quad-band one. My device is hardSPL with diamond-hspl-1.24 and flashed the ROM 1.93.831.1 WWE. Follow the device information: ROM version: 1.93.831.1 WWE ROM date: 07/18/08 Radio Version: 1.00.25.05 Protocol version: 52.29.25.12H But is still appears at phone settings section to select GSM/UMTS band only: UMTS (900+2100) + GSM (900+1800) What could possibly be wrong? Thanks.
Your radio is a quad-band radio, so you have quad-band now, if it does not show up it maybe because of the ROM that you are using, but if you were to go to a place that uses the 850 band it will pick it up, even if its not shown there, as long as you leave it on auto.
Thanks, but are you sure? Just to confirm. I am not doubting on you. Which English ROM may I use to show up the settings GSM (850+1900). Thanks again.
I forgot to say that when I try to make a videocall a message shows up saying that the 3G network is not available. And I am on an area with 850 MHz (State of Minas Gerais, Brazil; operator TIM).

Ok, your phone have quad band on the GSM network, so you'll be able to use the EDGE, and GPRS data and phone service, while the 3G band on your diamond is Euro spec, so it won't pick up the 850Mhz/1900Mhz band (instead it'll pick up 900/2100mhz band).

Sorry ... but I think you are wrong saying that it is any hardware issue or that it won't work. Please see existing threads in Raphael section, it has already been discussed. As for Diamond !! we are 100% sure that the hardware is fine for all bands (3g and gsm) except WCDMA 800, as the calib data does exist and the hardware itself is capable. All Diamond I have seen so far have an rtr6285 and also the newer radio firmware support all bands except WCDMA 800. If using newer radio doesn't work (quadband enabled), so it is a ROM/SPL issue as it seems or your device needs updated nvitems. As for Raphael, it is the same, except that this one might have an hardware issue (antenna). We (me, cmonex and olipro) are working on this issue already. Once we get the diag port running on EU Diamonds, we are sure we can enable it for all bands (except 800 WCDMA). Cya, Viper BJK

Once we get the diag port running on EU Diamonds, we are sure we can enable it for all bands (except 800 WCDMA). Cya, Viper BJK Click to expand... Click to collapse WAAAAAA i can haz more g's?!?!?
chipset hardware change any update on enable all band?
Yes. It can't be enabled, it is a hardware issue. Problem is that for umts 850 there is no power amplifier built in. Cya, Viper BJK
[Q] Change 3G band to European GSM 900/1800
A family member gifted me a Galaxy S4, however it is the SGH-M919. I currently live in Europe and 3G bands in my region are GSM 900/1800. At the moment I can't access 3G and any other type of data for that matter (LTE is not supported here). Is there a way to change T-mobile 950 and 1900 bands to my region ones? Thanks for taking your time to answer
Sadly not. Since the radio does not support those frequencies for hsdpa

Hello Flex, I have the same phone "Samsung S4 SGH-M919 - Tmobile" and I live in Hungary, it works fine with me all you have to do is just to switch form WCDMA/GSM to any other option "like GSM only" then back to WCDMA/GSM as a kind of refresh and the 3G will work fine after that, you can find this inside Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network mode, but unfortunately you have to do this every time you restart your device. There is also another alternative solution is to reset the Access point names to default, you can find this inside Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names. to be honest I don't know the reason of this error, but try what I described and tell me if it works with you. Good Luck
Well. I have the exact same phone and have tried several ROMs, either custom or stock and basebands also. Nothing seems to work. The very few users who reported it was working didn't provide much evidence of it. Even Wikipedia says no 3G 900MHz availability for this phone. A simple edit to NV 1877 values won't solve it. I've tried that too.
SGH-T999 Stuck on Edge only
Hello there hope all of you doing well i had Tmo SGH-T999 S3 which is unlocked but after unlocking its stuck on 2G Network i couldn't use 3g network i search on google and i found this code :*#197328640# but i don't know how to use it any way can you help me wish best times 4 you ^_^
Did you sim-unlock the phone using a code?
I'm also having this issue. I have TMO SGH-T999 S3 sim unlocked before via software (not unlocked via code) and always stays on E (2G). I am thinking that i got messed up after the unlock. My IMEI is still intact btw.
First thing is to double check that your IMEI exactly matches the one on the sticker under the battery. If it checks out, the next best step is to reflash your current or newer stock firmware. (This can be caused by mismatched firmware so by flashing it you will either fix the problem or eliminate it as the cause). You may also want to check your IMEI against the blacklists online. Especially if you bought it anywhere but a retail store.
Unlocking via code or secret menu should not affect radio bands available in the phone.
WCDMA Band preference I've checked the WCDMA (3G) band preference available in my T999 S3 and below are the only option available: The mode preference menu: *#2263# The information menu: *#197328640# WCDMA 850 WCDMA 900 WCDMA 1700 WCDMA 1900 WCDMA IMT2000 WCDMA ALL ... and found out my carrier band preference for 3G is 2100. Seems i'm out of luck for 3G data and since this T999 cannot support 4G LTE. I guess i'm stuck on E (2G) data unless i use WiFi. P.S - Is there a way to add a 1800 or 2100 band preference to WCDMA? :fingers-crossed:
Check the General section in AT&Ts forum. They had something like this if I remember right. They could enable use on a different band, but I don't think it would stick after a reboot. It's been a long time since I looked at it though, so they may have made some more progress on it.
Goodbye 2G (E) data connection I'm happy to report that my (WCDMA) data speeds is now functional on my SIM network carrier! :good: Loving the speed browsing at last . Although showing as 4G but i know my T999 is not capable of that and not very sure. Again, thanks DocHoliday777 (I don't know how to link your name) for giving me the idea about the Modem mod. I just followed the guide on the link below and used the NV Data backup from T999L file. So for any users of T999 you can try this mod but please do it at your own risk and don't forget to backup. I hope this T999L modem mod can be included on the newer root66 baseband/firmware so it can be permanent? Anyway, just follow the guide on the link below and hit thanks! http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344627 P.S - To access the modem setting on my SGH-T999 I've used the code *#0808#. And my final WCDMA setting i chose WCDMA ALL. Goodluck!
SM-T807P with not support to WCDMA
I have a SPRINT SM-T807P pre-owned tablet working 100% OK. The device IMEI is clean and I'm outside the US. I could find the 2G/3G/4G technology and bands supported prior to buy the device through eBay. Then, running stock ROM MM 6.0.1 updated > root > unlock and debranding to clean SPRINT apps and restrictions with others carriers SIMs. I have 3 SIMs from my 3 local carriers and I know I can't use LTE since the carriers LTE bands are not compatible with the device (Band 2 and Band 4 required by the carriers) www_gsmarena_com/samsung_galaxy_tab_s_10_5_lte-6235.php No problem with that, I can use 3G/2G mobile data for my internet surfing and email check tasks. My problem is that my device is not supporting WCDMA! When I'm in IOTHiddenMenu > ##DATA# Menu > HDR/1X Selection, I have only these options: 1) Hybrid 2) CDMA Only 3) EVDO Only 4) EHRDP 1x 5) Global 6) LTE + CDMA + EVDO 7) LTE only As you can see there is nothing related to WCDMA! Using "Global" is not the trick. In GCF SETTING when going to [2]UE Setting & Info [1]Setting [1]Protocol [2]NAS [1]Network Control [4]BAND SELECTION I can see "WCDMA Band Preference" > "WCDMA ALL" option but this setting is not saved. Only are saved the options related to LTE, CDMA or LTE+CDMA. Same behavior when going to RADIO SETTINGS > Set preferred network type. GSM/WCDMA options present but are not being saved nor accepted. I can save only options with LTE or CDMA (or both) involved. RTN RESET and NV REBUILD done without getting WCDMA enabled after the tasks. Now I'm in the way of discover why all the people with SPRINT SM-T807P can enjoy WCDMA services after unlocking the device and I can't do it as expected. I'm thinking that is a restriction on the stock ROM. I have a MSM8974 board with a Snapdragon 800 processor. Build ID MMB29M.T807PVPU1CPI1 Any help/advice to enable WCDMA on the device will be really appreciated.
Additionally, when I'm in RADIO SETTINGS for some reason I can't select some options. With a (*) mark are my "selectable" options. The other ones can't be assigned... WCDMA preferred GSM only WCDMA only GSM auto (PRL) (*) CDMA auto (PRL) (*) CDMA only EvDo only (*) GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) (*) LTE/CDMA auto (PRL) (*) LTE/GSM auto (PRL) (*) LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) (*) LET only (*) Unknown All the "selectable" options were tested (selected and restart) with no success...
Maybe I need to enable LTE/HSDPA/GSM required bands through CDMA Tools or it seems to be a bad idea?
Adding additional LTE Bands was not possible with CDMA tools. The new selection is not being saved. I'm in the way of flashing the stock SM-T807T (T-Mobile) on my SM-T807P (Sprint) to check the behaviors. Any advice will be really appreciated...
I could see at the Qualcomm website that the Snapdragon 800 processor supports WCDMA and full LTE bands frecuencies: Supported Cellular Technologies LTE FDD LTE TDD LTE Broadcast WCDMA (DC-HSDPA, DC-HSUPA) TD-SCDMA CDMA 1x EV-DO GSM/EDGE https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/800 I'm in the way (too) of searching for the correct MODEM flash file to get LTE, WCDA and GM/EDGE fully unlocked and working...
It was not possible to flash SM-T807T (T-Mobile) stock ROM from SAMMobile on SM-T807P (Sprint) There is a Odin error. I will try by editing NV to get the bands working...
Well, after working with CDMA Tools, NV Manager and editing the build.prop file, now I can see my required LTE, WCDMA and GSM additional bands! No more "Searching network connection" on the top left corner. But the signal icon on the top right corner is always empty (no signal at all). I have checked, deleted and reconfigured the APN, with no success. And still I can't set "GSM auto (PRL)" on the Service Mode as "Preferred Network Type" so I believe I'm missing something else. I'm really exhausted, I need help to be able to get my Samsung Galaxy Tab S working OK on my local GSM networks. I will open a new thread offering to pay/donate for the service to have my device working on GSM ...
Samsung s20 enable UMTS 4 question
hi all, Have a question about unlocking the umts band 4(aws 1700) for a s20 sm-g9810 HK version. Hope someone can help me to sort it out. Following the guides in this forum, I enabled the band using QPST and QXDM to write NV 1877. The white was successful, and the Samsung Band Selection app shows wcdma IV 1700(it wasn't there before modifying NV). However, when I select the band or change network mode to 2G/3G, I can't make any call with Freedom Mobile, which is using UMTS 4 for voice. Does anyone know if the hardware supports this band? Thanks!
