After yesterday's disapointing release I finally bit the bullet and got a new 'phone from my network operator. I was offered a choice between the HTC sensation and the Samsung Galaxy II and I went for the latter mainly because I was not impressed with the HTC approach to the GB update. I will move to reading their section in xda.
To all those that have helped me either through lurking on their threads or by answering my questions I just wanted to say thank-you!
Enjoy your new phone! Although I didn't think Samsung are any better at updates lol

Laters!
if you want updates you need to go Nexus really.
Samsung are flavour of the month for the moment - but remember their FroYo release? It took about 3-4 months after HTC's release...
Failing that you just need to go AOSP with a custom rom - which you can do on almost any handset.
Perhaps you should address your goodbye to HTC directly
here you are
Flashlight
Have you heard of custom roms?

Good luck with your samsung things, grass isn't always greener and better in next door!
Well update to Gb which HTC released is in my opinion great cause they just do everything they were able to port GB to desire and than just released it for developers. For some time we will have great custom roms with official Gb, alreadywe have SuperNova by Droidzone.

I love my Desire
I love the my Desire, and pretty sure it is going to be the Android phone I would use for at least 1.5 years.
The main reason being there are so many Desire users, the ROMs just keep coming and getting better.
Like op i've moved from a desire to a sgs2 for many reasons, mainly my contract was up and I didn't like the lag on the sensation screen! But what gets me is how many people keep going on about custom roms for the desire. Of course there are loads the phone is old in tech year's, I'm sure the same will happen to the sgs2 in about 6 months, but to be honest I don't find much difference between the 2 apart from never having to think about how many applications I can have. Ie running out of memory! As they say you pay ya money and make ya choice.

I was thinking of selling my desire and buy a Sensation but when I read all those user comments about all the issues I changed my mind, sensation still have that nice look, but when we talk about software I cant say the same of what I hear, now I dont know what to do to keep desire and wait until they release some new phone wich will work normal, or give up of HTC and buy some other brand with android.

True, but Samsung didn't promise Desire users Gingerbread and a new version of Sense and failed to deliver.
I got the Desire based on this, and know I feel they flipped the finger, so I can't really blame OP for ditching HTC.
I'm surprised google didn't have a word with them since google set out a baseline for all phone manufacturers that each handset should get at least 18 month's of updates? Therefore google is saying the max size each version of android is gonna be and the processing power requirements! It's like the htc wildfire this will never see gingerbread as it has the same if not less memory and power than the desire! Yet its a newer phone than the desire! Or is it google just doesn't care? And is letting phone manufacturers get away with it?

Afaik Gingerbread was delivered 6 hours behind the schedule and Sense 2.1 was never mentioned by any credible source of information, but as it seems you collect your info from the same people who scream that release on their page is beta I kind of understand where you got that.

I love when people talk about companies "promising" something and then moan when it doesn't happen. Reminds me of the old days in the school playground...
From what I can see, HTC did thier best to deliver, but unfortunately the constraints of the device stopped them being able to do more. What do people expect them to do, come over and upgrade the memory in each phone?
Some people just want the moon on a stick.
Note to OP, it's 'so long' not 'good-bye'
Hi all.
Wondering if anyone is considering devving for CM on the HTC One X?
It looks as though the Asus Transformer Prime (Tegra 3) has nightlies http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=tf201&type=nightly
so there is some hope, in terms of CPU support.
I think HTC are a little less sluggish in releasing source too these days? Which bodes well.
Please use the poll to show support, would be interested to know how people feel about CM on the One X, personally I really hope it happens!
Well it looks as though people want a ROM, any devs care to volunteer?
I will be glad if that ROM will rise !
HOX without cm would be very disappointing....
Anyone have any news on the likelihood of a CM9 build for the HTC One X?
Think we just have to wait and see how popular the phone is first :-(
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
The phone will be popular, no question.
It's not a matter of if there is a CM9 build - just when.
M.
CM developers have one rule... one rule only... don't ask for ETA, you aren't asking that but they never seem to reply to us asking if a certain phone will be supported... Anyway seeing as the One X is a flagship device it will definitely be getting sometime... but for now i don't give a ****e about ROM's, i only care about the phone getting Revolutionary boot unlocker and root
I'd love CM on the phone. Came to it from an SGS II, and I really miss CM9.
I have test a long time CM7 on my SGS 2.
I was very surprise before that i don't know how look stock android.
CM is fast but have some problem with my carradio using my SGS 2 with USB.
Sense working good with it i hope a CM9 on Hox would not have the same problem.
Is anyone working on it?
Ive already started working on CM9 for the One S. However, HTC is slow with releasing the kernel source, making the job much much harder. If we are lucky, HTC will get around and help us out, if not, it might take a while before things are working.

Well, thank you very much. Now that I know I won't stuck with a stock rom, I might just take advantage of TMO's upgrade offer.
Again, we are dependant on the kernel source and even then the imageSense.chip drivers probably won't be released. There's some useful stuff on CodeAurora for it though so with time I'm sure we will figure it out

As long as WiFi, Pandora, and Firefox work, I'm good to go. I've probably taken about 40 pictures with my G2 that's two years old. I deal in data more than graphics. All I need are my tunes and slashdot fix ;-)
As soon as SWMBO signs off on the upgrade, I'll be ordering. I'll need to wait until after Mother's day, though. That's gonna take some cash

Why? We can flash both custom kernels and roms with s-on (as long as it's unlocked through htcdev, ofc), right? Then why would we need s-off? Sure, it would be really nice to have, but it's not needed to get CM on our device.
Correct me if Im wrong.

Considering HTC refuses to acknowledge things like the green tint issue that some users are experiencing when they updated to jellybean, ignore GPL by not releasing sources, releasing updates for their phones literally years too late (like the amaze receiving ICS like a year late) I think it's safe to assume that they'll either ignore the One X completely or release it a few years from now.
Either way, I'm pretty sure this is the last HTC phone I ever buy.
reliable only on XDA not on HTC
when we have great team of developers here on xda why we need official one???but in terms of releasing updates we all know HTC.....
Well, my questions wasn't about the official update, I asked if you guys think that the devs will be able to port it fully. Not just skins and tiny segments of Sense 5, I'm talking the full interface.

yeah im also looking forward to experience sense 5 on my one x. it is said that it is lighter than sense 4+.
i hope it comes real soon.
Since the HTC One has the exact same screen resolution and we have 3.1 kernel, i'm sure we should get full sense 5.
The only limitations are the HTC One's hardware specific features.

The HTC One doesn't have the same screen resolution... It has 1080p and we have 720p. It just has the same screen size (4.7 inch) which is practically irrelevant when porting.

hi folks,
the german tech site techstage.de was able to ask htc directly on the london release party.
they said that there will be definetly an update for the devices one x, one s and one x+.
they also mentioned that this update wont got all the features he htc one got, but i think this will be mainly the new htc-tv feature that allows u to use ur device as a remote (because we dont got an infrared sensor).
we'll see...

So guys finally its official:
HTC OneX and OneX + will not receive any further updates.
Its officially announced by HTC now.
"We can confirm that the HTC One X and One X+ will not receive further Android OS updates beyond Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed both devices to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences. -HTC"
Update: the only HTC One X variant that will be updated to Android 4.3 is the HTC EVO 4G LTE on Sprint.

But this just confirmed what I expected and so this will definitely be my last HTC device. Too bad I liked the build quality.

Well. Its a quad core it could not handle android 4.4. Wait cm is running great. Well they would need a big team to update to kk. Wait thomy updated to cm kk all by himself.
All these just proves that htc did not learn anything. thought they could be it you know the company that cares trying to give out the best for the lowest price and keep it updated as long as possible. Instead they are just like everybody else.
My dad bought a samsung tv today. It could not run the youtube app no matter what. I called samsung and they said it is not a problem from their side but from the developers of the app. Ok so f off and tnx for false advertisement (for 2 months). Then the wifi would not work. Called them again they said if it isnt 5m from the router (visual distance) it wont work. Which actually means hey you have a really crappy wifi chip so thats how we protect ourselves so we dont need to replace it.
Dont know where im going with it? I think that if we dont stand up to the industry and demand changes like i dont know a htc xda program for example or everyone slaps ceo of samsung for everytime youtube wont start, we are going to end up in a ditch from where we will not be able to come out. For christ sake i cant even connect a htc phone to a samsung tv anymore. And that should be normal???

Its a hard lesson learnt, only buy Qualcomm based chipset phones from now on. nVidia gives fancy names to their chipsets, however they are pathetic when it comes to supporting their chipset.
I think it has to do with HTC also.. Dont blame just nvidia. if HTC wanted they could have updated the phone as fas as i know. Thomy's ROM is working fine on hox and so does slimkat. Why don't HTC discuss it out with nvidia and both could have worked hard to give an update.
But see they both (HTC and nvidia) dont give support to old devices and try to work hard on throwing new devices every then and now. If they would have worked that hard (or even less than that) on giving support to hox, it might be a good decision..
Hox is a solid performing device which HTC d#tched early..

They sure as hell aren't getting that money from me.
I see a main cause that HTC decided to not update our phone anymore in the fact that 90% of the users of a phone are just the basic users, who just leave everything on their phone as it was delivered. Only thing I see my friends changing on their Android phones are the wallpaper and their app shortcuts. Some of them change their widgets, some don't. And out of my whole circle of friends I am the only one who knows what a custom ROM is and what the most up to date Android version is. So why should HTC Update our device any further if the only people really concerning about these updates are "those geeks over at xda developers". If things were the other way around and 90% of the HOX owners around the world would trample HTCs HQ for not updating our phone and would take the same step as me and were not going to buy any other HTC phone anymore they would sure as hell update it to KK.
But as people dont do so, why should they update it.
The thing is that old versions of Android also mean more security concerns and possible app compatability issues in the future. Things like this are a concern for the average user and not so much us who know how to tinker with custom roms.
And my friends who have Android phones and who I'd call average users complain about lack of upgrades just as much as me. They still want their phones to have the newest features, up to date looks and all that. HTC being so horrible with updates means that people recognize then as a company with lack of support. And people don't pay hundreds of dollars/euros for just more than one years worth of support.

It's not like that. You don't see Samsung or Motorola not updating their old devices just because 90% of the users don't complain.
Samsung is going to update S3 to kitkat. and motorola has already confirmed that old devices are receiving kitkat. those devices don't even have large user base like that of HOX.

Let's wait and see what happens to the One after its successor in announced.
I was wondering if ever there will be a time that the GS3 will have a HTC One rom? I figure since they ported over a Z1 earlier maybe they can port an HTC One.
I know what some of you might say " buy an HTC phone" I'm just curious I had an HTC Thunderbolt when it first came out and loved the UI but had issues of course with the phone. but now, with the new HTC One it'll be nice to play with it on the GS3
I doubt that Galaxy S3 does not support Sense UI Framework. You could try and see if the Launcher can be installed on S3. You'd have to get someone with HTC to grab the 2 APKs for you.

I've had this ROM on my phone for several months now; it has the sense launcher/icons so it will look/run like an HTC phone even though its not an actual HTC port. I know it's not exactly what you're looking for but oh well
