Having an issue getting my security settings to function properly. If I set a security option then choose automatically screen lock and set my time to lock 30 mins after screen goes to sleep, the phone still locks the moment it sleeps requiring me to use my PIN every time its turned off. In lieu of the 30 min. waiting period I would prefer. I'm running Codenamedroid ROM on the Gnex.

Locking 30 mins after screen goes to sleep means that if the screen turns off itself (timed-out) it will not security locked until 30 mins later. If you lock the phone yourself by press the power button it will security lock at once.

Yea, I figured that out afterwards. That's not the way the Thunderbolt worked. Thanks for the reply though.

Is there a way to change the lock button on the right to more of a soft lock.
every time i hit it, i have to enter my pin in again. so it would be nice if the button acted more like the screen timeout.
Any ideas?
You could turn off your lock password?
I can't. The phone has to be connected to our exchange server, which requires a pin at the minimum.
I don't know if you have owned a blackberry, but if you press the lock button it doesn't require your pin to be entered until a set amount of time, but still sleeps the display and doesn't allow input.
There is an app on the market that may do what your looking for - "Password Delay Full". There is also a free version but I don't know what the differences are, I figure it's better to get the paid one to support the devs!
There is a built in lock delay right?

Yes, once your lock is set up go to Settings>Location and Security>Timeout

Yes, with this option you can set delay upto 30 min. for the screen to lock out after it has been turned off.

That doesn't work. It says "Lock screen 'X' minute/s after screen automatically turns off."
That means if you leave your phone there with the screen on, it will lock X minutes after the screen turns off by itself. If you press the lock button, only way to unlock is with passcode. My Sensation didn't do this, hopefully there's an easy option on this phone.

Right, I have the same problem and am looking for a solution. HTC Sense has this working properly, but on Samsung the power key does the full screen off + lock rather than just screen off and let the lock delay lock it.
Very annoying. I'm guessing that a Samsung TW update or a new ROM could fix it.
I'm curious if others are seeing this behavior as well. My company requires pin activation as part of it's security policy with a maximum timeout of 15 minutes. So if I'm using my phone and it puts itself to sleep after my define sleep timeout as long as I use it again within 15 minutes I don't have to re-enter the password. However, if I use the power button to put it to sleep it immediately invokes the password requirement, even if it is within the 15 minute window.
Is this new with ICS or a bug? It never worked that way with my old Nexus One. It didn't matter if it went to sleep automatically or if I put it to sleep with the power button, as long as it was within the 15 minutes I didn't have to re-enter my password. I'm curious if others are seeing this behavior as well.
This is a base security feature of Exchange
When screen goes off, the phone immediately locks up. This is so that if your phone was going to be taken from you, you can hit the power button and lock it up.
The timeout on the other hand is an additional security feature.
I understand that it is a feature, but why the different behavior for when the screen times out and when I put it to sleep by hitting the power button. On all other phones I've used and previous versions of android the behavior is the same whether the phone sleeps on it's own or if I put it to sleep using the power button.
guys
when i press the right side button to turn off the screen, it also locks it forcing me to key in the PIN even if i need to use the phone after a minute
Any app to help with that? Basically turn off the screen but don't lock the phone?
Thanks
Turn off security in settings, either slide or off is what your looking for

It depends on exactly what you are looking for but you can change the amount of time the screen has to be off before requiring a pin. I believe if you go into security settings you can put the screen off time at 30 min before requiring a pin or any other security for that matter.

If I'm not mistaken, that only affects the time out sleep state. If you manually press the side button to turn the screen off it locks immediately. It'd be nice for this not to happen.
I use widgetsoid. It allows you to toggle the lock screen on and off as you need it.

If you look you have the option 'Power button instantly locks' as well as a sleep lock timeout setting.

True, so I believe if the op didn't want his phone to lock instantly he would have to remove the checkmark on "Power button instantly locks" and then increase the sleep timeout for the pin lock.
I don't have 'Power Button Instantly Locks' ??
Anyone experiencing this? I had the setting to be 30 minutes of idle would lock the phone (using the pattern lock).
After 4.1 my phone now locks whenever I use the power button with the same 30 minute idle setting. It's really annoying and defeats the purpose of having a timer lock the phone. The only option would be to let the phone screen timer idle out every time.
Not sure why this would change or if my phone is bugged.
There's a setting (in Security if memory serves) to lock the phone instantly if the power button is used. Did that get set during the update, perhaps?

that options doesn't seem to have its own setting any more. It is however built into the lock screen timer - the top option is to have it lock at idle out or power button. From there it goes down in increments like 1m, 2m, 5m, 20m, 30m.
I have it set to 30minutes and also checked the security options - there isn't a separate option to lock with power button that I can find anymore.
I have a Note 8 Global Version with MIUI 11. If my phone is locked and screen is off and I press the lock button or even scan my finger, it is taking approximately 4 to 5 seconds for the screen to be lit. A few information if it helps:
1. Let's say in lock screen the screen is supposed to be lit for 5 seconds. I press the lock button. Wait 3 seconds. Then the screen light turns on. But just after 2 seconds the screen turns off. It means the processor does read the button press immediately but somehow fails to turn the screen on immediately.
2. After the MIUI 11 update I was tinkering with the new options. And I found one old option actually - double tab lock button to start camera. I turned that on and checked how that works. That was the first time I noticed the delay of 3/4 seconds. So I thought it was related and disabled it. But still the issue persists.
Never happened to me. How much free RAM do you usually have free? Looks like the device is running slow in elaborating processes.
Do you notice other lags while normally using your phone during the day?
