What's the difference (storage) - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Okay I have owned a few android phones and I've never noticed more then two different storage internal and external.
On the e4gt I have system,USB and SD card.
What exactly is saved on USB, system and SD card what's the defferences?
Is there a way to access and manage them?
I have noticed that switching SD cards does not make transfer everything from on SD to the next as it has in the past with the epic 4g and htc hero.
Please someone could I'm not having low memory problems just a little confused thank you.

you have USB (16 gb minus the system partition) which is essentially a SD card in the phone. Much like a ipod touch has internal storage.
You have SD card which is what ever SD card you have put in the phone
Internal as far as I have seen is a partition of the SD memory. It is used for your ROM and the 1.5 GB of app storage. this is not accessable without root.
I have never owned your previous phone but I doubt it even transferred data from one SD card to another with out you manually copying to phone and back to SD card? Or you just saved to the phones memory.
The top two memories are almost identical in purpose other than one is removable and one is not.

Okay thank you. And how can I access them? Well I know how to acces the SD card and internal for applications. But the USB...is it only accessible after rooting? Haven't rooted his phone yet.

In a file manger like astro. The internal one will be mnt/sdcard...the one you add would be mnt/sdcard/external_sd..

[Q] new 16gb memory card

ok so ive bought myself a bigger memory card for my DHD, whats the best way of keepingh everything i have an just putting it on the bigger card and what way shall i format the new card? format from the phone or in pc?
your help is greatly appreciated
When I did mine I put 16gb card in DHD and let phone mount card then unmount and remove card , placed old and new cards each in a micro reader and both into usb ports of laptop and copied all files from old to new .
How you partition it depends on ROM. Some ROM's require a separate ext partition for a2sd, some don't.
Either way, use your pc to format the new card to FAT32 (and the separate partition to ext3 if required, 512MB is more than enough).
Then connect the DHD and mount the current card (no need to take them in an d out and d**k about with card readers for the existing card).
Then you can as suggested, simply drag and drop but don't forget to show hidden files first.
would like to know something about this aswell
I formatted mine in the phone.
Telepathy, could always try using search on the forum as well

Do you have anyway to connect it to a pc or another device to see if it isnt just your particular device.
Yes I do.

How is this even possible? I would think this is a very serious problem if it can happen naturally. Could you please advise how to prevent this from happening?

too little info. tell what u run. Reflash to stock if cannot solve.
Running V.03 btw. Max Lee set it up for it to switch for some reason. I just downloaded root explorer and that let me delete that file so I rebooted and it switched back! For anyone who had the same problem here is your solution.

SD card

I am not able to move any of my apps over to my sd card? Is there something I should do so I can do this? Thanks
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
We don't have an apps2sd. I can't remember if that's just the way ics is set up or if its cause the phone is set up that way. But there is a mod in the dev section that lets you swap internal for external

Thanks I will search for it.

why do you need to? you have 16gb on internal storage... then an extra sd card for media etc...
Not sure why he needs it, but I would like it as I have two Gameloft apps installed. They're huge and take up gigs of space. Would be nice to move them easily to my 64 gig SD.

Thanks for your help! But it really sucks that I only have 10 GB of storage left and most of that is being used on apps

You can always buy an sd card, you can add 64gb. At least we have an option to add an sd card. If you need more space there's options.

And if you get a usb OTG cable, you can add a flash drive to add even more storage! I got a 64gb card in the phone and another 64gb flash drive which I've loaded with music and videos.

I was looking for an easy way to do this because I am lazy. Saw scripts and stuff but that seemed like work.I tried this, but I am not certain it works, at least not well. I ran it, and it says it ran successfully, but the device memory didn't change at all. Same amount taken up by applications, same available space over all.
However, I did try to move the apps back and forth again to test this, so maybe it moved once, but then refused to move any more. Not sure...
Do I have to have a rooted phone in order to move stuff to my sd card? This is insane that u can't move apps or music to an sd card. WHY would Samsung do that?

They are probably not transferring because they don't run properly from the external sd. There's plenty of room for apps in the internal.

How do I use Sd card

I cant seem to figure out how to get apps that ive downloaded on my external sd card I only have a class 4 16gb sd but everything goes to device instead of card
Sent from my SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
This is a major flaw with the note. You can put data on the card, but you cant put apps or cache movies from google play, etc...
It is a limitation with jelly bean, but samsung has not provided a work around. I will research this more before buying my next phone.

One potential solution is to get a bigger sd card and swap the internal and external storage. For example I have a 64 gig sd card that my note 2 now sees as internal storage. With your current 16 gig card it makes no sense to do this, but if you NEED more storage for apps this may be the only way. As far as I know there is no way to transfer app data to the external sd, but if this is incorrect someone feel free to correct me. If you are interested in swapping the sd card to internal storage this was the thread I followed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036796
EDIT: I've heard that some people are having success with an app called "link2sd" from the play store, but it wouldn't work consistently for me. Maybe worth a try though...
Thank you very much for the great info ..I will give that a shot ....xda community Rocks !!!!
