Hi
Does anyone know if it's possible to insert the ICS email.apk into a Gingerbread ROM like CM7.1?
My findings are that in ICS it's possible to native sync you emails and calendar from an Exchange server with you phone.
In Gingerbread this is only possible with external apps (Touchdown, Moxier, Enhance Email,...)
Would syncing work if you inserted the ICS apk into the GB ROM?
Thanks for you response.

Exchange sync
Not sure if i am missing something here but i have been syncing to exchange without issue since Eclair.
All you need to know are the server settings and away you go
Depends on the security settings of your exchange i believe.
Ah i remember, it has to do with certificates and stuff (security eej )
I guess this is not possible, because it's a system app.
Syncing with Exchange on Gingerbread, too. Stock mail app is working fine. But i'm not using CM7.1, maybe their mail app doesn't supprt exchange sync?!

So I like using the stock mail app but it seems that after a day it DELETES any email. Is there a easy way to fix this? Or do I need to switch to another mail app? If so could I please get a few suggestions? Also I'm currently not rooted.
Thanks

Pick # of days or # of emails.
I had an issue with the Mail app where it would constantly get stuck syncing my Exchange email, when nothing changed. It would kill the battery when it got stuck doing that. I would try killing the sync, and it would just start again and again... So I paid $3.99 for Enhanced EMail from the Market. Works great!
Sense Email for Exchange works perfectly
I have also purchased the Enhanced Email for my DINC, but the only time I have to use it is when I'm using a GB rom. It works pretty well, but there are no scrolling widgets available for it. The stock GB email client is missing the 'search' function (I'm not sure how the Google folks neglected this key piece of business-class functionality in the GingerBread Release).
When I am using a FROYO rom on the DINC (Sky Raider 4.0 is the very best in my opinion), the Sense Exchange Mail client should be rock solid and has one of the very best widgets available on the market. The problems you are experiencing might be the rom you are using, because it works flawlessly on the SkyRaider 4.0 Rom with Sense 2.0.
Does anyone know if the Gingerbread 2.3 stock mail app works with Hotmail EAS any better than 2.2
Also does anyone know if the Mail from 2.3 can be installed on stock HTC rom perhaps? If not I may have to install the 2.2 stock Mail app...
If so - does anyone know if the 2.3 stock mail can be extracted from Gingerbread as an apk?
I'm still using Improved Email to get hotmail EAS on my phone instead of the HTC Mail app - I was hoping that with the last couple of updates HTC sent out they may have fixed the HTC Mail / Hotmail EAS issues - but not yet...
No thoughts? I may just have to stick with Improved Email for now then
Do the Stock Mail app or Improved Mail support HTML rendering? I didn't think they did, which is a pity.
I've tried TouchDown and that works just fine, pity it's $20 though.
improved email doesnt - but I thought stock mail did? maybe not...
Bump on this question now we have custom GB roms kicking about, do they support exchange active sync and HTML emails?
Thanks.

I know honeycomb's stock email app works fine on Xoom
but I started using Enhanced Email https://market.android.com/details?id=com.qs.enhancedemail instead which works well
Guys, are your Exchange calendars displayed and synced OK in 4.0.3?
Coming from HTC forums where we are having issues with the latest 4.0.3 mail/calendar/provider APKs....seems Samsung devs are also hitting this...
Using the latest HTC's own ICS 4.0.3 email APK it works OK...but all "AOSP-ized" Sense-less ROMs that use AOSP 4.0.3 mail APK are having the issue. When creating an exchange email account, choose to sync also calendar...when opening calendar app (AOSP), there is no Exchange calendar to choose to display or sync.
thx in advance!

Mine works perfectly, running Exchange 2007 (on SBS 2008), and Gummy Nex GSM ROM.

hmm, thanks.
seems to be HTC base related then....
Various versions of gapps ( I presume that is also where you Google Apps come from on your rooted phone ) are having some problems with Calendar Sync, on Samsung devices aswell.
There are various workarounds, extracting the calendarapps (googlecalendar.apk? and calendarprovider.apk) from a different ICS 4.0 gapps package works.
Set right permissions and reboot (works for me on SGSI).
Or try flashing the gapps again or look for a fixer.
I've been on 2 ROMS since my purchase (AOKP/Rootzboat) and neither had issues with Exchange calendar syncs.
I've only had my Galaxy Nexus, replacing an Infuse, for a week now. the phone is rooted and has CWM recovery; otherwise is Verizon stock 4.03 (for now).
I can't get Exchange to sync to the calendar consistently. The gmail calendar works fine, but the exchange works for a day or so, then stops processing any changes (both ways). If I delete it and recreate the account, it works for a day or so, then same thing.
Any ideas? Specific gapps packages from other ICS builds to try?
Thanks.
Hi All,
I am using TouchDown currently and looking for an alternative app like Touchdown for my SGS2 T989. Any suggestions - I tried Moxier but didn't like it that much.
Problem with Stock One
- Puts a device level lock unlike Touchdown which puts app level lock
- Problems with Contacts Sync
Thanks a lot

I too use TouchDown and like you I especially like the "app level lock."
What don't you like about TouchDown? All my original wants have gone away after realizing the extensive number of settings that can be made.

I use the stock email app and remove the pin requirement. Works fine for me.

I use touchdown as well. I find it great. No complaints to be honest.

I dont hate anything about Touchdown - I have another corporate account which I would like to enable on my device - Touchdown won't give me unified mailbox for both of them and I have to physically switch profiles to download mails in other.
I tried Enhanced Mail to - but it doesnt give so many options as TD and plus it puts device level restrictions.

+1
I've tried 'em all and ultimately settled down w/EE. Great developer support as well.
As for syncing two accounts, it's my understanding that it's an Exchange limitation, and not a client's limitation. You can however (w/EE) have a unified inbox w/one exchange and various POP/IMAP accounts.
Replacement Email and Exhange -- working
This is working for me with Exchange Activesync and Hotmail. Be sure to clear the data on both Email and Exchange.

The version numbers are 4.1 on both. The stock ICS has Email 4.0 and Exchange 3.1
It's weird, but sometimes the 1st copy to the System/app folder doesn't take... Could it be permissions??
I use touchdown and k9. Both work great on my S2 with Dark side v7

So i am installing custom Roms quite some time on my xperia, needed to switch from GB to ICS and installed HyperGamer 1.3, nice and smooth rom forme except one thing: i can't get the calendar app syncing with my gmail acc. seems like some sync-apk or something is missing, though the calendar app itself is working, but i can't add new entry etc.
does anybody have a solution? or should i just switch to another rom?

I removed the syncing apk for calendar and then I never made a sperate installer so people could install apps that they need... I will make it as soon as I can
That would be nice, thank you.
I'm using the calendar via Browser atm, but ... kind of uncomfortable
Syncing in Hyper-Gamer 1.4
hey, just an update
since i had still Problems with the new HyperGamer 1.4 and the CalenderSync with my google account, i dug into that..
Seems that the CalendarProvider.apk is missing or removed in the System Folder.. i installed it manually, then the Google Calendar apk. now its working for me.
If there possibly were any more glitches before that you may have fixed them as well with the new rom
thx again for the awesome rom!
