Hi, I need a way to share internet via a physical cable from my PC to my Android phone (Xperia Play).
The reason for this, is that I'm attempting to download several gameloft games. They keep failing, with the message and error occurred. This is also happening with Crash Bandicoot.
To rule out the wifi as the problem, I need to be able to share internet from my PC to my mobile phone for the purpose of these downloads. The APK files install without any problem but the gameloft forums are filled with the bones of those users who can't download this extra data.

Found several references to this question but all outdated or not relevant to the Gnex... is there a way to restrict a search to a specific forum ie the Gnex forum?
I just discovered that my disconnected Droid X can still access the net and the Play store, etc. I want to use my Gnex phone to do that too; but worry that it won't know I'm on WiFi and chew up data, and get git with a big, unexpected, bill for excess data use.
Is there an app or a Widget that will turn off, or disable, Data use when there is an active WiFi connection? So that I don't have to remember to do it when I get home or leave home?
I wonder about public WiFi connections; I wonder if automating the process would be a good idea after all; unless there were a way to choose the WiFi connection to access.
ps It looks like I may have found the answer in "Data On-Off" :victory:

Great you found the "answer", reported this to moderation team for closing.
Why would you even bother to bump/report it 72 hours later? The thread was fine where it was.
good day.

Because it had no replies; Because OP did not edit the title thread to include the [SOLVED] tag; Because the OP should have done it himself (reporting the thread for closing); Because it was 72h old, and not 3 months; I reported it to prevent the thread from being necrobumped, on a matter as trivial as this. If it's a 3rd party app OP was looking for, then this might even be more appropriate on Android General, since he "didn't want to remember" himself to shut data connection off, and there isn't a sw or a hw issue so..
Now, if my report didn't get this thread closed, this post (or the following) will.

hi all,
i have searched the topic i question, but can't find any satisfying answer. to anticipate situation if we lost our android phone, i.e SGN 2, what would you do to make the phone plainly useless for whoever find it ? i am comparing to iphone in this case (the other smart phone i ever own, sorry..). if i find your iphone, and you put simple 4 digit password, it would be very hard for me to bypass to get into the phone's system & data or to restore it. unless i would try 4^10 = 1,048,576 combination trial. no way i would go to the apple store to ask for help . on android, if it's rooted, i can go to recovery and restore to factory condition and i have a fresh device.
let's put aside the IMEI blocking feature imposed by carrier, as it's only effective for a specific region/country/carrier.
any feedback will be appreciated. thank you !
I use this.

Id recommend a program called androidlost. Much more functionality. I can snap pictures of a perpetrator using my phone, secretly record audio of them without their knowledge, enable gps ( even if they turned it off ) and track on a map, and is persistant even if they pop out the sim card and put in another. It notifies you of the new phone number too.
I use the gps all the time on my wifes phone (she gets lost easy ). Other features include remote file downloads, remote wipes, changing or setting a password on the phone, push the last 25 sms sent and received to your computer. Its an awesome program.
Even if they have factory reset your phone immediately and still had your sim inserted, you can push it remotely, and enable the software. Wicked awesome. Ive messaged the developer with a few ideas to make it system persistant..... hopefully he implements them as even a factory data reset would not remove the app

apologize mod. thank you for the action.
thanks for the replies guys. we hope future android OS will feature complete lock down from unauthorized user. from description, those kind of 3rd party apps will stop working if a perpetrator installs customROM although big chance legit owner can take action to protect their data.
You can also put in a pin, password, or even face recognition for the lock screen. That's the first line of defense, but on top of that, there are plenty of apps that can remote wipe, locate lost phones, take a picture after someone tries to open it and fails, etc. Cerberus & Lookout are really good. With Lookout, T-mobile customers have a little bit extra features, like the ability to make your phone scream remotely. I've tried it and I have to say it's pretty loud!
pls help me
Turning off location won´t help in any way. First, some apps tend to override your settings and send the exact geolocation anyway. But even with successfully blocking the GPS from working, your phone, when simply turned on establishes automatically contact to any cell service within reach.
With several fixed positions of the cell broadcating points, the (approximate) position of your phone may be easily detected by simple signal triangulation. Its like in the spy movies. Any turned on phone may be detected...
how.
pls some screenshots

This is nothing to do with your device or rom, so n screens possible. For your device to be able to take or make calls, it must be connected to mobile network. This means your provider can tell the police which mobile cell you are logged in atm. To prevent this, only airplane mode will help.
airplane that's it
