Hey guys quick question. I just came off of MIUI and came back to Calkulin and I noticed a big difference in what I believe is the density. The phone looked a lot nicer on MIUI. What is the best way to change the density for this phone and what is the best setting? What programs or apps will get messed up as a result?
Look up "LCD Density Modder Pro" to manage screen density. I had issues with Market previously and my screen density was a non-standard 209. I personally use HDPI (240) as my density now with no issues.
240 is what comes stock on our phones..I'm currently running 200 and I love the smaller, neater look..going back to 240 makes it look like a kids toy to me..some apps won't look right..the dialer and calculator being some of them..I use exdialer and I really like it over stock

I've been using a lower LCD density on my Evo 4G for a while (via changing build.prop) and I've gotten really used to it. The stock density now seems ludicrously big to me and outright annoying. But I'm trying to mess around with some different ROMs and I'm noticing it isn't playing nicely with every ROM.
It works fine on CM7, but on some other ROMs (Salvage-Mod) a lower LCD density will cause many apps to have a shrinked viewport, rather than taking up the whole screen. Is there any specific fixes in CM7 that cause them to scale to the full view-area regardless of density? Or is there any other way I could get these apps to play nicely with my LCD density on other ROMs?
Open Spare Parts, uncheck Compatibility Mode, reboot.
That should take care of it.
Worked beautifully. Thanks.
Is there a way to change the LCD density on sense roms or will that cause more problems cause o have the same problem I go back and forth between sense roms and cm7 and the sense Rom is to big for and is some reason the little thing that sometimes switches me back to cm7. Also what is the density settings for cm7?

You can change it on Sense ROMs, but the Sense widgets don't play nice with anything but the stock density...
I personally lowered it to 200 on Myn's Warm 2.2, and changed to LauncherPro with Beautiful widgets
Hi,
I like using my DHD with lowered Density, but then I experience many Apps not compatible with my Density. Is there any other Density for the DHD that makes most Apps work?
TIA
I used 192, but changed recently to 200 and never had a problem with both.
Ok thx. It's like I have 5 updates available with 240 but only one with 190 or 200.
I have all of them available with 160 but my notification bar glitches in some strange way.
I experienced that if you have low density and then try to run apps or specially games, you'll get smaller resolutions in the game. I don't know if it's worth it? you can try installing an app from market which can make font smaller and give you that feeling..
It's not just the fonts. I can change that in CM. It's just, I like having more space on the homescreens and so on
does anyone know of any projects in place for this?
These seems to be the apps that need this the most:
Samsung email client with no security
samsung launcher and dialer and contacts.
Now when running on low dpi I have found alternatives for all of these to make it work with my 180 LCD Density DPI. however just curious if anyone knows of someone who is working on themes for low lcd density dpi?
Did you get the stock dialer to work under 180? I'm running 200 and looking for a fix. THe dialer doesnt fill the screen.

That's because it's scaling the dialer because it's themed (TW based roms) if your on a CM ROM then it looks normal and not shrunken to the top left corner.
Also makes the calculator and clock look the same way.
Don't think there is a fix for that mate. Go CM9.

I've tried the LCD Resolution app on my ICS 4.0.4 Arc S and the layout of the menus etc were pretty messed up. do any of those apps work well on the Arc S? and if so which one and whats a good dpi setting to use to improve the visual experience?
Sometimes you'll have to experiment with numbers 1-9 on the dpi scale. Example I'm at 240dpi, in order for my stuff to look correct I need to set the rest of my dpi on a 3. So example, my usual dpi will be 163dpi. If I do anything other than 3 besides 240 mg screen and information will be messed up.
Edit : Certain launchers will also make a difference as they may be specified to work at the original dpi or be flexible to a new dpi.
Edit2 : Sometimes certain roms don't like dpi, a few sense and ics roms here on the Droid Incredible have issues with the dpi, if I got below 200, sense and ics roms cause certain things to stretch or stay the same dpi even though its a new dpi. Example, sense lock screen gets smaller and does not fit the screen so its off. I try to avoid using dpi on sense because of this and many other reasons, AOSP is a great place to use dpi.

Because using dpi messes the market up I use LCD Density Modded Pro. It allows you to get items from the market your android can't normally find.

So I was on Slim Bean AOSP ROM while I wated for the latest version of JB Domination theme. One thing I loved about that ROM was that the DPI was set to 256 by default and it was awesome.
I mean I got back to stock and it was at 320... like comeon its soooo huge.
So I would suggest you guys to try it out. Set the lcd density to 256 in build.prop and then used xposed framework to re-set samsung stock apps to 320 DPI. (Cam, Contacts and Calculator). You might need to freeze the Samsung Keyboard in Titanium Backup before you change DPI as it'll keep crashing.
Don't ask me how to do this, just a tip for those who know how to get around it.
I think this thread isn't so useful. Why? Cause every person has different methods of making their phone comfortable. Whether they like default view or the smaller fonts for those who have sharp eyes.
